I just thought I would add that when I closed ALL the toolbars the

It works fine here. Check to see if you have Edit - Preferences -
Appearance - Content - Zoom only text .. checked. If so, try it
unchecked.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that did not work. I did go to setting
the fonts to a smaller size, and that did present more of what was not
visible. Even with a size 10 font, not all is visible however. There
must be something else different between your settings and mine.

Don't know if it will help but ...

I appreciate seeing your settings. I was able to set everything the
same way except the fantasy setting, as that font choice was not
available to me. I guess I can live with the situation the way it is, I
just thought there might be some simple setting I had that was

One last thing you could try is to set the minimum font size to None and

It showed more of the pop up, but not completely when choosing more

I am not sure what you are suggesting. The page DOES have a scrollbar,
but it only controls the background page, not the pop up which is not
totally visible. Are you suggesting something else?

Nope. When I scale the browser down where the popup is clipped, the
window gets scrollbars and I can scroll to see all parts of the popup.
Not ideal, but feasible. You must have a very small viewport.

By "scale down" do you mean change the monitor resolution, or change the
view to something less than 100%? I am not sure what you mean by that.

You can use DOM settings in about:config to force popup windows to have
whatever normal window components you want.

dom.disable_window_open_feature.directories - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.location - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.personalbar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.status - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.titlebar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar - true

Thanks for the suggestion EE.
I'm possibly not expert enough to tinker at this level.

AFAIK. This new window has all the tool bars suppressed so I can't
access ad-blocker to set a rule to stop it.

Is there a keyboard short cut to show the toolbars or another way to get
to adblock whilst in the pop up window.

Bob

You can use DOM settings in about:config to force popup windows to have
whatever normal window components you want.

dom.disable_window_open_feature.directories - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.location - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.personalbar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.status - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.titlebar - true
dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar - true

Using SM 2.1b1 on Win 7 and Web Mail in the browser.

When I right-click on a folder in my Web Mail I get a SM pop-up menu.

If I press ESC the SM window goes away and reveals the Web Mail popup:

http://edmullen.net/temp/webmail2.jpg

This didn't used to happen in previous versions of SM. The Web Mail
menu came up with no SM popup happening.

It's not fatal but it is annoying. Any thoughts?

does SM or FF have this ability:

setting Graphic and text zoom independently of each other In SM you can
do one or the other but not both at the same time.

What NoSquint setting did you use to view the pop-up window the OP was
complaining about? Is it a graphic or text? If text how do I separate
the pop-up from the page behind it?

WLS

No Squint doesn't have anything to do with pop ups, only the content of
web pages (other than it might make the content of the pop ups as a
result.) It just has the ability to adjust the zoom level of Text and
Graphics at differing levels. and It can be set Globally or can be
customized for each site you go to.

Agreed it doesn't have anything to do with pop-ups.

The OP's original question was why doesn't it scroll. I think it's
because that is where it was placed on the Opinion page, and it was a
fixed setting. Everything except the bottom border was visible, he could
have entered his email address, and clicked submit. If he would have
tried it from the Home page the whole pop-up would have been in view (at
least it was on my Seamonkey).

To view the whole pop-up on the Opinion page I had to set Seamonkey's
zoom level to 90%.

To view it using NoSquint I had to set the Full zoom level to
(surprise!) 90%, or with the Full zoom at 100%, I had to set the Text
zoom level to 70%.

I'm glad you and others enjoy using that extension for whatever purposes
you need it.

So many ways to do basically the same thing is what keeps it interesting. :)

First of all I wasn't speaking to you but rather having a lighthearted

Go about two Control-Pluses and see what happens to the text under
the Baby (well, it's a different article now, but same thing
happens). Assuming you have zoom set to _text_only_. The text
increases in size but not the containing box. This is another
webmaster/author fault for eschewing fluidity. Not a browser
problem.

Even tho it's a new article using ctrl+mouse wheel or crtl+ many
times causes the page to increase in size quite fluidly, no
problems. Perhaps it was just that particular article?

Menu: View> Zoom> Zoom Text Only
which I mentioned several times. Does "Zoom Text Only" have a
checkmark next to it? If not, click on it to check it, and go look
for another article with a long (three lines?) description.

Yah, missed that for whatever reason. Setting to text-only exhibits
the problem IF it's really a problem since there are many
graphics/images on the page. In a text-only environment you really
don't need that function anyways so why use it to begin with? If text
is too small on a web page I just use ctrl+mouse wheel anyway. Why
would you need text-only .. examples?

Coupla reasons I see for using text-only zoom:

1) you're using, say, a 1000px browser window. Zooming _all_ increases
the actual width of the page, so you have to utilize the horizontal
scrollbar.

I can go along with that but geeze, if you have to size the text and
scrollbars appear then you must need coke-bottle-glasses.

2) some images (low-res) do not zoom well and become pixelated or
distorted.

But not interested in zooming images, that can be done with other
features/functions, etc.

3) what's the main reason for wanting to zoom in the first place? Web
author's tiny text that your eyes can't read.

Not saying that it is a useless feature globally but I have no use for
it ... so far. :-)

Insofar as pages like the CNN page(s) where text-only sizing is needed
then you have to go with the default re-size. I don't think anybody is
going to convince CNN programmers otherwise.

Anyone think about the possibility of using NOSquint Extension? It has
the options to zoom Text, Images, or both and you can set the images to
zoom at one level and the Text at another level.

Were it not for NoSquint I wouldn't be able to read post on the Mactopia
Forums for Mac Office Products.

Case: a friend's mother, about 90 years old, uses a 24" CRT set at
800x600 because she loves to surf and to chat with great-grandchildren,

It is caused by the way the web page has been written.

What you can do, when you are ready to fill out your e-mail address
on this site, is to first enter the following line in the location

javascript:{document.getElementById("login-provider").style["position"]="relative";void(0);}

After you do this, you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the
main window to find the pop-up again -- AND -- you will be able to
use the main window's scrollbar to scroll up and down over the

I am using 2.0.8 in Limux.

It is the same on other browsers and operating systems.

It matters a lot when you do the disabling.

For example, if I load the page, click "Login," and THEN disable
JavaScript, the script is already running and the "change" has no effect
(disabling js doesn't terminate running scripts, it just prevents new
launches). If I disable JavaScript before clicking "Login," nothing

No, I meant Pluses. You see, my default size showed all the text under
the Baby photo, whereas your default size is likely quite a bit larger
than mine, so Minuses are necessary to bring it *down* to size to see it
all. And further note my comment (that you snipped) about zooming text

From my experience, life isn't like that... on high volume sites such

that they will care enough to forward it much less take action to

Sometimes it is possible to use but, even that does not

Other options are to use "view in ie" or then paste into a text

Even so, it would be worth contacting Fox on this, explaining you
problem in detail.

It's an accessibility issue, and folks like that tend to be very
sensitive to that. While you don't visit there, it might well help
others with similar issues.

Hmmm? I get no login window at all, with JavaScript disabled - in three
different browsers. Are you sure you had it disabled? (Easy to do if you
use the PrefBar extension.) Are you clicking the "Login" link up in the
upper-right corner of the page?

That's what you say, but when I disable JavaScript in the browser, the
page behaves the same way. I thought it was pretty cute that after a
couple of CTRL-plusses to increase the font size, I could still use the
scroll bars to view various parts of the main page, but the "popup" as
you call it stayed put off the edge of the screen. Nifty trick.

It's the JavaScript that brings up the window. It is hardcoded to a
certain height (and width - centered), and if it doesn't fit in your
viewport, you must have a rather (vertically) short browser window. Lots
of toolbars?

There isn't anything you can do about it except make your browser canvas
taller.

Java usually comes in the form of applets - not scripts. (It's also a
proper case word, not uppercase.) It is rather rare to actually find a
Java applet these days, during casual surfing. Here's one:
http://nist.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java

While there is a mess of JavaScript in that page, if you look at the
source you can see the Java applet is:

Note: JAVA scripts is not the same as JavaScript. JavaScript is a proper
name. If you want people to understand what you're talking about, you're
going to want to use the correct name.

FYI.

Anyway, you can disable JavaScript in the preferences. I'm still on
1.1.X, so the exact location may be different for you. For me, it
is in Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts and Plug-ins, then
clear the 'Enable JavaScript for..." check boxes (or make other
settings there).

Note that many sites depend on JavaScript (unfortunate, but true)
so this may limit your browsing experience.

We'd need a sample URL where this occurs to say what was going on.

Most popups are done in JavaScript, and Mozilla popup blocking works by
disabling the JavaScript "open unrequested window" function that is used
to make that happen.

You may wish to allow popups for some sites. For example, there are
sites that open a popup to queue a download.

Meanwhile, you might want to take a look at the NoScript extension.
NoScript blocks *all* scripting activity unless the site in in a
whitelist. It defaults to blocking JavaScript, but can also block Java,
Flash, and Microsoft Silverlight.

Yes I looked at it and it was Java but I so it coming from some

Anyway the moderator on the forum removed the popup so it is OK now.
