2015-08-23 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
I have a copy of an old version that a kind lister sent me a while back,
but I became discouraged as to just how it would be useful in the long
run, because people who had tried moving back had problems with Mozilla
updating the version to a current one despite setting the program not to
update at all. Just didn't want to have to hassle with all of that
noise, so never did it.

nowhere to be found. So I asked the great Google God and got a link to
the File Hippo site with it. Just watch out for junkware in the

Hi if someone has it.
Can they please send-me the last version of Thunderbird that you were
able to read with the mouse keys in window-eyes 9.0.
If someone can do that it would be A big help.
Also if I was to install it over my current one would it work to do
that?

Kitty,

In order to interact with a tool tip all you have to do is hit the Mouse
to focus hot key twice. The default is Insert-Numpad-Plus. If it can't
be done it will say, "Unable to route mouse to tool tip." If it does
work it will say, "Mouse routed to tool tip," or something similar. Then
you can left click on it with the Single click left button hot key,
Numpad-Slash.

I give the names of these keys so if you're using the laptop layout you
can simply look them up in the Window-Eyes control panel under Hot keys,
Mouse.

TB and FF info for Jaws users:
On Windows Vista and Windows 7, Firefox and Thunderbird both use
Direct2D rendering by default. This prevents the JAWS cursor from
detecting information. Fortunately it is easy to disable this rendering.
You need to do it once for each version of Firefox and Thunderbird you
use on your system. To do this you need to set two configuration
variables to true: gfx.direct2d.disabled, and layers.acceleration.disabled.
Open the Configuration Editor. In Firefox, enter
about:config
in the address bar. In Thunderbird, go to the Tools menu and navigate
to Options, Advanced, General, then Config Editor.

Once in the Configuration editor, press TAB until you are in the list of
options.

Pressing UP or DOWN ARROW will move you between options or typing the
first few letters of an option's name will move you to a specific option
in the list. In this case, type gfx and press DOWN ARROW to
gfx.direct2d.disabled.

Assuming the option is set to false, press the APPLICATIONS KEY to open
the context menu and choose Toggle. This will change the option to true.

Go through the same process for layers.acceleration.disabled.

Close the Configuration Editor and restart Firefox or Thunderbird. The
JAWS cursor should now show content.

Re: Reading a tool tip

2015-08-23 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Just search the Window-Eyes manual for "Routing to Tooltips". It's under
Window-Eyes features, Using the mouse. Below is the text.

Routing to Tooltips
Window-Eyes also allows you to route the mouse pointer to a tooltip.
This feature is extremely useful when a balloon tool tip pops up in the
system tray saying something like, "Click here to perform a task." For
example, if you have automatic updates turned on and updates are
available, a balloon tool tip may pop up in the system tray saying,
"Updates for your computer have been downloaded from Windows Update.
Click here to review these updates and install them." When you hear this
message, press the Mouse to Focus hot key twice. Window-Eyes will say,
"Pointer routed to tool tip," and the pointer will be placed in the
center of the tool tip. At that point, you can press the Single Click
Left Button, which is Numpad-Slash by default, to perform the click that
the balloon refers to.

Regards,
Tom

you can left click on it with the Single click left button hot key,
Numpad-Slash.

I give the names of these keys so if you're using the laptop layout you
can simply look them up in the Window-Eyes control panel under Hot keys,
Mouse.

If someone can do that it would be A big help.

Hi to all and Curtis in particular,
Thanks for posting, and I urge everyone with WE9.2 crashing or silence
problem to post; so that this problem can be debugged.

Firstly all of the triggers mentioned by Curtis for causing WE9.2
to crash or go silent are also happening to me. They are more frequent
with windows 10 than with windows 7.

Also, it usually it takes pressing a key twice to get things done.
to press a key twice to get it to respond.
For example, in Thunderbird for me to select an email from the inbox or
to delete it, I need to press the key twice.
If I am reading an email and want to delete it, I need to press delete
twice.

Yesterday I installed chrome onto both windows 7 and windows 10
and
pressing alt d causes WE9.2 to crash

RE: Talk list and comcast

2015-08-23 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
Well, comcast does store the spam in a special folder, even though I am
using POP to access it; you can see this folder by logging on to their web
mail interface.

If you ever have a problem with an ISP spam filter, you can do what I've
done and create a second email account just for mailing lists, and disable
the spam filter for it. Then I setup Outlook to check this second email
account.

As Mike says, in this case, something else seems to be the problem, not
comcast.

all unless you are useing i map and they have a spam folder to store the

Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11

2015-08-23 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk
I just don't do "me too" messages," and have been really TRYING not too, with
this version of we, 9.2 and windows 10 pro 64 bit, to agree with all the
silence of we-messages in this thread,but . . .
Tabbing within applications, alt-tabbing between applications,
bringing up IE, and within IE; tabbing to links, bringing up the link
listing facility with insert-tab, not staying focussed on an edit box to
type in a search string like on the bookshare page, and then, SILENCE.
Not golden silence, but silence where usually, control-alt-w brings it
back but, I can count on fingers of two hands how many times it happens
in an hour, and yes, I did say two hands.
Within windows 10; file explorer, tabbing in and around the start
menu, boom, crash or silence. All I have for Internet or virus
protection / mal-ware is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, c-cleaner, and what
comes with Windows 10, defender.
It does not matter which synthesizer, or group of speech synthesizers,
WE consistently crashes.

RE: browse mode on and off

2015-08-23 Thread Michael Massey via Talk
Sure. Open the Window-eyes control panel with ctrl-backslash. Find the
verbosity node and expand it with the right arrow key. Next, find the
browse mode item in the list of items and expand it. Next, find the item
that says auto load. Tab to the set of four radio buttons. If you want
browse mode to speak browse mode on or off, select the radio button to
indicate with speech and press ctrl-s to save the setting.

Something else is wrong. I'm running 9.2 on W7/64 and use IE 11
exclusively. I can't remember the last time I lost speech.

Try clearing all of your cache data: history, cookies, temporary files,
etc. This can be done within IE via Alt-T Tools, Options, Alt-D Delete.
It can also be done within the Windows Control panel with Internet
settings. If you do it within IE close and reopen it.

Resetting IE has solved this problem for some. I also disable or
uninstall any add-ons I don't use: Alt-T Tools, A Manage add-ons.

Open the View menu in IE and uncheck any of the tool bars you don't use.
The only two I have checked are Show status bar and Lock the tool bars.
The menu bar works normally even when it's not shown.

I personally also remove any of the default Window-Eyes apps I don't use.

If someone can do that it would be A big help.

Re: app updates

2015-08-23 Thread via Talk
I think the new default is to play a sound and not switch the focus to
an update dialog. This was in a gwtoolkit update. You can change the
default in the menu for that package, if memory serves.

Running WE 9.2 on a Win 7 64 bit machine.
While reviewing a web page using the arrow keys in IE 11 speech will
just stop. If you keep pressing the down arrow key WE sometimes starts
talking again and sometimes not. If you exit IE after speech is lost
speech is still gone but may come back after a wait of 30 seconds or it
may not come back at all. This issue has gotten much worse with WE 9.2.

RE: WE 9.0 install from cd show as demo

2015-08-23 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Bill,

Yes, this happened to me when I was installing Window-Eyes by incrementally
updating using upgrade installer packages.
I guess what happened is that I had jumped from 8.0 to 9.0 and I had figured
I could bypass 8.4.
The only way to fix it was to completely uninstall Window-Eyes and use all
the packages I had, one at a time, in the proper order.

Does anyone have any idea why a fresh install of Window-Eyes 9.0 from the CD
on a Windows 7 machine would say it is a demo version? It has the correct
serial number in the about, but still says it is a 30 minute demo.

Hi Vinny,

I believe the set files supplied with Window-Eyes are out of date, at least
the ones I see were installed with WE 9.2.
Unless I am wrong about that, I don't think they will help much with
GoldWave 5.7, since the set files have names like GW5.xx.
However, I wrote an app called GoldWave Enhance which uses three hotkeys to
speak the start, end and total time of the selected sound clip, and so at
least this may help.
Are you familiar with the AppGet utility which is installed with
Window-Eyes?
This allows you to display the list of available apps in the App repository
on the AI Squared web site.
If you are, then you can install GoldWave Enhance that way, and you will
find it in the Multimedia category.
Alternatively, here is the GoldWave Enhance info page where you can download
and install the app:

I hope this info helps,

Hi,
In Goldwave when I go to edit a file, as I am playing we seems to turn
itself off, in other words, none of the key functions will speak as they
used to do in previous versions with xp. I am now using Windows 7 and
goldwave 5.7, along with We 9.10.
Now I have reinstalled all pertenant set files and aps. But when I go
to the we control panel and read the title, it still says Window-eyes
something, associated none. I have forgotten how to associate the goldwave
set files into we. So far, reading through the latest tutorial, I cannot
find out that information.
I am working on a important time sensitive project, so I would greatly
appreciate any expert advice.
Thank you very much.

RE: How do you stop the too many bounces warning?

2015-08-23 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: I talked to a fellow who knows a little about all this and he believes
it is how AI2 has their server and Mailman setup.
Evidently the big guys ping a server like the AI2 e-list sending messages to
them to ensure the e-mail address is valid, think that is what he said.
If it gets a response fine, else it bounces a message back to AI2. Then in
Mailman there are settings where they can automatically bounce you after a
number of bounces and settings to handle it in diferent ways.
Anyway it sure sounded like what is going on to me.
Other people use Mailman without these problems like FreeLists, the one he
pointed out, who handle this plumbing so folks creating e-lists don't need
to muck with it.
Perhaps AI2 has their e-mail server software setup incorrectly, not a slam
but perhaps something they can look into.

Hi Danny: This is interesting since Chip said you would not have this
problem if you use Gmail.
To be fair I believe that is what he was led to believe by the tech folks at
AI2.
But it would seem from your post that Gmail is no answer either.
If one fellow is correct most the major players do a security ping back that
may be causing this problem on the AI2 server side and the Mailman settings
then count them and disable your account depending on the AI2 Mailman
settings - not sure but it sounded correct when he was telling me all the
technicals over the phone.

RE: WE 9.2 and IE 11

2015-08-23 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi: Happens here on my Windows 8.1 machine with WE 9.2 and IE 11.
The symptoms are losing speech, losing the up and down arrow keys and
usually the tabbing keys and sometimes the alt-tab function.
Sometimes the ctl-alt-w keys will bring it back but often only partially.
Sometimes firing up narrator and moving around the web page by tabbing will
then have WE start speaking again but often without the use of the up and
down arrow keys and it is likely to fail again unless I exit and ReStart IE
and sometimes the machine itself.
Sometimes firing up jaws will work to help WindowEyes come back, note that
jaws still reads things correctly so the pages are there, and sometimes just
refreshing the page might help but not usually.
I have noticed that often when I do manage to get speech back the cursor or
whatever is around an input or active control on the page like a search box
or one of those menu bars with various control options and sometimes if I
get away from them quickly I can avoid the problem, sometimes not so this is
not a solid idea but has been the case often enough to indicate a possible
point of the problem source.
Another problem I have, had allot with another browser, firefox, was that WE
was having all kinds of problems with flash objects crashing firefox. It got
so bad I dumped firefox and just live with all the IE speech problems in
WindowEyes.
The thing here is that while I am not getting major page messages from
firefox that it has crashed due to the flash problems these pages likely
still use flash in Internet Explorer so may be another source of WE Problems
- don't know.
Good luck:

RE: Why can't WE9.program be set with exclusive use of one core?

2015-08-23 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Manny:
That is interesting.
When a program runs in parallel mode it is suppose to have resources shared
among all the cpu processes via something like time slicing depending on the
priority of the program when it was started I think.
My initial thought might be that if the chess game sets the priority really
high it may be grabbing so much cpu time that it is impacting other computer
operations including WindowEyes but that is the most wild of guessess.
A dedicated processor might get rid of that problem as you mentioned.
Were you able to have WindowEyes run on a single dedicated processor and
were you able to verify which one or, at least, which thread or something?
