Hi Rob,

Here's the Microsoft site where you can get the tool, and I recommend you
read the page carefully to evaluate your options carefully:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

Good luck,

Need an answering machine software solution

2016-04-16 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi,

I have a good quality USB modem which has worked well up to now for a
software-based talking call display solution on a land line with the help of
the Ascendis Caller ID software (http://ascendis.com).
What I would like to do now is to use either a Windows 7 or Windows 10 machine
to set up a software-based ansering machine.
Ideally, I would like the software to answer the land line, play a greeting,
store the caller's message, and notify me via SMS text message and/or email and
even attach the voice file to these messages.
I have tried an application called Phoner (http://www.phoner.de), and I can't
quite get the answering machine to work.
I would love to hear anyone's experiences and suggestions on this topic,
knowing full well that this is not an easy problem to solve, especially given
that such a solution would need to be accessible via Window-Eyes for me to be
able to use it effectively.

Thanks so much,

Rod Hutton

    Listers,

Maybe this has been thoroughly covered in previous
discussions, but if
so, it has been missed by me.

I have been in the process of upgrading to Windows 10 since
around
7:30pm yesterday evening, and it is now a little after 4am,
and I am
still getting the words when tabbing through the page "Starting
Download" and "loading," but no apparent movement in the process.

I elected to download rather than install, because I thought that
downloading would give me a better chance of scheduling when the
installation and upgrade would take place, hopefully at a time
more
    convenient for me.

Nope, never even thought of it. I'm afraid that will have to wait until
I finished recording my oldies program, which should be over around
11:00pm, otherwise I will have to reboot, and that might be a bit
inconvenient at the moment. But what a drag <.

Thanks much for the suggestion.

It's a lemon-lime soft drink made by Coca Cola. 7/Up is better, IMHO.

The sprite on the web page is a graphic you can press Enter on and make
something happen. On some of the Townhall.com pages that play video, I have
to press Enter on a thing called utility graphics_sprite to play the video.

Good afternoon
Home alone and doing some web searching and have time to ask this question.
I keep hearing the word "Sprite" when I navigate web pages.
What is it?
I just was on

This site is very clunky to work with but... It reacts slow or WE is being
slow, not exactly sure. It may take a bit to find the directions but at the
end you will or at least I did hear, "Sprite".
Which reminded me to ask the question?
I hear it all the time when I check the charges on my citi credit card
statement.
Is it a thing or some dum graphic that WE can see and reads?
What is it besides annoying to me?

Claims not to be able to find a valid version of Office. Now What do I

OK, I give up.

Can someone please send me the link to download the media tool to
upgrade to Windows 10 on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC running Home Premium? I
would even be pleased to burn it to disk or a flash drive.. Thank you.

What am I hearing on the web?

2016-04-16 Thread shannon via Talk
Good afternoon
Home alone and doing some web searching and have time to ask this question.
I keep hearing the word "Sprite" when I navigate web pages.
What is it?
I just was on
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/228056/parmesan-crusted-tilapia-fillets/
This site is very clunky to work with but... It reacts slow or WE is being
slow, not exactly sure. It may take a bit to find the directions but at the
end you will or at least I did hear, "Sprite".
Which reminded me to ask the question?
I hear it all the time when I check the charges on my citi credit card
statement.
Is it a thing or some dum graphic that WE can see and reads?
What is it besides annoying to me?
Thanks
Shannon

As I understand it, Window-eyes 9.0 is the final version that works with

Re: An observation in the form of a question (Windows 10 download)

Larry, Windows Ten downloads to a hidden folder on your computer called
Windows BT. If you turn on hidden files and folders, it'll be the first
folder you'll see at the top of the list if Windows Ten is, in fact,
downloading or has downloaded.

An observation in the form of a question (Windows 10 download)

2016-04-16 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
I'm getting the distinct impression that the download and installation
for Windows 10 is based on a cue system, and that it is quite possible
that no downloading is actually taking place at all? That is the way it
looks to me.

Now, I'm just wondering, to what folder is the file downloading too. In
other words, would it be possible to see the file in the process of
being downloaded before it is finally copied to the download folder? It
sure would be nice to be able to see some progress while time drags by.

And don't worry, I intend to cancel out of this within the next couple
of hours or so if movement isn't in evidence, and go after the media
tool, but I am just curious.

Re: 2nd try - What version of WE will work with XP? Will WE 9 work?

2016-04-16 Thread Dave via Talk
Hello,

I have a new system, running Win 10. I find it better to use than Win 7,
which as all of you know, was a ugly Pig for me.

For the Record, I have had this new Win 10 system for about three weeks
now and WE 9.4 has not failed once! Not even when I ride the Internet.
Amazing for sure.

With all that being said, I still have and use an old old old XP system.
It just keeps chugging away, and I can do some work better and easier on
the old XP system than I can even with the new Win 10 machine.

I do not go on the internet with it any more, but I still like the way
WE 8.4 read web pages, than I do WE 9.4.

So, it is true that Win XP is officially Dead, at least at my house,
XP is still aline and running quite well.

Larry,

That's how I upgraded the computers around here. I used the media
creation tool which is available from Microsoft. I deleted the file
after upgrading all of the computers, but just search for it on the
Microsoft.com site. I didn't download the Windows 10 installation file
on a flash drive, just put the creation tool file on a flash drive and
let each computer download its own copy of the installation file, it
didn't take that long, only about an hour or so to download the file.

RE: 2nd try - What version of WE will work with XP? Will WE 9 work?

2016-04-16 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk
Hello Mr. Skarstad:

For reasons stated elsewhere, I am still a die hard XP user and will
continue to be that for as long as I choose! Yes, Duchess Microsoft does
claim it no longer supports XP; however, it still get Windows Malicious
Software Removal update download info again and again. I've never cared
about the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool and its cousin, Windows
Defender. Each month, I am forced to HIDE THEM both in my XP box. Perhaps
I am extraspecial to Duchess Microsoft! Or, perhaps I am just too much of a
computer nerd who seems to know what he/she is doing and keeps on succeeding
nibbling around the edges.

Sighted folks don't make a farce about Windows OS's; they simply use what
works for them! Like Lady United States of America, I have a lot of legacy
software that still runs pretty well in Windows XP. It's not broken, and I
don't need to scare myself. I get much better mileage with my XP box; so
far, I can still order stuff from the likes of Amazon, NewEgg, ETC. using
IE8 with no qualms. With IE11, I'm waiting impatiently for Duchess
Microsoft to recrown me an Earl or Lord, but that won't happen because she's
soon abandoning IE altogether for the Edge; may be at that point she'll push
me to the Edge of one of the 54 mountains in my coveted Colorado land mass
and watch me fall off the incline to the valley below. That way, she won't
have to weep and gnash her teeth over me anymore for being a nonconformist!

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

Carol, that's a mistake! I have a number of XP boxes still and WE9.1 runs
like a charm! It's even much faster and better than WE9.4 that runs on my
Windows7 64Bit Professional box!

For me, I MUST STILL HOLD ON TO XP because a state-owned Web Portal that I
use for work-related purposes DOES NOT have support for IE11, FireFox, or
Google Chrome. Only IE8 guarantees me better accessibility to this Web
Portal and it is a state government-owned, operated and maintained web
portal.

Each time I try accessing this Web Portal from my Windows7 64Bit
Professional box, all I get are lock ups and IE11 crashes. It doesn't
matter whether it is Jaws or Window-Eyes; I can't get work done using IE11
on the Web Portal discussed in the previous paragraph.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

As I understand it, Window-eyes 9.0 is the final version that works with
xp. I'd also like to very gently point out that if you're still running
xp, it really is time to seriously think about saving for an upgrade of
your operating system. It's become really unsafe if you're constantly
online, and I'd really hate to see anyone get infected. Microsoft no
longer supports it so you're not getting any of the latest security
updates, and these days, security is more important than ever before.

Windows 7 has gone down in price as it's 2 versions behind the current
one. I'm still running 7 and it works very well, but my next pc will
quite definitely be running Windows 10. All the screenreader
developers are working closely with Microsoft, and these days Windows 10
is a breeze to use. So, upgrade with confidence.

RE: 2nd try - What version of WE will work with XP? Will WE 9 work?

2016-04-16 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk

Sincerely,
Olusegun

Try WE9.1; anything greater might not.

Please note that GW Micro, AI Squared and their related cousins DO NOT
guarantee that WE9.1 will work with XP and NO TECH SUPPORT is provided.

I still have a number of XP boxes and it sure works like a charm for me.
The mileage may vary for others!

Re: In the process of upgrading to Windows 10, but a question or two

2016-04-16 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Michael,

Do you remember where you found the media tool, and if so, where.

I really don't mind waiting a bit for my download, but I really don't
appreciate having no indication as to if the download is even taking
place. I see no indication that any vestige of the file has been
downloaded anywhere, not even in the temp folder. I've checked the temp
folder by using the run command, and typing temp. I guess that is the
right way to go about it, as well as the proper folder to be looking for
files in the process of being created or in this case, downloaded. Of
course, I keep my eye on the download folder as well.

Who knows, my frustrations may be over nothing. I mean, this may be
normal behavior for the upgrade process, but I just don't understand why
a download process should go so slow, that is if it is going at all.

Anyway, I guess that is enough ranting for one message.

But again Michael, if you could tell me just where to go to find that
tool, or how to look for it, that might be the answer.

Just hope I have a flash drive big enough for the download. I think it
is supposed to be something like 3gb?

Thanks,

Larry

Listers,

Maybe this has been thoroughly covered in previous discussions, but if
so, it has been missed by me.

I have been in the process of upgrading to Windows 10 since around
7:30pm yesterday evening, and it is now a little after 4am, and I am
still getting the words when tabbing through the page "Starting
Download" and "loading," but no apparent movement in the process.

I elected to download rather than install, because I thought that
downloading would give me a better chance of scheduling when the
installation and upgrade would take place, hopefully at a time more
convenient for me. Was this indeed the right choice?

I realize that this process can take a day or two to complete
altogether, but not getting any feedback or indication of action is a
bit disconcerting to say the least.

Thanks for any help with all of this in advance. I am just a bit
apprehensive about this upgrade to begin with, but this waiting with no
apparent time table is making me a bit crazy .

Thanks again, and am looking forward to working with W10 when it indeed
actually presents itself for installation.
