My name is Michael, and I am brand new to Window Eyes. I hope to learn a lot from this list, andto be able to use Window Eyes as well as I can Jaws. I really know nothing of the program yet, but I will be reading some instruction on it and learning as I go along. Hopefully, it will not be long before I am helping others on this list with their issues with the program. I have over 35 years experience using a computer, and have become pretty well versed in the inner workings of them over the past decade. Virtual View and PDFs
Hi all I just received a scanned PDF document which I tested with Virtual View. All I got in the recognized text was one line along with the "begin image" and "end image" messages. Yet the document could be read in full using the KNFB Reader iOS app on my iPhone 5s. For reasons of confidentiality I will be unable to sendthe document for analysis. But my feeling is Virtual View cannot yet handle complex PDF documents, such as those containing tables or other text formatting or styles. Re: A Lack In Virtual View
And has anyone thought that this could be very useful in programs like Vmware where the virtual machine's monitor so to speak is printed as an image? So you could do an alt-print screen to capture the image, as always, then Virtual View with its cool new OCR functionality will kick in and recognize the captured image. This way one could bypass Windows and Linux Easy Installs and install the guest operating systems manually! Just a very good example of the convenience of alt-print screen and Virtual View's cool new OCR functionality! On 05/11/2015 17:28, Aaron Smith via Talk wrote: I should point out that Alt-Print Screen is nothing more than a convenience. And optional feature, if you will. It has no bearing on the core functionality of Virtual View. We just thought it'd be a nice addition. The core functionality of Virtual View involves launching Virtual View, and either selecting a window or file to virtualize. That hasn't changed, except for the addition of being able to select files instead of windows. The only reason we piggy-backed on Alt-Print Screen is because, as Tom mentioned, it's an operating system hotkey that generates an image. Why not, then, offer the ability to OCR that image what with the new OCR functionality. Again, Alt-Print Screen has nothing to do with whether or not Virtual View works. Alt-Print screen is just so you can OCR the active window easily. It's a convenience thing. Figuring out poorly designed order form.
I was wondering if anyone might know of a way to look at the code of a page and determine what information one is supposed to put in the edit boxes of the poorly designed site. If you go to check out, the only lines that show up for shipping are an unlabelled edit box that sometimes has a zero in it and a pair of drop down boxes, one set to United States and the other to the first state alphabetically, Alabama I think. Other boxes appear as one tabs through the page, I am sure they are for address, email and so on, but none are labelled. The billing section is similar, with a line of labelled boxes for one to enter the credit card security code and drop down boxes for entering expiration date and a couple of unlabelled edit boxes. I am hoping that there might be a way to fill out the rest of the form, but I have no idea of how to check out the pages’ code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am accessing the site on a Windows 7 64-bit desktop with Window-Eyes 9.2 and with Internet Explorer 11. I tried Firefox with no luck, but I use the last FF to be compatible with mouse key navigation because that is the only way I know of to access things like color and size selection on sites like amazon. I’ve never used Chrome, so I don’t know if it might work better. If anyone cares to check out the cart system, feel free. but one has to fill out their profile for the person the subscription is meant for. and even if one just randomly creates a profile, there are over 100 items, so I didn’t think anyone would care to go that far. How is iTunes doing with WE 9.2?
I am one of those holdouts who has been avoiding losing my sidebar by upgrading to the latest iTunes. Unfortunately, I am hoping to own one or more new gadgets soon that will require me to bite the bullet and learn the iTunes 12 for Windows interface. So, how do things stand now with the latest itunes and Window Eyes 9.2? I am trying to decide between holding out as long as possible and waiting to update until I have the new iOS device or whether I should just update and start learning how to use the new version so that I am used to it when I have to learn the ins and outs of a new device. Re: Microsoft rule
Good idea, although the bugs present are mainly to do with privacy rather than anyting else. By default all new and upgraded Windows 10 installations will have all privacy settings on unless you choose the custom settings option during set up or you go into settings later on. But the privacy settings are scattered all over the place and so it's easier to turn them off during setup. I call this a bug since these should be off, not on, by default. Re: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1
Hi I am sorry if I go on a rant here. You see this is my gripe with GW Micro. they never offer older versions. As with any other company they like you to be on the latest and greatest and stick with that unless you have an older version somewhere from a backup. Gw Micro does not offer older versions, never did and probably never will. Now with FS and NVaccess, they both provide older versions of their screen readers on their website. This is good as people like you can downgrade should they wish. But no Gw Micro won't do that; they expect you to be on the latest and greatest. Again sorry if this comes out as a rant and am sorry to be harsh. I'm trying not to bash anyone either. I'm just offering my £0.02 worth. Good luck on getting your copy of 9.1 because you will need it. Re: lag in file explorer in Windows 10
It's a rebranded version of Windows Explorer introduced in Windows 8 and 8.1. It uses the ribbon instead of menus and toolbars. It has a lot of entries. If I press enter on my documents then press the down arrow fairly quickly I get nothing. If I press the my documents button then wait several seconds before hitting the down arrow I can then read the entries. Still a little lag between down arrow and speech but much improved. Sighted help tells me just as soon as I press the my documents button the screen is populated with all its entries but it must be a case of We not having access to them as quickly. Any ideas of how to resolve this would be great. Even more evidence to this as being the issue is if lets say you open another category such as downloads where the list of entries is smaller you don't have to wait as long to begin pressing the down arrow and getting speech. Don't remember this being this way in Win 7 or Win 8.1. ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Hi after the upgrade, go into settings update and security recovery and choose to go back to your previous version, 8.1 being my previous version. Re: Must you run window-eyes 9.2 with windows ten? Meaning, my friend wants to know if window-eyes 9.1 will work with windows ten.
I don't believe it will. They will have to upgrade to 9.2 before upgrading to Windows 10. Re: upgrading to windows 10
Me personally, I am going to leave this Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop alone but will reserve my copy anyway. I hope I can download it as an image then use that in a virtual machine. It is also accessible unlike the majority of hardware solutions out there. I take it it is accessible but is it a hardware box or how do you watch say a tv show like Vikings or Gotham on it? If software can you watch on the computer itself? Finally, is it only for Apple devices? I had Netflix, watched everything I wanted, then Amazon but got pricy and have to pay for many shows on top of the base price so am thinking of Hulu since there are more new shows in a more timely fashon there from what I have seen googling and talking to my Daughter. Re: Windows Live Mail
I have also been using it since 2011 and considered it very accessible, though with a number of quirks and annoyances. The release of 9.1 fixed all of the things that bothered me, though since I haven't done a lot of changes to settings or other more involved actions beyond basic use, there might be some quirks I haven't discovered. but given the improvements made in other areas, I think it unlikely that any major issues have popped up since WE 9.1 came out.
