Re: Contacting VFO Regarding Window-Eyes

2016-10-19 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi:

OK already! Let's stop this useless chatter about something that we
can't control.
For right now, we still have our Window-eyes so let's get back to
helping each other work out our problems with Window-eyes, and then
cross whatever bridges are to be crossed when we get to them.

Re: Contacting VFO Regarding Window-Eyes

2016-10-18 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk

So the history of poor customer service is alive and well.

Encouraged by suggestions on the list, I used the contact VFO link of
its site - specifically the U.S. office. I posted my comment regarding
Window-Eyes on Sunday afternoon my time in New Zealand - haven't even
got an autoresponse.

Maybe a lone human is working steadily through a deluge of Window-Eyes
support emails!

You really are clueless. Spite doesn't have a thing to do with it, logic
does. I needed the keys from them to make it work, no where else to get

Hi:

I can say, having been through a "merger" which really was an acquisition,
there are things that take time to sort out. Many times, these things are
done just to get the customer base of the company that was a competitor.

One of my friends who was in a company that was acquired, told me how the
employees of the acquiring company were under strict orders not to talk to
employees of the company they were acquiring. This was, at least
partially,

due to the fact that the acquiring company was not unionized, whereas the
company being acquired had been unionized.

Now, we can tell some communication is going on, but, at what level, and
with whom, we do not know.

At any rate, these things are usually not pleasant to go through,
especially
when you are part of the company being acquired by a larger one. And, it
is
possible that any AI Squared employees monitoring this list may,
themselves,
not be totally aware of what is being talked about at a higher level.
Those

still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone, but, may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect. If this is the
case,

ranthing about the unfairness of it all on this list may only be seen by
folks just as worried as you are, maybe more.

Like others, I feel the best thing is to try our best to let VFO
management

know how we feel.

Also, just remember, Window-Eyes has not gone away, yet. You can still
download the WE For Office version, and, updates are still being
delivered.

I suspect there are Lease-To-Own customers to think about. Also, can they
just pull the product without giving advanced notice to MicroSoft, since,
I

am sure, some kind of contract had to be entered into with MicroSoft?

There are so many things we just do not know.

And, think about this: Any decline in the Window-Eyes user-base, because
of
negative talk will probably end up putting the final nail in the
proverbial

coffin.

So, spread the word. There's still a great alternative for JFW that won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there, the
more

users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for Office, be
sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a user-base
that is still growing.

Yep, as far as i know the free Window-eyes is still available. Also, there
may be legalities. The AI squared staff are most likely, not at liberty
to

speak about anything official since a. they may have a contract which says
they can't speak about it, or b. they don't know anything themselves,
which

makes this whole conversation null and void.
I know people want answers now, it'd be amazing news if we all got our
answer today. but, we aren't going to, so sit back, relax and enjoy
Window-eyes for as long as is humanly possible.

the only ways I have seen mentioned are the free version for office, and
other than that, how much it costs if you have to pay for it. I have not

there are things that take time to sort out. Many times, these things
are

done just to get the customer base of the company that was a competitor.

One of my friends who was in a company that was acquired, told me how the
employees of the acquiring company were under strict orders not to talk
to
employees of the company they were acquiring.

Those
still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone, but,
may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect.

There's still a great alternative for JFW that
won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there, the
more
users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for Office,
be

sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a user-base
that is still growing.

 Hello list.

I don't think any comments sent to the vfo people will do much good.

Personally,I hope Microsoft Narater becomes so perfected that it puts
the other screen reader into the useless category.

That would make Narrater the main screen reader just as Voiceover is for
 the Apple products.

Probably that's how it should be any way.

The possibility of Window Eyes being phased out just makes my heart sick.

Having to change over to something else andlearn all those commands and
other things just seems a little to much of a chalange at this age.

Something is just a little funny about this whole thing.

We can certainly hope. I do, although I'm not optimistic. We are, after all,
talking about a group of companies that includes Greedom Science Fiction.
But like others I'll just use the office version of WE until we get an
official answer and, should the worst case scenario come to pass, continue
to use it as long as humanly possible. I just know I absolutely will not go
back to JAWS, even if I have to resort to NVDA fulltime.

although I do still hope that at least the free Office version of WE
will continue to remain available.

RE: Contacting VFO Regarding Window-Eyes

2016-10-15 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk

This was, at least partially,
due to the fact that the acquiring company was not unionized, whereas the
company being acquired had been unionized.

Now, we can tell some communication is going on, but, at what level, and
with whom, we do not know.

At any rate, these things are usually not pleasant to go through, especially
when you are part of the company being acquired by a larger one. And, it is
possible that any AI Squared employees monitoring this list may, themselves,
not be totally aware of what is being talked about at a higher level. Those
still involved with Window-Eyes may be just as worried as anyone, but, may
not be able to talk about what they know, or suspect. If this is the case,
ranthing about the unfairness of it all on this list may only be seen by
folks just as worried as you are, maybe more.

Like others, I feel the best thing is to try our best to let VFO management
know how we feel.

Also, just remember, Window-Eyes has not gone away, yet. You can still
download the WE For Office version, and, updates are still being delivered.
I suspect there are Lease-To-Own customers to think about. Also, can they
just pull the product without giving advanced notice to MicroSoft, since, I
am sure, some kind of contract had to be entered into with MicroSoft?

There are so many things we just do not know.

And, think about this: Any decline in the Window-Eyes user-base, because of
negative talk will probably end up putting the final nail in the proverbial
coffin.

So, spread the word. There's still a great alternative for JFW that won't
break the bank. While the WE for Office option is still out there, the more
users, the better. And, if you have downloaded Window-Eyes for Office, be
sure to register your product. That will be more evidence of a user-base
that is still growing.

Hello John,

I have been drafting a letter to VFO because, as you know, there is
speculation that Window-Eyes is going to be phased out. If it is, I am
not switching to Jaws, because I won't be able to afford it, amongst
other reasons. However, in my letter, I have pointed out that if
Window-Eyes goes, it provides a significant problem for blind people
wanting to get into work, as not everyone has an access to work fund.
Moreover, one of the few ways we can work, especially for younger
people, is volunteering, and there, we may be in a crisis, as IT
technicians are paranoid about NVDA, since it is open source, and they
think it could contain a virus or compromise security in another way.
We would be in limbo, as they won't want NVDA, and they won't pay for
Jaws, as Access to Work won't pay for equipment for unpaid work, so you
would have to buy a license for every computer you use out of your own
pocket. What do you think? Also, I have heard that they are
developing

both Magic and ZoomText. How come they are doing that, but phasing out
Window-Eyes? To me, this is a case of double standards.

Re: Contacting VFO Regarding Window-Eyes

In stead of attacking users who are expressing a legitimate opinion,
offer an alternative argument.

The evidence of the demise of Window-Eyes as a living and developing
piece of software is very clear to me.

Hello John,

I have been drafting a letter to VFO because, as you know, there is
speculation that Window-Eyes is going to be phased out. If it is,
I am

not switching to Jaws, because I won't be able to afford it, amongst
other reasons.
We would be in limbo, as they won't want NVDA, and they won't pay for
Jaws, as Access to Work won't pay for equipment for unpaid work, so
you

would have to buy a license for every computer you use out of your own
pocket. What do you think? Also, I have heard that they are
developing
both Magic and ZoomText. How come they are doing that, but phasing
out

Window-Eyes? To me, this is a case of double standards.

not switching to Jaws, because I won't be able to afford it, amongst
other reasons.

2016-10-15 Thread Kenneth Son via Talk

Kenneth Son.

Back when Open Book was owned by Arkenstone the users list for Open Book
was monitored by the Arkenstone staff. Then when FS purchased Open Book
that monitoring stopped never to be seen again. Simply put FS doesn't
monitor their users list.

Am I correct, that this list more or less by now will have been left for

staff aware we have an issue? In such a case: Guess how many will just

Would it be a great thing, could someone from the new staff join the
list, and let us all know. Or, in case they are already listening, would
it be great if they let us be informed. Many times lately, I have a
feeling we are speaking to the wall. I do realize that the great
reorganizing that comes from the merge, may well take up much resources.
But still, good contact with your users will be the number one thing,
should your product succeed, and your customer service be outstanding.

Is there any way for WE users, to contact the VFO officers directly, or
are we just left to go through whatever hoops and loops, to be allowed
sending a message, hoping someone ever bothers to reply? This might be
important to know, specially if the spiculations are meant to cease.
