Thunderbird CC Question

I've never been able to figure out how to employ CC. When I'm writing a
e-mail message, and I'm in the "to" field, I pressed shift tab, and it
says to pulldown combox closed. I then arrowed down and it says CC
combox closed. Am I correct in assuming that the combo box has to be

RE: question about paring WE with HIMS and paragraph symbols

2016-12-13 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Grant: are you using the braille settings specifically for Word, or are you
expecting this behaviour to be global? It might just need to be the toggle
within settings/braille/attribute markings which will fix this.

HIMS is correct in that attribute markings and the like are specific to screen
readers.

However: there are some long standing mistakes with the hard coding of braille
hot keys which AI Squared seems unwilling to fix. Raised the issue about five
years ago when I got my first Braille Edge.

In general: I find the Edge's USB connection to Windows very solid, but aspects
of the Window-Eyes interface need to be improved.

Vaughan.

Subject: question about paring WE with HIMS and paragraph symbols

Hi Listers,
I use the Braille Edge 40 as my braille display with my win7 32 bit pc and
WindowEyes 9.5.3.
In the word processors for HIMS I can display the symbol for a new paragraph
which is dots 1246 and dots 1234.
When I am reading or writing in NotePad on my pc, I have not been able to get
the paragraph symbol to show up. Has anyone on the list discovered how to do
this using WindowEyes?
I called HIMS and they said that it is strictly up to the specifics of which
pc, screen reader and operating system.
If you have been able to get a HIMS braille display to work with WindowEyes and
particularly to get the “new paragraph” symbol to show up, I would appreciate
knowing how it is done.

Thanks much!

Given what you are asking in your note below, it might even be worth taking

Re: Question, What is JART?

2016-12-07 Thread Linette Sukup via Talk

Jarte is a wonderful little writing program. It is designed for people
who want something to write with and don't want/need all the bells and
whistles contained in Office and programs like it. I don't exactly
remember when I downloaded it, but I find it very accessible.

Peace.

This is an odd question. When Sending email using Windows Live Mail, is
there any way to Save a copy of the Email Sent?

In other mail programs, there is usually a folder for Sent mail, but I
am not seeing one in Windows Live Mail.Is there one? And if so,
where do I find it, or flip a switch to have one?

Thanks,

Dave, Yes, you can save your messages. There is a sent messages folder. If
you are in the in box where your messages are listed, press shift-tab one
time and you should hear folders tree view. Down arrow to sent. Tab one
time to see the messages in that folder. Hope it helps.

Question about the volume mixer

2016-11-27 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Listers,

I'm wondering if any of you have a solution when it comes to the volume
mixer in Windows 10, and I guess any previous Windows version.

If I start and stop a number of IE processes, I end up with a field for
each of there volume settings. I would think that the previous session
that has been since closed would disappear, but it doesn't causing me to
have to tab through a number of fields until I readh the appropriate one
so that I can raise or lower or mute. None of these others similar
fields are at all usable. Is there anything I can do about this? The
only logical thing I can think of to do in these circumstances is to
refresh the screen, but this does nothing in this particular settings
window.

Any helpful suggestions would really be appreciated,

Larry

as soon as I try to send the message using alt-s I then get the message:

Re: question about thunder and its file asociation

2016-09-22 Thread Bernie Perella via Talk
HI, I think the problem you described is related to some rather severe
focus problems in WE. I have found many instances where We does not
load the appropriate setfiles. In your case, after you have gone to the
We control panle and discovered that the TB setfile is not loaded, tab
until you get to the minimize button and the you will be back in TB. If
you then press control backslash to go back to the WE control panel, you
will find that the TB setfile is now loaded. Bernie

So how do you get the set file for Thunderbird to load when the program

Like you would hear like lets say if you have word open and you would
then hit control backslash and hear window-eyes tell you word and
whatever file was running.
So maybe this is the problem and so how do you get Thunderbird to do this?

2016-09-22 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk
hahah when i first read the subject line I had to
wonder what thunder was.

I've changed the subject line a bit to better reflect stuff.

anyways, for me, when i'm writing a message, pressing control shift t
keystroke says Thunderbird write set, association none normal. So it
would appear that there's a set file for when you're writing a message,
but not when you're reading them. I know we can close and re-open
Window-eyes to stop the repeating thing from happening, but i'd love it
if the Window-eyes developers would at least acknowledge that they know
the problem does exist for some folks at least? It'd make me feel a
little better. It's always nice when you're having an issue, even if
it's a slight one, and someone says they hear it and will do their best
to fix it in the next release.

Is there a way to do this?
Using the latest Windows 10 Pro anivercery eddition.

Thanks for any help you can give.

RE: question re ms excell

2016-08-23 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Robin's suggestion is a good one. But, I have discovered a keyboard strategy
for renaming the current Excel sheet that does not require use of the Mouse.
Here are the steps:
1. Navigate to the sheet you want to rename with Control-Page Up or
Control-Page Down
2. Activate the Home tab in the Ribbon with Alt-H
3. Activate the Format button to open its pull down menu with O
4. Select Rename from the pull down menu with R (or Down Arrow to Rename and
press Enter)
5. Your focus will move to the sheet's name edit field and the current name
will be selected. Type in the new name (it will overwrite the current name) and
press Enter.
Best,
Marc

I haven't found how to do this in the menus or with a keyboard shortcut, but
here's what I have found can work.
1. Use Control Shift F to open the Window Eyes find dialog box, then type in
the name of the sheet (for example "Sheet1" without the quotes) and hit enter.
The mouse will route to the correct sheet tab along the bottom of the Excel
window.
2. Right mouse click with either the physical mouse or by hitting the right
click button on the mouse navigation keys on the numpad - it's the asterisk key
or the key just above the 9 on the numpad. Hitting the the application context
key or Shift F10 does not work because that opens the context menu for where
the cursor is. A menu will open once you mouse click.
3. Rename is one of the options on the menu. Hit that option, then the text of
the current sheet name will be pre-selected, so just starting to type will
overwrite the current name. Hit enter when done.

Re: Found Extended Dictionary app, but a question

2016-08-17 Thread David via Talk
Since this thread is a bit old, I won't start a prolonged discussion
about the matter. I just want to ask what makes you believe there is a fee?

When installing the app, you are presented a license agreement. The very
first paragraph reads:

---Quote:
You - the end-user of the Extended Dictionary package - are granted the
rights to use this app, free of charge, on any computer within the
license periode.
You have the right to run it simultaneously, or individually, on as
many computers as you want.
---End Of Quote.

Read this paragraph carefully. It CLEARLY states, the license is "FREE
OF CHARGE". How much clearer do you want it to be written? If you have a
better way of phrasing that a product is free of charged for a licensed
period, let me know. But even your freeware anti-virus software, will be
free of charge, for the licensed period. I really am not sure, what in
that phrase ever would lead anyone to believe there is a fee? If there
had been a fee, would it not have stated so, and definitely abstained
from claiming "free of charge"?

Window-Eyes for Office, is likewise a product, offered to you as a "free
of charge" product, for the time Microsoft keeps that licensing feature
running. I have never seen any of you asking if there is a fee on that
product. Do you claim that the free edition of AVG, Avast, Nod32 - is
unclear if it has a fee, even if your license agreement on any of these
products will (often in far more complicated terms) state that the
product is under a free license? Again, should any of you have a better
way of phrasing the FREE OF CHARGE statement, I am willing to have my
English capacity adjusted.

PLEASE, will you abstain from arguing why the license is limited. All
developers of any product have their right to license their product for
whatever timespan they may decide. Reasons may be many, and often deeply
dug into more complicated conditions. Again, take the free offer of the
screen reader, for MSOffice users. It is only licensed long as that
arrangement is in place. When you use a free edition of your Anti-virus
or -spyware, it is licensed for free, within a certain scope. Do you
question why? I am not going to deal with a long discussion on WHY
things are the way they are, only trying to figure why anyone has got
the idea there is a fee on my product, all the time, the very first two
lines you are met with, so definite and clearly states that there exists
no such fee.

Could it be a small suggestion for you all, to please read the text
carefully? Should you have any further feedback on the matter, or the
software itself, would you please contact me directly on:
 trailerda...@hotmail.com
I will do my best, to answer your queries.

Regards,
David

Hi, Larry. I tried the extended dictionary app in its early version and
didn't like it so I uninstalled it. I am not trying to discourage you from
trying it out. No, there is no license fee. I can't see what sense it
would make for an app creator to allow users of Window-eyes to be able to
download free apps and then to charge a license fee. I understand that you
wish to be careful. I will download free apps when available, but I
wouldn't want to download a free app and have to pay a license fee .

For those who use this app,

I see that a license is required for use of this app. Am I to understand
from this that there might be a fee associated with acquiring said license,
and if so, how much.

This sure looks like a most useful app, and might be worth paying for,
though I wouldn't want to give anybody any ideas .

Anyway, looks rather exciting.

Append To Clipboard App Question

2016-08-12 Thread Ted Larson via Talk
Dear List:

Can the append to clipboard be used only once?

I copied chapter one of a book to the clipboard. Then I selected chapter
two and appended it to the clipboard. When I tried to append chapter three,
it said error. Then, when I read the clipboard, chapter three was at the
beginning and chapters one and two had disappeared. Is this the way it is
supposed to be, you can only append one time? Regards: Ted Larson

Question on Media Creation Tool and Windows 10

2016-08-06 Thread John Farley via Talk
Hello list,

Can the entire process of upgrading a PC in a Windows 7 Pro environment to
the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10 Pro be done with Window-Eyes alone?
That is, there is no need to run any other screen reader in order to
complete the process.

Using this link, my tablet is in the first reboot. I didn't have any
display error issues.
I downloaded the media creation utility that is 17mb.

I won't be truly happy until it is complete but didn't have any issues up
until the first reboot.
To Be Continued...

NetBat,

The media creation tool worked. As I'm writing this, windows 10
anniversary addition is being installed. Thanks for the tip!

I used the media creation tool when I first installed windows 10, but I
didn't scroll down far enough on the Microsoft page to see this tool
when I tried this upgrade.

RE: A question about Teem viewer remote software

2016-08-03 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi,
You can use TeamViewer to connect to other machines. It won't be of any use
until the remote has Window-eyes running as you would get no audio feedback.
You probably could run narrator on the remote to get you going.

The person on the other end would need to install TeamViewer and give you the
codes you need to remote in to the other machine.

Also, if I am asked to join a meeting using teem viewer, once logged in,
would I be able to access controls on the teem viewer screen to send

Thank you so much.

Re: question to neville about bullguard

2016-07-26 Thread Neville via Talk

Hi,
Whenever a file is treated as a possible threat by Bullguard, it is
removed and shown in the Quarantine list. This is shown under antivirus.
You will need to have all punctuation on and press enter on the line
of three or four dots. Use the WE screen review feature also try the
arrow keys. Unfortunately Bullguard does not talk all that well but most
things can be accomplished with a bit of practice and experimentation.

In the quarantine, each file needs to have a check activated in front of
the file name and unfortunately this box does not talk or is not
tabable. You will need a pair of eyes to do it or have some way of
marking the position. If you have ever used the Auto Hot Key Macro
programme, it is simple to write a macro to click on the correct spot.

Following is a message received from support@bullguard com on how to
restore the file. However, the two WE files were not returned to their
folder so after going through the exercise shown below, I had to
manually copy the files from a backup and then delete them from
quarantine. Other restores have worked correctly though.

HTH
Neville.

 1. Open BullGuard and from the upper menu access Settings > Advanced.
2. Move to the Antivirus section and turn off the Antivirus Protection.
press space on the first checkbox
3. Click on the "back" button (<-) to return to the main interface. This
does not talk so press alt F4 and come back in.

4. In the Antivirus section click on the [...] button and select Quarantine.
5. Place a checkmark in front of the quarantined file, then click on
Restore.

6. Go back in Settings > Antivirus > Tuning.
7. Place a checkmark for "Skip files/folders".
8. Click on the "files/folders" link and then on the plus button to add
the path of the file to the scanning exceptions and confirm with OK.

9. Go up to Antivirus and re-enable the Antivirus Protection.

Hi John,

Actually, this is a very appropriate topic, as it involves the accessibility
of a commonly-used program.
I just tried this myself, and believe me, I appreciate your frustration with
these newest versions of iTunes.
At first, I couldn't see my playlists either, but then I tabbed around a
bit, came back to the list of playlist, arrowed down a bunch of times, and,
lo and behold, the playlists I created appeared mixed in with those you
mentioned.

Beginning with this ent version of iTunes (actually the previous version,

are pre-set ones - Classical Music, 90's music, etc, that I didn't make.
What secret key do I need to press to get my playlists back?

Thanks. If this isn't a topic appropriate to this list, I apologize.

RE: Question about Itunes and Windoweyes

2016-07-23 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi John,

Actually, this is a very appropriate topic, as it involves the accessibility
of a commonly-used program.
I just tried this myself, and believe me, I appreciate your frustration with
these newest versions of iTunes.
At first, I couldn't see my playlists either, but then I tabbed around a
bit, came back to the list of playlist, arrowed down a bunch of times, and,
lo and behold, the playlists I created appeared mixed in with those you
mentioned.
That's the secret to this new version of iTunes: tab around and arrow a
whole lot and things eventually appear.

Good luck,

Rod

Off topic question - latest Skype

2016-07-20 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Hi all

On installing the latest Skype, I got an error message about possible ad
blocking software in Internet Explorer, and I could not sign in. Going
back to an earlier version has fixed this, but I wondered if this was
behavior others had experienced with the latest Skype?

For now, I have to keep hitting "not now" when the program is so
desperately inviting me to do what it laughably calls "upgrade".

Robert,
I suspect that Alt-F is still opening the File tab in the ribbon, but
intermittently you aren't getting any speech feedback from Window-Eyes. I
have seen this in the past and is probably related to a focus issue. In more
recent versions of Office and Windows, this issue seems to be less common.
So, Rod's suggestion is a good workaround to try. You can also try arrowing
up and down after pressing Alt-F to see if the menu items are announced by
Window-Eyes. I also wanted to make sure you knew that there is a keyboard
shortcut built into Word that executes the Save As command. The shortcut is
F12. I can't think of a faster way to open up the Save As dialog in an
Office application. Also, there is a comprehensive Window-Eyes webinar on
Word 2013 and much of it applies to Word 2010. Part 1 covers navigating the
Ribbon. Here is a link to the MP3 recording:
http://getwindoweyes.com/Audio_Video_Archive/Presentations/audio/Word2013.mp3.
Hope that helps.

Best,
Marc

While in a Word 2010 document, I used to be able to hit alt F. This would
give me several choices such as Save, Don’t Save, Exit, Close, Save As.

I use the Save As to make a copy for back up or for a template.

All of a sudden, for no reason at all, the alt F does nothing.

How can I get this key stroke back?

HELLO, TOM,

Is that better? We miss you and your sense of humor!!

We have no idea why we lost power, but it’s interesting to find out how people
amuse themselves when they can’t see to read or play games and the T.V. doesn’t
work! Dick is fascinated with weather, so he gave me updates on the skies even
though I could hear the thunder and read my talking book due to a battery.
(smile) I could have played cards, too, but Dick can’t read braille!

We will say “hello” to Herb for you. You, apparently, made a great impression
on him. He remembered your names and where you sat!

Oh, we do hope you get to go out for dinner, again! That reminds me that I
need to make a luncheon reservation at the Lake Elmo Inn for our 48th
celebration. Our favorite waitress graduated with her Master’s and now work
as a social worker, so we had to find a new “favorite.” Jody is trying to
fit the bill, so we’ll give her another order.

The first year of gardening in a new area is like a test: You and Mary will
pass, but some of the vegetables will have to be held back!

You know that politics and religion are off limit topics! The young (53) man
across the street always tells his mother where she is wrong, she listens
and does what she wants to do. They are crazy about each other, and he is
very protective of her. They are fun to watch. (laugh)

No, Mary did not tell me that she was on oxygen. Is that because of the
LAM? I admire her! And she can handle Washington, C.C., and anything else
she chooses to get involved with.

Serving coffee is a great place or you—you are friendly, have a great sense
of humor (did I mention that before?), and psychology is right up your
alley! Psychology and friendliness probably helps you push the wheelchairs,
too.

Did you find another art class to join? Would your artistic creations be
given to a Lam fund raiser?

Hot and humid weather does make everybody uncomfortable. Your rainfall is
below average? According to the National Weather Service, you get rain
storms all the time! Of course, the NWS is usually wrong about our weather!
Is the weather and bending over the worst having to your back?

Has Tom, Jr. gone back on his meds?

Thinking that John can do well at whatever he tries, it is Amazon’s loss not
to have hired him full-time. It’s hard to see what God is doing. Right now
does Gianna (your bias is showing) living full-time with John? Is a social
worker involved and one who could speak on behalf of John to the judge?
Naturally, Ginny blames John; otherwise, she would have to take at least
some of the blame. Is Ginny living with her parents? Oh, dear!

We enjoyed your note, miss you, and keep you in our prayers,

Trish?

You could also do Windows-I for Settings, End to get to Windows Update,
followed by Enter.

Re: Firefox Question

2016-07-09 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Hi,

Under tools, options, general, there is, after pressing tab once, a
choice of home page, previous page or blank page. If you choose home
page, you will need to set a page of your choosing by typing in the web
site after pressing tab one more time. Tab to OK and press enter.

If you choose a blank page, you can still get to your home page by
pressing alt-home.

Casey,

You can get a trial or purchase QRead at
http://q-continuum.net/qread/
It's $30.00.

I can't remember if it handles the association to make itself the
default when you install it. If not you should find that option when you
open a PDF with it via the context menu. It also handles many other
types of files, such as Bookshare and ePub.

You don't have to make any changes. It was written by a blind programmer

Personally I use QRead to read .pdf files. It does a nice job and my
favorite feature is it will place you back in the document you were in when
you last opened it.
You can also use screen reader familiar commands to move between headings
etc in the file.

Not sure what it would do with a pdf that has a form in it.

Hello Tom,

Oh well, I have a little egg on my face on this one I'm afraid. There is
one file that indeed must be a scanned image, as in Chairman Gowdy's
letter to Paul Ryan, because no matter how I tried to save or reproduce
it, it was reported to be an empty file, but the others appear to be
textual. Carol Smith was kind enough to convert the letter file for me.

I went to the trouble of converting them all to text files, but I
think
I'm going to try to set up the reader so that I can explore the files
that way. I need to find the accessibility features and see if that wont
help a bit. I know they're there, I just have to locate them again.

As you can see, I don't find myself reading too many .pdf files.

At present, it seems that I am only set up to read one page at a time,
and although I should be able to use the right and left arrow keys to
move from page to page, it doesn't seem to be working that way for me.
Of course, I really don't think I want to use the reader in that way for
obvious reasons. I prefer to use arrows to move between characters and
words like with any other reader. Maybe I'll break down and just get
QRead and just avoid the whole mess.

Anyway, thanks for looking into this matter for me. I'll try to be a bit
more careful in my assessment of the situation next time.

Take care,

Larry

2016-06-25 Thread David Crowell via Talk
Hi Ted,

Don't know if anyone has helped you yet on this problem but here are simple
directions on how to make the oldest emails be at the top and newest at the
bottom arranged by date.

First press ALT V then A and make sure Date is checked then press escape to
go back to email list. Then:
Alt + V press V key
press the C key
presst the S key
Make sure received is selected in the Sort by
Hit the Tab key
Arrow up or down to Ascending
Tab to OK
Tab to ok
Now you are back at your email list and the newest emails should be at the
bottom.

Hope this helped.

Dear List:
I have migrated from outlook express to outlook 2007. With my outlook
express, my messages were arranged with the oldest on the top in date
ascending order so that the newest were at the end. However, with my
outlook 2007, the newest are listed first. How do I reverse this to get the
latest listed at the end? Thanks. Regards: Ted Larson

Mike, I choose to answer on list in the hope and belief that the answer given
will help others thinking along the same line as you.

When you say you are getting a Galaxy phone, please permit me to ask which one?
There are many Galaxy phones! The most common one used by the blind is the S
series like S3, S4, S5, S6, ETC. There's the J series and several others in
the Galaxy phone line up.

Galaxy phones run Android operating system. Version on the Galaxy you're
getting will depend on how long the Galaxy phone in question has been out there
and whether or not it is upgradable to the latest version of Android.

If you are coming to the Android platform from iOS, be prepared to learn new
ways of doing business on a smartphone. Three-finger tap gestures is not an
Android thing, although on the Galaxy S6 and its related cousins, using Voice
Assistance, Samsung's equivalent of the Google TalkBack screen reader, this
gesture is available. Based on information I have read here and there, the
Voice Assistance DOES NOT quite match what Google Talkback has to offer and is
not regularly updated. On the S6 and its related cousins, it is my
understanding that Google Talkback is NOT installed by default; so, you'll need
to grab a copy from the Playstore and install it.

Please note that there will necessarily be a good learning curve if you are
electing to play with an Android phone! If you are not ready for the
challenge, I recommend that you hold on to your iOS device.

You can learn more about Android by subscribing to the eyes-free mailing list;
send a blank message to:

eyes-free+subscr...@googlegroups.com

The list is run by Google, and is UNMODERATED! It can be a high-traffic list
especially when tempers flare! This occurs most of the time when iPhone
enthusiasts begin to compare their toy with Android devices andthinking both
devices should function the same way. No, Android will never ever be like iOS!
Hope this has been somewhat helpful!

Sincerely,
Olusegun
