Beste,

samenhangend coherent *fietssnel*wegen-netwerk

2

[OSM-talk-be] Fwd: 25th July #MapLesotho International Mapathon

Subject: 25th July #MapLesotho International Mapathon
First off, apologies for cross posting, trying to spread the word to as
large an audience as possible.

tl;dr, a group of Irish OpenStreetMap members are organising a mapathon
on 25th July to map large sections of Lesotho and we are looking for
individuals or groups to participate from around the world. Presently we
have 3 groups participating from Lesotho, Ireland, Germany.

We will be using the HOT tasking manager to coordinate 2 large tasks
- Rural - identify and map the outline of settlements, the major routes
to and from these settlements and any major features (rivers, lakes etc)

- Urban - Trace building outlines and complete road networks

A bit of background

In conjunction with Action Ireland Trust [1], a number of Irish OSM
members from Fingal County Council [2] traveled to Lesotho for a number
of weeks in 2013 and then again early in 2014 to assist and train
district planners in utilising OSM data. This was done in agreement with
the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftainship and the Chief
Physical Planner of Lesotho. The trip culminated in an historic
memorandum of understanding between Lesotho and Fingal County Council [3]

Another group are planning to travel in early 2015 with the following
objectives as part of their visit:
- Create an OSM community in Lesotho by engaging with local communities
and providing training and guidance on surveying and updating OSM

- Create a basemap of the country for use by all
- Create an evidence base for decision makers
- Create an awakeness of Urban Design

Further details can be found on the wiki page [4]

Thanks,

Dave (DaCor)

Guido Gezelle straat ((Dichter, 1830-1899))

Interesting information, but technically not really part of the name

I had the same question. Checked the wiki, and it seems everyone has
that question and there is no real answer.

I'm reusing nodes. This means it is a bit harder to edit (although it is
perfectly supported and possible by JOSM), but it gives a much cleaner
result on the map.

Got a question with respect to the landuse.
I see different ways of connecting different neighbouring land-uses.
Is it recommended to reuse the same points, or as I did, just draw the
borders very close to each other.

Beste Johan,

Ik was het afgelopen jaar mede-organisator van State of the Map 2009
in Amsterdam.

in Brussel, de State of the Map 2010 te organiseren?

[OSM-talk-be] Cycleway or path?

2009-11-14 Thread Johan Huysmans
Hi all,

I always find the hardest part of the mapping the choice of the tags.

For example, near the Dender between Dendermonde and Aalst
http://tile.openstreetmap.nl/?zoom=16lat=50.99664lon=4.07958layers=B0FFF.
This is a way about 2m wide with asfalt (A car can drive there but isn't
allowed).

Which is the preferred tagging of such road?

I always use:
highway = cycleway

But some time ago Emai changed this to:
highway = path
bicycle = yes
vehicle = no
surface = paved

I don't want to start an edit war, therefore I throw this question in
the group.

Greetings Johan

Re: [OSM-talk-be] Openstreetmap Foundation: the Belgian Chapter

2009-09-04 Thread Johan Huysmans
Hi,

I've just read through the wiki page and got some remarks:

(Artikel 2)
Is there a difference in the gerechterlijke arrondisimenten?
If there are some big differences we can choose the best arrondisement
to create our zetel van de vereniging.

(Artikel 3)
As purpose of the VZW we can include the maintenance of the logging
devices, openstreetmap.be name etc.
In that case they are managed and owned by a group of people instead of
1 single person.

Can you also add the link to the openstreetmap Foundation providing
information about the local chapters?

Greetings Johan

 Hi all,

I have prepared a rudimentary vzw/asbl-stub on the wiki with the statutes of
 a
so-called future Openstreetmap Belgian Chapter. Something that should happen
 some time, I thought.

 Check: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Belgium/Chapter

The basic idea here is to create a legal entity that is available locally to
work with Belgian instances like government, press, commercial businesses,
 etc.
Instead of going to the public, wast money, on a personal basis. So, this
entity should represent the people involved in the OpenStreetMap movement in
our region in a legal and practical way. I hope you can support this.

The page refered to is in dutch right right now, just as a starting point to
start to discuss (translation help to french is really appreciated). I am not
100% up to speed with MediaWiki mark-up, so this page also looks pretty
horrible at the moment. I hope that it at least communicates some of the bare
essentials however. I have ripped the basic structure from
http://www.lokalenmap.be/VZW/statuten. Please rip the current page apart at
will to increase readability and multi-language support :)

To be clear, the page might probably need to be translated in French, to be
comform with the Belgian low for vzw/asbl organisations, but I don't know
precisely. Maybe, we even could write the whole thing in English and get that
submitted, but I don't know if that is allowed.

Besides the local representation it is of importance to note that the
 vzw+asbl
should preferably be accepted as local representation of OpenStreetMap by the
OpenstreetMap Foundation (OSMF). For this to happen we have to adhere to some
rules of the OSMF. Those requirements are in the works howerver. I guess that
setting up our own structure to match those requirement is a worthwhile
excercise. Regarding these requirements, please read:
 http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Foundation/Local_Chapters#Why_Local_Chapters.3F

Please voice your opinion. And help work out the statuten/(french translation
 please).

The biggest hurdle at this time I think besides from the paperwork is, that
according to the current Local_Chapters wiki page OSMF asks for 20 signed
members. That means you and some 18 others, please regard me as a de facto
volenteer, by posting this email :)

Please note that I am not a Lawyer, and the text is in draft. The official
document or documents (nl-fr) describing and launching the vzw/asbl, should
preferably be proof-read by someone knowledgable in the field of the
 applicable
 law which applies in Belgium.

And, even if you don't fancy becoming a member of the vzw/asbl, you could
 help
here too, by involving yourself or somebody that knows about the vzw/asbl law
in fine detail and help out that way.

 Bye,

 Ivom

Re: [OSM-talk-be] verslag Antwerps OSM-café op 21 juni

2009-07-03 Thread Johan Huysmans

passen. (onderbord uitgezonderd fietsers, evt. Ook uitgezonderd
 bromfietsen klasse A)

'For roads used
 mainly/exclusively for pedestrians/shopping areas.'

 Hallo iedereen,

 Ik heb vorige week hier
 (http://www.openfietskaart.nl/?zoom=15lat=51.01153lon=4.06317layers=BFTTTFFFT)
in Belgie een fietsroute toegevoegd. Dit was trouwens mn eerste
 fietsroute ;)

 beter bekijken.

 Mvg,

Re: [OSM-talk] osmxapi/bbox question

2008-04-18 Thread Johan Huysmans
Hi,

Currently i'm working with the bbox of Belgium, but this bbox includes
parts of the Netherlands, France,..

And this gives me some problems... it appears that some places in
Belgium also exists in the Netherlands or France.

Apparently it is only possible to use bbox-es to limit the size.
Are there any ideas or plans to implement some way you can limit the
size for eg. a country?

Is there a known mapping that give you the exact bbox for each

That's exactly what i mean/want :D

That way you can call the osmxapi url with [polygon=belgium] or
[polygon:country=belgium]

What do the osmxapi developers think about it?

And a combination of both? Does that exists.

Now my php script just eats all memory when parsing the osm file :(

I tried to upload the same file, but uncompressed and it imported

Is there anything wrong with the gzip support?

It's more a case of ruby, as normal, sucking exceeding large
boulders through really, really teeny straws.

The arose as a result of me moving the import daemon to a
different machine the other day. Unfortunately the new machine
is running ruby 1.8.4 rather than 1.8.5 like the old machine
and that was enough to break import of compressed traces.

I'm quite impressed it's taken about 36 hours for anybody to
notice that it was broken... Hopefully it's fixed now as I have
now engaged it a bit more creative ruby hacking.

If anybody really cares about the gory details, the problem is
that the ruby Tempfile class does not (as might seem obvious at
first glance) derive from the File class but rather from something
 called DelegateClass(File).

Now DelegateClass(File) is supposed to delegate calls which are
not handled by Tempfile methods to the File class but it does a
rather half assed job of it - in particular it does not ensure
that kind_of? File works, so Tempfile does not look like a File
object (or like an IO object which File derives from).

So when the XML parser asked if the source it was being asked
to import from was kind_of? IO the answer was no and it threw
 a wobbly.

In ruby 1.8.5 the XML parser no longer does the kind_of? IO test
on the source - instead it uses respond_to? to make sure that the
source responds to the methods it needs. As DelegateClass does
handle respond_to? calls correctly this works.

 Hi Rodrigo,

Well there are plans, I already installed Mono in my machine, so I guess
I made a first step :) . MoMA doesn't report too many errors, but I am
a little bit skeptical about this - sounds too good to be true :) . I

[OSM-talk-nl] city/town/village definities

2007-09-28 Thread Johan Huysmans
Hey iedereen,

Alvast bedankt!
