Re: [OSM-talk] How to handle Maps.Me garbage?
just checked a few of the edits and deleted some nodes. Lee Jin-Jeong did add a couple of things that were already there and in the case of an hostel several times. In Kiev the user added a Korean church with the name "Kiev Korean Unified Church" in Korean. The location is a bit curious though in an industrial aera, but I left that as is. Re: [OSM-talk] How to handle Maps.Me garbage?
Did you miss the ongoing thread on this subject? [1] Max even said something about Korean names there too, though this is about the reversed situation [2]. I have no ideas if the names in Korean in your case are transliterations of the local name. You should of course contact the mapper with the explanation that name is for local names. Though as mentioned in the other thread, maps.me seems to be working on a way to handle this situation better. I would hate to see all the wrong use of the name tags in a place like this [3] reverted, but it looks like most of the POIs from this mapper need local surveying. Like Martin said, add a fixme, or convert it into a Note. 1: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2016-June/076114.html 2: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2016-June/076128.html 3: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/13.76370/100.49954 ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Still for some features I bet there is also a Corean name (e.g. the Colosseum). Additionally there might already be a Chinese or Corean name at the feature, and if they differ from the new one, you'd really have to know the language to do it right. In some cases I have not been able to even deduct what they wanted to tag, e.g. for tourism=attraction (a tag maps.me should not set at all in their simple editor IMHO), or things without tags other than name and maybe addressing and website, phone numbers etc. I would add fixme tags and decide on an individual basis how to deal with it. Still, despite all lamentation, I admit that the amount of surveyed addressing information we are getting this way is great (precision to be confirmed).
