[Talk-us] How to map deviation areas for routes?
Here in Tulsa (and apparently Wichita as well, along with Cherokee Nation Transit, Kibois Area Transit System, and presumably most midwestern agencies) have a concept of deviation area on their routes. In such a case, you can be picked up or dropped off anyplace they can fit a bus (usually a 15-to-30 passenger Ford Econoline or Freightliner Sprinter-based straight-van bus conversion), assuming you either call in advance for pickup, or let the driver know where you want out when you board. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Helping out OpenStreetMap Belgium Working Group! (was: 'Mapper of the month')
A french cyclist association create this map : http://bicyclette69.free.fr/carte/carte.html. This map is really nice. But I think they use maperitive which is proprietary. Why not create an XML mapnik style to have an equivalent map ? I think about starting with osm bright ( https://github.com/mapbox/osm-bright/ ) and adding cycling feature... I never do this but I think that we can use Tilemill ( https://www.mapbox.com/tilemill/ ) to create the carto css file that can be converted into the xml mapnik style. Proposing to cyclists a way to create easily a cycling map can attract a lot of persons. And the message is very simple : you like this map ? you want it for your city ? it is simple : encode (properly) the cycling infrastructure in OSM and you'll have the map. For the Gracq there exists a lot of local chapter ( http://www.gracq.be/GRACQ/006Contacts-002Locales ). I involve in the Mons chapter and the people of the chapter are very interested to discover OSM (and why not generate a map) and most of the people of the Gracq will go to the 25 Avril event as it is a training on a special subject. For your information, a colleague of mine (Michel Willemse) who registered and will be present, is an active cyclist. He has already contacted Gracq, fietsersverbond ... GRACQ has reacted very positively ... but for the date : they already have a cyclist event in the very nearby parc de Bruxelles. Michel's idea is that, if the weather permit, instead or on top of doing some activities to start with and describe OSM, what can be done during the morning ... we (or at least some of us) do something similar at the Parc for the cyclist, leveraging the large number of cyclists who will be present for Gracsq's event. We could do so simply by preparing paper maps to fill and some printed papers to distribute stating where to download mapilliary / osmand (or the best OSM mapping tool), what to do ... I am thinking to a 1 page, simple to read, instructions. Yes, as Marc proposes, next time, we'll contact the walkers groups and maybe the people responsible for tourism in Brussels. We could also leverage them to better describe Brussels as a touristic place and map everything that could be touristically interessant and make links to descriptions (if possible text + sounds + videos) But this will be for another time. I am even considering that one activity that could become repetitive, with a short repeat time (if handled by the tourist authorities who pay a leader) would be guided tours of Brussels with mapping purposes. I am dreaming of tours every saturday morning for example, where walkers in the city would discover a new location in the city and at the same time map everything they encounter during the visit. Can you imagine what a good map we would hava after one year only ? With many information and on top, 52 guided tours on OSM. IMHO by hlavní mapa měla renderovat co nejvíce a poskytovat referenční design. Speciální mapy by měli spíše odebírat a zvýrazňovat. Re: [OSM-talk-be] wadi
___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr

The OSM inspector already has a display mode for ways with long segments - it currently however seems it is not working: http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=geometryoverlays=ways_with_long_segments,long_segments And it has a fairly low threshold (0.3 degrees - that is ~40km) so it highlights quite a lot of stuff. With an additional layer highlighting only the very long segments (like above 300km segment length) you could quickly see such issues. On 2015-02-25 14:49, Sander Deryckere wrote : Some of them are digitised, some aren't. You can go to http://www.kbr.be/collections/cart_plan/collections/collections_nl.html then under Kadastrale plannen, click on one of the provinces (For Luik, click on a different, random province, for Luxembourg, there are no maps sadly). This opens the search website which gives you no results (but at least brings you to the right page). On that page, go to Cartes et plans = Kaarten en plannen, and this time, click on the correct province. Then you see a list of municipalities (from the 19th century, with old spelling), sorted by arrondissement. Then you can open the scan reader by clicking on the image (not the title). You'll see that the map gets a copyright mark, this means that the map as image is protected. However, the data you can deduce from the map isn't altered since the creation of it (it isn't rectified nor georeferenced), so it's usable for OSM. As there's no export option, the easiest way to use it is to zoom in to certain parts, and make screenshots. I normally made 4 screenshots for a normal village, with a bit of overlap. However, the maps may be so skewed that you need to adapt the reference points depending on the part of boundary you're drawing. If what you explain is what I saw, you can right-click-save the image but that's poor quality, see below. Note that not all villages are present. Sometimes you're lucky that all surrounding villages of a certain village are present, then you also have the boundaries. Other times, it might take guesswork, or using even worse (older) maps. Just having a discussion here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:craft%3Dsaddler In German you also often find something like a Autosattlerei which means car-saddlery (usually doing car seats).
Re: [OSM-talk] talk Digest, Vol 127, Issue 13
I have just added this comment to the page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Proposed_features/hazard Subdivision of the hazard namespace To me it would come naturally to subdivide the namespace as follows for different users of the road: - hazard:general= - hazard:pedestrian= - hazard:motor_vehicle= - hazard:bicycle= - etc. (This could absorb 1:1 the existing cycle_hazard tagging) The main reason for such a subdivision is obviously that the hazards for the different users are different. Re: [Talk-GB] Is a saddlery limited to horses? (BE English)
I would limit it to animals in general, not just horses - donkeys, camels, ostriches, elephants, giant tortoises etc etc can also have saddles. It can also be used in other contexts such as engineering, where it would mean a component for spreading a load evenly in some way. Motorcycles also have saddles, not seats (with the possible exception of some three-piece suites on wheels?) But car seats are definitely not saddlery IMHO, they come under upholstery. No,... jak bych ti to jenom sdělil :-).
