Re: [OSM-talk-be] a slightly more formal meetup

2016-10-12 Thread Jonathan Beliën
MapTime does indeed seems very cool.

Warn us when « our » chapter is ready :D

MolenGeek is not that far :

· 6 minutes from « Gare Centrale » (METRO 1)

· 16 minutes from « Garde du Nord » (TRAM 4 + METRO 1)

· 18 minutes from « Gare du midi » (TRAM 51 or METRO 6 + 1)

But indeed, it requires to use STIB/MIVB ^_^

There is probably good places near the city center (but I do not know any).

This maptime thing is quite cool, Jorieke.

More info here: http://maptime.io/about/

I went ahead and created a chapter :)

Really something we should do together with OSgeo.

The best date from the poll was Monday, November 21st. So let's pin that one.

For a location:

- who has good contacts at ESI? Otherwise, I'll ask our prospective mapathon
contact there.

- Molengeek looks really cool, but rather far from the railway stations.

- during SotM, I wrote down the names of two more cool things similar to
Molengeek. And I lost them! Anyone have an idea what they could have been?

But would anyone be interested in a little more formal thing? I

get about 50 participants, which sounds great. Don't worry, there
would be beers and lemonades afterwards.

The logical place would be Brussels, as it is the most central

think some of the amazing Brussels based people might be interested to

Anyway, I made a framadate to check if anyone is interested, and if

We can of course discuss the idea over a geuze at the next Brussels

ESI could indeed be a good place ;

I have good contacts with MolenGeek, a startup incubator in Molenbeek ; great

Could be good to put Molenbeek back on the « good guys » map :D

I think we have our speakers :)

(I myself would love to talk about GR mapping, Wegenregister and some of the
subjects Marc mentioned)

About the language thing: of the 155 people who opened our newsletter, 13
clicked through to the French translation, and 4 to the Dutch (it was the very
first link in view). I think that's really a lot of effort for little gain. If
we have more volunteers organizing stuff, I do agree it makes sense to talk to
people in their own language. Being extremely local does work: when I did a
meetup here in Halle, someone came from a small town 45 minutes away, because
he preferred going to something in a small town, rather than in nearby
Mechelen. But at this time, I think there's real value in doing things that are
open to both Brussels and Flemish people. Especially as we have Flemish
volunteers who have been working a little too hard, and a lot of energy in
Brussels right now.

And don't forget there is a huge international community in Brussels, for whom
often both French and Dutch are quite exotic.

So please do sign up on the framapad, and let's pick a date. Seems like
Jonathan will organize the whole thing :)

Seriously though, let me know if you're interested to help out and I'll keep

Re: [OSM-talk-be] a slightly more formal meetup

2016-10-04 Thread Jo
I would definitely be interested in such a meetup.

I can bring a projector and I can easily give a presentation about the ins
and outs of JOSM. I think I can even manage to do that in Dutch and French,
translating myself. Of course, once you do that, you'll find there are 2
people in the room who only understand English :-)

I know something about Overpass, umap and maperitive as well, but it's only
for JOSM I feel confident enough to address a 'public'. Of course, I would
definitely like to say more about the new pt_assistant plugin. We should
all try it out. It's not only meant for people who feel compelled to map
Public Transport. It also helps a lot to solve problems caused by 'normal'
editing before the data gets uploaded.

Re: [OSM-talk-be] a slightly more formal meetup

2016-10-04 Thread Marc Gemis
Hallo Joost,

after participating in two Bird of a Feather sessions at SOTM, I kept
wondering whether it would be interesting to have such sessions in
Belgium as well. I though about

* survey planning & survey (traditional / Mapillary / OpenStreetView)
* basic/ advanced editing in JOSM (e.g. PT assistent, but also GRB,
extra layers, etc.)
* how is OSM used (not sure eveyrbody knows this)
* Use of OsmAnd / OSM on Garmin / other apps ?
* Overpass
* umap (with overpass)
* Maperitive

Given some comments I received in the past about meetings in Brussels,
and talking in English there, I wonder whether 2 separate days
(Flemish/French) would be preferable.
During one of my presentations in Brussels, at least 1 person left the
room because it was not in French, and others didn't show up because
it was not in Flemish.
If we really want to get in touch with our local community, we might
have to do it in French/Dutch I think.

but I like the idea

regards

m

[OSM-talk-be] a slightly more formal meetup

2016-10-04 Thread joost schouppe
Hi,

I'm very happy to see another bar meetup in Brussels! [1] You should all
come :)

But would anyone be interested in a little more formal thing? I believe it
was in Hungaria where they frequently do meetups with two or three
presentations, roughly related to OpenStreetMap. They always get about 50
participants, which sounds great. Don't worry, there would be beers and
lemonades afterwards.

The logical place would be Brussels, as it is the most central location. It
takes a little more time and effort to organize, but I think some of the
amazing Brussels based people might be interested to help out.

Anyway, I made a framadate to check if anyone is interested, and if so,
when [2]. Interested to find out if anyone is willing to help or present
something.

We can of course discuss the idea over a geuze at the next Brussels meetup.
