Nick Hocking nick.hock...@gmail.com wrote on 05/01/2012 at 13:59:52 +1100 subject [OSM-legal-talk] Maxspeed tags in Australia : Would it be possible to have a version of the OSM licence change inspector which completely ignored tags of maxspeed source:maxspeed maxspeed:source whether for addition deletion or modification. This could be just for Australia. The reason is that in Australia an anonymous user has used a bot to add the maxspeed values for residential roads that did not already have them (the vast majority). This user used its own account to do this and has declined the CT. The values are often wrong anyway and it will be benificial for the data quality when these are finally purged. There is the possibility to declare a changeset als OK (did not find the wiki page where you can do it, but Frederick should be able do tell you). It was only a year later that I rediscovered OSM and realised that even though the streets were mapped, there were all sorts of other features that I could contribute like bike paths, drinking fountains, public toilets, local parks... [OSM-talk] Announcement: Trafficspeed.org, a free traffic speed information system
Copied from another user in the web forum... - I'm announcing the beta test phase for Trafficspeed.org, an Openstreetmap based traffic speed information system. This is a free-to-use, crowd-based system for handheld devices to provide up-to-date traffic speed information of the traffic at your location. I wasn't happy with existing systems to see traffic jams on my way to work, I can take alternate routes to work but there wasn't really a good system to help me making a quick decision which route to take. This systems does this. With the end of alpha testing, all features of the current development phase are fully enabled. We've been doing alpha testing in US/Oregon for the past couple of months so it's time to open this up to a larger audience now. It's working world wide even though I'm measuring latency to the US west coast servers to see how servers on other continents need to be distributed. Traffic data is provided by users that use the handheld's GPS to access traffic information. Everyone who sees this posting is probably going to be the first user in your area so the best way to create a base coverage is to use it with a group of friends or coworkers that have a similar way to work. Also any track sign posted as 4wd only should be marked in it's entirety as 4wd_only=yes. What's the difference between NPWS sign states 4WD only (You can be fined real money for disobeying these signs), You'd be crazy to drive a Commodore down here and Holy shit, how'd that Commodore get here?!. The tagging guidelines page isn't clear about this and people in general have no idea about how far you can really drive a 2WD if you're determined and skilled. Conversely, people in general have no idea how easy it is to get stuck in a 4WD if you are not skilled. Also, contrast tricked-out Toyota Landcruiser with Subaru Forester with 2WD rally car. These vehicles, ignoring driver skill, have vastly differing off-road capabilities. The 2WD rally car will go places the 4WD Forester won't. Clearly the Forester isn't a serious 4WD like the Landcruiser, but the rally car isn't 4WD at all. How to indicate that the Forester isn't suitable for a particular track? The 4wd_only tag lacks any of the expressiveness needed to solve the problem and the tagging guidelines don't address it either. -- Sam Couter | mailto:s...@couter.id.au OpenPGP fingerprint: A46B 9BB5 3148 7BEA 1F05 5BD5 8530 03AE DE89 C75C signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au

I guess a lot of other folk are in the same position. So here is my question to all of us who are still contributing. Rather than waiting, should we ask for Australia data contributed by decliners to be carefully removed en masse in the near future? I am happy for an area where I am more or less the sole continuing contributor to be used as a test. Being able to manually control the process that will happen in April automatically for single objects or small areas will make the process significantly more manageable.

-- View this message in context: http://gis.638310.n2.nabble.com/Re-Commune-de-Carnoules-83660-Importation-du-Bati-a-faire-avec-JOSM-Etait-V-ux-informations-question-tp7152160p7154060.html Sent from the France mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr

Re: [OSM-talk-fr] [OSM-talk] OSM @ FOSDEM?
I will be at FOSDEM as well. I can be at the stand for a couple of hours on Saturday and on Sunday. Not all the time, as I'd like to go and discover all the goodies a bit too. I just got a brand new Android Tablet on which I installed Vespucci and OsmAnd and I have some other devices which are useful for mapping (WM6 with NoniGPSPlot) I also have a portable with JOSM and I'd love to demonstrate some advanced possibilities of that program, or more basic ones as well, of course. If somebody is driving there from Leuven, I have my thumb up for sharing the trip. Otherwise I'll simply go by bus, even though it takes a long time that way.
