-a- when moving 2 postings manually from one folder to an other
one it takes about 40 sec.

 No, no noticable delay

In my case I've noticed a (subjective) decrease in speed of about 50%

Try checking your temp folders. The Bat! could create numerous
temporary files there and this delay could be caused by this. There
was an accident.

Re: Possible to Disable Security question ?

2002-01-14 Thread Anton I. Danilov

 Hi !

Using Beta 28 I created a new shortcut for marking
all messages read. The only unnecessary thing left
over is the box popping up asking Do you really want...

This is useless for me handling 30+ Folders.

Is it possible to shut the feature down ?

In a good program, especially such as a mail client, every notorious
question (simply put - every) should be carrying don't ask this
again ckeckbox. Look at OE, for example, they realize that, and they
are Microsoft!

By the way, OE interface looks much smoother and cleaner than The
Bat!'s.

two little things

2002-01-14 Thread Thomas Lieblang

Hello list,

as I cought up to beta28 (from 1.53t) I hoped to find some things
to be changed. Maybe it's be design, but maybe not ;-)

 - 1 - Strange/wrong(?) behaviour of copy/move msg dialoge

When doubleclicking a folder in the 'Copy/Move msg dialogbox' which
has one or more subfolders, this folder is selected and used for this
action. But normaly doubleclicking such a folder should expand the
 subfolder(s) - or not?

 - 2 - Autoreplied mails

Mails which were replied with a template from the filter aren't
marked as 'answered' (green arrow) in the messagelist.
My wish would be a little option in the filterdialog for adding this
mark. This would help me more than using the 'Open Reply' function
(which is very nice at all :-).

thx
Thomas

On 14 January 2002 at 04:51 Thomas wrote:

AS This is a tricky one to reproduce (for obvious reasons given in step
AS 1) ... but can anyone confirm it?

Yes. I reported it in the Connection Center bugs mail about a week or
two ago. Actually, it has been present ever since the ConCen made its
 debut.

Thank goodness it's a real bug :) (the beta-tester's cry) ...

AS 1. Send email (Ctrl-Enter), server isn't responding, press Abort,
AS message remains in Outbox as expected.

You can press Abort or Delete Task while the message is being sent. It
will have the same effect, only you have to be faster. ;-)

 msgid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This sort-of-works - I find that, in this sort of situation, Abort and
Delete Task tend not to do anything. (Hardly surprising when TB! is
trying to work out what's going on!)

AS 2. Try Send Mail From All (Alt-Shift-F2); message in Outbox _isn't_
AS sent and remains stuck there.

I suppose you get an error message Nothing to send, right?

Yes.

AS 3. To send it I have to double-click the message in the folder tree
AS and do Ctrl-Enter again.

You can also close and reopen TB.

Indeed, that does the trick too.

I agree, though; I hope that this sort of thing is coming up in

there are some gross inconsistencies with warning and information

Getting rid of this sort of inconsistency really requires someone to
spend a long time going through the program systematically testing
every control; it takes ages and is very boring ... but necessary.

OE looks and feels better because Microsoft has graphics artists and
user interface designers everywhere and _pours_ money into usability
testing. In addition, it controls the user interface standards so can
always deem what's right with everyone rushing to catch up.

Why so? There are GOOD programs, and there are BAD programs :-)

Getting rid of this sort of inconsistency really requires someone to
spend a long time going through the program systematically testing
every control; it takes ages and is very boring ... but necessary.

It takes much less time to project everything beforehand. Look at The
Bat! developers. They are fixing numerous bugs which came from their
projection mistaker. For example, there was a bug that message list
settings were automatically saved in main window and were not saved in
a separate window. If they'll invent some new message list somewhere -
there'll be bugs and bugs again. They'll have to check everything.
That's only a question of planning and projecting.

OE looks and feels better because Microsoft has graphics artists and
user interface designers everywhere and _pours_ money into usability
testing. In addition, it controls the user interface standards so can
always deem what's right with everyone rushing to catch up.

Of course. But The Bat!'s usability suffers. Look suffers. It could be
improved, and it should be improved. But it seems to me that
developers think about implementing different notepads, expression
calculations, they decided to develop yet another HTML control - a
good time waste, and I'll not be surprised when I'll see clock and mp3
player in TB. I'm dissappointed.

Mail list - F9 and Drive D: ?

2002-01-14 Thread Martin Schoch

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.54 Beta/28
  Serial Number 4B8FB535
under Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2
and would like to report a bug

  Quite strange thing:

In a Input Folder (there are sub-folders, too) - when I click on the
last mail in the list (sorted only by date, descending order) a
window pops up with the message that in drive D: the disk is
  missing.

And also command F9 doesn't work with this mail - same error
  message...

If I insert a CD in drive D: the mail is displayed - but F9 doesn't
  do anything...

I think this is a little bit strange...

Regards,
  Martin Schoch
