No. The only reason why I bought TB! was for it's quoting capabilities.
The rest is textmode, so no smilies, nothing. Sort of like Mutt for

After I bought it, IMAP became more and more of a problem. Now, beta/1

Don't think so... IMHO (and some users confirm) IMAP becomes usable,
not so quickly as we wish, but ...

CMG> I'd like to get the serious features tackled first before adding (what I
CMG> called) Christmas tree ornaments.
Hmm, I understand what you mean. So, try to get my point of view. IMAP
(and other serious features) has higher priority, but ... I'm just a
man, and sometimes it is so boring to debug and fix, and debug and
fix, and again debug and again fix... Sometimes I need to do something
else (something what I like not what I have to do) to have a rest and
to get new and recent ideas. If not - my productivity greatly
decreases. It is quite difficult for me to be serious all time.
Christmas features take no more than few hours but give energy for
weeks.

Funky message list pane and message pane refresh.

2004-07-02 Thread Charles M. Gerungan
Whenever new message arrive in an IMAP folder, the following happens:

1. Message pane blanks out while fetching the new headers (or whatever
you have your sync prefs set to). This could take seconds and is
irritating because you can't continue to read the message you were
reading.

2. The message list pane refreshes by defocusing the selected message
line, moving the entries down, pasting in the freshly synced messages,
putting the focus back on the message you're reading.

3. The message you were reading appears again so you can finally
continue to read.

Irritating...

I won't necessarily disagree with you, but if it hadn't been for me
tinkering with the code I did at work when I got bored, people
wouldn't have the ability to upload screenshots for error tracking,
seeing images of their counterparts in other states on the message
boards (i.e. the epidemiologist from NM knows what her counterpart
looks like in every other state), nor would they be able to share
images of prophylaxis and emergency response efforts.

All the original application called for was for me to create them a
message board that displayed newest messages on top. Now they have all
that I listed above, plus much more (a document repository, news flash
tickers, web resource link libraries etc). Everyone absolutely loves
it now and would hunt me down and beat me if I were to only give them
back the original application as asked for.

I did all that in my free time during my commutes to and from work.
There was no project manager, just me and a boring ride to and from
work.

Sometimes the benefits outweigh the costs.

Well, I tried B1 before realizing B7 was out. However, the initial
fetch in B1 is not slower after all, still about 2-6 seconds per
message. However, the second step of 2-6 seconds for the message to
display properly. This is continuing with B7

And the dispatcher works fine with B7!

Whenever there are glitches with synchronising a folder, it's good to

You forgot to add "IMHO". :) It is "the only usable one" for you. XP
look doesn't exist under this theme anyway, so you question doesn't
make so much sense rhetorical or not. It was quite fine for me not to
have XP look at all, better than to hove a broken one. Same logic as

Where do I click? Do I need an account? Is your opinion not trusted?
Are you not the one who can assign priority be it high or low?

I'm not being sarcastic, just tell me what you want me to do.

For what?
The fact that you're not a software developer. For putting your message

Thanks for confirming; it puts your message in the right
perspective.
Could have asked me directly.
Why it was already obvious.
As I wrote above: my perspective is the

Of course you are, you don't know what scope creep is.

Did you by any chance rename your thebat.exe? I mean, a
thebat_beta.exe wants a thebat_beta.lng as its language file.

Hello nednieuws!

They don't say anything about core or not core, it was me. And my
point is debatable, I am sure Allie, who uses IMAP a lot (solely?),
sees IMAP as a core feature.

Whatever can be considered "core" is highly a matter of taste. My
statement comes out of the history of TB; It began as a POP3 client;
IMAP was added much later (too late many think).

Kevin's (I think it was him) original point was that TB is broken in
core functionality and unstable. I don't think this is right. I can't
show up any statistics but I am quite sure that most users just work
with TB and don't encounter many problems. And surely not very often
do they find TB unstable and underdeveloped (the first being
objectively measurable, the second subjective opinion).

Nothing against honest bug reporting and discussion but lately the
reporting takes on more of a complaining manner - and not a very
constructive one, to my eyes.

Perhaps its just me, a little tired (in the physiological sense), a
bit too much involved, having read too much complaining for nearly
every piece of software I am interested in from TB and Agent through
QImage and Vuescan to Photoshop etc.

I have 25 licences of Adobe Photoshop (one is in the background now :)
and three for Vuescan. So that coves both ends of the spectrum. Have
you ever frequented the Adobe support forums? Nice forums, and noone
complains about scope creep. They discuss bug fixes of current or
sometimes neededfeatures. Of course, needed in that respect is dictated
much by a) the intended use of the software (which is pretty much fixed
and niche) and b) the feature set of the software which is defined for
that release. Now that is where scope creep comes in. You set your
project goals, finish them (which means bug-free, the Mac is a good OS
where its users freak out over bugs, hence the fact that CorelDRAW
never made it on the Mac) and not get distracted by Yet Another Feature
which broadens the scope of the project, hence scope creep. Set your
scope, stick to it, and move on.

Ed Hamrick handles his project the same way.
But we're digressing big time so I propose to leave it at this if
that's alright with you. E-mail is always welcomed should you like to
discuss any further.

again (talking about auth and md5 in the seperate menu).

Never intimated you were. I was only trying to clear up what I
perceived as a misperception about 9Val and his comment concerning his

At any rate this is all OT. I've CC'd TBOT to continue or we can PM

compress ADB files?

2004-07-02 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

by adding and removing some pictures to the address book for this nice new
function since Beta6 I noticed that the address book files are getting
bigger and bigger. Is it possible that old and deleted data (pictures,
whole addresses etc) don't get purged out of the file?

What about a routine which compresses the address book files?

Regards,
Martin
