Thanks for the offer, but it is really a moot point now. I have
completely started over with a new database and no residuals from the
last install. All I did was re-import my address book from Outlook.
I have been running TB and leaving my mail on the server then
downloading/deleting with Outlook just to be safe.

TB seems to be functioning normally now, but it did before as well.
Somewhere along the line of installing new release versions,
something must have corrupted the database and was not repairable. I
will monitor this install, make very few changes and document the
ones that I do, to see if it goes back to the "snail" mode it was in.

If it goes south again, I certainly may take you up on your offer
to assist. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond and
offer assistance.

Slow Mail Processing

2008-02-23 Thread Kyle Goodnight
Hello BatGroup,

I had previously reported that I had thought I had found my slow mail
processing issue by removing a couple of add-in's that appeared to
impact mail processing speed. For a short while mail processing
returned to normal but quickly returned to the original state of making
reading mail too slow (6-10 seconds from one msg to be able to select
the next).

I removed TB, cleaned the registry and reinstalled TB. Sadly, the
same slow mail processing returned. I had preserved my previous mail
database. I then un-installed TB including all data and address
books, cleaned the registry again.

I reinstalled TB using the msi from 4011 ( the latest msi I had) then
applied the exe from 40145. As of right now, everything seems to be
back to normal. Time will tell if it is fixed permanently.

Is there a determent to updating from just replacing the exe files
and not using the msi?? What is done in the msi installs that is not
included by just replacing the exe file?

All the system cleaning I did did not improve TB performance (cleanup
need to be done anyway).

So the problem appears to have been with the data base but I am not
totally sure that was the only issue or what the problem was. :'(

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. I hate not knowing what
fixed my problem.

Slow Mail Processing

2008-02-19 Thread Kyle Goodnight

Hi BatGroup,

I think I have resolved the slow mail issue, at least it appears so. When
cleaning up TB trying to
determine why mail processing was so slow, I had had deleted two add-in's
previously
(MyMacros,Shell) but somehow they did not get removed. Going through the
Options/Preferences
settings one last time, I noted that the two add-in's were back. So I deleted
them again, restarted
TB and checked to make sure they were gone..they were. Checking mail, normal
reading speed had
returned, although receiving still appears slower that other clients
(Outlook,Thunderbird,Eudora, etc). I'm not sure which of
the two add-in's would be impacting mail processing so negatively but it
appears one or both were
the reason mail was so slow.

I have the MsgCenter visible during receiving and will test to see if having
inactive will speed up the process. What other options impacts receiving and
posting mail to the
folders and subsequent reading??

I think I can put this one away now...:'(

Thanks for all the suggestions and help from everyone who responded...

Slow Mail Processing

Hi BatGroup,

Well, I just do not know what else to do. I have run Maintenance on all of
TheBat mail folders, Defraged my
drives, Run chkdsk on all drives, Defragged and padded the MFT, and still no
joy. Downloading the mail takes
too long, once mail is processed, reading each message takes between 6-10
seconds from

If that does not work, then deep six for me.

RE: Re[3]: Moving Emails Issue

2008-02-18 Thread Kyle Goodnight
I have already been through the Maint center and ran it on all the folders. It
did not seem to make a difference. I am going to take a look at XP from a
systems view (MFT,Chkdsk, etc) to see if there is something up there. If not, I
am truly at a loss as to why TB is so slow processing the mail. I will also
delete any filters and see if that makes a difference.
The fact that other mailers work fine and at light speed(fast) when reading the
mail, points to something amiss with TB.
Thanks for the suggestions, if you think of anything else, please let me know.
 Any and all appreciated.

Click "Select All"
Select "Check ...", "Purge ..." , "Compres ..."

RE: Moving Emails Issue

2008-02-17 Thread Kyle Goodnight
I as well, but there lies the challenge. I will find it, one way or another.
It has to be some configuration issue or something I have set inadvertently
(although I would expect to be able to find a setting that would impact
receiving mail. It has to be Filters, in line options, or something) and I did
not realize the impact at the time while learning the functionality of the
program.

If no joy soon, I will be removing the program, cleaning the registry, and
starting over with a clean install, implementing changes in a documented
controlled posture unless you have a suggestion for a better approach.

I have been watching your responses to issues posted to the beta group and like
the verbiage and tact you use which, IMHO, is that of a seasoned professional.
Just the facts...pure and simple.. Appreciate your help and suggestions.

The mail I had to switch just to be able to answer this. This is really weird
as everything else (apps) seems to be working normally. I even upped the
priority of TB just to see if it made a difference and it did not. I
compressed the mail folders, no improvement. I rebooted after stopping all
other
Pgms (msconfig), no difference. Something is impacting the processing and I
just do not see what it is as yet. I am running a dual core Intel 3.1 ghz with
2gb mem so I don’t think it is hardware. I have also turned off Bitdefender
virus pgm but no difference there either.

The only thing I can think of to do is to go back version by version and see if
I can see just where this started but that may not work if it is an alternation
that would not be impacted by reversion. Any ideas???

Yes it does. I can select/Drag/Drop and it moves very slow, same with
MoveToFolder. I am at a loss to
determine what is going on. I brought up Outlook 2007, processed some incoming

Logging in to the site is not the problem, I can do that. The problem is you
cannot create a new account. I
have tried several times. I have keyed in my account info, clicked "submit" and
it goes into lala land and
never returns. Then you can try logging in to the account with the info just
submitted and am told account
does not exist. Log back on the the site and try to create the same logon data
you just used and you do get a message that the
user Id is already in use. So, possibility the new account info is getting
recorded but not updated properly
so that a photo can be uploaded. Something is rotten somewhere. :-/

I agree, This feature should be supported and maintained by RIT so that it will
work properly. It is a nice
feature.

Hi Batties,

I have been trying to figure out how to display my received email in a threaded

For example, I send a message to the bat group and receive several responses.
Now, my original message is pushed down and the responders reply is on top of
mine and so on. Is there a way to have my original message show as the top
level and all responders show up under my original post?

IMHO, it would make reading threaded messages much more logical and easier to
follow.

Ok, sounds like this is going exactly where I hoped it would not. I was
reluctant to make the comments and probably should have kept my mouth shut. I
did not intend to start a flame thread on this topic. I was simply trying to
get a handle on the best approach to take, not start a word war. Sure things
have changed, but only in the tools available to do the same thing. Logic is
logic, technique is technique no matter what you want to call it.

Eveyone has their own way of doing things, some work better than others and
some not at all. Whatever RIT wants to do with the program is their business
and theirs alone.

Sorry to muddy the water on this, I will keep quite.

I have paid my dues and know a bit about how successful program development
works.

I understand the risks of using a development system, but as I stated before,
even with a deveopment effort, there has
to be structure to deveopment or you end up shooting yourself in the foot too
many times (been there, done that). My
point here is that to effectivey assist in deveopment, there needs(has to be) a
base line of stability (regression
style never works well) so that testers can effectively test new code paths. If
the base changes with each feature
inclusion, where is the base for metrics?

Structure breeds structure. Take Open Source Programming as an example. With
each OS project, there is a base line that
everyone has to respect, deveopment is modular and adaptable. Where would linux
be now if with every update the kernel was not
kept static?

Again, I am simply trying to understand the methodology of development and try
to be a positive contributor to the
deveopment. Right now, I can't see how to help as I don't know from one
release to the next if the things that worked
will still be working so that i can relate stability to instability.

The core users here are positive, friendly and seem to know the product well.
What say you fellows? Am I way off base
here? Again, these comments are intended to be positive and constructive, I
mean no harm and only wish to be of
assistance.

What is Happening??

2008-02-01 Thread Kyle Goodnight

Hi Beta Group,
I mean no disrespect, malace, or criticisim what so ever, just to set the tone.
I am just having a terrible time trying to figure out how to go about checking
the pogram for functionality as each version is released.

As each of these new versions are released, something that worked previously
now doesn't. As new features are implemented, other stable features either go
away or no longer work. I had hoped to help with the debug testing but so far,
I have not been able to get a grasp on where/how/what or when to check.

Is the purpose of the beta group to simply tell the authors what they have
broken that worked before, or is the intent to effectively sectionaly test the
product and provide feed back on results?

In order to progressively test a product, a base line of functionality has to
be established with a completely functional stable product. Then as each each
feature is implemented, it's fuctionality is tested. If it breaks a stable
function, that is fixed before anything else is implemented in order to update
a stable base.

If the development is distributed to groups or individuals, the remote team
must adhear to the base line product, not changing any base line code that
would impact some other group with their update.

How is TB being developed? Is it a central staff, distrbuted or some other
structure??

I like the functionaly(intended) behind TB but it is very difficult to be
objective when one has no idea what is coming done the pike. Is there a
priority hit list that the authors use to make changes or is it totally at
their discression?

Agan, It is not my intent to be insulting or say I can do it better. I am just
trying to determine if I should continue using TB on a daily basis as my client
or move to something more stable and watch for a notice that TB has has been
released. I understand what an Alpha is and it's intended purpose but the
releases really confuse me when trying to figure out development structure.

Filters Question

2008-01-26 Thread Kyle Goodnight

Hi Beta Group,
When processing incoming mail, how much of a processing delay does a filter
have as far as getting mail from the ISP? Is the process post receiving or
during? What I am trying to determine is, if getting the mail from the ISP
would be faster if I did not filter the incoming mail real time but process
from another group after mail is brought in from the ISP.

"%Set" Commands for Editor

2008-01-23 Thread Kyle Goodnight
I am using "%seteditor="1" in the address book for my entry for TB beta group
(info provided by a user). Since MicroEd has problems with spaces, I want to
set it to Windows Editor. I assumed the index order was according to the
"message format" in Options but does not appear that is correct. Where may I
find reference on the options for "%set". Does not seem to be a help reference
or on "silverstone" as well?

Questions on receiving mail

2008-01-21 Thread Kyle Goodnight
1. When downloading messages from my ISP, The msgs are downloaded, imported,
then msgs are deleted. As msgs are being deleted, the msg count increases in
the appropriate inbox folder. This process can take several minutes per mail
box. Seems it should be faster to get mail. What impacts the inbound mail with
respect to speed of processing? (filters, ect?)

2. When reading the mail after a download session and HTML links resolved and
approved, switching from one message to another in the selected inbox folder
seems to take 5-6 seconds before next msg can be selected. TB seems to be
inhibited during this process then screen will flick and next msg can be read.
Is this normal??

3. What is RTV and PTV. Dont see any reference to the letters in the help file.

SpellCheck Not working for me?

2008-01-14 Thread Kyle Goodnight
I have been trying to get spellcheck to work on newly created emails but
nothing seems to work. I
have Office 2007 installed and from what I have been able to glean from group
talk, the dictionary
from Office is being used. However, no amount of "fiddling" brings no
joy for spellcheck. My
deliberat mis spelled words are simply ignored. I have turned on/off the
options in the Spell
Checker tool bar and nothing seems to make any difference. Can someone shed
some light on what may
be wrong here. Is there something I have to invoke to get spell check to work??

Just Joined - Have question on HTML processing

2008-01-04 Thread Kyle Goodnight

Hi BatGroup,
Just joined and am getting reaquainted with The Bat. I purchaed the program
some time ago and after a while, put it away due to HTML issues. Anyway the 4.0
release is really exciting and sees to be on the right track (for me).

In looking at the 4006 release, I have an issue viewing HTML. When receiving a
new msg that is HTML viewable, I allow the references to view the msg as HTML,
they are accepted but the msg is not viewable as HTML until I shut down and
restart Bat. After restart, the just processed msg seems to be completely HTML
viewable. Is this a feature or some setting I have missed?? Funny thing is,
not all msgs react this way, some are immediately viewable in HTML then others;
only after restart. I have been looking for some common indicator but so far
have seen nothing that would alert me to why...
Any clues??? :'(
