DC one of those, you, is using a version of windows which I believe is
DC specifically oriented to not western alphabets.

DC Jernej Simončič renders correctly on vista, but looks like the

Jernej's surname does render here beautifully in the preview pane.
However, the quoted material in my reply shows only boxes. I do have the
Open Type version of Estrangelo Edessa on my system, but it is not
installed.

I don't understand how EEdessa could be related to the problem as it
is not an alphabetic font. It only consists of numbers and some
numerically-related symbols, so boxes would be shown where no values
were designed. Check out the character map in charmap.exe or download
The Font Thing where you can see exactly the values contained in the
particular font.

The Font Thing is a great little program which is still offered by the
author and is free of charge. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~scef/tft.html

I've just changed the font for quoted material in TB! to Times New
Roman (from Trebuchet) and Jernej's name is now displayed properly.

I guess the answer to the problem should be that a complete font, such
as Arial or Times New Roman, should be used whenever international
characters are likely to be encountered.

Re-installed TB!

2008-02-20 Thread Maggie Meister
Hello Tbbetaophiles,

Following MAU's directions exactly given last Sunday on
re-installing TB! solved most of the problems.

For about 30 seconds (hyperbole here) the program was working
beautifully and the spell checkers were all wonderful. The toolbars
looked very nice, the whole program has a clean and fresh look.

THEN, I tried upping from the distributed msi to the latest build
and the whole thing fell apart.

I know this is not descriptive, but the program wouldn't even load,
and immediately I repeated the stripping/reinstalling and had it
  all together again.

Could there be something wrong in the rar files that are being sent
through? I did have trouble opening Maxim's file in Opera and so
was using Firefox to do it - but clearly something is amiss there.

Everyone seems to have such a variety of messes going on that I
wonder if all the incremental upticks of these files aren't
corrupting each other? Maybe we can't just install these over the
old, as was the usual, save your breath, save your life?

A case of :batbeer: to you, Miguel, for helping take the anxiety
  out of this process. Suave!

Spell Check Icon

2008-02-20 Thread Maggie Meister
Hello Tbbeta,

I'm told that the red checkmark in this icon is an old MS
  style from the early days.

The logic of it is nice: the ABC meaning Spell, and the checkmark
  meaning Check.

But what is needed now is a button that only shows the checkmark
when speller is ON. Should a wish be developed on this?

Also, what would be helpful is when the spell check is on or off to
have that information appear in the Tool-tips with mouse hover. Now,
the tool-tips give the same message Automatic Spell Checking when
the mouse is over the button regardless of whether on or off.

I have discovered that this behavior is different depending on which mode is
chosen in the Options|Preferences|Viewer/Editor. What I was reporting on

What I have now found is if you choose Plain Text (Windows) or switch among the
editor styles, then ALL the words are red-underlined.

Also, the spell checker must be reactivated every time.

I have not seen such ridiculous behavior in TB! and that is since 1.62r. I'm

No, sorry to not be clear. The three programs never worked with TB!

One of the programs is a word processor: www.atlantiswordprocessor.com
which I have used for years. You can get it right from their site.

The other two programs are not available for download, but I have the
disks. One is Kepler7 from Cosmic Patterns Software. I can send you

R As I haven't got any programs that use simple mapi to address
R messages (not that I'm aware of anyway) I cannot check this myself.
R Any takers?

Two programs:

I have a program that gives an error message saying there's no mapi
installed. I had complained years ago about this but no one knew how
to address my problem. The error message reads:

-- Solar Fire ---
Windows report that you do not have a MAPI enabled email program. The
email functions in Solar Fire will probably fail to work.
--- OK ---

Another is the word processor Atlantis
http://www.atlantiswordprocessor.com/en/. When I try to email a
document, it brings up TB's window but no message. The program goes
into a white screen program not responding configuration now. I did
work briefly at some point, but is not now working.

Other users of these programs who use Outlook and mail programs like
Eudora report no problems. When I've reported to the developers they
say that TB! is non-standard.
