Another useful tip... make a copy of thebat.exe in your TB! folder
before upgrading, e.g. thebat-3.5.11.exe. I usually keep a few
different versions there.

Threading quirk

Yes, I found out the hard way too. It often happens after my PC

Could same fix apply to the preview pane? Currently, message keeps

That may be the case... I'm simply asking for clarity. However,
testing a nightly build (or otherwise) in order help with a specific
problem should not lead to unofficial announcements and confusion over
the current beta. Unless specifically asked to test an alternative
version, I would have thought that we (beta testers) should stick to
the version identified in every message footer; Current beta is 3.5

Memory usage

2005-05-10 Thread Martin Webster on tbbeta
Hello tbbeta,

This morning my server sent an unusually large log file (30,000 lines
~ 2.6M) causing TB! to use 370M memory/VM. After switching to another
folder memory usage stays at this level and VM continues to grow.
Memory isn't freed after deleting/purging the message. The only
solution is restarting TB!

I exported the message and repeated again with IMAP and local folder;
same result.

Surely TB! should handle this better?

Do you use syncronisation? For me, I get best results with no

this includes attachments < 10kB. However, the server is on my

I'm sure this was resolved in an earlier beta or RC... I haven't
seen it for some time. Perhaps you need to clear the cache and start

Check that you don't have a new folder called "Program Files" in your
TB! folder... if you told WinRAR to extract in C:\Program Files\The Bat!
it will have added the full path so you need to extract to your root
folder instead. HTH.

I don't think it's there yet... but IMAP is really good for me. Better
than any other product I've tried (which is probably every
IMAP-capable client out there.) Of course, my good fortune isn't much
use to you. However, I think we could try to better understand the
circumstances that TB! behaves well or otherwise.

A while ago (3.0.1.33 through 3.0.2.5) we compiled some information in
a spreadsheet on different IMAP configurations. Would it be useful if
we resurrect this? For instance, I use TB! on a 100 Mb/s connection
and do all my filtering server-side. Whereas you use some client-side
filtering and may have a completely different network set-up.

BTW, I thought you were going to watch a movie. :-)

For clarity, that is "Save Viewmode to..." and "New Viewmode..." It's
still present in 1.0.9.19. Moreover, menu items, tool bar buttons etc.
no longer work after this AV... I have to close (using x only) and

You presuppose there's a bug that's causing your problem. Given that
the problem is present from 3.0.1.33 through 3.0.9.17 it may well be
something else in your configuration.

I still reckon you're more likely to get help on TBUDL since your

Drag and drop not working correctly

Hello tbbeta,

I can no longer drag and drop a message from the message list to the
account tree if the destination folder isn't visible, i.e. off the
bottom of the screen. Beforehand the account tree would scroll as you
moved the message toward the bottom of the screen.

Things work correctly if you view the bottom of the tree and want to
drop a message into a folder at the top.

Can anyone confirm?

I also note that there isn't a scroll down button on the account tree.

For some it does... for some it don't. :-) For me, I no longer require

Pretty much how I'm set-up. The only difference is that I don't use

Some more interface and IMAP observations

2005-04-12 Thread Martin Webster on tbbeta
Hello tbbeta,

I only started using the latest beta in earnest a week or so ago and
have made the following observations (some trivial):

1. Line spacing in the message list in incorrect (compressed) when
starting TB!. Opening and closing Preferences puts thing right.

2. When minimised to the System Tray TB! requires two-clicks to come
to the foreground.

3. There's no "Manage IMAP Folders" option in the folder tree context
menu. :-(

4. The Verify OpenPGP Signature icon, attachments icon etc. (message
viewer) is shown on a white background. Move the mouse over the icon
and the theme is correctly displayed. See screen shot (Capture1.png.)

5. The IMAP Fine-Tune display has problems: see screen shot
(Capture2.png.)

6. When new messages arrive (IMAP) the message counts are correct but
folders containing new messages are not highlighted with bold text
until another folder is selected.

7. If you drag a message to another folder the folder tree text
temporarily turns black. Only affects folders with colour group
applied.

8. Scroll bar behavior is erratic. For instance, the bar will not move
to the bottom when using the mouse wheel albeit all messages/folders
are displayed. Conversely, dragging the bar down results in a
partially empty pane.

9. If IMAP is set to disconnect after n seconds TB! fails to reconnect
if another message is selected from the same folder and isn't cached
locally. Switching to any folder re-establishes a connection.

10. Dragging and dropping messages (IMAP) can sometimes corrupt the
mailbox. TB! just shows an empty folder whereas Thunderbird reports an
Internal Error. The only solution is to delete the mailbox file. I
have retained a sample copy of a corrupt mailbox file.

11. Using the Delete key to delete messages sometimes causes an AV at
0040451E read of address 4C0A9E88.

That's all for the moment... apologies if some of these have already
been reported.

However, I must add that IMAP support is good and on par with
Thunderbird on a fast (LAN) connection and much quicker than KMail
(running on SUSE 9.1 and Windows XP/Cygwin.) Thanks 9Val et al.

Is "When browsing messages, retrieve only message text" checked in
Account Properties? If it is, it's quite normal to see zero-byte
files. To retrieve, simply double-click the attachment icon.

That's why I suggested the current icon... no loss of "screen real

that's how you define additional tabs: All, Unread, Virtual, Lists

Even stranger behaviour... see attached image. Header is displayed
twice!

That was it... of sorts. Although I had changed this setting a restart
was required to get the desired effect. However, things went awry
while testing this out. When I changed two of my custom headers TB!
confused both of them. For example, I selected X-Folder and
X-Spam-Status was displayed and visa versa.

Custom headers and preview pane

2005-04-10 Thread Martin Webster on tbbeta
Hello tbbeta,

If you want to display a custom header in the the preview pane (e.g.
X-Spam-Status) you first create an entry under Preferences; Messages;
Message Headers. However, the new header isn't available without a
restart. Can anyone confirm?

Also, I note that the header area is of fixed size, i.e. only three
headers are viable at any one time. Is this intentional?

No, I think things have gone awry. Try full-height preview pane...

I use UW-IMAP with mbx... That is, all messages are stored in a single
file, which is seen by the client as a selectable folder containing
messages. Physical folders that contain these files should be
non-selectable.

For instance, the default setting on my system (ClarkConnect 2.2) is as
follows:

/var/mail/user-id
  Inbox

/home/user-id/
  .mailboxlist
  /home/user-id/mail/
Sent
Drafts
Outbox
Trash

mail/ should non-selectable. Moreover, you cannot see this folder using
Squirrelmail (albeit there may be an option to view these folders) and
in Thunderbird the folder is visible (grey) but non-selectable.

G> Try setting the Root folder in IMAP options to
G> either INBOX or INBOX/ or INBOX. see what happens..

This is set to /home/user-id/ but it makes little difference either way.

One thing I have noticed is that TB! sometimes takes an inordinate
amount of time to refresh the folder list and after this is done _all_
folders are grey with the exception of Inbox, (Sent and Outbox*.) They
only return to black after a restart or if I Abort all in the CC.
However, as soon as another folder is selected all folders not processed
return to grey.

Also, TB! sometimes seems to get bogged down executing a command (e.g.
scanning a folder) with loads of other commands queued up... then
it's time for a restart (or frequent use of Abort all.)

Overall the latest build is a very good IMAP experience. However, I do
use Procmail for filtering now.

*These are local folders. I use a local Sent Mail folder and then
automatically copy messages to the server's Sent folder.
