Re: SOT: E-mailaholics
Angel, Pretty simple actually. Edit the properties for your folder for TBUDL messages. Click the "Identity" tab, put: "E-mailaholics International" in the Organisation field. If you want everyone in the the world to know, then edit the account properties and put it in the Organisation field there. This means that any message you send from that account will announce your EMness (unless you later override it with a folder defined Organisation.) Solution to %DATE and %TIME macro problem.
Hi all, Some have asked what regular expressions may be used for and I have found a practical use for it. Alexander helped me with actually constructing the regular expression and macros while I doodled, rearranged things, experimented with the output and came up with the final template entry. THE HISTORY: I've noted that the original message dates that are inserted in reply templates using the %ODATE and %OTIME macros are the RFC headers message creation date and time corrected to the recipients local time. The original sender will therefore not see in the reply, the date and time he sent the message, in his time zone. This can easily create confusion especially since the GMT isn't inserted to indicate the 'conversion'. The working solution that I've been 'tolerating' is to place my GMT of -5 in all reply templates. I still wanted to have the original senders date and time with his/her time zone indicated. This is the standard and correct way of doing it IMHO. THE WORKAROUND: I've noted that the original message date and time is always stated in it's own line in the RFC headers with the following format: Date: Day, Date and year, Time (24 hr format), GMT with occasional variations at the end If I could extract that information using a regexp and place it in my reply template it would provide a solution for me. The REGULAR EXPRESSION (brace yourself folks): (?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*)) Alex says that it was simple to construct. I guess that's after you *learn* how to do it. :) THE TEMPLATE CONSTRUCT: %SETPATTREGEXP="(?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))" This tells the template the regexp to use. "%REGEXPMATCH="%HEADERS" These are macros used recursively, instructing that the RFC Headers should be checked for matches for the set regular expression and the result inserted where the macro is placed in the template THE FINAL RESULT: %SETPATTREGEXP="(?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))"%REGEXPMATCH="%HEADERS" We'll designate that long line of text CORRECTEDDATE macro for clarity. My reply template for this list now reads: On CORRECTEDDATE macro, %FROMNAME wrote: It's a long line of text but the end result is great. It has worked flawlessly for me so far after checking it with messages from many senders who use various e-mail clients. Hope that helps. -- Ali Martin | Using The Bat! v1.38e mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] | Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 6) [ IBM: In Being Mended ] -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] --

Multiple Accounts, Multiple The Bat but one folder...
Hi all, let`s try to explain what I need... I`ll have little LAN (4/5 PC with HUB) in my company: here we have 3 internet mailbox, info, sales, and boss (not me... ;-) ). In small companies, the same person can reply to mail sent to info@ or sales@, and more persons can reply using these accounts. If a person replies to a mail, all the others must know that this is done, and what is replied. But i can`t localize a mailbox on a single PC: when the boss wants to reply to a mail sent to info@, he won`t stand up, go in an other room and use an other pc... and so all others employees Now I want that is one pc (the boss` pc) to connect to internet and retrieve mail for all accounts. After, all the others PCs can access to a folder located on boss` PC and see the whole mailbox. It is possible with actual TheBat features? It`s planned for tb2? tnx to all! -- Ciao! Some things about 1.38
Hi there, can someone confirm that checking pgp signatures using pgp 6.0.2 (business edition, german version) still doesn't work? (Not to speak about that automatic decrypting.) I must say, I'd really like to be able to check signatures again one day. Why is the following: Every time a new version of The Bat! comes out, there's also a new language file. Every time I noticed that the newest feature additions to The Bat! are not translated in that new language file. That's not very nice, as those new features are sometimes the ones I'd most require a translation to understand. In version 1.38, the new menue entries Message/Specials/Reply ... are not translated to german. Password Truncation on Bat! install, ver 1.36
I know I'm a little behind the times as far as version numbers go, but this problem has been pretty consistent in every version I've used, so I bet it hasn't been fixed yet. My mail system at work *requires* a percent sign, %, in my password. This cannot be changed. Whenever I upgrade or reinstall the Bat, the percent sign and the characters that follow it are removed. This is a serious annoyance: it sometimes takes me a while to notice that my mail is not being checked, especially if, as is usual, I reinstalled the Bat after a windows crash, when stress distracts me from remembering the password bug. I hope the Bat-programming folks will take note and do away with this "feature." Thanks, Tony -- Tony AT Mendina "And why do you need to know everything?" Re: Solution to %DATE and %TIME macro problem.
Hi there! I haven't understood a word g, but I can copy and paste this. However, this cries for user-definable marcroes (or variables), as stated in a recent thread. That was me who cried about it "in the recent thread", and NOW you all are able to see why... It was like that: I played a bit with these regexps, then Allie suggested to make this "little" macro, at which point it became obvious to me that we desperately need the user-definable macros... BTW, I just glanced through Allie's message and found, that he had omitted a bit of info... There exists another possibility of using the suggested regular expression. That is, leave the %SETPATTREGEXP macro as stated above, then erase the %REGEXPMATCH; instead, write the following in your template: %REGEXPBLINDMATCH="%HEADERS" subpattern0: %SUBPATT="0" subpattern1: %SUBPATT="1" subpattern2: %SUBPATT="2" subpattern3: %SUBPATT="3" subpattern4: %SUBPATT="4" (for the clarification of what it does, please look through the help file: I don't feel like describing it here:-))) The output from this (when the template is used) looks like: subpattern0: Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 10:42:14 +1000 subpattern1: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 10:42:14 +1000 subpattern2: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 subpattern3: 10:42:14 subpattern4: +1000 (I used an elderly message from my own archives for this example). So in your template you are now able to write something like: On %SUBPATT="2", when it was %SUBPATT="3" on your local clock -- and you live in timezone GMT%SUBPATT="4" --- you wrote me: Which would result in the following string inserted into your message: On Tue, 9 Mar 1999, when it was 10:42:14 on your local clock - - and you live in timezone GMT+1000 -- you wrote me: Isn't it cool??? Hallo Ali, On Mon, 13 Dec 1999 23:57:43 -0500GMT, which was Tuesday, December 14, 1999, 12:57:43 PM (GMT+0800) my local time, Ali Martin wrote: AM [] AM As you can see in my greeting, it works nicely. Check the RFC AM Headers for your message and see. :) Wow, it works! even I don't know how it work :-). AM Alexander thinks it's a piece of cake. :))) As a matter of fact, I would like a macro in addition to the %ODate and %OTime macros we have. So it can be chosen whether we want the "real" additional date/time of the sender, or the date/date after "conversion" into our time zone. On a list like this, the "real" time makes more sense. In a business environment, the lcoal time seems to be the preferred one. Re: I'm sorry for that!
Oh, cool -- it seems that the huge load of junk, I accidentally sent, didn't reach the groups. What a relief :-). It's probably been denied by server as it used my different email address in From:. Preliminary Interview questions for RIT Labs
Hello users, Below is the rough draft for the interview I will be holding with the RIT Labs people. If you can think of any questions you'd like answered, then please send them to me at: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=Interview Please ensure that you do *not* send your inputs to the list. Check the TO field before sending. Also, please try not to submit wish list questions. I've asked what wish list items are going to be addressed in the interview, and including them in the interview would make it way too unwieldy. Well, here are the questions: - Why did you decide to write an e-mail client package? - Did you base it from another e-mail client package? - Why did you choose the name "The Bat!"? - How is RIT Labs structured? Who works there? Is it an office type setting or do you do most of the work from home? - Did you imagine that TB would be this successful? Now the questions everyone has been waiting for... Everything below this paragraph concerns version 2.0. - Are there many changes to the GUI? If so, do you have a couple of screenshots for us to see? - v2.0 is rumored to have been built from the ground up (not from version 1.x), is this true? - Will v2.0 be backwards compatible? Meaning if someone has problems with it, can they reinstall v1.x and still have all of their messages, filters, and acccounts accessible? - When will the beta be released? - Is there a planned port to Linux? Will you charge for it? - v2.0 is rumored to support 3rd party plugins. Is this true? How will they be implemented (.dll or scripted etc.) - How extensive will the plugin support be? Meaning, can new menu items, macros, functions etc. be added? - Are there any changes to the filtering subsystem? For example, grouping of like filters, copying filters between accounts etc. - Are there any changes to the address book? i.e. Different address book support for different accounts. - Will v2.0 support non-fixed width fonts? - Will v2.0 support customizable kludges? i.e. X- like X-Website: http://www.pcwize.com - v2.0 is rumored to allow us to redefine shortcut keys. Is this true? Can we create new shortcut key combinations? - Will we be able to customize our toolbar? Will it allow us to add new buttons, or can we only use the buttons/functions already in place? - There is a rumor floating around that TB will include a usenet news reader. Is this true? If so, why have you decided to do this? How much overhead (bloat) will this add. - Version 2.0 is rumored to support scripting. Can you give us an example of a short script? - Will we be able to use scripting in templates to create things like our own macros? Meaning, can we call scripts (like the %include macro), or must they be inlined in every template we want to use them in? - How extensive is the scripting? Can we call other programs to perform functions. For example (I'm just making this up), suppose we want to launch our browser whenever a message includes a URL. I know the filters currently support this (sort of) in that you can call an external program on the actions tab, but can we pass different types of variables (or is that what the %regexp macro stuff is for?) - Will the scripting support error control? For example, will it address the long standing bug of not checking an address book group to see if an address actually exists before performing the "remove address book entry" function on the actions tab in filters? - Will version 2.0 fully support HTML both in sending, and viewing href'd images? How will you handle the issue of unscrupulous web site developers stealing our e-mail addresses when TB gets the href'd image? i.e. http://www.eff.org/pub/Privacy/Profiling/19991202_joint_profiling_pressrel.html - Will v2.0 support hooks for virus scanning attachments to messages? - Will v2.0 fully support MAPI? - How big (filesize) do you expect v2.0 to be? - How much do you expect v2.0 to cost? How much will the upgrade from v1.x cost? - How many of the items on the wish list are going to be addressed in v2.0 that I didn't cover above? One of the main reasons that I have spent so much time and effort in supporting you guys is that you really listen to what your users have to say. I think that I speak for the rest of the TB community when I say that as long as you continue to support us, we will support you in every way we can!
