T Hello, I am trying to figure out how to display pictures in HTML view.
T The pictures are show up as gif attachments but when I click on

TB doesn't download images off the web. Unless the pictures are
included inline, they will not be displayed by TB. You can double
click on the HTML attachment to view the message with your default
web-browser.

TB's behaviour is desirable for an e-mail client. I won't explore the
full reasons here, I suggest you check the archives and/or the FAQ.

Forget my previous post, I was wrong.

You answered his question, it's the design; of course this will not
change (should not). It has nothing to do with the engine.

However, under these circumstances, I am not at all sure whether he

Honestly I found this a little tough to configure. A very steep learning curve.

I likes AVGMcafee (with TB) because they do not check for Viruses while
downloading (if TB is configured to keep attachments in the body).

TB will not allow me to open a file with multiple secondary names forcing me to
save it. Which is when the Av programme does its work.

So downloads of mail can be done w/o manual assistance and I have
adequate protection.

I saved the attachment by hand - since my version of F-Secure cannot
scan e-mails directly - and scanned it by hand with the newest
definitions (actually two days old but including BadTrans). Neither
Frisk's nor AVG's engine detected it. But since I am clever, I saw the
two file extensions ...

BTW, I still think it is easier to spot dangerous files if the file
extension is not shown under Windows. Looks quite funning getting a
file which suddenly shows one. Just context click it and you'll see
the correct one. On computers that do show the extension by default it
is easy to overlook the first one.

Thomas That's what PC-Cillin did do.

  Well, that's why I'm asking. As a PC-cillin user I have
been bombarded recently by 40-50 msgs w infected
attachments. I rcvd no notification from PC-cillin. OTOH,

I'm now testing a filter that should move certain msgs to

Unable to access...

2001-12-03 Thread Micki Krieger

A search of the archives did not reveal an answer to my dilemma. About
a year ago I tried The Bat and while I liked it, decided that
MSIE was better suited for my needs. I can't remember how I uninstalled
it except I did NOT touch any registry settings (not brave enough) and
the uninstall went well with two exceptions.

The first was that for a time I was unable to open certain email
attachments. A search of this list's wonderful archives gave the fix
that remedied the problem.

The second problem is making me nuts. I often use www.ebates.com, a
site which provides a small cash rebate on any purchases from
participating business. This time of year the rebates add up to a nice
tidy sum. Since uninstalling The Bat I get the dread URL not found
page anytime I try to access www.ebates.com from my desktop PC. I'm
certain The Bat uninstall was the culprit because it happened for the
first time immediately after the uninstall AND I was able to access the
site from my laptop (which, with the exception of The Bat was a
perfect clone of my desktop configuration). Unfortunately, the laptop
just departed for that great computer graveyard in the sky (not to be
replaced for awhile) and I'm not happy thinking of all those little
pennies slipping through my fingers.

I know this problem is pretty weird but I would be such a happy camper
if someone can suggest a fix. The support team at www.ebates.com has
been unable to provide a solution. Thanks for taking the time to
respond. Micki

D The address book entries were created by a filter.

In my experience TB-filters don't create duplicate entries in the
address book.
The only reason TB would do such a thing is when people use different
names with the same address or different addresses with the same name.
TB checks whether the name/address combination is unique and adds
those combinations to the AB.

Removing entries with the same address should be done manually, but it
can be done fairly easy.

Open the address book
Choose: View = Sort by = E-mail address
Now you see duplicate e-mail addresses right away and you can delete
them.

Well, with 11,000 entries this is a pretty big manual project. I imported
my sales mailbox which has about 3 years of mail in it...and apparently
many of our customers have changed there full name specs or have slightly
different ones depending on which mailer they use (I suppose mine is
different at home than at the office also)..I guess I'll be exporting
to process the mailing list and then re-importing, but I'll lose all of the
name information which is too bad.

thanks,

Dennis

In fact, I don't know what went wrong during unistall. The Bat should
uninstall clean.

In order to try fixing this problem, I believe I would indeed take a
loook at the registry.

The key HK_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rit\ should not be there. If you find
it, delete it. Try whether the link works now.

Be sure to not touch anything else in the registry. There is a way to
back it up first, and if would make you more comfortable, please ask.

socks program

Hi!

Does anyone know a SOCKS program that works correctly with TB? (if
it's free, even better!). I'm sharing an internet connection through
a proxy (that supports SOCKS), the proxy is working correctly with
applications that have built in Proxy support. BUt I can't check my
e-mail in that setup.

Before you suggest that I use TB's server/client capabilities I must
mention that none of the other parties use Windows.

.TBB files from The Bat!

2001-12-03 Thread Joseph N.

Tom, thank you for extending Zoot's incredible capabilities to The
Bat! I have a question, for anyone, about how best to use this
enhancement.

Zoot now can take TB!'s .TBB files. Those are mailbox files, which
contain all the raw messages in a given folder. (There is a separate
index file.) If I have a message come in that winds up in my inbox, it
will be among several other messages there. If it gets filtered, it
might be alone or it might be among several other messages in the
destination folder. Either way, a single message cannot be exported as
a .TBB file, nor can it be lifted from TB!'s user interface onto the
Zooter. If I transfer the entire .TBB file, it might contain other
messages, some which perhaps have already been Zooted, some not.

There seem to me to be two solutions to the problem, only one of which
is practical. I'm wondering if anyone has another idea. The
impractical solution is to keep one's email folders totally cleaned
out all the time. I cannot do that, partly because I use them for
filing and reference (which, I know, I could do in Zoot if I used
Outlook, but TB! is a better mail client and Lotus Organizer is a
better PIM than Outlook). The other solution is to filter or move the
email I want to Zoot into a separate email folder for Zooting. Then I
can Zoot it to my heart's content, and delete the contents from TB!

Am I overlooking a better alternative? (Other than throwing in the
towel and going to MS Office?)

I ended up using 'Socks Connector' which is not a wrapper, but more
