Thanks for testing.
Pretty strange that it works for you. I've tested it a few times with
different configurations and it _never_ deleted any mails from the server.
I am using TheBat 1.53t - maybe that's my mistake?

Is the current Betaversion stable enough to try it?
 Andy.

I've been searching for the perfect solution for this as well. Sun's
Star Office suite seemed very promising but since I think they are
doing away with the scheduler in their next version I didn't bother
with using it too much (I still use it for my Word/Excel substitute
however. It's a great product and free:). For a scheduler thing that
can send out e-mails with your e-mail client I heard "remind-me" is very
good. Not sure though since I haven't actually tried it. The url is
http://www.beiley.com/remind-me/download.html
Currently, since I have a Palm, I just use the Palm Desktop which is
synched up with my Palm for my organizer. I might give the remind-me a
try though since it also synchs with Palm. Let me know what you come
up with. I'm interested in a good solution that works with my Palm, my
contacts, and the Bat. Currently I really haven't found the perfect
set up.

It seems to me, as someone who has been thru nearly all the betas for
1.54, that some of the people who usually eschew betas but are a
little risk accepting, if they are impatient for the next release
could come on over the the beta and the beta list, although they
should think twice if they are running 9.x. I used it a long time with
9.x and put up with the memory loss crashes, but anyone moving to the
beta now should know that is probably the main reason 1.54 remains a
beta.

Hi Nick,

Personally, I also prefer my software more than relatively bug free
though I appreciate that most/all software has bugs of one sort or
another. I am happy to wait until things are right, as would most
people who rely on software to run their business.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying the best e-mail client I have yet encountered
one that already does more than I need, more reliably and with
less fuss than any other.

The only things I would personally change are the dodgy looking button
images and the uncertainty of whether I will have to pay to upgrade
when a new version does arrive. Given that I am about to pay for my
copies (16 more days!) I don't fancy shelling out again in a month or
so!

BTW, anyone know where to find some more classy buttons?

With best wishes,

Dave

It appears to be one of those "mind mapping" things, except that the
nodes of the map can be made up of any (possibly Web-based)
information, not just words you type in yourself. I must say the Web
site would be greatly helped by screen shots; although the authors are
in information management they're not handling it very well
themselves!

(As my mind is incapable of being mapped by anything in the normal
four dimensions, I keep well away from such packages ;)

That's really strange because I can't reproduce this behaviour. Maybe
the message you're replying to is a HTML-only message that doesn't
have a text part. But I don't know if that should make a difference. I
never receive such messages so I can't test it.

Hi David,

I normally select the text to be quoted and then hit F4. When the
original message was in HTML, I get the reply template but no quoted
text. I do not seem to have this problem when replying to non-HTML
text. I do not have my wheel set up for the shortcut to F4, but I don't
see where that would make a difference. Would it? Normally, hitting
the reply button gives me the Reply template with all text quoted, and F4
will give me either a blank Reply template or with whatever text was
selected. With HTML message, both are blank. (this reply was to your
message by selecting the text to be quoted and hitting F4; works
perfectly)

I never experience this because I never use the reply button. I always
select the text I want to quote and press my middle mouse button

That way you'll never have a full-quote reply like your reply to

Re: Reply to - no quoted material appears

2002-02-03 Thread Sam

I have noticed this problem too, but not with the tbudl. What I
notice is if I reply to a message which was sent to me in HTML, it
does not quote the text in the reply. I do use the %Quotes macro, but
it doesn't seem to work with the HTML messages.

It's a long and involved story Dave, the short version is this: I had
been using ZAP on my Win98 system for some time with no problems. I
upgraded to XP, and the problems started. ZAP is not, despite Zone
Labs claims, completely compatible with all XP set ups. Problems are
particularly noticeable on XP + dial up systems. Have also experienced
difficulties in setting up the Tiny FW with the local network, hence
my original statement.

although thinking about it the zoot approach of holding config info in
the database files location still seems more elegant. You don't have
to think about back-ups and restoring because your database is a
constant live back-up which can be plugged back into zoot simply by
repointing at it.

back-up and restore is still by the sounds of it a lot better than
what I was doing...

Regarding point two, I had WGM already and had been using it for 18
months or so without broadband or proxy, ie on a standard dialup
connection. I am happy with how it works, so again, for me at least, I
see no good reason to change to The Bat! server mode. If WGM screws up
at any point, then I will investigate changing over.

BTW, I mentioned BT Broadband as some of the proxy's I looked at don't
like the USB connection that BT use. PPPShar is very happy with it and
they give great support too ... they're a tiny Indian company (and
PPPShare is a tiny proxy that really illustrates that less is often
more).

Glad to hear you're up an running anyway.

It's pretty simple to port The Bat: start RegEdit, go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT and export the complete folder The
Bat!. Backup your complete The Bat installation (all folders,
including all Bat's files - thebat.exe, tbmapi.dll...), reformat the
hard drive, restore The Bat. If you didn't put it in the same path it
used before, fix the paths in the REG file, otherwise just import it
back to registry. Now run The Bat. Everything is just as it was before
the backup.

Somewhat baffled by all this ... you're missing Tools | Backup and
Tools | Restore which do all this for you (they back up all the
accounts' properties and so on into one file which can easily be hived
off to CD-R in case of disaster).

Unfortunately the "test account" problem is still present - you have
to create a dummy account before you get to the menus and can do the
restore. I've put a feature request in to fix this (which is trivially
easy!), though.

I have both my TB! installation directory and my mail base on my D:
drive. TB! uses 2 places to store its configuration, in the registry,
HKCU/Software/RIT and in some INI files in the mail directory. When I
plan on re-installing my OS, I backup the HKCU/Software/RIT key.

All you have to do then is to import the .reg file to get your Bat back.
I admit that this is not an easy solution, but I like it, because it's
fast and reliable.

There _was_ a problem with new features being added at too great a

bug-fixing going on.

Certainly, since about beta 25, I've felt no need to go back to
version 1.53.

I am not quite sure but the question comes up once in a while and all
we *can* say - and WIR, I think, does it quite good - is that at the
moment a new version shouldn't be released.

May I remind you, it was us - the users - telling RITLabs to not
release a Christmas version (thought I've told it just a few days ago)
because it would greatly harm TB!'s reputation. Just think of good
programmes that have been harmed by too early releases (Netscape's
Navigator/Communicator for one).

>From what I can see in the current beta TB! is nearing a release, but
there are still at least two major bugs to straighten out (optimising
memory handling for the RTFV under Win9x and some quirks with the CC).

Another thing that has to be said, RITLabs has changed the
developmental environment during the 1.54 beta series from Delphi 2 to
Delphi 6 opening up a new can of worms.

That is the long version of WIR.

Hope that Chesterfields ...

As it happens that is the option I've now chosen to use David, as
you'd expect it is also working flawlessly with TB! on my system. A
fully operational and effective firewall is another matter though,
I've still got a little work to do in that direction.

Majority of opinion received suggested using ICS which I am now doing.
It is working well (except for a firewall problem), most importantly I
have no mail problems.

As a additional point of interest, I asked the support guys at
deerfield.com if they had tested WinGate with the TB! I was rather
surprised when they relied and said that they'd never heard of The
Bat. Need I say that I've pointed then in the right direction
(http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/) in an attempt to educate them!
