You'll need filtering with Regular Expressions. Something which is
usually dealt with on TBTECH.

Now it depends what you call 'have my certificate installed on my PC'
and where you've 'installed' the Root certificate.
If this is only in your Internet Explorer certification area you'd
have to use Microsoft CryptoAPI instead of The Bat! internal
implementation of S/MIME to verify the signature.
Otherwise you'll have to import the Root cert into TB! address book
too to be able using the internal implementation and verifying
methods.

Allie,

Cart Commander is a program I wrote for tracking classic gaming collections.

The typical email I get is like this:

-
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Hi!

I just saw your Cart Commander program and wanted to know .

Signed,

Blah

-

These get filtered to my "Cart Commander" box. I use filtering so I can
prioritize my emails based on where they get routed to. If I know its a CC
message and I'm busy I can ignore them and then address them when I have time.
I get around 100+ messages a day (including SPAM) and I use Filtering to help
prioritize my messages and filter out the garbage.

It makes it harder to prioritize an item if it inadvertently gets routed to the
wrong place. By leaving out the Quoted portion of the message, I can then
route based on the new information in the message.

Now I can work around it by putting my full tag line in the filter and have it
say that its NOT present, however, there could be other situations that I
haven't thought of yet. The suggestion simply makes the filters more powerful
than they already are for what I would imagine would be very little effort
(assumption on my part).

This is not a huge issue with me, its just a "Wish".

No, its not. I get a lot of E-mails for Cart Commander and the first reference
to it is usually in the Body. What else would I filter on? It can't be
subject, because a lot of the E-Mails I get don't have that in the Subject. I

Ok, I just went back to the Filter dialog and realized what the paradigm is for
filtering. This was a misunderstanding on my part and we can scratch that
off the list.

Yes, I don't want to do that, it brings up another window, adding the the

I don't consider this fully off topic...

Peter,
Your S/MIME sign is invalid since it claims that: The issuer of this chain is not
found.

But: I possess the same type of certificate as you have, meaning that I am also a
validated member of Thawte freemail program. I have my certificate installed on my
PC, and it is valid.

This means that i have installed the CA Root Authorities (Personal Freemail RSA
2000.08.30 and Thawte Personal Freemail CA) that are required to validate your
certificate. This is why I think your certificate should be valid *by default* on
my PC, but it isn't.

I can think of two possible causes.
1. The Bat fails to recognise the root CA installed on my PC.
2. Having them on the PC (encapsulated by micros~1) is not enough. I have to
install the root CA as well in the Addressbook of The Bat.

Any light?

Ok, but isn't it better to choose another string to filter on. I find

The re-filtering works on all folders. The only filtering that is
confined only to the Inbox is the Inbox filter rules set being run
automatically. Otherwise you can manually apply the Inbox, replied or
read messages filter sets to any folder.

Or are you referring to automatic filtering of other folders using the
Inbox filter set?

The filters interface should be soon undergoing a revamp. I'm
surprised it hasn't yet. I guess that's for version 2.

BK> 7) Allow me to turn Image Scaling OFF for the internal viewer. I

Have you tried just double clicking on the image icon in the
attachments bar instead of clicking on the image tab. Double clicking
the icon will still use the internal viewer, but opens the image in
actual size.

If you wish to make a new query, which really is to post a new message
on a new subject to the list, you should hit the new message button
instead of simply replying to someone else's message and changing the
subject.

Replying to someone elses message will create unwanted references to
the message being replied to, and your new message to the list will be
threaded with the message referred to in the headers.

If you find creating a new message inconvenient and you really prefer
replying to another to get a post on a new topic going, then you can
still do so without causing threading problems if you delete the
'follow-up' headers by enabling the 'follow-up' to header field in
your editor (View/follow-up To) as shown in the screenshots.

http://www.geocities.com/acmartin.geo/edit.png
http://www.geocities.com/acmartin.geo/reply.png

You then delete the contents of the 'follow-up' field when the reply
message appears in the editor.

I only renamed one of the double QT and the problem was gone

My Wish List

2002-04-11 Thread Brien King

Ok, here are my items that I would like.

1) Should have the option in filters to ignore the quoted text. I've had
problems where messages get routed based on my Sig that was in quoted in a
reply. For example, I have "Cart Commander" route to its own mail box, my Sig
contains "Cart Commander" in it and the message may get routed to the "Cart
Commander" mailbox even though its not related to "Cart Commander". If I could
check an option that says "Ignore Quoted Text" this would help eliminate a lot
of false routings.

2) Re-Filter Messages from the Folder Menu appears to only filter on the In-Box.
I would like to see this work on which ever folder I have selected. I like to
organize my folders as much as possible and I am constantly making adjustments
based on the number and types of E-mails I may get over time.

I really love the way The Bat! allows me to rearrange folders using the arrow
keys. That is a godsend! I have 192 folders with over 18,000+ messages and
rearranging them is simple and painless. Being able to Re-filter on other
folders would be the icing on the cake.

3) A feature I really liked in Outlook was I could type partial addresses such
as "Bob S, Bill M, Jane D" then press Alt-K and it would automatically look for
those names in my address book and fill them out. Sometimes it was brain dead,
but for the most part it worked great. I know about the Alt + combination,
however, that is only one E-mail address at a time. The other feature was that
it would auto-look up the addresses after a few seconds.

4) Allow me to Right Click in a message and pick a Quick Template to insert.
Sometimes I'll forget what the exact name is of my Quick Template and I'll have
to go look it up. This turns it into a "Kinda-Quick Template" :-) Either that,
or allow me to type in part of the name, hit CTRL-Space and have a Drop Down
list popup and allow me to select it from there. (Like what CTRL-Space in
Delphi does)

5) Have an option that copies a "Redirected" message to the "Sent Items" folder
so I have a record of that. I might be able to do this with a filter and I'll
check into it, but it would be nice to have that as an automatic thing (with the
option to turn it off for those who don't like this idea).

6) On the Filters Dialog "Alternatives Tab", rather than using a TScrollBox,
it should be changed to a TListView (or my much preferred alternative
TVirtualTree). This would make it easier to read and manage.

7) Allow me to turn Image Scaling OFF for the internal viewer. I get pics of
screen shots, and when they are scaled down, they become unreadable. I would
much prefer to able to just use the scroll bars.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head and if I think of more, I'll
write those up as well. Keep up the excellent work and thanks for making a
great E-Mail client!

Re: Using the cookie macro in an address book template.

2002-04-11 Thread Luc

 Good evening David,

It was foretold that on 11-4-2002 @ 13:48:35 GMT+0100 (which was
14:48:35 where I live) David Stone wrote and spread these wise
comments on "Using the cookie macro in an address book template.":

DS> Thanks Luc, I tried that but it still used the first 'cookie' file

Then it will be indeed a bug as Peter mentioned. Sorry :-(

Odd search results

2002-04-11 Thread Arnie

Hello All,

After years of absolutely hassle-free TB! use I've recently
encountered odd behavior when searching for messages. This has only
started in the last 2 weeks.

Whenever I do a search for messages in a folder that contains a
subfolder (the subfolder option is checked) not all of the matches
appear in the results window. For instance, the status bar will show
"4 messages found in 2 folders" but only 2 messages will appear in the
results window.

To do a little testing I then did a search using the same criteria in
the subfolder and the missed messages do appear. Thinking maybe
something got corrupted I installed 1.6 but it didn't solve the
problem.

As far as I know I haven't changed a single setting. Does anyone
happen to have any suggestions? This feature is one of favorite
aspects of the TB! and I use it almost daily.

I guess, it is internally told to use the original sender's address when
those keys are pressed on "reply"... I'm not sure about the reason, but it
works. :-)

It's the same as 'Specials' / 'Reply to sender' -> +
It uses 'Sender:' or if not present 'From:' to address the answer to.
It intentionally ignores 'Reply-To:' (as this you can address by using
normal Reply function).

Trial and error. The help files. Assistance from fellow-users. The
really complicated macros are regular expressions. Those can be used
in lots of environments, not only TB, there area books written about
it, you could try that.

You could also use macros posted by others and change them to suit
your own needs.

Only that without Thawte and Verisign (and the like) there is no
authentication of S/MIME certificates. With PGP, this is accomplished
by a "web of trust", where keys are signed by other PGP key owners to
add weight to the signatory's claim to be who they say they are.

I begin to understand. In order to have your sig show up "valid", I'd have
to add _you_ in my address book of trusted CA (Certification Authority).
Right. That's why it was the only option given here...

Colin, to get an S/MIME signature working, you need a verification from a
superior authority like Thawte or Verisign. This is the way the "Web Of
Trust" works wit5h S/MIME certs. Have a look at www.thawte.com .

It is different from PGP's web of trust, which relies on the users'
responsibility.

Hello Colin,
it is not enough just to generate the certificate. You need to
generate the Request from the same dialog window *and* submit it to
Certification Authority for verification and later signing. The CA
will respond to your request with file confirming your data. You'll
install that file and after that you'll be able to use it without
   problem.

Re: S/MIME - CA Root certificates

Hello Peter,
try to visualize the certificate, take a look on issue, usually
they put a reference to their web site. Visit that web site, look
for "instal CA certificate", download certificates, they should
install automatically. Probably that would be a good idea to use
   IExplorer for that operation.

If you could not find "install CA certificates", try to locate
"latest CRL" or "Certificate Revocation List". The download would
be bigger, but it also contains CA certificates. (btw, it's a good
   practice to update your CRLs).

Hi Nick

It's very simple. You have to create an address book, edit its

The most significant difference is:

Thawte is supporting S/MIME
   vs.
PGP _is_PGP

Double QuickTemplate name :-)
You have two (or more?) QT's named identically.

The 'secure' way is to rename all file called 'ACCOUNT.QTN' except one,
start TB!, write down QT-names. Stop TB!, rename the last 'ACCOUNT.QTN',
name an other back to 'ACCOUNT.QTN', start TB!, write down QT-names ... and
so on.

Know you should know which QT's have identical names. So you can enable
_one_ (a last time, I promise *G*), start TB! again, rename affected QTs,
stop TB! and rename all 'ACCOUNT.QTN' back. The error message should be
gone next time you start TB!.

An ideal target name when renaming the files can be 'ACCOUNT.QT_' as this
is easy to recognize and change back :-)

Re: thawte Certificate Installation Problems

2002-04-11 Thread Paul Cartwright

Hello Colin,
an aside note. I went back to Thawte to get a new certificate for this
email account, and I got most of the way through the process until it
got to the part about generating the key pair. It gave me an error ( I
forget the text 3 words) but basically I tried all the different types
of encoding and got the same error. I had to EXIT from the PGPKeys
tray program, THEN it worked.
for those that want to get their own free thawte certificate, here is
their home page:
https://www.thawte.com/contents.html

( look under personal certificates)

you basically sign up, and request a certificate, they send you the
signup info by email. I have certificates for each email ID I use.
Thawte also mentioned that they are discontinuing PGP support.

later,

Before doing anything else BACKUP your message base!

Then you can try to delete the new unwanted Folders "leaving the
message base files _INTACT_".

IMHO this Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L thing became a problem with the
introduction of common folders. When trying to find lost common
folders (cursor on commen folder when pressing the key combination) it
gets confused with the normal account directories and common folders
directories...

Hi Miguel,

I am running Winfax pro 9.0 and TB! but I don't fax per email.
I have TB! installed as simple mapi handler with not adverse effect.
To reverse this you should rename the old mapi.dll and overwrite the new
one.
This is explained in a pop-up window when you press that install button.
Let me know if it works and with what version of Winfax.

CP> The attached gif causes a crash with The Bat! on my PC.

The GIF is a little broken, but it's just that some frames don't have
"remove previous frame" flag set properly (the first frame doesn't
have it, so after the first loop, the last frame stays visible behind
the first, and some frames have it set in some strange manner, so some
viewers display only the moving eyebrows - w/o the rest of frame). The
Bat and Opera display it the same way (last frame stays visible when
the first frame is drawn), IE6 displays it as the author intended,
while IrfanView and K-Meleon 0.65 (Moz-0.9.9) display the
"eyebrows-only" frame.

Remove own alias from replies

2002-04-11 Thread Markus Gloede

Hi,

I receive email under two different names in the same POP3 mailbox (e.g.
there is an alias for my address). When I use reply-to-all my alias
address that the original mail went to is put in the Cc field. How can I
get rid of this? I already tried to enter my alias address in the account
settings but that didn't help.

To clarify:

The account is set up with [EMAIL PROTECTED] as main address, mail sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] also ends up in the [EMAIL PROTECTED] POP3 inbox. Now when I reply to
a mail that went to [EMAIL PROTECTED] that address gets put in the Cc field. How
do I tell the Bat that it should ignore [EMAIL PROTECTED] just as it ignores
(drops) [EMAIL PROTECTED]?

WinFax Pro and The Bat!

2002-04-11 Thread Miguel A. Urech

Hello all,

I have been using the tandem WinFax Pro/Outlook Express to send faxes
by e-mail for some time now. This should be also possible with other
(MAPI compliant?) e-mail clients as well.

Two questions:

1.- Is there anyone out there using WinFax Pro and The Bat! for this?
Or, has anyone tried to?

2.- I am willing to test if the tandem with TB! works, but it looks
like the first I should do is "Install TB! as the simple MAPI request
handler" from Options/Preferences/Applications, and I don't know:
a.- What are the consequences of selecting this option in TB!
(i.e. can I "break" something that I may later regret?)
b.- How do I un-install "TB as the simple MAPI..." if after the
tests if the combination WinFAX Pro/The Bat! doesn't work?

Thank you in advance.

Have a look into 'Options' / 'Network and Administration' for your dial-up
settings. Additionally have a look at account properties / 'Network'.

If in doubt change them (e.g. to 'nothing'), confirm and change them back
to what they should be.

This should help, I think TB! is just somehow 'confused' which to use right

Even if I check the option for an external viewer the program crashes
if the incoming message is html formatted and containg gifs. Breaking
the protocol, I shall forward to you in a separate message an example
sent to me by a friend today. Coincidentally, but ironically, the
message concerns another email client. Anyway, this message causes The
Bat! to crash on my PC after 4-5 seconds.

Copy the account directory in your preferred file manager and create a new
account in TB! named exactly like this directory. TB! will recognize all
settings when it sees the directory.

Good Morning,

I'm fairly new to all the neat stuff in TB! so please be patient with

I am setting up a reply template and would like to pick some things
out of this email body to include in the reply like;

Hi (insert their name from "your_name:"),

You subscribed using the address of (insert "your_email_address:")

I'm not sure how you do this. I've looked around and just haven't seen
the magic words.

Thanks for bearing with me.

New Connection = No Connection

2002-04-11 Thread Databug

Hello all,
I wanted to change my dialup prefs by renaming the connections in the
Controlpanel/networkconnection. But when I dialled up with the newly
renamed connection The bat would no longer log into my EMail account.
I tried severall times with diffrent dialup numbers. Yet Outlook
managed it. Is there any way around this?

That`s all for now

Thanks Luc, I tried that but it still used the first 'cookie' file
opened for the subject after switching focus to the message pane. I
even tried placing the various cookie files elsewhere.

have all all but the top account duplicated under the top account

duplicate folders' contents from within an account.

Have had no problems until upgrade to 1.6. Any more words of wisdom?

Is there a way to clone an account either inside or outside The Bat!?
I have all settings the way I like (column header widths, fonts,

like to copy an account and only reset the name of the account, and

Using the cookie macro in an address book template.

2002-04-11 Thread David Stone

Hello,

In a 'new message' template in the AB I have included the following macros...

%SUBJECT="%COOKIE='C:\Program Files\The Bat!\subject.txt' Reference Number
%TRACKINGNUMBER"

[%SUBJ]

...%COOKIE

Which correctly creates a new message with a subject header taken at
random from the file subject.txt, creates the repeated subject in []
brackets in the message pane and then at the end adds a random cookie
from the accounts' cookie file.

However when I click in the message pane (change focus) to write the
text the ...%COOKIE line changes and becomes the one selected from the
file 'subject.txt' as shown in the subject header.

I've even tried pointing the ...%COOKIE line to a different file and
that works only until I change focus to the message pane.

Am I asking too much from The Bat! or doing something wrong? It looks
as if only one cookie file can be opened per message?
