I have had two occasions when TB and my AV program circled the campfire as TB downloaded to a tmp file and the AV program notified me I had received an exploit virus. On each occasion, I went out to the web and deleted the offending emails at the server. Then it was necessary to delete TB's tmp files to satisfy (shut up) the AV program. I had the impression that using dispatch would allow me to get to those emails and to delete them at the server level. However, I was not successful. How does one actually use dispatch from within TB to delete mail at the server? Both of the occasions involved false positives when someone had written asking about the html exploit virus and quoted a bit too much of the string involved smile but it gave me a chance to see the interaction between TB and the AV program. I just went through this with TB, eTrust and mail2 web. Can the dispatch utility in TB delete the message on the server? If so, how? Elaine I'm using PC-Cillin 2000 with no problems. It scans all POP3 mail coming in without a plug-in. I've seen no problems except one. It detected the KLEZ virus and deleted it, but did not delete the mail from the server. I had to log in through PINE an kill the message. Well, I admit that my inbox is pretty slim, though not non-existent laughter. Filtering puts 99% of my mail in its own folders, but I don't want to accidentally delete all the items in one of those folders either because I am too tired to see straight. I still think an empty trash command makes sense. Automatically store reply in same folder
I am in the process of converting from Outlook to the Bat (1.60c) and am busy setting up incoming filters happily. One thing that Outlook let you specify was to automatically store a outgoing reply in the same folder as the original message. For most purposes this avoided the need for outgoing filters. Is there a way of setting this up in the Bat, either with a general filter, or some option that I have missed somewhere? If you download directly with TB! without using one of those applications to help with web based mail (like web2POP), then the dispatcher should work. Just connect using CTRL+Shift+F2, to display all messages, old and new. The messages on the server will be listed. Mark the offending message for only deletion and let it process the mail. I don't see why the dispatcher shouldn't work via an intermediary application as well anyway. Odd that it will not work for you. So when you're never exiting TB and only do manual 'purge all folders' you'll need to set the folder properties for trash correct. You can also search for clips by date or display any text written or pasted into it by date. Only the user can tell if he has a need for such a tool. The fact that Inbox is the default folder where TB will put incoming mail that is filtered to other folders, does not mean it is different to any other folder. It is just a folder and different people may use it in different ways. Like any other folder, it does require a confirmation before deleting all messages. How to remove attachments?
Hello TBUDL, In my Attach directory there are a lot of attachments. Some of them belong to my mails, but some are obsolete--corresponding mails have been deleted but attachments left. How can I efficiently remove these obsolete attachments? There are thousands of mails so it's not practical to open each mail to identify which attachment is not obsolete. BTW, I selected 'remove attachment if mail deleted from Trash', but it doesn't work? Storing attachments with messages brings an inconvenience that I cannot simply browse for the attached files once I need them but don't want to go into The Bat! to open them. But if they are not in the same level, and still have same name - you can. It is same as in Winblows Explorer. But this is word about *first letter* (of a name) here as a reference, not about entire name. RO can't switch between Inboxes, but for the rest If you have no other folders beginning with I you can easily switch between Inboxes through accounts. It seems we couldn't understand each other. ping with incoming messages
When I download my messages the computer pings after each message. This is quite annoying with 50-100 messages. It started about 10-12 days ago, after installing and un-installing the You-Have-Got-Mail program. I don't know whether it is related to this or not. Tried different setting but cannot find the source of the ping. I am impressed! grin Seriously, I trash and purge at night before shutting down. I generally take a quick look at what is there before dumping the trash. The empty trash has been in every other mail program I have ever used, so it can't be *all* bad. I also scan/defrag the computer, but I manually set it in and do not use automatic settings. IFrame.Exploit virus
Is this virus the one called Klez? In the past two days someone sent me ( or I received) a couple different Virus. Once had a attachment file called active.exe. AVG did not alarm when I downloaded it but I had a good idea that it was a virus, so when I selected the file, preparing to save it to a location to scan AVG alarm popped up. I never ran the execution file just deleted it. AND promptly emptied and compressed the trash can. Funny thing is I have recently received a email that said it was from mail sub system making it look like it was a email that I had sent out, showing it was from me. Like it had bounced back. But when it had a attachment. So I looked to see if I had any random messages going out ( in my sent folder ) - everything looked normal. So I ran a completed scan with AVG and it turned up nothing. My computer is clean. Still doubting I went to Trends Site and am running the House Call online scan. Thus far, nothing. BUT if my machine is clean, and it seems to be, then there is a virus out there that will send you a message appearing to be a bounced message from your machine. It will have attachments and I am assuming ---If you click on them to see what they are you will be infected. AS far as I can tell The Bat has not opened or allowed any of these virus / worms to activate on their own. Any information on how to double check security of The Bat is appreciated. With this new known filter adding people to your address book becomes a lot more important. But there is no way currently to quickly remove people from the address book. It is a two click process to add someone. . . but quite a bit more complicated to remove them. So my feature request is for a remove from address book as a right click option for any email address. I can't actually remember now, it's been so long:) Actually, I think the problem was that The Bat! and Yahoo actually was able to store more different fields than the Palm allowed so my goal ( I think ) was to keep The Bat! and Yahoo synched up correctly and then used the yahoo synch feature to keep it synched with the Palm. Needless to say I've just dropped doing any synching between The Bat, Yahoo, and The Palm. I ended up with duplicate records and things going into the wrong places, it was just a mess so I gave up. After inspecting your trash folder, hit CTRL-Del with the trash folder open and the folder pane in focus. When the confirmation message appears, hit OK. Because, once when very new to TB, while emptying trash I trashed sent which follows alphabetically in my lineup and had to retrieve everything I had sent laughter. Thus, I fully understand what the person's computer-intermediate mother might have done. I admin a mailing list of about 1500 computer-genealogy newbies. I *know* what they are capable of doing if I managed to do that. That's why most of them are using friendly mail programs. That's what they can handle right now and that's why Gates has his money. It did arrive and as you said it appears to be from my own computer and with the attachment file showing up. Scary. Can people do this, send stuff like this out to other people and make it appear as though it is from me? I am very cautious about opening attachments, and I have my AVG antivirus set to check and update my AVG if its over one day old. I even run a firewall or did, until I upgraded to WINXP, which has a built in firewall ( supposedly ) at least I did choose to install one when I set up this connection. There's no one program for everyone and that's the beauty of choice and diversity. I was just looking at OE (so long since I opened the thing) and there's one way that I could find for emptying the trash (deleted items) folder. You right click the folder and hit the Empty deleted items folder item (identical to TB!). You cannot do the same with any other folder. Why? Because of the userbase. TB!'s userbase wouldn't tolerate that stifled functionality ... which supposedly exists in the interest of human error. It's all give and take. With increased functionality comes complexity and increased user responsibility. Some companies aptly attack this very real issue by offering multiple versions for different user types like basic, standard and pro versions. TB! does come in different flavours but only with respect to security models. In those other flavours, it's even more complex. It doesn't appear to be clearly evident from ACM what you're saying. A filter is set up once under Eudora and then enabled for the function you want it to perform. Under TB!, you end up creating duplicate filters under different sections (incoming, outgoing, etc.) It seems like more work and maintenance that way. ANYWAY the Trend House Call scan turned up negative as well as the AVG full scan of my C: drive so I guess my PC is clean. I have now downloaded / installed the latest version of Zone Alarm. No longer running any other mail client other than The Bat. So I guess, I have done all I can do, other than pull the plug on the internet. Folder colours

All the received folders are blue. I have no recollection of making them blue - they just are! I have just created another set of folders/sub folders for yet another list I have subscribed to, but the received folder in this tree doesn't appear as blue. Is there anyway I can make it the same colour as the others? I am probably missing something here (as usual!) but I really don't remember doing anything in the first place to create the blue folders. The Windows firewall tends to adversely affect the third party ones so I'd disable it.
