I was reading through a thread on the TBBETA list in which someone was explaining the "smart quote" feature. They explained it as being exactly what the quick templates from the thread i posted do. However, there wasn't a mention of it being actually "smart" and not wrapping as i suggested. ie: not wrapping the To, From, Subject fields of a forwarded message or another example would be not wrapping numbered lists. So just to make sure, does the "smart quote" actually wrap only text which it deems as paragraphs or does it wrap everything as it does now using the QT's from the referenced thread? And on a side note, how many betas are typically released before an official public version is released? Donot run too much stuff at the same time Use enough memory No idea what you are using but believe me, most systems are running less memory then they need. I often make my customers the offer that I will fit extra ram free of charge, ie I remove it if they donot want it. Most see so much speed difference they want to keep what I put in If you run anything like Xp or 2000, consider that the faster the processor, the more ram you need to buffer between hard disk / processor as afterall the hard disk is the stone behind your computer and slowing it down. if you run many internet tasks, multiple downloads or whatever enough memory is a must. -- Best regards, tracer Using The Bat! v1.63 Beta/5 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Unable to open Excel spreadsheets
It seems that when I receive a MS Excel file as an attachment to an incoming e-mail message and try to open it from the message, i.e., instead of saving it as a separate file first, I receive the following error: "The system cannot find the path specified." When I click on an Excel file in a folder, however, it opens right up. There are spaces in the file name of both spreadsheets, the one that opens and the one that doesn't; and the program that should open it is Lotus 1-2-3, not Excel, although that shouldn't matter. smarter quote wrapping
After some searching, i stumbled across a quick template which would wrap replied text. The thread can be found here, http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com/msg44735.html But as many have complained, TB's editor uses hard formatting and only recognizes paragraphs by a blank line, so many people's lists are formatted into a single block of text without any carriage returns. Unfortunately, i don't have a suggestion for that. However, i do have one for forwarded message. typically a forwarded message consists of: -Original Message- From: First Last [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 12:41 PM To: First Last Subject: This is my subject Would it be possible to rewrite the quick template from the thread above so that when it recognizes a Original Message line along with any From:, Sent:, etc fields, it does not wrap them? That way replies to forwarded messages will look correctly. -Alex Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I like to have the original in front of me, too. I have my Windows arranged in a tiled fashion--I did it through manually sizing them, rather than selecting Tiles--such that a message I am Replying to peeks out to the left, just behind the Reply "Edit Mail Message" Window. I am a Mouse person. So, a click in the original field that sticks out will put the original I am replying to in front of me, and--since I have the Reply Window just a little longer than the "View Folder Window" of the original--I can click in that field and get back to message composition. Now--if you went back to the first message in the thread and put its Window up, could you size things such that you could click back and forth? I haven't tried it for that. And maybe you are not a Mouse person at all. Also, maybe someone will come up with the exact key-stroke for your needs, and all this speculating is for nothing! Admin Rights- and Group-related Bug?
Some time ago I noted this, but I didn't see any response. I will file as a bug unless someone indicates a reason why this is not one. Multi-user configuration, all of whom have user rights except for Administrator, who has administrator rights. Some of the users are within one group (of which the administrator is not a member). This is the only group in the configuration. When administrator logs on and goes into Tools/Networks (or whatever it is called; anyone still reading this knows which menu choice I'm referring to), there are two events--at least here--which, I believe, should not occur. One is that, under Privileges, the first listed user always has admin rights, not the user rights he should have. The other is that, under Groups, the group is no longer a group. The member accounts have to be re-selected and the group re-created. Comments? Saving searches was just one of the possibilities of Bookmarks (or of bookmarking messages), there were other way of bookmarking a message, even just manually by hitting B while the message was selected. One real good think about bookmarks, as compared to Colour Groups, was that a message could be bookmarked to any number of bookmark sets. orphan directories?
Hello listmembers! I'm not sure if this has come up earlier - I couldn't find it in the FAQs or the groups. On one of my accounts with a large number of subsubfolders (664 to be exact) in a subfolder, there are some folders with complete .tbb and .tbi files, but these do no longer appear in the folder view in TheBat! I re-imported the .tbb of one of these directories correctly into TheBat, but its a bit hard to cross-chek every time which folders are lost. Somewhere I read the tip to re-index messed-up folders, but since I don't even see these folders in TheBat, this is a bit hard to do. Rootsweb called it to everyone's attention (including mine) in a newsletter last week, and suddenly it had 171 new subscribers. The policy is extreme tolerance with newbies. Explain, but let them make their mistakes over and over without being scolded. There's a lot of knowledge and skill being dispensed and information offered, including advice about "Netiquette," aside from my posts. Just about *everyone* there responded to my query on my missing "Reply to" with, hit Reply All. None of them seem to mind getting duplicate messages. :) I don't think I want to get into a discussion with the moderator on her List settings at this point. The level of experience, even with her, is, I think, Outlook Express. Good teaching goes from the known to the unknown? I think I'd better go slow. But I do mean to evangelize for The Bat! In opening the communication with a mail server a so-called HELO greeting is issued by the mail client. The 'language' used in the communication between your mail client and a mail server is called SMTP. It looks like the mail server you are using to send out your mail doesn't like the way TB introduces itself. The bat usually starts its communication with "EHLO" and the name of your computer*. By saying EHLO rather than HELO the Bat declares that it is capable of speaking extended SMTP (which is now widely 'spoken'). There could be two issues: - the mail server doesn't like to be approached with a EHLO greeting - the way your computer's name appears in the greeting is not liked by the mail server In the first case the Bat should fall back to a HELO greeting and mail client and mail server should keep on talking to each other. If this is the case I don't know why this isn't happening. In the last case you'd have to dive deeper to see what OE uses to start the communication and what the Bat uses. The following information might be helpful in tracking down the problem: - Is there any more information in the Bat's logs (Shift-Ctrl-A or Account/View log)? - What type of mail server is the Bat talking to? Regards, Markus *I'm not sure but it could also be that the Bat does it wrong by not using your computer's name in the greeting but rather the name of the computer it is talking to. I can't verify it it on my machine since I am doing various weird things with my outgoing mail. What I need is to be able to select from 2 email addresses per AB entry. I have lots of people I correspond with at work AND at home. Sometimes I send them business stuff, sometimes jokes to their home address(just kidding, I NEVER forward jokes:) and it seems a waste to have 2 AB entries for the same person. any ideas? -- Paul Using The Bat! v1.63 Beta/4 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hi Allister, Was it TB! taking 97% or some other process? In my case Zonelabs started acting up and taking all processor power. -- Best regards, Gerard -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Someone once told me that there is more to life than golf. Cheers! Worked a treat. I have been putting off asking this on this list for ages because i thought it was a waste of time and space, I should have just asked in the beginning. Thanks Allie and most importantly, thank you Roelof for your tip. -- dan. e [EMAIL PROTECTED] w http://www.danhirning.com Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
