Re: Why do replys not go to the same address the orginals are sent to?

2004-09-09 Thread David Earl
Hi Michael,

MLW Hi,

MLW When I receive messages from this list, I use a filter to put the
MLW messages in a common folder called TBUDL. I have tried to reply to a
MLW few of these messages, yet the default from address that is chosen
MLW is the top of my account list, sorted alphabetically. Why does The
MLW Bat!, 3.0, with no bugs, sometimes do this? Should it not always, and
MLW I mean ALWAYS choose the address that the message was originally
MLW addressed to?

Perhaps neither here nor there, but I just found something while
editing an eMail. The status bar at the bottom of the eMail shows the
account, which will be used for replying, right? (2nd item from the
right at the bottom of the editing window.) If you have more than one
account, you can right-click on that item, and it will allow you to
change to another account, even when replying from common folders.

Even from the outbox of Account1, the account can be changed that way, and the
message is automatically moved to the outbox of AccountN.

Other status bar items also have similar context-menus, FWIW.

Myself, I set the identity to desired account in the common folder's
properties. The new messages replies land in the desired outbox, no
problems.

I have seen on the RitLabs Homepage, that a new TB! version is

What is your opinion? What features are woth the upgrade?

Filters in v3 (and perhaps v2 as well for all I know)

2004-09-09 Thread Stuart Moore
Filters are driving me potty. I belong to a mailing list for Pentax camera owners.
This list has a lot of messages a day but I am only interested in messages that are
about my camera, namely a *ist D - a stupid name I know.

I have created a virtual folder that looks for any messages for which:

message source contains *ist d OR
message source contains *istd

This works really well.

However, what I really want to do, is delete any messages that do not contain these.
As a first step, I thought that instead of using a virtual folder I would simple move
all messages meeting the above criteria to another folder. However, having removed the
virtual folder and create a new filter on the inbox using the same criteria I find I
get NO matches!!

Why would it work for virtual folders and not normal filters? Surely it is the same
code? What am I doing that is stupid?

Please help...

(and if anyone would care to tell me instead how to dump any messages that do not meet
the criteria instead, that would be even better).

DialogWindows

2004-09-09 Thread David Earl
Hi All,

I'm wondering if the behavior of some dialogs is a desired feature,
or unintentional. Try the following:

Open an address book.
Open a Sorting Office dialog.
From the address book, open an address.
Switch back to the Sorting Office dialog.

The Sorting Office dialog appears to have focus (the caption bar is
colored, instead of grayed out), but it cannot be moved or resized,
nor does it respond to any other actions. The Edit Address dialog must
be closed before the Sorting Office dialog will respond. The same with
the Edit Mail Message dialog.

To my way of thinking, it's nice to see the dialog, but the caption should
retain the inactive (grayed out) color, so as to avoid confusion.

Just noticed: Switching via Alt-Tab is not possible. Once the Edit
Address dialog is opened, the other windows (Edit Mail Message,
Sorting Office, etc.) disappear from the Z-Order (and the dialog
displayed during Alt-Tabing). They can, however, be reached via
the TaskBar (and mouse), which makes me think that this behavior is
unintentional, and potentially a Windows misbehavior.

Ha... the toy software I was talking about is TB! That says
something about Microsoft's position in the market.

I do use Linux quite a lot though - Gentoo (www.gentoo.org). I made
this decision because a) they have a nice friendly user community
(quite bat-like, but much bigger and so less personal) and b) it's a
source-based distro so you can can tweak your compile options for your
hardware. You'd be surprised how much performance you can gain by
compiling for *your* architecture and omitting lots of just in case
options that the Suse's and the Mandrake's of this world put in.

If you want to talk more I'll see you on the other side... (tbot) If
you've got time and you don't *need* to be up 100% of the time then
it's a blast. TB! runs OK under wine too, I ran for about six months

ACK

SM However, having removed the virtual folder and create a new filter
SM on the inbox using the same criteria I find I get NO matches!!

I guess that you had a filter in place that moved Pentax messages to
another folder. Now if you follow that with a filter that will be
triggered by a subselection of the same messages it won't do that,
unless you set the option 'continue processing with other filters'
(both v2 and v3) or when you make the second filter a subfilter for
the first (v3 only)

As you're looking for something that'll work for both v2 and v3, you
could try this:

Filter1:
Sender contains list-address
AND message source does not contain *ist d
AND message source does not contain *istd
Action move to trash

Filter2:
Sender contains list-address
Action move to folder

Filters are processed top down in the sorting office.
As filter1 processes every list message without '*ist d' and '*istd'
the only list messages that filter2 will see are those with either one
or both of these strings. So filter2 doesn't need to be more specific
than this.

When you'd change the order of these two filters, this solution
wouldn't work anymore, because filter2 picked all of the messages,
therefore letting filter1 run dry. To prevent this you'd need to set
'continue processing with other filters' on filter2 and you'd need to
set the source folder for filter1 to the target folder of filter2.

Changing the order would have two disadvantages.
1: Most of your list messages will be processed twice by a filter,
   this takes time
2: Your filters are getting more complicated
3: Even though they're deleted from your list folder, the unwanted
list messages will be copied to your list folder and therefore
they'll take space until the next time you're compressing that
   folder.

Note: Most people tend to skip on characters that are neither letter
nor number (hardly anybody on this list talks about 'The Bat!') and
unless Pentax owners differ on this point (what I cannot imagine,
myself owning a Pentax as secondary camera) they'll tend to skip the
asterix, so you could do that too.

RO I guess that you had a filter in place that moved Pentax messages to

RO unless you set the option 'continue processing with other filters'
RO (both v2 and v3) or when you make the second filter a subfilter for
RO the first (v3 only)

RO As you're looking for something that'll work for both v2 and v3, you
RO could try this:
I am now on v3. I am trying to find the regular expression that will match, in general
syntax terms

[*]ist[-][d] in the subject line or main text (where [] denotes optional and this is a
complete word so I do not get matches on words beginning with ist)

I assume this should be something along these lines:

(?i)^*?ist-?d?$

where: (?i) says case does not matter (is this the default anyway?)
^ is meant to indicate this is the start of a word
*? is meant to indicate zero or one *
-? is meant to indicate zero or one -
d? is meant to indicate zero or one d
$ is meant to indicate that this is the end of the word

I am guessing that * and - have special meanings so I can not do it this way.

RO Note: Most people tend to skip on characters that are neither letter
RO nor number (hardly anybody on this list talks about 'The Bat!') and
RO unless Pentax owners differ on this point (what I cannot imagine,
RO myself owning a Pentax as secondary camera) they'll tend to skip the
RO asterix, so you could do that too.
Sadly, a very high proportion of the members include the *.

I had a problem with thebat crashing about 5 times a day. I sent in
a request and they responded right away with an updated version,
3.0.0.0.8, which still did not fix the problem completely, although the
frequency is much less, maybe once a day now.
I have sent many other requests for service and have yet to receive a
response. I guess with the release of v3 that are very busy so I
will just wait and hope they respond.
My biggest problem is I have paid for the software and have not
received the serial/registration number yet, so since I love theBat,
and don't want the trial to expire, I am a little worried that it will
expire and I will not have my registration number in time and lose
all my configuration and saved e-mail.

R Dunno. Can you install msi installation files on Wine?

TB! works fine under CrossOver Office, which is an implementation
of WINE. I don'ty know if WINE only recognises .exe files as does
COO, sso the .msi installer wouldn't work. The answer I found was
to install an earlier version of TB! (2.12) under COO which uses
the .exe file instead, and install the v3 onto a Windows PC and
then copy across thebat.exe and the two .dll files that are in
the TB! Program directory into the TB! directory under COO. It's
a bit faffy, but it does get around the .msi installer problem.

Hello Zeynel,

The spam score settings seems useless for BayesIt, I've never seen a
 75 scored message, too.

Did you feed BayesIt with many of junk and non-junk mails by
 classifying them?

How do I do that. Where is the documentation for Version 3 of TheBat
using version 0.06.00 of bayesit that explains how to do this.
I have a folder with thousands of real junk.
How do I clear out bayesit and start it from scratch using these

  Thanks

Yes. That's because some betas already converted to the NFS. But when
you never used it, it'll probably be an unsatisfactory conversion. So
the proper way to start with the NFS is to check whether you've got
some (faulty) account.srb files. In case you do, you delete them.
You start TB and it'll convert your OFS (account.srx) to the NFS
 (account.srb)
Of course you shouldn't delete the .srb files when you've done some
modifying on the previously converted NFS.

OK, it's now clear to me what you meant by deleting NFS (the conf.
file, not anything else), and what relationship the OFS and NFS live in.
I didn't know either what the .srb file is for (since it is not readable
as the previous conf. format). ...TB becomes a bit cryptic and...
occult, as I feel somehow?

MM I will just lose all my filters this way! Am I reading correctly?

Not quite. Only your new filters.

OK, the new filters in NFS. Now clear all. Thanks. (-:

DG Doesn't work on my system. Are you using 2.12.00?

Andre What doesn't work? Try it: Look at a message in the preview pane not in
Andre it's own window. Mark some text. Right click in the message body and
Andre choose Message-Reply to all quoting selected text Works well here.

Is it possible to setup a hotkey for this to work in its own window, ie if
opened from the mail-ticker? I know about F4, but can't use it as it's
dedicated to a system-wide macro that I need there...

I've got ALT-R setup to reply quoting only selected text in the normal window,
but what about if the message is open from the mail-ticker? (Yes, I hunted
through the 'Edit Shortcut keys', but couldn't find the relevant setup.)

The two hemispheres of a dolphin's brain work independently. For 8 hours, the
entire brain is awake. The left side then sleeps for 8 hours. When it wakes
up, the right side sleeps for 8 hours. Thus the dolphin gets 8 hours of sleep
without ever having to stop physically.

I tired changing the shortcut key in Edit Shortcut keys. There
shortcut was noted as changed in that dialog, however, it did not work
and the specials menu still listed F4.

Quoting when replying to this message is good for your karma.

Me too. One of the problems is that it's not always clear as to which
menu/window/section the particular shortcut refers to.

Depressed since he could not find a job, 42-year-old Romolo Ribolla sat in his
kitchen near Pisa, Italy, with a gun in his hand threatening to kill himself
in 1981. His wife pleaded for him not to do it, and after about an hour he
burst into tears and threw the gun to the floor. It went off and killed his
wife.

Problem about the SSL authentication

2004-09-09 Thread Jiang Xu
The pop3 server needs an SSL authentication, but TheBat! said,

2004-9-10, 12:03:21: FETCH - The server uses TLS protocol version 3.0
which is outdated and insecure (version 3.1 is required)

How can I resolve this problem? Does that mean I can't get letters
from that TLS protocol version 3.0 server?

It happens in Version 3.0pro and 2.12 also. (WindowsXP Environment)

THANKS in advance.

lol! OK, no skins :-)

I don't care, actually, as long as they are optional - but
when something fundamental isn't working, that is
annoying, and I'm really hoping that I can find fixes for
this IMAP stuff, because I'm kind of afraid it's eating my
mail.

It looks like I'm going to have to decide either to go
back to v2X, or register v3 and hope the next release
fixes the issues and isn't too far down the road.

And just when the filters are all working, too :-(
