That is a good chunk of what I need. It popped up the forwarded
message from my sent folder. I've forwarded that message from sent,
and with the sent message open in the view window, it didn't find the
next forwarded message, though.

Thanks for the tip!

Sorting office filter for GTD

2007-04-30 Thread Andrew Diederich
Hello Batfolk,

I'm trying to build a set of filters to better track emails I'm
waiting to get an answer back. I currently have a folder "@WAITING
FOR" that I copy things from my sent folder, or drag emails I've
forwarded to someone else to work on (delegated).

My idea is I'd put some text in the outgoing email, like "WF:true"
either near the signature, or in a header. This would trip an
outgoing filter and copy the item into my @WAITING FOR folder.

The next bit is harder -- to match incoming emails to existing emails
in my @WAITING FOR folder, say, on the subject line. Is there a way I
can match the subject line to a list of emails in a specific folder?

Or, maybe I do something different altogether, and put a ":WF" at the
end of my email subjects, and match on that, thinking people don't
usually change the subject lines of emails?

(If an incoming email matches the filter I'd change the color, or
something along those lines.)

Thanks for the help.

sorting office forward doesn't take a changed template

2007-04-20 Thread Andrew Diederich
Hello Batfolk,

I'm testing out a new mailserver (Zimbra) at work, so I've configured
sorting office in TB! to forward all messages sent to recipient (me@)
to forward to metest@, and then those get into the test mailserver.
The idea is so I can use the Zimbra mail client for a while to see how
other folks in the office will like it.

The issue I have is the forward doesn't allow me to change the
template. I deleted all the normal FWD template pieces in the rule,
but those changes are ignored. I've now realized I can setup a
redirect, but I think the inability to change the forward template for
the sorting office filter is a bug. Does that sound true?

2007-02-21 Thread Andrew Diederich

I've been running Voyager on a usb thumb drive since December, and
today suddenly it won't start up. I don't get any error messages, it
just does nothing after I double-click it. It should be about version
3.95.6, and I'm running XP pro.

I do have a few hundred MB free on the drive. The voyager process
gets stuck in task manager, and can't be killed. (Well, I try and
stop the process, but it never goes away.)

Is there a way to fix this, or get logs to identify the problem?

Voyager is a stand-alone email client. I got bit by that, too. It's
not meant to be TB when you're away, it's really a separate mailbase.
So, when I bought TB! to use at work, I just started using Voyager for
my home email.

Don't let the sync options in the menus fool you -- they don't work
(so says Ritlabs support). Or, they're really not for syncing between
TB! and Voyager, anyway.

The popular methods are using IMAP (leaving messages on the server),
POP (leaving messages on the server), or physically copying your
message files around.

I'm not entirely sure what that sync is intended for, but it is
certainly not for syncing between two Bat programs (like you'd sync
offline messages in outlook). I had tried syncing The Bat and Voyager
with that toolset, but it just isn't for that. TB Support said they
were working on a better sync in the future.

Check the CAs in your address book. Do they have the certificate in
the Certificates tab? If you've restored your address book they may
have disappeared. If they're gone you can recreate them. This is
what I did in Voyager:

-quit Voyager

Many anti-virus apps do many weird things to protect the Internet if
your box gets zombied. They put in a proxy on port 25, or restrict
what .exe files can send on port 25. The proxies on 25 yell when you
try to send TLS encrypted email since they can't scan for viruses.

It all really chafes my hide. A pain in the neck.

Good catch -- I always use base 64 encoded certs, so I hadn't tried
the der certs. While the address book info imports fine, it does not
actually import the certificate it grabbed the information from! You
have to find the entry in the address book it created, go to the
certificates tab, then import the certificate again. This time you
can use either ascii or binary certs.

I can't drag the cert into the Intermediate CA or Trusted Root CA
sections of the address book, since that just adds the cert to the
existing entry I happen to hit. If I File > Import... I get a popup

2006-08-14 Thread Andrew Diederich
I've just setup voyager to grab my gmail account. While this works, I
get SSL handshake errors because Google uses a self-signed
certificate. TB has greyed out buttons in the popup warning about
accepting the cert, but the buttons are greyed out. The box:

The server didn't provide a root certificate during the session, and there is
no corresponding root certificate in your address book.

This connection may not be secure. Please contact your server administrator.

Continue anyway?

View Certificate and Add to Trusted are both greyed out.

What I think happened is my Trusted Root CAs in my address book have
lost the certificates they had. I had tried out TB Home, but since I
owned a copy of Voyager I moved my home email account to it. When I
did a backup/restore to move over my mail and address book, I included
the CAs as well. (I use CAcert, which isn't included by default.)
This deleted the certs contained in the address book entries.

How do I recover the certificate CAs without reinstalling Voyager?

No, there is no sync. These are two independent email clients. You can
run them in parallel on the same computer, or you can run them on
different computers. The latter is what Voyager is meant for.

Ok, this was not clear to me.

For example, I have my private accounts on the Voyager but not on my
work computer. That's how I check my private mail in the office (don't
want those mails on the office computer).

This is a good idea. I may do this, too. I've been using the gmail
web interface but have always been frustrated by the lack of S/MIME
support. S/MIME is why I started looking at TB in the first place,
actually, since Opera does't have S/MIME support. I've already
purchased Pro, so own a copy of Voyager. Maybe I take the plunge and
move my personal email to Voyager. Worth thinking about.

Today I learned that there is also a Thunderbird Portable which also
runs on a USB stick, so I couldn't impress this new acquaintance much.
I didn't ask him whether that has a synchronise function, because I
don't miss that function.

Thunderbird just didn't turn my crank. I tried it for a while
(desktop version), but couldn't get too excited by it. I imagine most
people on this least are similar! :)

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hello Andrew,

Thank goodness I'm not the only one then. It's not at all clear as to
which version you synchronise from and to, is it? :-(

I logged a ticket with Ritlabs support. Short version: Synchronise is
depricated, doesn't work, will be replaced at some unknown date with
something better. There is no way of sync'ing between TB Pro and
Voyager except for a backup/restore between the two.

Another suggestion from support was to leave all the mail on the
server, and let Voyager and TB just manage it separately. They
suggested always BCC'ing myself so I'd get a copy of mail I sent, too.
Hmm, it'll duplicate sent mail on the sending client.

I hadn't seen this in the archives, so I'm including this for
posterity. Keywords: sync, syncing, synchronize, voyager, TB!

quick search erasing characters

2006-08-04 Thread Andrew Diederich

My quick search is erasing characters. In Pro, 3.80.06 I select a
message in the list. I then start typing in my search criteria, like
"windows". I see the word appearing in the quick search above the
message list, but then once I've stopped typing it erasing everything
but the first two letters, like "wi".

Has anyone else seen this, or know how to stop it?

HOWTO for syncing Voyager?

2006-08-04 Thread Andrew Diederich

I'm looking for a step-by-step set of instructions for how to sync
between The Bat! and Voyager. There is a rumor that the help files
describe it in detail
(http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/read.php?FID=4&TID=3177&MID=12829&phrase_id=1262411#message12829)
but in my .chm help files I can't find any mention of Voyager, and
syncing just has to do with IMAP.

I started with Tools > Synchronize... in TB, but outside of choosing
the files and address books, I can't figure out the three steps.
