Problem setting the Bat! to default mailto: client in Mozilla
G'day TBUDL Members, I recently installed Mozilla Mail (1.7.2) - previously just used the Mozilla Browser as a stand alone item. Now whenever I click on a mailto: link in the browser Mozilla Mail opens instead of The Bat! I have made sure the Mozilla Mail is NOT the default mail application in it's settings and have checked The Bat! Options/Preferences/Applications settings to ensure that it is set as the default mail client and that all the specific file types are associated with The Bat!. I have also reset The Bat! as the Simple MAPI Request handler but Mozilla still calls Mozilla Mail instead of The Bat!. I even tried setting Outlook Express as the default, and then resetting to The Bat! but still no change. I have a vague recollection that someone here shared a manual edit to Mozilla prefs.js file (I think) to force it to call The Bat! but I can't locate it in my saved useful information folder. Can anyone help? Any other solutions or suggestions also gratefully received. On an aside I quite like Mozilla Mail as a backup client (I hated the stand-alone Thunderbird variety) but it is certainly not as powerful or useable (for me) as The Bat!. I really miss the Connection Centre - if you blink you miss any problems with the collecting mail, and their implementation of a mail ticker - just a brief display of how many messages have been received - is so basic as to be a joke. I haven't tried its IMAP capabilities yet. -- Bob Mo®®is Tuesday, 14 September 2004 Using The Bat! v2.12.00 on Windows 98 4.10 Build B Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Mozilla 1.0, Default MailTo
Hi. You need to create a file called user.js and place it in your user profiles directory. In the file, add the line: user_pref(network.protocol-handler.external.mailto, true); That should start bat when you click on a mailto: link. On Wednesday, June 12, 2002, Paddy L wrote in [EMAIL PROTECTED]">mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]: PL Can't get Mozilla 1.0 to use TB! for default MailTo. Anyone using PL TB! with Mozilla? Paddy, Mozilla is set to use its own mailer for mailto: links, even if your Internet preferences specify a different program. In order to change that behavior, you have to change Mozilla's preferences. With Mozilla closed down (*very important*), add a line to your user.js file. If you don't have a user.js file, create one as a plain text file. It will be located in your profile directory, which on a Windows 98 platform if you haven't changed the default directories would be c:\windows\application data\mozilla\profiles\your_username\salted_directory_name. Insert the entire following line in the existing or new user.js file (with Mozilla closed down): user_pref(network.protocol-handler.external.mailto, true); Rebooting might not be necessary, but couldn't hurt. Disclaimer: I tried this and all h*** broke loose, but it's possible that I didn't have Mozilla closed down. I had to restore my prefs.js (a file which Moz writes based on its defaults and your user.js) from a prior backup. I haven't tried it again with Moz closed down, but it is reputed to work.
