I just used F7, searched my recipe folders for "chicken" and it came
back in about 5 seconds with 105 messages. I only searched the body, and
only for a one-word search.

I have never had luck searching for more than one word, but
the search mechanism works fine (through single or multiple

Before I upgrade to any new version, and at least monthly, I back up my
TB setup. I do this using Allie's backup program ( check the archive),
called tbbackup.bat. I will append MY version of that file here:

start tbbackup.bat
Echo
Echo * !! Updating Backup Archive of TB-Mail!! *
Echo * (C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\TB-Mail.rar)*
Echo

REM ;Path C:\Software\winrar

Path "C:\Program Files\winrar"
copy "C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\TB_Mail.rar" "C:\tmp\software\The
Bat!\TBBackup\TB_Mail_OLD.rar"
winrar a -u -as "C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\TB_Mail.rar" "C:\Program Files\The
Bat!\Mail"

REM;I backup to my server which has a nice Seagate Cheetah as its main
REM;drive.

REM;C:\Mail is my working mail directory. This should be
REM;"C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Mail" for most.

REM;The path before that defines the name and location of the rar archive
REM;you're backing up to. If one isn't there, it will just create one and
REM;do a full backup on the first go. After that, it simply analyses the
REM;archive and update only the changed files. This saves time and
REM;overhead.

REM;Use the winrar command switches as shown.

REM;a - create archive

REM;u - update an existing archive

REM;as - synchronise an existing archive with a target source
 REM;directory/file.

REM;The Echo part just suppresses all the stuff that will normally fill
REM;the console window when the cmd script is running and the announcement
REM;in the asterisk is put in it's place. Makes for a cleaner visual if I
REM;happen to be awake when it starts running.

REM;I do the same for the registry. I do it separately but you could do it
REM;all in one swoop (I guess I will shortly integrate the two. I don't
REM;know why I separated them in the first place). My TB! registry backup
REM;goes like this:

@Echo Off

Path=C:\Windows
copy "C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\tbreg.reg" "C:\tmp\software\The
Bat!\TBBackup\tbreg2.reg"
del "C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\tbreg.reg"
regedit /e "C:\tmp\software\The Bat!\TBBackup\tbreg.reg" hkey_current_user\software\rit

exit

;You could use WinRAR and the system scheduler to do unattended backups
;of many files and folders on your system. No need for 3rd party
;software. :-)

That may or may not be a factor, but for me the "crash on search"
started when I upgraded the executable to RC3 (I don't remember

I had that problem the very first time I upgraded, also from 2.01.3 to
2.04.4. I downgraded and upgraded several times and always with the same
result. As I reported in TBBeta, I finally downloaded 2.02.3 CE (which
is still availabe from Ritlabs web site, and upgraded to that and then
to v2.04.4 and it is working now without problems. So, as I see it,
there _is a problem when upgrading from some earlier versions, at least
from 2.01.3.

Probably it is true for some users. However for me it NEVER happened
so far (and for many other users also not). MAU was reporting that
problem. But after installing an older version and then again the
latest version it also was working for him. Up to now we couldn't find

This is very odd.

TB! normally upgrades an installation, taking the installation path
from the registry so that a prior installation is upgraded. I know
this since for a long time, I had TB! installed in a different
directory from the default and I never had to adjust the installation
path when upgrading.

Are you upgrading or are you uninstalling and then reinstalling each
time?

solves the problem with moving to 2.04 from versions earlier than

The second one is probably searching for "chicken " AND " soup".
Notice the spaces. The first one is just looking for the words.

So, the second one did not find the message containing "Make fresh
soup: Add chicken." while the first one did.
