As my sig hopefully shows I got v10.0.10 working. The only issue is it saw
duplicates (which really existed) in my address book, but the Bat! splash
screen hid the overwrite confirmation box and I had to keep using Task Manager
to get rid of the main splash screen to enable each confirmation. I deleted all
the duplicates in the end, and it has calmed down now :)

Only disappointment so far is that in my preferred threaded view mode the
interconnecting lines between messages have gone and are replaced by arrows and
unmarked indents. I do not suppose there's a way of getting the thread lines
back is there?

I have the message bases on my D: drive at D:\TB_Mail, and the basic TB! files
at C:\TheBat I installed V10 in the same C:\TheBat directory as the old one,
can I, once happy with V10, just delete the older files in there?

Thanks again.

My problem for a long time -- perhpa now solved -- is that I was
unable to post from my primary account (Verizon) and resorted to
sending mail to TBUDL from aGmail account. If my problem with the
Verizon account (actually forwarded from the University of
Pennsylvania to my Verizon account) still persists, I will just take
it on faith that my postings to TBUDL arrive and hope that my faith
will be confirmed by numerous posting to answer my question or to
offer help.

As for the question that I was asking about partial restores, I gave
up with the Help facility and just went ahead and invoked a restore. I
discovered that the restore is very granular, down to a single folder
within a single accout or the address book alone or, etc. So I did
manage to accomplish what I needed.

I have received it, and probably everybody else. Also the Test message
you sent from your other account.

That I know of, that is a Gmail peculiarity. It will not show as
'received' any message received from the list that YOU have sent from
the same account. What I do to avoid this is send my email to the list
through my ISP's server, even though I use my Gmail address in the From

Well something has changed. My posting came through to the list, but
my reproduced copy showed up in my Gmail account, not my primary
account, that happens to be on Verizon.

How can that be explained.

Meanwhile, my earlier posting that I had sent from my Gmail account

Hmmm. I may be misinterpreting your text when you say you "flag messages a lot".
Are you referring to the message flags which denote , or ? If so, these were not
the "flags" to which we were referring. The subject of the thread was the method
of displaying country flags in our sigs (or anywhere else for that matter) and I
don't see any country flags in your message. My USA flag should be appearing
immediately below my name in my sig.

I did notice that your cut mark wasn't working which caused me to examine mine
only to discover that mine had somehow been corrupted as well. I probably don't
have to remind you that the cut mark has to be . My
cut mark was missing the space, as is yours.

less strident pursuits) where I looked again at my TB! folder in Program Files.
It was only then, after not having looked at it for a while that I noticed that
the C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images\Rogues folder *contained* a folder called
Rogues, not the individual pictures. In other words the pictures were actually
located at C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images\Rogues\Rogues where TB! couldn't
find them. Temporarily moving the C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images\Rogues\Rogues
folder to my desktop, opening it and copying all the pictures to the clipboard
and then pasting them into the C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images\Rogues\ folder
solved the problem.

My most heartfelt appreciation to all who tried to help me solve this. I doubt

My settings reflect the fact that I like to read and compose/send
email in plaintext; therefore most of those settings are different to
mine - the sole exception being "Plain Text (MicroEd)" as the default
text editor.

I see the rogue image to the right of the message headers when viewing
(but not writing) a message. In TB v4.0.38, the setting to control
this is reached by right-clicking the message headers, hovering over
"Sender Photo" in the context menu, them making sure there is a tick
by "Display sender" and no tick by "Prefer photo from Address Book." I
think MAU already described this.

I just tried changing to your settings and have downloaded the
"pcwsmilies.zip" that MAU posted and extracted the contents to the
correct place. Nothing new happens before restarting The Bat! but
after doing so, I see your US flag in your signature, animated for
about ten seconds and then static.

I then went back to the options page and experimented before changing
back to my customary settings. Unsurprisingly, your flag no longer
shows if I remove the tick from "use smiley icons in HTML viewer" or
if I change the first setting back to "Plain Text Viewer (fast, no
graphical smileys)" or both. Your Rogue shows in the message headers
no matter what settings are selected in the options-preferences
dialogue, as long as the "Sender Photo" setting I referred to above is
correct.

My file/folder locations are a match to yours. The thing I'm most
confused/concerned about is the selections I've made at OPTIONS - PREFERENCES -
VIEWER/EDITOR. The selection choices don't make a lot of sense to me and I
believe this is where I might have screwed things up. The following link goes to
a screenshot of that window so you can see what's selected:
http://clip2net.com/s/1YT0n. If you're not familiar with clip2net, it's a free
program which allows you to select any part of your screen and post it to the
web (their server I presume) and gives you a link to allow others to see that
portion of your screen that you've posted.

If you choose to follow the link and view my selections you might see that they
differ from yours in some way that prevents me from seeing the rogue pictures.
If you choose not to follow the link for whatever reason I'll understand but
perhaps you might be able to clarify the differences between the selections.

I really appreciate your attempts to assist me but please don't spend time on
this that could be better spent doing something more important to you.

Actually, it does now (I just checked.) However, it did disappear when I

displayed once again. That'll be a project for another day.

Right now I'm more concerned that since I started that "Messages getting

Actually I had decided to replace the picture that's been in there for a few
years with something a little lighter. So the option to which you refer has been
ticked for quite some time. It states that pictures uploaded to the Rogues
gallery must be approved before they'll appear.

Gmail doesn't always return group messages. If they are in the "sent"
folder that is good enough for Gmail. I don't get my messages in some

The outbound in my 'sent' mail folder shows the message addressed to me,
which was, of course, my intent. There was no intention of spraying the

I was having a problem getting a copy of my messages to this list a month
or so ago when I noticed a further option on the membership configuration
page (at the bottom) labeled: "Avoid duplicate copies of messages?"

I checked No and the next message that I sent was received from the list.
This may have been a coincidence, but I left the option turned off since it
is much easier for me to delete a duplicate message than to read a missing
one!

There used to be an option to dictate where the autocomplete comes
from. I can't find it for looking.

However, what you say above doesn't resemble how it works. If you just
keep typing, TB lets you do so and refines the suggestion until it
runs out of matches. Perhaps it's just a matter of being shocked out
of continuing once a full name pops back. Any attempt to
(unnecessarily) reposition the edit caret to lose the blue marker will
have the appearance of "blocking" you, but it's as simple as "ignore
it and keep typing".

Please do a Google search on using Google mail for list messages.
Google extracts your own posts from the stream, "intelligently"
deciding you've already read it and don't need to see it again.

Your messages are getting though. No need to seed the lists with "can
you hear me" posts.

Batfolk,

I have been unable to post to this mailing list for *weeks* now. :-(
The list has taken a dislike to my anson.net.au domain and won't let
me post from it. I am hoping it will allow this one.
