Confirmed here. I'm sure this used to work in a previous version, but now
it appears to sort in ascending order by received date/time

The problem is how not to sort the message list, since you cannot (as far
as I can see) set no sorting.

The solution (which I can't claim credit for) is to sort by some field
which has the same value for all messages. Flagging might do, or
attachments, priority or unread messages. If nothing else works, display
the folder and sort on that.

Deleting Trash folder from an account?

2003-09-02 Thread Valery Kondakoff
Hello, people at tbudl-list!

I have set my accounts to delete all the unneeded mail to common
Trash folder instead of local Trash (Account - Properties - Mail
Management - Advanced - Deletion: 'Move to the specified folder' and
'Use alternative deletion method when purging').

Now I want to delete local Trash folders from every account because I
don't need them anymore. But this seems to be impossible.

Can anyone give me an idea: have can I delete local Trash folder from
 an account?

 Thank you!

Hi Sandy,
Please go to your trash folder and press ESC.
You should now see all msg´s in that folder. If you don´t see any this
means there are none.

Then right click on the trash folder and go to properties al the way a
the bottom.

You will get a window with options to keep msg´s in the folder for a
certain time or a certain qty of msg´s. Make sure you make a selection
here. Then also select at the bottom the "on exit" options you want.

Hope this helps.

For the common folders, just hit delete. The deleted messages will
end up in the common trash folder.

I do agree with you though that manual filters should be made to work
on common folder messages.

The only way to do this would be to create, for each account, a manual
filter that moves messages to the common trash folder. Assign the
filter a shortcut that triggers it (eg CTRL+Alt+T). After that,
whenever you wish to delete a message, hit the shortcut, instead of
delete.

Yes, there's a way.

You can use the common trash folder that's created in your common
folders area. The only way I can think of having it created is to
delete common folder messages.

In order to delete messages from account folders so that they move to
the common trash folder you then have to create a filter for each
account and assign the filter a shortcut. The filter action would be
to mark the message as read and move it to the common trash folder. To
delete a message, you just use the filter shortcut instead of the
delete key.

Trash folder: Incompatible options?!

2002-05-21 Thread Dierk Haasis

Hello TBUDL Members!

  Just found something curious:

There are two options in the folder properties that seem to be
incompatible - even mutually exclusive. I chose to leave
messages in message base for two days. At the same time I
checked to "Remove old messages" on exit (together with
   compressing).

Now, since I almost never have to come back to older messages (at
least on that account) I never thought about it until today, when I
needed some messages for Syafril. The messages, dated from today,
were deleted although there hadn't been two days gone.

Am I missing something? Shouldn't messages be removed on exit
  *after* two days have passed?

It wasn't me that originally asked... but I'm sure they'll be reading the

one nested inside each account). I think you have to right click on the

*That* I didn't know about. :-)

For those who haven't tried, what this does is to open the properties
panel for the common folders.

You don't have to focus on the common trash folder specifically to get
to the empty trash on exit option. Just focusing on any common folder
and going to the account properties option in the Account menu, or
just hitting Shift+Ctrl+P will do the same.

Hi Jonathan,

Finnaly found the common inbox and trash folder.
To set the "Empty trash on exit" place the focus on the trash folder
and go to account|properties|options. There it is :-)

I do not know if this is the best way, but it works. Right click on
the trash folder, select properties, check the following: Maximum (set

If you have a common folder... TB! generates a common trash can for it.
So anything deleted from your common folder(s) is put in the common trash,
instead of trying to guess an account trash can to put it in.

I thought there was a setting that allowed you to "Empty trash on exit",
and you didn't have to mark the age of messages. I think the setting
you're looking at is the "Keep messages for..." setting where it'll delete
them when the time you've had the message expires.

I am never sure what is meant by the common trash folder. I have 1 trash
folder per account and it has a special symbol as oppose to the standard
folder icon.

As for emptying the trash folder you should have the bottom to radio
box "Remove old Messages" marked (compress is optional).
You should then proceed to tell TB! what these old msg's are. In other
words you have to either mark the max number of msg's or the age of the
msg's. If you do neither TB! doesn't know what an "old" msg's is and
therefore can't remove it.

Hope this helps.

Common Trash Folder -- Emptying on Exit

2002-05-07 Thread mocha9mail

How do I get the program to empty the Common trash folder on exit?

In the Common Inbox-Known's properties, I checked "Empty Trash on
exit". But the Common trash folder is a folder separate from the
Common Inbox-known. Even if I drag the Common Trash to be a subfolder
of Common Inbox-known, it is still not emptyied on exit.

Also, in a previous message I stated that when I make the Common trash
folder to be a subfolder of Common Inbox-known, The Bat! does NOT put
the deleted messages there. Instead, it creates a NEW Common Trash
folder for those deleted messages. I asked whether there is a way to
get the program to use the trash subfolder instead of creating a new
Common trash folder. I had no response to that question. So I can
only assume there is none.

Thanks in advance

JM

In TheBat! 1.60h here are my pertinent settings:

Account | Properties | Mail management
  (*) Leave messages on server
[v] Delete message from server when it is removed from the Trash

Account | Properties | Options
  [ ] Check mailbox at start-up
  [v] Periodical checking each [3 ] [minutes ]
[v] Empty Trash folder on exit

When I deleted an e-mail to the Trash folder, exited and ran TheBat!
again, I was not waiting long enough for TheBat! to check e-mail based on
my time interval setting. If I had (or have) "Check mailbox at start-up"
feature selected, then TheBat! would have deleted the marked e-mails for
deletion on the mail server.

This feature is working in TheBat! 1.60h. I was just too impatient with
the almost correct TheBat! settings. :)

Thank you for your help and patience.

It will still be there since you didn't give TB! a chance to update
the server. It does this with each POP check. You need to do a mail
check *before* running the dispatcher to check the server to see if
the message was deleted.

It works just fine here.

Exactly, since it was deleted when you downloaded the 'test 2'
message.

Yes. It will be deleted when you perform the next regular POP check.

MK> If you exit and run TheBat! 1.60h again and again, the "Test 2"

This is because you haven't performed a POP check while doing all that
and it's the only time the messages get deleted.

MK> However, if you send a "Test 3" message, receive and delete the

There you go... You did a POP check to download 'Test 3', do 'Test 2'
is deleted in the process.

It's definitely working just fine at your end.

You can now go ahead and switch to TB! ;-)))

I just tried it and it works over here. I sent myself some messages
with your configuration. Checked the server. The messages were there
and marked as read. I deleted the messages and they were still there
on the server. I then deleted them from the trash, did a mail check so

I then tried it across a shutdown, and it also worked. Remember that

Update..

Steps to reproduce bug and delete messages from mail server:

1. Send an e-mail to yourself "Subject: Test 1".

2. Receive the "Subject: Test 1" message.

3. Delete the "Subject: Test 1" message to the Trash folder.

4. Exit TheBat! 1.60h.

5. Run TheBat! 1.60h. The message from the Trash folder is done. click
Account | Dispatch Mail On Server | All Messages and the "Test 1" message
is still there.

6. Send another test e-mail to your self "Subject: Test 2".

7. Receive the "Subject: Test 2" message. Delete it to the Trash folder.

8. Exit TheBat! 1.60h.

9. Run TheBat! 1.60h. Click Account | Dispatch Mail On Server | All
Messages and you will notice the "Test 1" message is no longer present on
the mail server and the "Test 2" message is still on the mail server and
marked for deletion. If you exit and run TheBat! 1.60h again and again,
the "Test 2" message remains marked for deletion on the mail server.

However, if you send a "Test 3" message, receive and delete the message,
then the "Test 2" message will get deleted from the mail server when it
has already been deleted from the Trash folder much earlier. This is
definitely a bug in TheBat! 1.60h. If this feature actually worked
correctly, this would be great.

If you want to delete the message(s) marked for deletion on the mail
server on the last exit, the next time you run TheBat! you will need to
manually delete them from the mail server through the Dispatch Mail On
Server | All Messages feature.

I wonder when RIT Labs will fix this bug. I am thinking about switching
over to TheBat! and this is one main feature I would like to use.

Deleted and removed Trash folder messages remain on mail server - bug?

2002-05-01 Thread Mark Knipfer

In TheBat! 1.60h I have the following settings:

Account | Properties | Mail management
  (*) Leave mesages on server
[v] Delete message from server when it is removed from the Trash

Account | Properties | Options
[v] Empty Trash folder on exit

When I delete an e-mail, the message goes to the Trash folder. When I
exit TheBat! 1.60h, all messages in the Trash folder get deleted. When I
run TheBat! 1.60h again, no messages appear in the Trash folder. However,
when I click Account | Dispatch Mail On Server | All Messages, I see the
message(s) on the mail server showing the Delete checkbox checked, but the
message(s) do not delete from the mail server. The message appear marked
for deletion and always remain there.

How can I get TheBat! 1.60h to remove these messages on the mail server
based on the above settings?

According to TheBat! 1.60h Help file:

  Mail management Settings

Delete message from server when it is removed from Trash - use
this option if you want your messages to be kept on the server
until you delete them and they are removed from the trash folder.

Good thing is to put e-mail addresses from friends as presented
alternatives as sender, so mails form your friends without your e-mail
in To: or CC: field well not to be processed with filter.

I assume then that in this case, you have a filter setup to filter
messages from yourself right? If you have filters setup to filter messages
from friends using their from address, then bcc'd messages from them will
not reach your spam filter. I'm referring to messages from an individual
or company, for which you haven't created a filter rule and who has bcc'd
a message to you. It will end up in your spam folder.

Exactly. One really shouldn't miss any real mail because of spam.

You'll find that ~98% of the messages are spam but the occasional
legitimate ends up there.

I also appreciate the use of "BCC" when friends want to include me in

Re[2]: sending spam to the trash folder

True! I can confirm this because I used to get a lot BCC-ed msgs from a *very
good* friend. Although sending like this can be "not polite", I do NOT blame
him. Why? Because, he also sometimes send msgs to other his friends that I don't
know or they don't know me, and I specifically noted him not to include
recipients in visible TO and CC fields. So, for me in this case, BCC field means
privacy.

Also, one good reason for sending BCC-ed msgs is that if you want to send one
msg to e.g. 10 recipients, that msg would be much shorter when comes to
recipient's mailbox.

I'd advise that you not ever set the spam to be deleted when using this
filtering method. The reason being that it's not only spam that comprises
messages that have not been addressed to you directly. A friend not in
your filters could BCC a message to you. A software company from which you
requested program updates may do so by sending you a BCC of the update
message. Of course there are other examples.

I created a spam folder and set it to delete messages more than 2 days old
and mark any messages filtered there as read. As a result of this the
folder never accumulates many messages, is self-maintaining (I set it to
compress on exit), messages are silently added, and I can check the folder
periodically for legitimate messages. For me, legitimate messages are
uncommon these days but I'd not want to lose a single legitimate message
because of spam. :-)

You can turn the mail ticker off for individual folders. Just
uncheck the Show mail ticker on unread messages in properties of the
  folder.

Send it to trash and "mark as read" at the same time.

Hello Dwight,

I'm sending Spam to the trash only temporarily - just to be sure that my
new Spam filter isn't trashing mail I actually might want. After I get
the filter ironed out a bit, I'll set it to "delete" instead of sending it
to the trash. I don't use the ticker much, so it's not necessary for me
to visit the trash to make it go away.

Trash Folder

2000-12-22 Thread Fusiontunes

Hello,
I use the "Bat" to check and retrieve messages
from my Yahoo mail account. It works great except
for 1 detail. All the messages that I delete from
the folders in the bat end up in my trash folder
in my Yahoo account. Yahoo treats these as stored
messages and after awhile it just cant hold
anymore. Is there a way to keep these deleted
messages from ending up in my Yahoo trash
folder..?
I do have it so that the bat deletes the messages
from the server after retrieval, but it dumps them
in the Yahoo trash folder anyway. Its not a BIG
deal but it is a pain to have go to my yahoo mail
account and empty the trash folder everyday..
I receive nearly 700 emails a day, and my trash
folder fills quickly.
I must be missing something.

Yes, have the mail marked read when filtering it to the trash. You'll
find that option in the sorting rules under Actions.

Disabling "New mail" sound for the Trash folder...?

2000-07-13 Thread Mark R Harding

Hi TBUDL,

Via filtering I direct certain messages directly into the Trash folder
just as I direct other messages, via other filters, into other
folders. For the other folders I can change or disable the 'new-mail'
sound that is player when an email is dropped directly into the
folder. However, I cannot seem to disable the new-mail sound for the
Trash folder - there being no appropriate menu tab on the folders
properties dialog.

Is there any way this can be achieved (besides filtering into another
'dummy' folder first of all) because I'd really like to switch this
off.

Cheers,

Mark
