That would be :

%SETPATTREGEXP="(?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))"%REGEXPMATCH="%HEADERS"

This will output the day and time which is probably best because if you
simply extract the time and use a TB! macro for the day, the day will be
corrected to your time zone and would be incorrect in some instances when
combined with the original time taken straight from the headers.

I don't know. Makes me wonder if bytes are added as a result of message
base formatting.

The size seen in the header pane seems to be calculated from the text
being displayed. There's probably more in the source text..

JM> Is this doable?

Yes, it's doable provided the client of the person sending the response
supports providing reference headers. Since TB! does this, I enjoy doing a
similar thing in that I colour code replies to my messages.

The way to do it is this is to have the filter rule look for and examine
the 'In-Reply-To:' header field, looking for messages with your e-mail
addresses domain. Of course, a pitfall here is that if you're a member of
a discussion list, for example TBUDL, and someone else using an e-mail
address with the same domain as your e-mail address gets a reply to one of
his messages. His message reply will also trigger your filter. So if you have
a unique domain name (like me ) then you're in business. However, if
you have a commonly used domain name then creating this filter may produce
'false alarms'.

The following filter should be one of the first in your filter list. In so
doing, all messages are checked by it.

Source: Inbox

Destination Folder: Inbox

String: ^in-reply-to.+@vpop\.net>$

Location: Kludges

Presence: Yes

Action: Play Sound (make your configuration changes as needed)

Options: Continue Processing with other filters (enable)
 Regular Expression (enable)

JM> Also, I notice sometimes when I am in thread mode, that certain
JM> messages don't get marked as "read", even if I select all messages in
JM> the folder and click "mark read". Has anyone else seen this?

The only way to select all messages in threaded mode is to fully expand
the threads. So you should do the following on the message list:

Hit Ctrl-*, then Ctrl-A, then Ctrl-M.

This is because of the design of the editor.

The reason why you can't reformat multiple paragraphs *at the same time*
while editing a message, is the same reason why you cannot do it with the
macro. Remember that it's the same editor's functionality that's being
invoked through the macro. This editor doesn't use soft returns *at all*.
Therefore, the only way to differentiate between two paragraphs is the
separation of the paragraphs by a blank line when doing reformats. If you
select all paragraphs *together* then the all paragraphs will be wrapped
into one huge paragraph. If you take this away, then you have to take away
the editors ability to reflow quoted material the way it does.

You may ask then, what's the use of the macro? Well, it's exceedingly
useful for wrapping text output comprising a single paragraph/line of text
such as introductions, disclaimers, cookies, etc.

At the folder or address book template level you can disable the name

The regex macro will not help because it will only process mail that is
already received for replies, forwarding etc.

What you wish to do is edit the headers of incoming messages. The only way
you'd be able to do this is to run an external program. A local POP server
with filtering abilities would do it. My local POP server gives me this
ability so I can do exactly what you wish with my setup by setting up a
filter.

Interesting. Something else is amiss then and I'm not sure what. :-(

TB! normally keeps track of what is downloaded and marks them for deletion
upon the next mail check. Are you having premature disconnections when
checking mail. This could cause the problem.

Ai> Did you tried to filter all messages to a single account's inbox?

Ai> It should do what you asked for...

Another way would be to use one of those freeware POP servers. Install it.
Create a local POP account, configure it to download mail from all those
remote POP accounts. Finally set up TB! to download mail from the local
POP account ... POP server - localhost, password - the one you configured.

Two freeware apps that come to mind include Mercury/32 and the other is
Hamster. Mercury is better since it has better documentation. It has a
relatively small memory footprint. See:

http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercwin.htm

If you use multiple POP accounts then you may also have problems with
sending messages using a single ISP SMTP server. Mercury will help you
here as well since it comes packaged with a fully functional SMTP server
module.

There are two disadvantages with filtering from one account to another.
One is that you'd have to still create accounts for each remote POP
account. The other is that the only way to filter to another account and
use the main accounts filters is to redirect the messages to the main
account. This will lead to message header adjustments. To prevent this
you'd have to create filters for each account and do the filtering from
each account directly to the main accounts folders.

Using a local POP server will prevent your having to create multiple
accounts in TB!. You'll have no problems with filtering and the messages
will be unaltered.

Be that as it may, the enigmatic version 2 of TB! is slated to have
multiple POP server support per account.

The advanced filtering may help in this regard. You can set TB! to display
only flagged messages.

Another tool is alt+left clicking on items in the message list. This will
lead to only entries with what you alt+clicked on will be displayed. So
you could alt+click on the flag of a flagged message and only flagged
messages will be displayed. This display will lock across folders so you
could then move to other folders which in turn will display only flagged
messages. You switch back to the complete list by hitting the escape key.

How about parked messages then or ones you've specially colour labelled?

If you forgot where the message is, this is where the search can also come
in. It will search in a folder, in a folder and it's sub-folders, a whole
account or all accounts. In the advanced tab of the search utility, you
can toggle on 'message is flagged' and it will search for only flagged
messages.

There are ways to deal with the problem without adding folder markers.

No, you're not breaking a list rule by mentioning the existence of betas
or RC's. :-))

We just don't encourage discussing bugs associated with them on TBUDL or
offering information on functionality that's only confined to beta's or
RC's on TBUDL without categorically stating so. We're just trying not to
create confusion as has happened in the past. Members will start thinking
that a bug/feature that's really in a beta is in the official release and
threads will develop into sub-threads dedicated to clarifying this sort of
confusion that may arise.

However, you're little mentioning of the latest RC of v1.53 was well
worded and perfectly welcome on this list.

Also fellow members ...

Just remember that if you choose to use this or any future RC's or betas,
which you're welcome to do, send all queries directly to Ritlabs; or even
better, join the TBBETA list where you can discuss issues that concern you
with other users and even the developers (they read and sometimes take
part in the discussions there).

This still sounds like a Windows problem since TB!, AFAIK, simply takes
the association from Windows and uses it. TB! opens ACDSee as it should
for me.

What flavour of Windows are you using? Indicating this information very
briefly in your signature can be very helpful.

Processor speed and memory have been mentioned but nothing about hard

dramatic improvement in how quickly TB! handled large message bases. I
don't really see a significant pause in the speed of folders being opened
until I exceed approximately 6000 messages in a folder where the access
time reaches about 2 seconds. With my old hard disk, it was tedious to
work with a folder containing such a large message base.

PM> Thanks Allie, it works quite fine here! :o))

I'm not the type to advise quick updates but this is one of them:

An important fix has also been released. It fixes a few bugs that most are
bound to encounter and it also packs an important enhancement to address
the deletion of auto-saved versions of cancelled messages:

[*] Prompt to keep the message when a new message was automatically saved
and then abandoned

[-] Bug when sending messages right from the editor when Autosave is
switched on (in versions before 1.52 it was producing additional drafts in
the Outbox folder)

[-] Right mouse button click on a filter was not selecting the clicked
filter

[-] Sending messages from all accounts did not bring the Connection Centre
in front

[-] The "Modified" indicator works better than in 1.53

You can download the update here:

  http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/beta.html

It's just an update of the executable (v1.53bis). So, after shutting down
TB!, simply decompress the archive directly into your TB! installation
directory, overwriting the older executable.

That's true. Beats me. It could be part and parcel of the buggy behaviour.

I wouldn't send the message again unless the recipient confirms no
receipt, especially since TB! took the expected time to post the message,
progress meter and all...

I would surmise that she's using the auto-save option and this would
explain the persistence of a copy of the message in the outbox, another
manifestation of the bug.

TF> I am greatly annoyed by this additional unwanted and unnecessary

Which additional query is that?

Auto-save creates a current draft of the message being edited at the
specified time interval. If you have 'immediate delivery' enabled and
choose to send, the message is simply sent and the draft deleted. If you
wish to cancel the message, then a popup appears asking if you wish to
delete the draft as well. This is new and appreciated since I hated having
to go and manually delete the draft.

The problem now seems to be with deferred deliveries. There are two ways
of deferring. You could hit Shift+F2 which works just fine, i.e., the
message is placed in the outbox and drafts removed, no prompts appearing.
However, if you use CTRL+Enter, pop-ups appear asking questions about
saving. Very inappropriate and buggy. This behaviour appeared after the
implemented wish that CTRL+Enter be made to obey the mode of delivery
defined in the account options. In fact, I didn't wish to save the message
but send it, so I said no to both queries and the message was deleted and
*not sent*!!

In TB! *save* and *save as draft* seem pretty synonymous. If I use CTRL+S
(save), the message is saved as a draft. Again confusing.

I fully agree.

CTRL+Enter was recently made to obey the delivery settings in the account
options. This probably started at that point. I deliver messages
immediately so upon hitting CTRL+Enter, I get no prompts. Shift+F2,
doesn't generate the prompts either.

The queries appear only when you try to send the message in a modified

message was auto-saved before you hit CTRL+Enter.

Firstly, you must have modified the message in some way for a draft to be
saved. I have never been able to get an autosave done on a message that
has never been modified.

The next thing is that it's strange that the prompt to delete the draft
didn't appear upon cancelling the message. The prompt didn't appear for
me.

Just now, I hit cancel for this message and the prompts appeared!! Go
figure. It makes me wonder if the prompts to save appear after a certain

Yes, TB! will send large attachments. Using Winzip to compress the PDF
file before sending would help save a lot on size to transfer. If the
recipient can't handle the zipped archive then she'll just have to send it
as is.

TB! has no problem with sending multiple megabyte attachments. However,
you have to ensure that the recipient has a POP account large enough to
accept the attachment you wish to send. Also, some ISP's place a limit on
the size message that their SMTP server will accept for transfer. I'm
quite sure this isn't 250KB though. :-)

If you need to send the file in chunks you can get a freeware file
splitter and split the file up in increments or you could use Winzip to
create incremented archives (I'm not absolutely sure that Winzip will do
this since I use 'WinRAR'). I doubt that you'll have to resort to this
though. About what size attachment are we dealing with here?

Ok. I had a look at the regex macro in his QT. I see that he has a space
that shouldn't be there.

His regex macro reads :

%Subject="Re: %SetPattRegExp=""(?i)\A\:?((\s*(re|aw|...
 ^
 note the space here.

When it should read:

%Subject="Re:%SetPattRegExp=""(?i)\A\:?((\s*(re|aw|

For some reason these regexs generate an extra space so I don't put a
space in front of them when using them. My personal subject cleaning regex
macro doesn't contain the space either and yet a space appears after the
'Re:' when the subject is generated. I think this is the likely source of
the problem and if he removes the space he should be able to use the QT
without problems. Why the extra space doesn't show up in *his* subject is
interesting.

When reading new mail in a list threaded by reference, you have to use the
'move to next unread message' keys. It will drill down into the threads
and subthreads to find the unread messages automatically. If you manually
expand the threads to find the unread ones then you'll have a massive
headache in no time. :-)

The recently implemented back browse shortcuts also help to navigate to
previously read messages in the session.

Go to Options/Preferences. The display connection center options are there
at the bottom. You can set it to automatically.

I did exactly what you did with about 5 entries and Netcaptor Pro handled
it just fine. Each page is opened one after the other as they should.

What's been happening to me and I don't know why is that when I hit a
mailto: link in Netcaptor Pro or an IE5.5 window (it really shouldn't
matter which since Netcaptor Pro is like an IE5.5 shell), a loop of some
sort develops where multiple IE windows appear one after the other, over
and over again. I cannot stop it until it 'burns itself out' and there are
now over 50 IE windows open on the desktop. I then kill IE via the

Actions: Add to address book

I use TB!'s editor with Forte' Agent, and also use it for some other
editing tasks. The reformat routines are done in such a way that I can use
Power Pro to create keyboard macros that make me able to do some
interesting formatting with a single macro shortcut. One example is the
ability to place the cursor in the middle of a quoted paragraph, hit my
macro shortcut (shift+del), which splits the paragraph into two parts
separated by three lines, reflowing both parts, and then leaving cursor at
the beginning of the second of the three lines separating the two
reformatted parts. I can then just type my comments. :-)

I looked at Becky's editor to try to create a similar ability. No go.
Forte' Agent's editor? .. forget it all manual labour. This is why OE
users will just quote the whole message and write the reply above the
quote. Too much work to make comments and reformat the quotes.

TM> Are you willing to share this?

Sure. However, you need PowerPro , or
some other macro utility installed. This is the macro in PowerPro format:

.{back}{en}{en}{en}{en}%l{up}{up}

Auto-format must be enabled for it to work. If you don't have auto-format
enabled, you could include instructions to enable it before executing the
above commands and then disabling it afterwards.

What the macro does is the following:

.{back}
Insert a 'period' (this could be any other character) and then delete it
by doing a backspace. This leads to a reflow of the paragraph if
auto-format is enabled.

{en}{en}{en}{en}
This splits up the paragraph so that they are separated by three blank
lines. The cursor will be at the beginning of the second part which needs
reflowing.

%l
This is the Alt+L command that will reflow the other part.

{up}{up}
This moves the cursor to where you'd wish to start typing between the
paragraphs.

PowerPro is freeware. It can make TB!'s editor quite powerful and
convenient to use. A friend of mine created a PowerPro macro to reflow the
entire text, multiple paragraphs and all. I don't use it so I ditched it
some time ago.

The editor may be quirky in places but it creates possibilities. Most
other editors in other mailers are more conventional but are devoid of
these possibilities. The formatting I produce with TB!'s editor quite
effortlessly would be really tedious in these other editors.

Did you change your screen resolution in and around the ticker problems.
If you change your screen resolution when the ticker is at the edge of the
screen, this could lead to loss of the ticker since it's now off the
screen and there's no means to retrieve it, except by going into the
registry and tinkering with the ticker position values.

installation to another machine, registry settings and all.

If you're problem is transient/sporadic, I'd look at an application
interaction as the culprit.

The autocompletion from history will give you the last entry matching the
string you typed. In the above case [EMAIL PROTECTED] Let's say you also
had [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] in your address book. CTRL-+
will insert these as possibilities. Between CTRL+ and CTRL-, you can
toggle your way through the various possibilities.

Just delete the TB! installation directory.

To be thorough, fire up the registry editor, look under HKey Current

If you need to create such a list toggle off autoformat (Shift-Ctrl-F) and
proceed. When you're done, turn back on auto-formatting.

It's a give and take for me. Great reflowing of quoted material, the free
caret interface, in return for occasionally toggling on and off
autoformatting.

If it's not made optional, as I see with some apps, please leave it as it

If you have only TB! installed, then you can delete the subkey

HKCU/Software/rit

If you have SecureBat! installed as well, then you'd have to delete the
subkey:

HKCU/Software/rit/The Bat!

since the SecureBat! registry entries are stored under:

HKCU/Software/rit/SecureBat!

TB! registry entries reside in only one location which makes it easy to
manually uninstall TB! completely.

For this to work you need to have cookies listed in the default location

that each account has its own settings and separate cookie file. The
cookies you get will therefore depend on which account you're message is

Another way is to create your shortcut by creating a manual filter rule,
define a shortcut for it and make the action to change the colour group to
what you wish. You can then change any message's colour group by selecting
the message and hitting the shortcut. The filter will only work in the
account it was created but you could copy it to other accounts.

Don't hold your breath on my looking it up , but it's interesting that

I've never had a ticker problem. It just keeps scrolling.

Let's see could it be a particular ticker configuration?

How do you view your ticker? What are the settings? I have mine in thin

Please be nice now.

Do you often download *RAR* archives on the internet? We've witnessed on
this list, complaints of problems with downloads from the Ritlabs servers
of RAR archives. All were done using Netscape at the time, and the problem
went away when another browser or ftp client was used. I remember this
clearly and it ain't gossip.

Count me inexperienced and under-exposed but I never knew about or had to
deal with RAR archives until over 4 years of computing. In fact, apart
from the ones I personally create, Ritlabs is the only commercial server
I've had to download them from and I download a lot of applications. We
cannot assume then that you routinely download RAR archives without
problems using Netscape.

Application interaction is my thinking on the matter. I've had application

I'm not saying that you should stop using any of your vital apps. I'm
saying that disabling or closing them systematically to see if one is
causing a problem interaction is all. Just in a effort to try to
illucidate the problem. The ones of particular interest would be the ones

Go into each accounts properties and go to 'Network' settings. Enable the
option 'Use account specific network settings' and select the dialup ISP
from there.

It changes the sender information, i.e., from name, from address and
reply-to address to that of the account you defined in the macro and also
sends the message via accounts outbox, using the SMTP server you defined
in the account.

I'm one of those. The address auto-completion is now a lot nicer since it
doesn't auto-complete names to list addresses as a side effect of putting
real names in front of list addresses. :-)

This may seem sill but I need to be sure because your problems are pretty
bizarre.

Where did you download that thebat.exe from? Was it a .rar file that you
downloaded or a file called the_bat.exe. The .rar archive doesn't contain
an installation program but a file thebat.exe which you need to manually
copy to the TB! installation directory, overwriting the old one in the
process. OTOH, the_bat.exe is a full installation file which you have to
run and go through the usual window prompts.

Yes. This is how Outlook users have been successfully migrating to TB!

With the use of filters, yes. However, you'd still have to create the
seven accounts you mentioned and you'll have to create filters for all the
accounts to move the messages to the desired folders in the main account
you wish to work. Not a very good solution if it involves so many
accounts.

The other options:

There are free services available that will forward mail for multiple
e-mail accounts to a single POP account where you can then download all
the messages from.

Another solution would be to run your own local mail server. It's not as
involved or overhead intensive as it sounds. I'd recommend it to anyone
who has to manage many remote POP accounts and wishes to funnel the
traffic to only one or two TB! accounts. You can then use the SMTP server
that comes with the mail server. One that I'd recommend is Mercury/32
because it's free, takes up little resources (~3MB of RAM) and would make
managing those accounts via a single TB! account a snap. TB!, with a local
server, would make a better solution for this purpose than any client out
there that supports personalities and multi-POP accounts.

Personally, I use MDaemon on my desktop machine here. It's excellent (more
feature rich), but it's not freeware and uses more resources.

There's one way of doing it without having to manually refilter or create
all the filters for each account.

You could use mail redirecting. For each account create a filter to
delete, as well as redirect all messages to the main account you wish to
manage all messages from. Also in "Options/Network & Administration"
enable 'allow local delivery'. When you do this all mail will be locally
redirected to the main account where the filters in the main account are
automatically applied as you desire. The disadvantage here is that the
message headers for each message will be stripped of a lot of their
original content. However, the main headers will be preserved so that you
can reply etc. as you normally would, the creation time headers etc also
being preserved. Upon experimentation I see that reference headers are
stripped as well which could present difficulties for threading by
references.

This brings up the question. Why do redirected messages have reference
headers stripped from them? I can understand the received headers being
stripped but not the reference headers.

Each accounts filters are stored in each accounts folder as account.srx.
You could copy the main accounts filter set to that of the other accounts
*after closing TB!* and then restarting TB!. Of course remember to backup
the srx files that you're overwriting in case you don't like what happens.

Just select the filter rule and hit CTRL+C or right click it and select
copy. You can then open the other accounts filter rule and paste it in by
using the same menu. However, AFAICS, you can only copy or move single
filter rules at a time. If you need to move entire filter sets, this will
therefore be tedious.

Closing TB! and copying over the account.srx files between accounts will
be more efficient.

Nothing. :-)

TB!'s GnuPG plugin is very basic and only allows signing, encrypting and
decrypting via the TB! interface. All the other administrative tasks have
to be done either via the CLI or using GnuPG Shell, the most commonly used
GnuPG front end for Windows.

We expect that with time, the TB! plugin for GnuPG will undergo further
development and enhancement.
