[Therion] Therion/XTherion mailing list hijacking by Mapiah

2021-11-15 Thread Rodrigo Severo via Therion
Dear list and specially Stacho and Martin,

With this last messages I believe it's fair to say that I might be hijacking
Therion/XTherion list to talk about Mapiah.

If/when you believe this is a problem, please let me know and I will implement
some alternative infrasctructure. I am not doing it already just because it
might be beneficial to involved with Therion to follow Mapiah development but
your take on this is authoritative. Please let me know if it's a problem.

Best regards,

Rodrigo

Re: [Therion] xtherion - Multiple background sketches

2021-06-22 Thread Bill Gee
Hi Olly -

Thanks for the hints! I was able to get several sketches combined in GIMP.
Looking at the result, it is very obvious that much more work is required in
the cave. There is a huge hole in the middle which has no detail at all.
There are missing walls in several places.

My plan now is to print the combined sketches on a piece of paper. The next
survey trip I will draw more on it. That will then become the background in
Therion.

The room is not so big as to be a problem in Therion. It would probably fit in
a bounding box 25 meters on a side. That is a large scrap, but I think it
should be no problem to draw. The two entrances to the room are well-defined,
so adding it to the map will be fairly easy.

I apologize myself for misunderstanding. For me to move an object in an
application on computer screen is always click or double click, hold and drag
that object. Sorry again.

When one uses xvi file which includes transparent rectangular grid and
centerline with stations and splay shots and it is on top of stack of sketches
and xvi files in scrap setup one may positioned correctly a sketch very easy,
because stations are visible both on xvi layer and on sketch. Double click with
right button on particular station on sketch, hold right button and drag mouse
you may move sketch to correct position.

Another possible way is to use windows with coordinates of lower bottom corner
of an object and change them manually. Correct coordinates you may read in
right lower corner of map editor window, where the coordinates of cursor are
showed.

And if one uses morphed sketches from xvi, they should fit with all stations on
that sketch. If one uses extra points splay shots should fit too.

Correct, jpg does not support transparency, so you must use png to have any
hope of achieving a transparent background to an image.

Bring up the Gimp "Layers" dialog (shortcut key is Ctrl+L) and you can
click on each layer and drag the "Opacity" slider to make them partly
transparent. Or you can change the mode on each layer to "Darken only"
and the result will be the darkest part of any layer, which is probably
what you're after (assuming your sketches are dark lines on a white
background).

Re: [Therion] xtherion - Multiple background sketches

2021-06-21 Thread Bill Gee
I finally figured out how to move the background images ...
"Double-right-click" is probably not an accurate description. Every time I did
a true double-click with the right (or alternate) mouse button, nothing
happened. The trick, which I discovered quite by accident, is that you must
hold down the right mouse button on the second click. Do a
click,click-and-hold. With that secret the background images can be moved
around. Getting them positioned correctly, though, is difficult without some
transparency.

I have a simple photo editor (Gwenview) but it can only crop a rectangle. It
also cannot set transparency. I think I will have to spend some time with
Gimp. I hauled it out this morning and figured out how to do a "lasso"
selection. It was actually fairly easy. I figured out how to import multiple
images, setting each one as a layer. Now I need to figure out how to set
transparency on each layer.

I wonder if Bruce's faint memory about setting transparency with an external
editor worked because of using PNG format? My own faint memory is that
xTherion uses different libraries to handle png and jpg files. Handling of
transparency is probably a feature of the image library rather than xTherion.

Tarquin mentioned using invisible walls. I have done that once when I mapped a
shelter cave. That cave (really more of an overhang) was 200 feet wide and
about 20 feet deep. I used an invisible wall to mark the cliff edge that was
the outer part.

For this purpose getting Therion to consider all of the room as "inside" would
be a challenge. I have had situation where joining two passages left a white
triangle in the center because Therion did not think that was part of the cave.
I have also done line end-point joins. Those are a real pain to keep
straight. They work find when done. In this case I will probably have to do
some of those to get the room joined to the rest of the cave.

The more I look at the sketches, the more I think we need another trip to this
room. I think what I will try to do is merge all the existing sketches, then
print them on a single piece of graph paper. Back at the cave I will add more
to that paper. Scan it and use it for the background.

Re: [Therion] xtherion - Multiple background sketches

2021-06-21 Thread Tarquin Wilton-Jones via Therion
> Doing a join on room sketches like this is probably not possible.

Well, it is. But it will be a bit of work. You draw scraps with
invisible walls (or any other line with -outline out) as their edges
where there is no real wall. Personally, I would use a border with
"-outline out -visibility off" to draw the boundaries between scraps.

Then use line joins to join each and every set of points to the related
points in the other scraps. I personally use "point crystal" on each
line point to work out where they end up, and move the crystals to make
the lines match fairly closely, then snap the line points to the crystal
locations so that when the "join" gets used, it lines up nicely with
minimal warping. Now the crystals can be deleted again.

This allows you to solve this issue in all cases, including a survey
that has to halt in the middle of a mega chamber due to lack of time, or
because a survey tool runs out of battery. It even works in cases where
your sketches are drawn in different scales (such as with old style
paper surveys).

I attached an example, showing a chamber with multiple scraps extending
into it. Each green spot is a linepoint which gets used in the "join"
for all scrap edge lines that it touches. This approach works well only
if each scrap will get a similar background colour, so perhaps not
useful for "colour by scrap".

The "join" command for a pair of lines looks like this:
join one_line_id:1 another_line_id:3 -smooth off

Hope I am not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs...

(The main difference between using "wall" lines and "border" or any
other lines, is that "wall" lines get used when performing scrap "join"
commands, and the others do not. As long as you are using line joins
instead of scrap joins, it won't matter which line types you use.)

Hope this helps.

[Therion] xtherion - Multiple background sketches

2021-06-21 Thread Bill Gee
A week ago we had two teams of surveyors working in some very tight side areas
of a cave. In the end we discovered that it was all one room. We came away
with at least five pages of sketch depicting various areas of the room. It is
probably not complete ...

Doing a join on room sketches like this is probably not possible. Some of the
sketches don't have any wall, and for two of them the wall is only along one
side. I think I need to some up with some way to do the whole room in one
scrap.

In this case the sketches are all the same scale (1 inch to ten feet), and I
rotated the scans so that north is the same direction on all of them.

In xtherion I see that multiple background images can be brought in to a single
th2 file. I tried it and did not immediately see what I want. So my questions
to the group ...

1) Is there a way to drag/drop reposition a background image?

2) Is there a way to make images transparent? I tried fiddling with the gamma
slider but it did not do anything for transparency.

3) Is there a way to crop off arbitrary sections of a background image? Some
of the sketch pages also have cross-sections, and those will seriously confuse
things when trying to place objects. I would like to crop them out.

4) Is this something that I need to do in an external image editor like Gimp?
I have not used Gimp in several years. The learning curve is daunting.

Thanks!

It works in cases the sketches are not in scale too. I use it from time to

Although I put together that wiki page, I had forgotten this possibility, don’t

Thanks for your replies Paul, Alastair and Axel,

I was hoping to draw out discussion on basic image manipulation functions in
XTherion and maybe to inspire someone to work on developing those. Maybe I
have been successful but it is far too soon to tell.

Paul, yes, scale and rotation control both for XTherion background images and
exported map-images would be great.

Alistair, Paul, my reason for wanting similar sized (scales) images in my th2
file was not so much to join them for the purposes of contiguous scrap drawing,
but to avoid the need to zoom in or out when moving from one scrap to another.
It also allows copying (with a text editor) drawing objects, then using
Xtherion to move one of them from one scrap to another – useful for coincident
lines on adjacent scrap boundaries and other things. Most of the time I avoid
joining up background images, as for me Therion’s superpower is allowing the
user to work on small easily manageable bits of information, then joining them
up at compilation time.

Axel. Yes, the Inkscape Plugin. I was excited about this when Thomas first
posted it. I managed to parse a th2 file to InkScape, but then I was so lost
that I got no further. Could not parse the th2 file back out to Therion, so I
gave up at that point. I recognise the potential, but I am lacking knowledge
and experience in the basics of image manipulation software. Maybe one day I
will learn how to use Inkscape, Illustrator, GIMP, CoralDraw etc…

I managed to enlarge my png image 3.5 x while reducing it from 600 kB to 500 kB
using more or less default export settings in GIMP), so my miserly tendencies
are satiated for now.

I am working on my next question now…

Mōrena

I am wondering if XTherion can scale background images, or if anyone has hints
on scanned image settings that generate a larger background image, that is
economical on bytes?

Back story:

I created a multi-level survey (shaft system in cave) with PocketTopo, rather
than creating many small survey files to keep each level separate.

At home I printed the PocketTopo bitmap, then sketched over three of the four
main levels that I now want to draw with Therion.

Then I created an xvi with TopParser (I chose my usual export settings, and of
course maybe I could have chosen better settings).

You can see the xvi and some drawing directly on that xvi in the image below.

You can also see the three 100 dpi png background images that I imported into
XTherion.

The three images are much smaller than the xvi and while it so happens the zoom
range is such in XTherion that I could easily draw my scraps over them, I would
like all four scrap background to be a similar size. It just makes life easier
into the future that way.

I am a novice when it comes to bitmap manipulation, but I managed to use GIMP
to scale up one of the images about 3.5 times. You can also see that in the
image below. It is about the same size as the xvi which is what I am after

My frustration is that the original png images are all about 600 kB and the
enlarged image is about 3000 kB. I am a miser and I would like to minimise
bloat in my project repository.

Can we scale the image in XTherion, using the original smaller file as the
permanent source?

Or are there tricks to enlarging the png image while maintaining a modest file
size?

I am aware that jpg will likely compress to fewer bytes, and will try that
unless it becomes too blurry.

It looks like XTherion th2 file header has some unused controls. I could not
find any documentation on this, so I have deduced the format as follows…

##XTHERION## xth_me_image_insert {x coord visibility[0=off, 1=on] gamma} {y
coord {}} filename and path {<
unknown empty variable >}

Maybe there is scope for scaling and rotation of images by XTherion in here? !!

Sample of th2 file header

It's used in the blood alcohol calculator which xtherion slightly oddly
includes (see the "Help" menu).

It's something like the rate at which alcohol decreases in the
bloodstream. It's probably not critical to translate it.

Xavier,

You are right, saving the JPG file with Windows file viewer makes the JPG file
compatible with Windows XTherion.

The problem is with the use of the "Progressive" JPEG option in GIMP.
Even in GIMP, if you save the JPEG file without the "Progressive"
option, the JPEG file became readable by Windows XTherion.

But the error message is really cryptic:

invalid name command "ÿØÿà

Who would think this is about an unsupported option when saving the JPEG file ;)

This is due to the jpeg version of the image. It happened to me when I

But editing and saving the image with the windows 7 image visualization

2017-02-26 Thread Vasily Vl. Suhachev via Therion

Hello

I fix this issue at Vladimir repo. I try to make PR to main repo soon

23.02.2017 22:02, Rodrigo Severo via Therion пишет:

Hi,

I can't make any of xtherion's "Edit line" contextual menu options to
work. When I right click on a line point and choose some of the "Edit
line" submenu options nothing happens: no error, no change on the
line, just the menu disappears.

I have being trying to debug this for a while now. It's true that I
spent more time learning Tcl/Tk than actually debuging but that's not
that relevant ;)

If I use the "Edit line" button menu on the right pane everything
works as expected.

I already found out that this menu's definition starts at me.tcl line
2102 and that it's attached to the contextual menu at me_cmds.tcl line
3414.

I also found out that the actual command defined for each of "Edit
line" menu isn't called at all when activated through the contextual
menu. They are called just fine when they are activated from the side
panel button menu.

Any help? Suggestions? Pointers?

Thanks in advance,

Rodrigo

It would be nice to know if it affects Mac.

I want to set up a dynamic debugging structure to try to further debug this
issue. Any suggestions?

Right. I see what you mean. I can reproduce that.

It does work if you use the keyboard to select the item, rather than
clicking with the mouse, so I think the issue is actually the click
getting lost. No idea why that should be.

I've created a bug report to stop it getting lost:

Hmmm I was not trying those options. You are right - they do not work
for me from the right-click context menu. I can change the line type, set it
to reverse, do "outline in". But I cannot insert or delete points, or split
the line.

I checked the context menu on some points too. Everything I tried there
works.

Just to understand, all options of the "Edit line" contextual menu for a
line point worked just the same as if you called these same options from
the button menu on the right panel?

   - Insert point
   - Delete point
   - Split line
   - Trace line
   - Convert to curve
   - Simplify

Is that it?

Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04. Both with Debian package 5.3.16.

Ubuntu 16.04 with compiled version from github yesterday.

Yes, I've had this problem too. I meant to report it or investigate

I'd be very happy if it got fixed :)

[Therion] xtherion: "Edit line" contextual menu for line points doesn't work

2017-02-23 Thread Rodrigo Severo via Therion
Hi,

I can't make any of xtherion's "Edit line" contextual menu options to work.
When I right click on a line point and choose some of the "Edit line"
submenu options nothing happens: no error, no change on the line, just the
menu disappears.

I have being trying to debug this for a while now. It's true that I spent
more time learning Tcl/Tk than actually debuging but that's not that
relevant ;)

If I use the "Edit line" button menu on the right pane everything works as
expected.

I already found out that this menu's definition starts at me.tcl line 2102
and that it's attached to the contextual menu at me_cmds.tcl line 3414.

I also found out that the actual command defined for each of "Edit line"
menu isn't called at all when activated through the contextual menu. They
are called just fine when they are activated from the side panel button
menu.

Any help? Suggestions? Pointers?

Thanks in advance,

Rodrigo

[Therion] XTherion: Line simplification

2016-04-06 Thread Владимир Георгиев
In most cases it does, but if the points in a line are too many it still
leaves more points than I would like. And some remaining points are still
very close together because the line segment had some micro-curves that the
Bezier lines tries to preserve.
In other cases "Conver to curve" doesn't work and does nothing, but I
haven't checked the code to see why.

Sometimes I just need a simple "rougher" line without curves so I added
this option.

[Therion] XTherion: Line simplification

2016-04-06 Thread Владимир Георгиев
Hi guys

There was one option I was missing in XTherion to reduce the number of
points in a line.
I work mostly with Topodroid and depending on the settings while drawing,
in some cases I end up with lines with hundreds of points. This makes them
harder to edit, enlarges the TH2 file and slows the compilation.

I added a menu Edit line > Simplify line that reduces the points. There is
also a setting in xtherion.ini called "xth(gui,me,line,simp_limit)" that
controls how smooth/rough the line becomes. A value of 10 seemed to work
well for me.
One limitation is that Bezier lines become simple lines.

I've attached a few screenshots, the patch file, and the xtherion.tcl file.
Would be nice is someone can test how it works with their scraps.

It looks there is a problem with this modification, because mouse right button

There was a bug resulting from my changes. The new stations are triangular,
while the other points oval, and changing the type of point resulted in
improper drawing or a crash.
Here is a crude fix for it.

Confirmed with a quick test that I could reproduce that problem with the
old version, and that I don't see the issue with this latest compiled .tcl
file. I'm trying this out for some drawing up so I'll let you know whether
I find any other issues.

Now that you mentioned it, my git client replaces Unix with Win line

Well, in general I think a VCS would be nice, but it's up to you or the
authors or whoever else maintains the code. There are many public free
services like github, etc. I currently placed it in a private git on
Assembla. Can make a public one too.

OK. You changed what I think is the default line size too

Not very important. I changed the line point, and Bezier

line control point sizes. Actually they were already available in the Ini
file before my changes, but I haven't noticed them.
I'll see if there is a wiki about the xtherion.ini settings. If not I will
see if I can make one about some of them.

Don't know that you mean by "dosify" :)
Indeed there was some whitespace in most of the files. I didn't remove it
exactly to avoid making a large patch/commit.

About building the packages, I actually tried building xtherion only, not
the whole Therion. But I suppose that xtherion should not affect the rest
of the build process.

Yes, the colors could use some tweaking depending on how people use the map
editor. And likely on their monitor.
I work mostly with Topodroid, which exports a Therion drawing directly and
I don't have an image at the background. But still some editing is needed
usually with Therion.

Adding the orientation should not be a problem. It can probably either show
the arrows all the time without needing to select the points, or show
something smaller. I'll check it in a few days.

Changed all the lineends from 0x0A (unix linefeeds) to 0x0D,0x0A (DOS
linefeeds) (which makes every line different). Normally this is a
problem with editors silently converting your files, but sometimes
also VCSes. Not helped by the fact that some files from upstream are
'mixed line-ends', which can confuse editors.

> Indeed there was some whitespace in most of the files. I didn't remove it

Right, but you (well, your editor, no doubt) added some more :-)

The debian package has a huge whitespace patch to fix this irritation,
but Stacho has not merged it upstream yet :-(

No, it's not your fault. I recall this being an issue already. Therion
build-depends on itself, so it builds OK if it's already installed on the
build machine (and the library catalogue hasn't changed between what's
installed and what's building), but not in a clean environment. Which
means I don't understand how the current debian builds are building at
all (because they should be done in just such an environement)

I was going to fix it properly by generating the catalogue in a less
crufty way, but have clearly not got round to it.

It didn't. Therion tries to run itself to build the librarydata file
(which will never work in a cross-build and is a bad plan) and it's
not working in a normal clean build either right now. I'm not sure why
that's now failing (builds used to work). And I'm off on hols for 3
weeks in a mo, so this will have to wait. Sorry.

I've taken a quick look, and this is really (REALLY!) useful. Just messed
with the colours, not the other enhancements. I already changed the colour
of rock lines from snow4 to yellow by editing (and uncommenting) that line
in the ini file. I could not tell my rock lines from my survey lines
rendered in the background sketch imported from PocketTopo. Some of the
other colours are maybe a little too dark so I will experiment more to
brighten them up and see what I think works best as I am sketching.

The triangles for station points have another advantage over just changing
their colour. I can now see the black circles for the stations positions in
the background sketch imported from PocketTopo. Previously the blue circles
of the stations points completely hid the black circles they were placed on
top of.

If you could add something to the points which have an orientation set to
show the orientation (without having to select them as currently) that
would be another step forwards.

Great stuff, thank you!

But I want to know:

If I want to use this advantage must I only copy the changes in die INI.file?
But in witch INI-File?

Please do a look to the attachment. There are 4 INI-Files in my directory.

And then simply added that to the end of the file? And I think without the CR

Hi all

There are some modifications that I made to the XTherion and would be
interested if someone can test them and share their opinion. They were quickly
patched up and I am no TCL developer so there might be a bug or two.

Initially I needed to have an XTherion shortcut to delete a line point so I
started looking through the source. I added Ctrl+Shift+D for deleting a line
point, Ctrl+Up/Down for zooming in and out in the map editor.

The all blue items in the map editor were harder to use so I tried to colorize
them. E.g. walls to be "brick red", pits are magenta, rock borders dark gray,
slope is yellow, etc. The non-selected scrap is light gray.
The station point I made orange and a triangle instead of a circle so it is
more visible.

I will probably add other colors after I work with the editor more.

I have attached a couple of screenshots of how it looks, the xtherion source
and the "compiled" xtherion tcl app.

Btw, where does the source live, besides the zip archive on the site? Is there
a source control repo somewhere that people can contribute to?

For experimenting with the colors I used a private git repo. I admit I haven't
checked the licensing for the code.

Here are the colors that I changed and added them to the INI file.

#set xth(gui,me,activefill) red
#set xth(gui,me,pasivefill) green
#set xth(gui,me,controlfill) blue
#set xth(gui,me,highlightfill) cyan
#set xth(gui,me,unselectedfill) lightgray
#set xth(gui,me,wallcolor) brown
#set xth(gui,me,pitcolor) magenta
#set xth(gui,me,slopecolor) gold
#set xth(gui,me,rockcolor) snow4
#set xth(gui,me,bordercolor) turquoise
#set xth(gui,me,stationcolor) darkorange

Best

I am having difficultly with user defined areas in the Map Editor (v.
5.3.14)

When I want to draw a user defined line (eg. u:divingline), I just enter
u:divingline in the 'type' box of the Lines section and it works fine.

When I try to draw a user-defined area (eg. u:lake), I enter u:lake in
the 'type' box it automatically fills in the 'options' box with -subtype
lake. I can't seem to find any way of entering a user-defined area in
the Map Editor such that it appears correctly in the text of the .th2
file as 'area u:lake'

I can correct it by manually editing the .th2 file in the text editor
and it works fine, but whenever I open and then save the .th2 file again
in the map editor it reverts to 'u -subtype lake'.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards,

Steve Clark

Thanks for doing that. I tested here with 5.3.11-2 and it had this
issue Marco noticed. I applied the above patch and built 5.3.11-3 and
that does indeed fix it.

Is there any reason why this might break anything? Should I just
upload it to unstable?

Hello all,

I look for why there is different between linux and windows, it seems
on linux, tcltk add extension at the end of the name if there is not a
"." on the name.

A sample example bellow : open an openbox without xhterion element, it
works on test2 only

 package require Tk

  set types {
  {{Therion files}   {.th}}
  {{2D therion files}   {.th2}}
  {{All files}   {*}}
  }
#Test 1 => KO on linux
#set filename [tk_getOpenFile -filetypes $types -defaultextension {.th}]

#test 2 => OK on linux
set filename [tk_getOpenFile -filetypes $types]

puts "I found $filename"

The documentation is not really clear about defaultextension option on
tk_getOpenFile
I wrote the patch bellow :

--- therion/xtherion/te.tcl
+++ therion/xtherion/te.tcl
@@ -649,11 +649,12 @@
   global xth

   if {$dialogid} {

+ -initialdir $xth(gui,initdir) ]

   if {[string length $fname] == 0} {

I recompiled Therion 5.3.10 and crashes disappeared. Therion from the

Please provide some more details. Which version of therion did you
install. What sort of 'not work'? The gui doesn't start? You can't run
therion from the command line? Loch/therion-viewer doesn't work?

It would also be good to file a bug on launchpad using the

Therion runs fine on my work machine, which is Ubuntu Precise (12.04)

I have not upgraded my ubuntu machine to quantal (12.10), which is
presumably what you means by 'Ubuntu 12' above? So I've not tried it,
but I'd be surprised if it didn't work at all.

[Therion] xtherion crashes with tcl8.4

2012-07-03 Thread Wookey
I've just discovered that xtherion only actually works with tk8.5,
not tk8.4. Is that expected? If you only have tk8.4 installed it dies
with a segfault whilst loading fonts during startup.

If the authors don't expect it to work with tk8.4 then that's fair
enough but I need to change the dependencies so people don't end up
trying to use it. Alternatively I can provide details of the crash so
we can make sure it _does_ work with 8.4.

[Therion] xtherion trace line, convert to curve

2012-06-08 Thread Bruce
Thanks Stacho

All these years I've been tracing cave outlines by hand!

However on trying it out it seems to be quite fussy, or a least there is a
knack I don't yet have.

PocketTopo sketches don't work, in fact any scan with thin lines seems not
to work.

I had partial success with fat lines scanned at a low resolution (line width
about 1.5 pixels) only when zoomed in to 400%.

Generally it does between 0 and 5 extra points then stops, sometimes with
the last point at an acute angle to the general trend of the line.

So am I right in guessing that this will work best for reasonably fat well
lined drawings? (your example line looks about 4-5 pixels wide)

I needed it to convert raster surface contours to vector data, to be able to
generate 3D model.

You need to load a background image. Then - on a raster line - add first two
points of line, their distance defines tracing step. Like this:

Inline images 2

Then click continue tracing and this is the result.

Inline images 3

You can then convert this line to bezier curve.

It worked nice if there is really black, contrast and smooth line. There are
problems if line is grayish or there is acute angle as you mentioned. It is
interactive work - add few points manually, stop tracing and delete several
points, check and edit points after converting to curve, ...

2012-06-08 Thread Stacho Mudrak
It worked well to digitize contours on a topographical map - the reason why
I wrote this code, but for muddy cave sketches, it was completely useless.
This was the reason, why I gave it.

And I do not think that digitizing pocket-topo sketches is a good idea,
when pocket topo is vector already. May be a feature, that selectively
converts pocket topo sketch line to therion line would be better, but I do
not think so. When tracing these sketches, I usually do really a lot of
smoothing.

Are there any instructions regarding Xtherion's 'trace line' and 'convert to
curve' line editing features?

I expect there are - just cannot find them.

The 'convert to curve' seems to take a line with straight segments and
converts it to a smooth curve, so perhaps not so complicated.

I have not been able to get any useful insights after playing with 'trace
line', except that it adds two buttons to the interface.

in thbook it says that a data line can have one of the two format above.
maybe i missed the spot where it says that the first point of a
line can be only in the first format.

not sure if thbook says it, but seems that in the sequence
  ... PT1
  CP1 CP2 PT2
  ...
in the piece of curve between P1 and P2, CP1 is the control point
on the side of P1 and CP2 that on the side of P2.

anyways thbook states what therion does, so it's up to the
implementation of therion.

i tested with 5.3.8:
it seems that therion implementation accept the first line
point in the second format, but it ignores the two control points.
this is enough for my needs at the moment.

the line option "-close on" specifis that a line is closed.

when exporting maps, therion properly closes a line with

if i check it, xtherion add a point to the line with the

Well, I understand your confusion, the problem is, that this behavior
is because of program design:

If you hit Ctrl+L or Ctrl+A, an object is immediately created and
therefore you can edit types or options.

If you hit Ctrl+P, no object is created - you are just switched to the
point insertion mode. Point is created after you click on the
position.

I see just one solution to your problem. When you switch to point
insertion mode, point dialog will be enabled and changes you have made
to this dialog will be applied to the first point inserted. Would it
help you?

Using Windows XP MCE 2005, and my colleague(s) have been using older (I
presume) versions of Windows.

Sorry for the very late answer, but I was able to test your problems
only yesterday.
I have tried to reproduce your bug, but without success :(

I have tried on both XP and Vista Windows OS, but insert image worked
without problems. Is there anybody else who also observes this
problem?

Are you able to try it on different machine? May be it is some local
setting of your machine. Could you please try to uninstall your old
therion and install new 5.2 version again? If it will not help - then
I will have to write some debugging script to see, where exactly in
the code this problem occurs.

[Therion] XTherion - Insert Image problem

2008-08-02 Thread Duncan Collis
Hi, having a spot of bother with XTherion.

I'm using the latest developers snapshot on Win XP, and have the
following problem:

Using the 'Insert Image' menu item, when I select an image file, I
always get an error message:

couldn't read file "": no such file or directory

Where is the path and filename I chose...

...well almost. Backslashes turn into forwardslashes, and there is
always a character missing, so if I chose:
C:\images\file.png

I will see:
C:/mages/file.png

This used to work OK (within the past 12 months). I haven't had any
need to insert any images of late (I already had several to trace), so
I'm not sure when it stopped working.

Duncan.

I am looking forward :)

Not yet. I will add new option to xtherion.ini file in next release. But you
can disable it very easily. Just comment out line 3293 in xtherion.tcl script.

Change
xth_ivc
to
# xth_ivc

and it should connect no more.

Which TeX distribution do you have installed?

It looks, that therion is not able to run metapost. Are you able to run "mpost"
from command line?
