Profound apologies for the delay. I've been dealing with some serious
health issues that sidetracked me for a while, but I'm feeling
somewhat better and have more energy now, so I'm back to work on
updates to TiddlyWiki Classic...

I've just made another update to the BETA for TiddlyWiki Classic 2.8.1
(now BETA 2) in order to correct a problem in TW280 with the
calculation of 'useJavaSaver' and 'readOnly' flags. When viewing the
beta *on-line*, you should no longer see a warning about loading Java,
and the document should default to read-only (i.e., you should see
view instead of edit in the tiddler toolbar commands).

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Because the previously posted beta changes are on the 'critical path'
for some users and the newest beta fix is relatively simple (though
still important), I intend to promote this build to full release THIS
WEEKEND. If you have any concerns, please test this BETA 2 version
ASAP and report any problems to me immediately.

Excellent, I'll release a new tiddlywebwiki as soon as that happens.

Thanks for the link, Jeremy. Java is installed. I quit Safari and restarted.
Still not able to save. TiddlySaver.jar is in the folder with the TWs.

 the TWs.

Hmm, I'm not sure what to suggest - do other Java applets work for you in
Safari? If not, I guess you're looking at some Java configuration issue. If
you can run other applets then there might be something we can track down,

Best wishes

Jeremy

Hmm. Don't have or run any applets that I know of.

Would rebooting resolve it? I'll give it a try.

page:

 www.java.com/testjava/

I did all the tests recommended there, including reverting to Java 6, and
deactivating it and reinstalling Java 7. Still unable to save.

And what about other Java applets, do they run?

Cheers

Re: [tw] Not able to save with Safari

2013-06-20 Thread Jeremy Ruston

Again, don't know that I have any applets. One indicator of the situation.
When you open the page at the link above you're supposed to be able to see
your machine information. I cannot. And did everything the recommended in
 that case. Still no go.

Applets are a special type of widget that can be embedded in a webpage. To
test whether your browser supports applets you just need to visit a page
containing an applet. The test page you tried contains an applet, and from
your description the applet is not loading.

Therefore the problem you've got at the moment is that Java isn't working,
which is a bigger, broader problem than just TW not working. It's also
easier to fix - many people do still run Java for many reasons, and so we
can be confident that it can be made to work on your machine.

Doing a bit of googling, something obvious that might be worth checking:
check that Safari Preferences Security Enable Java is turned on.

Best wishes

Jeremy
