2017-10-27 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao PMario

Small tech comment on the minor sound issue that TonyM wrote about.
Auto-on-off gates are more trouble than they are worth. In my experience
the single biggest issue is the quality of the microphone and its
type--some are much better for this type of thing. If you are going to do a
lot of this type of recording its perhaps worth buying one. A mid level
effective way is to record sound using a dedicated recording device
separate from computer and sync the sound later. But that's likely more
hassle and cost than you need. I would look at mike types though. If you
need info on options you can send me a private message.

[tw] Re: Can I use Alain Dutech's comptext editor within the Edit-Text Widget?

2017-10-27 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Jan

I'm just hopping in here as I seen you sent this message twice. I can't
answer the question since I don't know that plugin or how it works. But I
was interested by how your screenwriter is shaping-up. Its looking good.

Am I right in thinking that from within the script you want links to each
character? Meaning: every dialogue "CHARACTER" is linked to a Tiddler for
that character?

In my own playing I'm looking at automating links to tiddlers for all
characters and main scene headings (INT / EXT etc.) using regular
expressions without having to manually do anything. I'm slow, but hope to
get something workable fairly soon that may be relevant?

Best wishes
Josiah

I know the link is to an old thread and that the plugin was opdated later
on to work with the editor toolbar. You cannot use Edit-text widget. Tobias

Re: [tw] Re: Testers needed for TiddlyServer

2017-10-27 Thread Arlen Beiler
The backup feature could probably be better described as a complete version
history. I can disable e-tags if someone is using backups and they won't
lose anything.

The other option is to add a setting that would allow you to set a time
window within which an e-tag is valid. So if most of your e-tags are off by
one second, you can set a window of five seconds and a request with an Etag
that is within 5 seconds of the modified time will get saved.

(2) backup is very appropriately handled by Backup Programs. The good ones

Right. I think that is more accurate and alerts users its advisable to do
"redundant backup" too. Its just basic when you invest effort into projects
to do that. The what-is-ness of conventional backup to a different
location/disk has merit that IMO constantly needs emphasizing as primary.

It's great you want to support versioning. I benefit from it. But I never
think that somehow its an obligation. Its great you get the TW working for
free already.

essence what I was asking you for, that's the option I (personally) would
prefer.

There's a difference between backing up a TW when it is first opened from
disk and backing up on a save-by-save basis. I'm assuming we're talking
about the former, not the latter. The former is what I assume you mean by
"version history".

I already have that in place and don't see any need to change it, though I
maybe would if I felt the need -- can't imagine what that need might be
though.

As regards the time window... any code that takes a "best guess" at the
appropriate period of time is likely to suffer from distrust. Also, I have
some wikis that are open for weeks and many others that are transient
throughout a single day. Some are modified a lot, others rarely. I just
don't know what time period I'd pick. And then I'd always wonder if my
next save was going to suffer a 412 because I'd chosen a poor "best guess"
period.  Hence, distrust.

Really, honestly, I'd prefer no time checking at all. Then, as I said
above, TS would become usable (and, trustworthy).

[tw] ordering custom sidebar tabs

2017-10-27 Thread Captain Packers
I'm wondering if there is a way to order custom sidebar tabs relative to
one another. I know how to use the list-before and list-after options, but
it seems these must be relative to a $:/core/ui/SideBar/"TabName" to work
properly. Is there a way to order two custom tabs relative to one another?
For example, I tried editing "TabA" and using list-after
$:/tags/SideBar/TabB, but to no avail. I want them all to be before "Open",
but I want to control the order.

Thanks in advance.

[tw] Re: ordering custom sidebar tabs

2017-10-27 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi,

Assume:
Tiddler TabA tagged with $:/tags/SideBar and a list-before field containing
$:/core/ui/SideBar/Open so TabA will be the first tab.
If you want Tiddler TabB tagged with $:/tags/SideBar before TabA, you can
use a list-before field in TabB containing TabA.
That should work.

Other option: you can edit the list field of $:/tags/SideBar by hand.

Cheers,

Ton

Tech sidenote: Auto-captioning on YT is rarely as good as its claimed. I
think its usually too much work to get into. BUT the tech behind it IS
getting better and maybe it works better now?

In the past you had to speak like a robot if you wanted it automatic.
YouTube is a PRIMITIVE instrument. Professional software like Premiere and
Avid do it quite well.

I think your spoken English is good.

IF you want on screen words then I think you'll have to write them &
display them unless YT has got factors better than it was.

Hi Josiah,

Am I right in thinking that from within the script you want links to
each character? Meaning: every dialogue "CHARACTER" is linked to a
Tiddler for that character?

Yes, that is the way you do it...The rolenames are inserte by
transcluding them from a tiddler with this name. This makes it possible
to change the rolename or to lin a role to an actor.
The Tiddler is tagged role and just contains the <> macro as
text. You can use the sidebar menu to create it.

A small Update: It shows the Popup with possible completitions if I type

[tw] [Plugin] Dropboard 1.0.0 — Kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists, and cards.

2017-10-27 Thread Reid Gould

Dropboard 1.0.0

Dropboard version 1 has arrived! It is now safe, stable, and ready for use
as a permanent installation in your wikis.

See the source on GitHub:
https://github.com/reidgould/tiddlywiki-dropboard

Learn from the examples and documentation in the User Guide:
http://reidgould.github.io/tiddlywiki-dropboard

Here's a quick overview of the major features.

Kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists, and
cards... But better!
Dropboard has:

   - Full integration with TiddlyWiki. Drag any tiddler into a board.
   - Collapsible lists that you can still drag cards into.
   - Lots of features to improve workflow and setup the view of your board
   to be just right for the task at hand.

View and edit a huge amount of data at once using window mode and scaling
down your font size.

A full Trello style palette for TiddlyWiki called TWello!

Dropboard has been made completely by myself on my own time, and it's taken
quite a lot of it! The reason I spent the time to complete this project is
to be a key part of my design portfolio as I transition my career into
Software Engineering.

I have a list of features that I would love to add to create a Dropboard
version 2.0.0, but unfortunately this is all the time I can spend on this
project for free. If you're interested in supporting the next version of
this plugin you can support me on Patreon.

[tw] Re: Presenting: BLC Plugin! For kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists, and cards.

2017-10-27 Thread Reid Gould

Dropboard  version 1.0.0
has arrived!

See the new post here
 for an
overview of major features. There are some new examples and much more
information in the User Guide now, so take a look around.

If you want to upgrade a wiki from an older version, there's just one extra
step you should follow:

   - Uninstall Dropboard 0.X.X
   - For each tiddler you have used as a board:
  - Search for "Tiddler Name" and remove any tiddlers that have names
  like these (if you haven't been using the controls on the banner, there
may
  be none.):
 - Tiddler Name-BoardHeight_Stage
 - Tiddler Name-ListWidt_Stage
 - Tiddler Name-SearchListFilter_Live
 - Tiddler Name-SearchListFilter_Stage
 - Tiddler Name-UserFilter_Live
 - Tiddler Name-UserFilter_Stage
 - Click the edit button and in the "fields" area at the bottom,
  delete any fields with these names (if you haven't been using the
controls
  on the banner, there may be none.):
 -
 - listwidth-em
 - listwidth-num
 - boardheight
 - displayimages
 - displaytext
 - widthismax
 - collapse_in
  - Install Dropboard 1.0.0 and shortid Plugin (both found on the User
   Guide)

Thanks for all your help getting Dropboard this far!

[tw] [TW5] Formatting or styling needed to display text in a box

2017-10-27 Thread AndrewMc
Hi All

I am wanting to emphasise certain lines of text by surrounding them with a
box.
Can anyone describe how this could be done, or point me to information that
might help?

I am quite new to TW5 and am wondering whether if there is a widget for
this kind of thing, or if I can or should try to create and then apply
custom style.

Cheers

[tw] [TW5] ViewTemplate strange behaviour

2017-10-27 Thread mauloop
I was playing with $:/core/ui/ViewTemplate in search of ways to change the
tiddlers' look while I encountered something strange. It can be easily
reproduced online on tiddlywiki.com site.

   1. Go to http://tiddlywiki.com/
   2. Edit the shadow tiddler $:/core/ui/ViewTemplate
   3. Find the opening tag, immediately following the <$tiddler>
   widget declaration
   ...<$tiddler tiddler=<...

   4. Place the cursor between the <$tiddler> and the and insert a
   newline
   ...<$tiddler tiddler=<>>
   >>...

   5. Save and close, overwriting the shadow tiddler

Now click on any link in the page (both in the story or in the sidebar): it
seems that tiddlers are opened, but the page doesn't scroll to the clicked
tiddler. Il looks very strange to me that simply adding a newline could
change the wiki behaviour.

I first found something similar on a wiki I was working on, with a little
different result. In that case I had a *working* custom ViewTemplate with
more changes and I inserted some newline to make the code more readable.
When I saved the "beautified" ViewTemplate it happened that clicking on any
link raised a Javascript error.

TypeError: this.getLastFrame(...).getBoundingClientRect is not a function

I rolled back my newline one by one, until I came to this and the error was
fixed. So I decided to test it on the Tiddlywiki site to see if it was just
because of my changes. As I said on the site the behaviour is also
unexpected, even if a little bit different.

I was wandering why the ViewTemplate code has been written on a single
line. Now I realize that maybe it was for a reason like this.

Also I don't understand the meaning of:

<$tiddler tiddler=<>>

since the TiddlerWidget reference tells: *The TiddlerWidget
 is used to set a value for the
current tiddler  variable.* I
fell in a loop. Please, help me.

[tw] Re: [TW5] ViewTemplate strange behaviour

2017-10-27 Thread mauloop
I run one more test on tiddlywiki.com

Changed all the stuff in the ViewTemplate from:

\define frame-classes()
tc-tiddler-frame tc-tiddler-view-frame $(missingTiddlerClass)$
$(shadowTiddlerClass)$ $(systemTiddlerClass)$ $(tiddlerTagClasses)$
\end
\define folded-state()
$:/state/folded/$(currentTiddler)$
\end
<$set name="storyTiddler" value=<>><$set
name="tiddlerInfoState" value=<>><$tiddler tiddler=<<$list
filter="[all[shadows+tiddlers]tag[$:/tags/ViewTemplate]!has[draft.of]]"
variable="listItem"><$transclude tiddler=<>/>

to (just added some newline):

\define frame-classes()
tc-tiddler-frame tc-tiddler-view-frame $(missingTiddlerClass)$
$(shadowTiddlerClass)$ $(systemTiddlerClass)$ $(tiddlerTagClasses)$
\end

\define folded-state()
$:/state/folded/$(currentTiddler)$
\end

<$set name="storyTiddler" value=<>><$set
name="tiddlerInfoState" value=<>><$tiddler tiddler=<
<$list
filter="[all[shadows+tiddlers]tag[$:/tags/ViewTemplate]!has[draft.of]]"
variable="listItem">
<$transclude tiddler=<>/>

It is no possible to separate with any kind of blank (I tried newline and
space) the two SetWidget, the TiddlerWidget and the Div. It is still
possible, as usual, to insert newlines between the opening and closing tag
brackets (<>).

I can survive with this. I just would like to understand why.

[tw] Sharing/Keeping Tiddlers in sync for different users

2017-10-27 Thread Diego Mesa
Hey all,

I have a "math" section of my tiddlywiki, as does my friend. This has led
us to wonder how we can work together on editing this "branch" of our
wikis.

   1. Can you see the "version history" of changes on a tiddler?
   2. Is there some existing method to share all tiddlers belonging to tag?
   3. Is there some way to not just share, but keep them "in sync" between
   multiple places? I suppose this would be difficult, as we both use one-file
   installations of tiddlywiki.

If none of the above exist, is there some other way the community suggests?

Thanks!
Diego

Re: [tw] Re: Testers needed for TiddlyServer

2017-10-27 Thread Arlen Beiler
The time window would work something like this.

Let's say you have the wiki open in one tab and you do some editing and the
changes get saved. Can you open it in another tab or window or on another
computer, and make some changes there. Then you come back to the first
computer or tab and without thinking you make some changes and they
automatically get saved. If neither the backup feature nor Etag is enabled,
your changes are irretrievable lost, unless your backup system already
grabbed them as soon as they were written.

The backup feature of TiddlyServer lets you retrieve that old version, and
the e-tag prevents it from being overwritten in the first place.

Now if I would put a time window in place of, say, 10 seconds, it would be
able to save only if the file on disk is nor more than 10 seconds newer
than the version loaded in the browser. If it was modified more than 10
seconds later than the version in the browser it would not be able to save.
This would be a setting in settings.json so the user could adjust it
according to the need.

Interesting thought, I will consider it.

There are many different ways to do this with special macros and techniques
to extract text available.

But their is a core search operator (used in filters),

Captian,

Extending Tons Ide place this in any tiddler

Name any tiddler that has a listfiled and you can drag and drop the order.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Formatting or styling needed to display text in a box

AndrewMC,

Just using the backticks can be a quick poor mans tool for this
See this Quick Tip I wrote

```
A Heading box
```

@@display:block;width:50%;border:1px solid black;padding:5px;The text you
want to emphasise. Chance the style as you want, and perhaps use the button
in the editor toolbar to create a snippet to use over and over again.@@

Or generalise Birthe's solution like this in a tiddler tagged
$:/tags/Stylesheet

```
.textboarder {block;width:50%;border:1px solid black;padding:5px;}
```

Then Tridder the CSS in the Tiddler with most first character markdow, in
the below cases Semi-colon and Colon followed by ".textboarder" note
leading period.

See Image

[tw] Re: Sharing/Keeping Tiddlers in sync for different users

2017-10-27 Thread TonyM
Diego,

I am building a process to do something like this, using the bundler plugin
however you can export a set of tiddlers found in the Advanced search as a
json file. If you do not step on top of each other you could export a set
of tiddlers you own to a JSON the other can import. The Rule would be at
the start of work load the other persons json, at the end of work export
your own json the other will import.

That's identical behavior to current single-file TWs. Anyone using
single-file TWs knows (or should know) how that works. Arlen, seriously, I
admire you trying to solve it, but the etag system is, at times, failing
you. Because the etag system is failing you, *your* system, TS, is
suffering as a result.

Nifty idea. But again, it's not needed, IMO. You're trying to fix an etag
issue, not a TS issue, per se.

>
> Interesting thought, I will consider it.
>

Are you referring to my *bloody-minded* "A PUT request is an undeniable
request..." statement? Having thought about it more, I'd go even further
-- refusing to let me save, implies the server knows better than I do what
needs to be (and should be allowed to be) saved. That's a showstopper, for
me. :/

Anyway, I admire your diligence on this but hope you give me switch like...

{
  ...
  "ts-options" : {
"enable-etag": false // default true
  }
}

 :)

[tw] Re: [Plugin] Dropboard 1.0.0 — Kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists, and cards.

2017-10-27 Thread TonyM
Reid,

Thanks so much for this seriously valuable solution. Thanks also for
inviting feedback and responding. I see specifically it is working with
Generic "lists" as a result it is all the more powerful.

As you suggested with the TableOfContents I have also dropped $:/
tags/ViewTemplate

on a board as a list to reorder the way a tiddler is displayed with my
viewtemplate addons

I can also build a board from existing tags and what they tag

I will keep learning, thanks so much.
