[tw] TW5: Has anyone created something to replace KeePass2?
I am re-visiting TW5 and am keen to see if I can discard KeePass2. Has anyone created a TW5 that is aimed at credential storage? I have been fiddling with fields, dictionaries, etc and I think that a Tiddler for each host/user/password tagged with 'Credentials' then some sort of 'Display' tiddler that allows me to display this information in a more readable format than the default dictionary display. Alternatively, is there a way to make dictionaries display as they show in the editor, not as a single line of text? Also, I would like to create a 'template' which I fill in the fields and can click a 'button' which I will place in the sidebar, which opens a new tiddler with all the tiddler type set appropriately, and the 'left side:' components already in place, waiting for me to key in the data bits. I am thinking something like the following as a sample 'Credential' tiddler Domain: domainname Host: hostname Workgroup: workgroup User: username Password: password External DNS: example.com Internal DNS: example.com External IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Internal IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx RDP: rdp://hostname:3389 SSH: ssh://hostname:22 Notes: blah blah blah Obviously, not all of these fields are relevant to all hosts, but for my usage, this is the sort of thing I want to keep. Anyway, TW5 seems to be really cool and I am enjoying fiddling with it. ...Lyall -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Thanks for the prompt reply. Problem is, the site you linked works but the site http://tiddlywiki.bidix.info/ does not. Even http://www.giffmex.org/experiments/store.php does not work. [tw] Re: TW5 import existing TW file from older version WIkiwords not working?
I also gave TW5 a quick peek. My problem is I imported my legacy tiddlywiki which has over 1000 tiddlers. My browser paused for a while, which I am fine with but it opened every tiddler for display. I cannot find a 'close all' button, or preferably, I would rather have the option to have all the imported tiddlers open as my browser (both firefox and chrome) had mild cases of indigestion. Looks nice but I think my old tiddlywiki won't transport across easily, as I made extensive use of slices and tiddler includes. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] TW 2.8.1 (June 23, 2013) - Save broken in Firefox, on linux
Hmm.. Linux, Gentoo, 64 bit Intel (amd64) Firefox 17.0.8 (latest versions are not current in Gentoo due to compilation issues). Using a freshly downloaded empty.html, no problems. I open 'empty' and 'import' all the tiddlers from my tiddlywiki (around a 1000 of them, at a guess) and things go wrong. I have tried disabling ALL plugins and the problem persists - even though my tiddlywiki *appears* quite broken, it still functions. I have 36 active plugins under normal circumstances. See attached list of plugins. It's not a huge loss, I know what I have to do each time I save. The utility of TiddlyWiki is starting to fade with the tightening up of browser security, at least for me. If I can't overcome this, it's just another nail in the coffin and pushes me one one step closer to an alternative, with TiddlyWiki being relegated to a reference only information source, until I have completed the transition. This is a pity, I have always loved the ability to manage my own data on a USB key, or access it from my web hosting or use it on my work PC, without having to have anything extra installed. [tw] TW 2.8.1 (June 23, 2013) - Save broken in Firefox, on linux
I recently upgraded to 2.8.1 as firefox security has finally caught up with me. The save does not work, for me, because the saved file does not include the following bolded lines. !--POST-HEAD-START-- !--POST-HEAD-END-- */head body onload=main(); onunload=if(window.unload) unload();* !--PRE-BODY-START-- !--PRE-BODY-END-- If I copy these two lines back into the newly saved tiddlywiki, the new file will work. I have not tested to see if this is caused by some of my plugins, yet. Accidentally left clicking the save link seems to cause almost catastrophic failures, I am wondering if we can somehow disable left clicks on this link. I also note that the right click seems to take ages to respond. I have disabled the tiddlyfox plugin, as that no longer seems to perform the function I installed it for. Re: [tw] Re: Inline Editing of tables
Sorry, but the large tables support, in FF 14.0.1, just doesn't work for me. I liked the new layout, where no new columns where added, but I have an opening table, which is about 1.5 screens high. I am fine with that as I use the browser scroll bars to read it. With the new plugin, all of a sudden, it shrinks down to 1/2 screen height and scroll bars appeared with no obvious way to disable this scroll bar behaviour nor to expand the size of the tiddler. I found the system settings in your documentation version, but those settings did not automatically appear in the AdvancedSettings page. I used CookieJar to set them. I set the max table height to 2000px, as I am not interested in scrollbars on a page which has scroll bars. However, editing did not seem to like this as the row numbers overwrote the left column and all the add/delete icons in extra rows and columns don't seem to appear any longer. It's heading in the right direction, though :). ...Lyall -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Upgrading from 2.6.2 to 2.6.5, importing tiddlers and syncing plugins
I noticed that none of my plugins 'sync' any longer and I thought I would try get up to date by manually importing the plugins I use from TiddlyTools but I can't seem to 'import' plugins from tiddlytools. I figured I must simply be out of date. I have a tiddlywiki which is version 2.6.2 so I figured I would upgrade to the current 2.6.5. I am running TiddlyWiki in Firefox 14.0.1 on linux. Backstage upgrade doesn't work. Using the new empty tiddlywiki, I can't import tiddlers from my existing tiddlywiki. Exporting all my tiddlers to a file, using backstage works fine but loading an empty 2.6.5 and attempting to import the exported tiddlers fails. I am kind of stuck, short of breaking out a text editor and pasting all the tiddlers from old to new, does any one have any suggestions as to how I can proceed? ...Lyall -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] TableOfContents Plugin seems to be having difficulty
I am using TiddlyWiki 2.6.2 in FireFox (linux) version 13. TableOfContents version 2.4.3 The menu displays but it's stuck in showing 'shadows', if I click on one of the other categories, nothing happens. It expands, shrinks, hides, unhides and scrolls just fine. Clicking on one of the shadow tiddler entries also works, it's just the categories that doesn't. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to fix it, as TableOfContents is an awesome plugin which has always been rock solid. ...Lyall -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. I am no expert but given the wonky nature of the error messages, it would appear that at least some of your tiddler macro text is in unicode and parts are not. Re: [tw] Problem with TiddlerEncryptionPlugin and DataTiddlerPlugin
The decrypt button will only appear if you have the default ToolbarCommands shadow tiddler. I assume that if you have a non-shadow version of this tiddler, that you have custom buttons and I did not want to interfere by fiddling with your customisations. [tw] Re: Migrate this forum to a wiki (not a TW-based wiki)
Well, I tried fiddling with the tiddlyspace wiki and, as a long time tiddlywiki user, even I couldn't figure it out. I thought I would correct How do I right-justify some text in a tiddler? to say that all you have to do is 'htmlp align=rightthe text/phtml' in the tiddler, rather than fiddle around with stylesheets. I registered with tiddlyspace, I can login to the wiki, but there is no edit link, and if I click on 'Reply', I end up back at my base tiddlyspace page - which I wasn't planning on using. It seems pointless creating a 'Doc note' when all I want to do is simplify an existing tiddler. I am sure it all makes sense to someone who has been there done that since the start, but you have me stumped! [tw] Re: New plugin - ScriptButtonPlugin
Cool, but it does not appear do what was asked of me. Specifically, I was asked to give a 'button' which executed arbitrary code on click, not execute javascript on display of the tiddler. I feel that these are two distinctly different ways of doing stuff. I am not saying that my plugin is better, it's a simple hack, but the requirement was that a tiddler had a button, which if clicked, would execute arbitrary code, whereas, what you are describing, appears to execute javascript on display of the tidder - a slightly different result. ...Lyall -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: Encryption
Try http://www.remotely-helpful.com/TiddlyWiki/TiddlerEncryptionPlugin.html It takes a slightly different approach, in that it encrypts individual tiddlers that are tagged for encryption, but leaves the rest unencrypted. This is not to say that you can't encrypt all tiddlers, but in my experience, only a few tiddlers contain sensitive information whilst the rest are fairly generic. You can have different passwords for different groups of tiddlers by simply setting the 'Encrypt(passwordPrompt)' tag to have a different 'passwordPrompt'. I use it (as well as wrote it) daily. You can also distribute your tiddler, knowing that public tiddlers are searchable and visible but the 'encrypted' tiddlers are not. Re: [tw] Re: Encryption
The title of the tiddly may be searchable, depending upon the options checked. No point in searching the content, it's encrypted! There is a macro which you can embed in your main menu, which will decrypt all tiddlers, prompting for passwords as required, if you have more than one password prompt. Encrypted tiddlers have the option of not even showing up in menus, unless you decrypt them using the decrypt all macro or load them by specific links. Unencrypted tiddlers can include encrypted tiddlers. Regarding the discussion with FND, it turned out that his plugin operated at a completely different and incompatible level to the one I wrote. Mine targets local tiddlywikis whereas his targets remotely hosted tiddlywikis using different events to decrypt/encrypt. [tw] Re: Encrypting my TiddlyWiki
An encrypted tiddler is tagged with 'Decrypt(prompt)' A decrypted tiddler, that will be encrypted, on save, is tagged with 'Encrypt(prompt)' The process of saving the tiddlywiki looks for all tiddlers tagged Encrypt(prompt), encrypts them and changes the tag to 'Decrypt(tag)' An encrypted tiddler is loaded, as is, from the tiddlywiki (you can look at the contents), whether it is from a local file or a remote server. When a tiddler is retrieved for display from an already loaded tiddlywiki, the 'getTiddler' function has been overridden to look for the 'Decrypt(prompt)' tag. If it finds it, it decrypts the tiddler, otherwise, it does nothing and simply allows normal tiddler retrieval. If you have not entered the password for a prompt, then encrypted tiddlers will not automatically decrypt, you will need to press the 'decrypt' or 'decrypt all' buttons to enter the password. Once a password is entered, it is not normally asked for again (unless you configure it that way) - and all encrypted tiddlers will automatically decrypt, from that point on. When you hit the 'save changes' button or an auto-save happens, TiddlerEncryptionPlugin searches for any tiddlers with 'Encrypt (prompt)' in their tags - for each one, it encrypts and re-tags with 'Decrypt(prompt)'. Once all tiddlers have been checked and encrypted, the save is handled using the existing save functionality. So, the only time a tiddler is decrypted is when you display it and press the decrypt button, or you use 'decrypt all'. If a tiddler is downloaded from the net with encrypted tiddlers, the tiddlers are encrypted whilst in transit. They only ever are decrypted in your browser. If the UploadPlugin had default upload urls as configuration settings and overrode the 'save changes' method, like TiddlerEncryptionPlugin, then the 'saved tiddlywiki', as uploaded, would be encrypted, in transit, with no changes to the 'server side' - all the encryption is done on the client. It is even possible, to have a 'external tiddler' plugin (I think Eric wrote one, amongst seemingly millions...), that if it overrode the getTiddler and getTiddlerText functions, then TiddlerEncryptionPlugin would even process 'external' tiddlers correctly - assuming the plugins loaded 'external tiddlers' then TiddlerEncryptionPlugin Note that if you close the tiddlywiki page or press the browser re- load button, all cached passwords are lost. Hopefully that answers your question. :-) ...Lyall On Nov 11, 12:26 pm, Amzg matiasg...@gmail.com wrote: Hoping to catch the opportunity to ask the creator himself; Mr. Pearce, do I understand this correct; A tiddler is only encrypted when it is rendered. [tw] Re: Can UploadTiddlerPlugin and EncryptionPlugin work together?
Ok, I have had a quick look at upload. I wrote TiddlerEncryptionPlugin (TEP) quite a while ago. TEP overrides store.getSaver().externalizeTiddler and saveChanges(). saveChanges() is the code that is executed when you click the 'save changes' button. The Upload plugin does not override the save changes mechanism nor does it utilise the externalizeTiddler() function. A special version of TiddlerEncryptionPlugin would need to override the config.macros.upload.handler. Alternatively, it would be nice if the upload plugin actually overrode the save code. I am a bit busy tonight, but sometime over the next few days I may get motivated to whip up an enhancement such that TiddlerEncryptionPlugin will 'override' Upload plugin to allow encryption of tiddlers prior to upload. Unless, of course, someone beats me to it and sends me the update :-) ...Lyall On Nov 10, 6:50 pm, Alexander Tsvetkov egalitar...@gmail.com wrote: Thanks for the suggestion. [tw] TiddlerEncryptionPlugin - no 'decrypt' button in toolbar
In response to a private message, I thought I would share the solution, for others. A TiddlerEncryptionUser wrote: Hi Lyall, i try to use your TiddlerEncryptionPlugin in my TiddlyWiki core version 2.4.3. The described decrypt button does not appear in the toolbar. If i let the tiddler content have been replaced by a decrypt button everything works. Is there anything additional i have to do? Thanks The solution... You will not have a 'decrypt' button in the tool bar if you have a customised toolbar. Look at the *shadow* tiddler ToolbarCommands. You will see 'decryptThis' in the list of the ViewToolbar. If you have a non-shadow version of this tiddler, you will not see 'decryptThis'. If you have a non-shadow version, this means you, or a plugin, has customised the toolbar in some way. To overcome this, edit the ToolbarCommands and place 'decryptThis' (without quotes) immediately before +editTiddler. Alternatively, you could, by way of expermiment, rename the ToolbarCommands tiddler, just to prove that the decrypt button appears. The TiddlerEncryptionPlugin deliberately does not interfere with non- shadow versions of the toolbar, figuring that if you have tweaked it, I don't want to mess things up. ...Lyall --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: No Decryption button after encryption
I forgot to mention, as an all out emergency, you could simply open the TiddlerEncryptionPlugin tiddler, it's documentation includes a 'Decrypt All' button, which you can press. Also, never, ever, edit the actual encrypted tiddler content - you can edit the tags, but if you fiddle with the encrypted text itself, you won't be able to decrypt it. ...Lyall On Oct 17, 3:33 pm, Lyall [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If you have no custom ViewTemplate tiddler, the decrypt button appears next to the Edit button. If, however, you have a *non-shadow* ViewTemplate, you will have to put the 'decryptThis' text into the toolbar, manually. How you do this, depends on whether your ViewTemplate includes the latest 2.4 updates or not. Refer to thishttp://groups.google.com/group/TiddlyWiki/browse_thread/thread/4dd4d5... thread for more details. ...Lyall On Oct 17, 12:20 pm, Mark S. [tw] Addendum to TiddlerEncryptionPlugin update
My latest version of TiddlerEncryptionPlugin, released a couple of days ago, includes the ability to put a 'decrypt' button next to the edit button, when displaying encrypted tiddlers. This will automatically appear if you do not have a custom ViewTemplate - ie, you use the default shadow ViewTemplate. If, however, you have a custom ViewTemplate tiddler, you will need to manually edit the ViewTemplate to include this feature. Look for '+editTiddler' and add 'decryptThis' before it. You can put the decryptThis anywhere you like in the line but I put it before the 'edit' button so that the decrypt button is in the normal edit position, if the tiddler is encrypted. The decrypt button will not appear if the tiddler is not encrypted. The current thinking is that if someone has a custom ViewTemplate tiddler, that a plugin should not automatically fiddle with it - which is what the TiddlerEncryptionPlugin is currently doing. ...Lyall --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: New version of TiddlerEncryptionPlugin
Ok, found the problem. For me, it is that I have a custom ViewTemplate and the TiddlerEncryptionPlugin modifies the shadow tiddler - it does not look to see if there is a non-shadow ViewTemplate tiddler. This will teach me to test my plugin in an empty.html. To fix it for you (till I release a fix), setup your toolbar in ViewTemplate to look similar to this... (div class='toolbar' macro='toolbar collapseTiddler collapseOthers closeTiddler closeOthers decryptThis +editTiddler intelliTagsEdit fields syncing permalink references jump ')(/div) (I replaced angle brackets with brackets - in case Google removed them) In my case, I have intelliTagsEdit there as well, but the important thing is the word decryptThis (case sensitive) - you can place it anywhere you like, but I place it immediately before the +editTiddler. Sorry for the mix up. ...Lyall On Oct 7, 10:17 am, Lyall [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I too am not seeing the decrypt button in the toolbar, whilst at work, using Windows and FF3. I develop on Linux using FF2 and it worked fine there. I will report back when I spot the compatibility issue. All the changes I have made are backward compatible - you can switch between version 2 and 3 with no issues there. The hard part, when moving from 2 to 3 is using the form - it really made things complicated - when the 'accept()' function call was so easy - all to obscure the password. I will post again when I figure out what is going on. Don't worry, I use this plugin myself, extensively (I have over 100 tiddlers that are encrypted) so it's in my interest to get this working properly. Don't forget the 'DecryptAll' button in the TiddlerEncryptionPlugin documentation - I have put that button in my mainMenu for ease of access. ...Lyall On Oct 7, 7:22 am, PJO [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks for fixing the older version. I had already updated TiddlyFolio to 3.1.1 but I wasn't so keen on the ease of losing data and I added a warning note, hopefully temporarily, but this now seems to be stepping out of the frying pan if you'll pardon the expression. With TW 2.4.1 there is no decrypt option I can see, and it's not because there's nothing encrypted; I tested The MainMenu for TiddlyFolio has a macro with EncryptionDecryptAll Decrypt All Make all items searchable Encrypt(TiddlyFolio) which no longer works. Even more confusing, the Checkbox for encrypted items is cleared when after saving and reloading. Changing Encrypt( to Decrypt( on the tags fixes but making a corresponding change to Decrypt All didn't decrypt. You didn't change the tagging so that this would break any existing TW with encrypted tiddlers if plugged in?! Well, no problem as long as we know. I'm wondering if it might be best for me to go back to the previous version now that the length bug is fixed but a) I recall you also introduced a seemingly useful check against potential problems from multiple passwords b) I like what you tried to do with decrypt button on each tiddler and I thought you'd hinted at a way of making it work by removing the edit button. However, I find the extra complications already alarming, having lost data. On balance a single password for all encrypted tiddlers is better than losing data. Any issues with the previous version and the latest TW? On Oct 6, 4:55 pm, BarryS [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Lyall, As with FND I am not seeing the 'decrypt' button at all. The tag for my tiddler has been changed from 'Encrypt(X)' to 'Decrypt(X)'. The contents of the tiddler is 'Encrypted(string of numbers and letters)' followed by a shorter string of numbers and letters. But no 'Decrypt' button anywhere, either in the body of the tiddler or on the toolbar. I am using TW version 2.4.1 Regards Barry On 6 Oct, 14:03, FND [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If you are using a core version of less than 2.4, the toolbar button does not work I was running 2.4.0, and just upgraded to 2.4.1. The decrypt button only shows up if there is a tag Decrypt( in the tags list. My Dashboard - which is part of DefaultTiddlers - is tagged with Decrypt(secret), and there's no sign of a Decrypt toolbar command. Same for all other encrypted tiddlers. Regarding regex, true enough - but that code is only executed once, on tiddlywiki startup, so I am not concerned. Yep - just thought I'd mention it. I think I need to spend a bit of time re-factoring the plugin, in line with current practices - I cannot say I am hugely happy with how it has 'grown'.
