Re: [TMIC] Diabetes Statin Drug Questionnaire
Hi Rosalie, I don't know much, but I know that recently I have been put on two different kinds of cholesterol meds and with both of them have had a reaction that feels like I am being paralyzed all over again. I've been in bed, unable to eat, fever and UTI that did not respomd to the first two antibacterials. My cholesterol is too high. I know that. But, I wonder how much the medications have to do with these strange symptoms that start at my toes and go all the way to my shoulders. The shoulder involvement is new. So, what's going on? I HAVE BEEN ON ZETIA AND LIPITOR-NOW CRESTOR- FOR YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS, EXCEPT FOR SOME MUSCLE SORENESS I CONTROL WITH CO-Q 10. FOR THOSE ON EXPENSIVE CRESTOR, MAY I SUGGEST YOU HAVE THE DOCTOR DOUBLE THE MG'S AND YOU CUT THEM IN HALF, IT IS MUCH CHEAPER THAT WAY. TOO BAD MY ZETIA AND ACEPHEX CANNOT BE DONE THAT WAY, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE, TOO - ESPECIALLY THE ACEPHEX. The only thing new I did at that time was to take zocor for 8 weeks previous to this because my Dr had been after me for years about my high cholestorol. All the neuros I have seen laugh at this and say it has nothing to do with it. Now I am back on a low dose of Lipitor and am wondering whether I should stay on it. .What to do? Re: [TMIC] Diabetes Statin Drug Questionnaire
I was on Lipitor when I was hit with TM. Of course, the Dr. did not believe the Lipitor had anythng to do with TM. I had no muscle problem whle taking it but went off it after TM just to see if it helped with any TM symptoms but it made no difference. My cholesterol went back up and after about 6 months went back on Lipitor. [TMIC] Diabetes Statin Drug Questionnaire
Hello all, I need your help. I am collecting some information on my own and would like everyone to respond who has diabetes and/or who were taking statin drugs prior to the onset of TM. While on vacation last week, I heard on the Tampa, FL news of a man who reportedly had diabetes which affected his spine and one day he woke up and could not moved one side of his body. The news was reporting that someone stole his electric cart out of his truck, but my ears perked up with his illness. Also while on vacation I read a book called: Statin Drugs Side Effects and the Misguided War on Cholesterol. Very interesting information, so interesting that I am now cutting my Lipitor in half. To complete this questionnaire, please click on forward and then you will be able to respond to each question or statement. I will post my findings on the TMIC List. My goal is to give everyone 30 days to respond and I will send out a reminder in 15 days. I do not need or want your personal names as I do not want anyone to think that I will use this information for anything other than my own personal use. Depending on the information I collect, I may share it with my physician. 1. Date diagnosed with TM. 2. Date diagnosed with diabetes. 3. Do you have Type I or Type II diabetes? 4. What medication do you take for diabetes? 5. Date began taking statin drugs or Zetia. (Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor. Pravachol, Crestor, Vytorin, Lescol and Baycol which has been taken off the market.) 6. Which drug are you taking or did you take? 7. Have you ever had muscle pain, cramping or weakness since you began taking any of these statin drugs? 8. When did the muscle pain, cramping or weakness begin in correlation to the onset of TM? Carol in Culver, IN TM, T8-T10 June 2005
Re: [TMIC] Diabetes Statin Drug Questionnaire
I too had a fairly quick onset of TM (still not fully diagnosed) Labor Day weekend 2005. Felt like i was standing on a live wire down both legs and became paralyzed from the waist down. Now can move my legs and even drive but cannot stand alone or walk without a walker. My primary neuro still thinks it was an infarction of the spinal cord but several others including a doctor at the Cleveland clinic believe it is TM. Perhaps it is one and the same. Also, I had been fighting taking Zocor for my high cholestoral for years and just that summer decided to take it (40mgs) I had been taking it for about 6 weeks when this struck. I also thought that the statin drug had something to do with this but all the drs. pooh poohed it. Even now, a year and one half later one dr. talked me into to taking Lipitor (20mgs) He says that the statin drugs could not cause TM. I hope he is right. Anyone else on drugs for cholestoral. Any other thoughts?? Thanks,Rosalie from sunny Fla. but now in freezing NY for a week. BRBRBR**BR AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.
