Re: [TMIC] Needing help...??
Don't know if this will help out but Rich in Philly got TM when he was like 15. He's now in his mid 30's I think... He might be willing to chat with her if she would like... He can be reached on Facebook and MySpace. Here are the links to his profiles... http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=1523776858 http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfilefriendID=187928717 I know he won't mind anyone contacting him. Hi, everyone, I recently found out about a little girl in the third grade that is really having a tough time with her TM and needs to find some other children or even someone that might have been stricken with TM when they were young and are older now. I am getting the details to see how she can 'chat' with someone but this is my first step. Sure hope someone can help her.. Jeanne in Dayton
Re: [TMIC] Needing help...??
Cody Unser is an inspirational young woman who was struck with TM in her teens. Here is her website: http://www.cufsf.org/content.asp?CustComKey=346548CategoryKey=350032pn=PageDomName=cufsf.org Also, Netta Ganor is on the TMIC, and is a wonderful young woman with TM. I don't have her address, but I'm sure someone will. RE: [TMIC] Needing help...??
Thank you SO much, Sue! This is wonderful and I will send this on to the mother as soon as I find out how Sophia wants to communicate. The mom would probably really appreciate being in touch with other parents in the same situation. Thank you, again! j ---Original Message--- From: Bob and Sue Mattis Date: 1/14/2009 7:09:53 AM To: 'jrushton' Subject: RE: [TMIC] Needing help...?? Hi Jeanne, There are 2 children that Ive become close to in the last few years. There is Cole Ross from Canada (neilandwe...@rogers.com) whos parents are Neil and Wendy. He developed TM as an infant and I believe is 10 or 11 now. Also there is Maria Hoge from Pennsylvania (ho...@msn.com) whos parents are Pam and Morgan. Pam and I are co-chair for the PA support group. Maria also was struck as an infant and is now I believe also around 9, 10etc. Pam is a nurse and is so knowledgeable about all the care involved for a child with TM. Wendy is also what I consider an expert on the subject as she has been the primary caregiver for Cole as well. I would think either child would relate well, but probably Maria would be a little more receptive to an on-line, phone, or snailmail relationship with another. You know how boys are. But either way, I would contact the parents and see what you could set up. I know there is another child (Rachael) that the Reading for Rachael program is for on the TM website, but I dont know the family personally. Hope this helps! You know, Debbie...I almost got in touch with you before I sent the e-mail to TMIC! You are such a blessing as are all of you on TMIC! I will pass this info on to Sophia's mom! Thank you! j ---Original Message--- From: Deborah Nord Capen Date: 1/14/2009 11:16:44 AM To: jrushton Subject: Re: [TMIC] Needing help...?? Hi Jeanne, I don't have the information readily available, but you might want to contact Jeanne Hamilton in Illinois (she is in the TMA Membership Directory) There are several parents of children with TM who are available for help. Due to her age and privacy issues, we do not have any groups specifically for children, but for the parents of children. There is a parents support group that you can find at the website at www.myelitis.org under support groups. She definitely needs to sign up for the Victory Junction Children's and Family Camp this summer!! Please, if you can send me her information I will contact the Mom to discuss this with her. She will meet others who are her age (and older), as well as Dr. Kerr, Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Pidcock, who will be at the camp. And it is absolutely free to attend for the children and the families (this includes any siblings she has). The only cost is the travel expense to get there. Please let me know how I can help. Re: [TMIC] Needing help...??
Oh, Mary Anne, maybe this is exactly what she needs! If she can help a little girl that is even younger than her, it may help her feel better about what is going on! This would be so wonderful. How is your little girl? I just cannot imagine having this happen to little ones. They are so helpless and can't tell you what hurts and it truly does hurt. Thank you so very much for offering your help. I'm waiting for an answer from Sophie's mom and if it works right, I will be forwarding all of the wonderful e-mails I've received. Thank you, again!
