I have had some ear problems for the past few weeks. I went from hearing
well to sudden hearing problems, vertigo and blurriness with my vision. When
I talk, I hear the sounds of my voice muffled up inside of my head and not
like the usually normal hearing. The ear doctor cleaned up my ear and it
took 3 trips. My hearing seemed improved but a lot of the wierdness kept
going on - and I am hoping that it will just clear up.
But the reason that I am writing is because the ear doctor said that a lot
of my problems seemed to have a neurological basis. I have had vertigo,
dizziness and things just seem wierd. My vision has been off in a very odd
way especially when I either try to focus or if I move my head or something
 moves by me.
He brought this up without prior knowledge of my history with TM and the
other oddities that I had had and wanted me to have an MRI to check to see
if my odd auditory and vision issues were being caused from something in my
brain. He asked me specifically if I had ever had problems with tingling,
numbness or other M.S. type symptoms and thinks that my neuro should check
 it out.
I'm very skeptical about his ideas yet also a little nervous about doubting
 his speculations.
Those of you who have MS, have you ever heard/experienced odd things like
sudden vertigo, dizziness, vision and auditory changes ect.? I'm very
nervous about this. I have already gone through two foot drops, loss of my
right leg, loss of bladder function and the pain and miserable mobility
issues that come with TM, the physical thearpy and finally I am for the
first time walking and getting around without spasms or pain. I am not ready
for a new bout with a new problem .

Diane,
I also forgot to mention..you said something about your thermostat
being screwed up..and yes..I'm right there with you on that too.
Anymore I never know if I'm going to be too hot or cold when I go to
bed. I seem to sweat okay for the most part...but now usually when I go
to bed I have to leave my left leg out from under the covers. My left
side is my worst side. Before TM I was one that always had to be
covered as I was usually always cool, but anymore...there is no rhyme
or reason with my thermostat either.

Kevin and All,

I was interested in what you said regarding always being cool or cold before
TM.  That's the way I was before TM.  I also ran unusual low blood pressure and
my core temp would be anywhere from 95.6 to 96.  I wonder if this was an
indication.

Before TM, I hardly ever sweated unless I was out in the sun on very warm
days.  Now, if I'm doing anything here in my air conditioned house, I start
sweating like I was digging ditches in 120 degree weather.  But, I only sweat
from my shoulders up.  The more my head sweats, the more the sensation of my
feet in an ice bucket.

I wish we all could go in and have our wiring replaced!

Hi Randy - I was diagnosed with TM in 2002 and then in Nov 2007 I
started having vision problems - I saw double if I looked to my right -
after an MRI of my head, it was changed to MS. But don't go by me,
everyone's different - you should consult with your neurologist right
away. I think it was MS from the beginning I and I wish they diagnosed
it in 2002 - that way I could have started on the MS med copaxone then,
and it COULD have prevented the attacks I have had since

Hi Candy,

Well...I don't know...I've always been a bit of a cold blooded person...I mean
ever since I can remember..and my blood pressure has always been pretty much
spot on...120/60 give or take a couple pointsso I don't know.
You mention about the head sweating...geez...don't I know.. At night
sometimes...I wake up and my head is drenched... or if I do something
strenuous around the house (like sweep the kitchen..)my forehead drips like
someone sprayed me with water..now, I don't really notice much sweating from
the waist down..even when I have to wear diapers..I get a little warm around
the waist but not to the point where I sweat..

Yes...I'd be up for a rewiring...strip out all the old and replace with some
new..

Take care,
Kevin

Re: [TMIC] is this an M.S. problem?

2008-10-15 Thread Heyjude48458

Hello my friend,

Since June 3, 2002, I have spiked fevers on almost a daily basis and yet
deep inside my body I feel like I am made of ice water. I have not perspired
since the onset, but when I am over-tired or late in changing my fentanyl
patch, I have bouts of Autonomic-dysreflexia and the only thing that helps
then
is valium.

It sounds as though broken thermostats go hand in hand with Transverse
Myelitis. My basic temperature is 97.2* Even in the hospital with sepsis
(blood infection) I rarely had a temp of over 98*. Isn't that crazy? Most
people would be spiking super high temperatures.

On to other news...Now it is my turn to ask you for your Prayers and good
thoughts for Pam as she is in the hospital unable to move her legs. She told
me that she woke up feeling kind of funny, but went ahead and got ready for
her day when all of a sudden her hips and back began hurting terribly. She
lay
down on the bed and before she knew it she couldn't move her legs.
Neighbors took her to the hospital where she was admitted right away.

This has happened to her before and brings to mind the question, Is there
such a thing as remitting/recurring TM, or does she have MS? Pam's
neurologist says it is TM...there are no lesions on her brain.

I need to go as I am having a vancomycin IV treatment and it is about ready
to finish. I have to watch the volume of medicine in the tubing to avoid
getting air in my pic-line. That would do me in for sure.

Anyone who needs Pam's phone number or address can email either Ella or me.
I can't reach my notebook where it is written down or I would give it to you
now.

Peace and Prayers,
Jude

He asked me specifically if I had ever had problems with tingling, numbness
or other M.S. type symptoms and thinks that my neuro should check it out.
I'm very skeptical about his ideas yet also a little nervous about doubting
his speculations.
Those of you who have MS, have you ever heard/experienced odd things like
sudden vertigo, dizziness, vision and auditory changes ect.? I'm very nervous
about this. I have already gone through two foot drops, loss of my right leg,
loss of bladder function and the pain and miserable mobility issues that come
with TM, the physical thearpy and finally I am for the first time walking
and getting around without spasms or pain. I am not ready for a new bout with
a new problem .

Thanks to everyone who replied on the issue of fevers.  How weird and wonderful
we are !!
I too have always had low blood pressure and a normal body temp of 96.8.
My body face only get slightly damp when I run a fever but the back of my
head runs like a dripping tap I have to wear a towel around my neck to catch
it.
My hubby keeps telling people there's never a dull moment with me.
Guys, we breathing, we're thinking, we're talking.  Life is good.

And never regret anything that made you smile.

Prayers and thoughts for you and yours,

Diane,
I also forgot to mention..you said something about your thermostat being
screwed up..and yes..I'm right there with you on that too. Anymore I never know
if I'm going to be too hot or cold when I go to bed. I seem to sweat okay for
the most part...but now usually when I go to bed I have to leave my left leg
out from under the covers. My left side is my worst side. Before TM I was one
that always had to be covered as I was usually always cool, but anymore...there
is no rhyme or reason with my thermostat either.

Diane,
My daughter gets fevers of unknown origin, as we have been told to call
them.  For us, over the years we have learned that her level of injury (now c5)
affects her thermostat and she cannto regulate her temp.  She did not sweat for
four to five years and we always had to assist in getting her temp down
externally.  Geting her shoes and socks off, spraying her with water, getting
her under fans, etc...it helps a lot but if she gets too cold too fast that is
also an issue so there needs to be a balance or there appears to be too much
input.
The same is true for the cold, we need to warm her externally before her body
catches up.
She began sweating in her feet about 6-8 months ago.
When she was first diagnosed she was only seven months and she was in the
hospital for about 6 weeks and we could not go home with a fever.  We used to
give her a cold washcloth to cool her off and it became so habitual that she
still asks to sleep with one at night, six years later.  She especially gets
hot at night so she finds it helpful.  Most of her fevers we found were being
addressed through the use of these external means.  But she has had real fevers
too where she has needed medicine. IT took us a long time to be able to
differentiate.  As they both would register as fevers on a thermometer.  To
this day there are times we start with external means and see how she responds.
Hope that helps.

Hey Randy.  I have suspected MS (no definite dx yet).  I've had no auditory or
visual problems but vertigo/dizziness do come periodically.  My sense of smell
taste are also affected.  I get pins needles in my face sometimes a
sensation that someone has stabbed me with a shapened pencil somewhere on the
outside of my head.  All my brain MRIs have been clear so who knows.
Here's something I've never heard discussed on TMIC ...  Periodically, I get
really high fever.  It usually comes with fatigue, emotional upset, etc.  The
doctors have no answer

I have had strange sensations with my sense of smell. Sometimes I smell
things similar to the smell of smoke. First I thought it was coming from my
air conditioner in Florida but when I got to NY it was the same. Neuro sent
me for brain eeg and mri. Both showed nothing. I guess I still have a brain
but the sensations are still there but not as much.

I have had some ear problems for the past few weeks. I went from hearing
well to sudden hearing problems, vertigo and blurriness with my vision. When I

the usually normal hearing. The ear doctor cleaned up my ear and it took 3

and I am hoping that it will just clear up.
But the reason that I am writing is because the ear doctor said that a lot
of my problems seemed to have a neurological basis. I have had vertigo,
dizziness and things just seem wierd. My vision has been off in a very odd way
especially when I either try to focus or if I move my head or something moves
by
me.
He brought this up without prior knowledge of my history with TM and the
other oddities that I had had and wanted me to have an MRI to check to see if

He asked me specifically if I had ever had problems with tingling, numbness
