Where can I download a copy of the Warp connector for Unix or is coyote a
better replacement ?
If so is it a release version or is there a better version that has been

John,
Thanks for the response. But this is where I am getting lost.
2 questions:
Is webapp basically Warp (My boss is asking for Warp - why I don't know)

And unless I am missing it I don't see a link to download the connector

Thanks

The available connectors are listed on the left-hand side.

"Better" is relative, it depends on what you are doing. The consensus at
the moment seems to be that mod_jk is the best connector for mixed sites
using apache and tomcat (static and dynamic content). If you are using
tomcat stand-alone, than the other connectors may be better choices
(mod_webapp, mod_jk2, etc).

Yes I am looking for the Binary build
Sorry I should have been more specific - your not being a jerk.

Or is the file in the src what I need instead?
But from what your saying it seems like mod_jk would be better because we
use Tomcat, weblogic and apache to server static and dynamic pages.

OK, not to be a jerk, but it would help if you would explain what you've
done and what you haven't done already when looking for answers. It saves
the rest of us time.

So, to rephrase your initial post to the list, you are looking for binary
builds of the apache tomcat connectors for Solaris 6 and Solaris 8. Is this
correct?

I found warp a lot easier to get going, until I actually found some
reasonable documentation on mod_jk, but, as the table suggests, if you
have static content you want Apache to serve (and it sounds like you do)
it will not let Apache serve it! This is one of the most notable
shortcomings of mod_webapp. mod_jk will let Apache handle the static
content AND (if you want it to) it will load-balance. It will also
provide you with "sticky" sessions. Oh - and mod_jk only serves dynamic
content =)

Tomcat and Java Locale

2002-05-15 Thread Nance, Michael

I am trying to solve a problem we are having with Non-ASCII characters and
the Euro.

First I am starting tomcat with -Dfile.encoding=ISO8859-1 in out java
startup.

However if I do something like this

Locale localeTest = new Locale("de","de", "Euro");
NumberFormat nfTest = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(localeTest);

Test
<%=nfTest.format(5)%>

I get his result from My Jsp
Test
? 55.555,00
I do do a system.out of non Asii Characters such as é â ä à ë è ï - euro
symbol (EUR) - British pound £
and All print except for the Euro (EUR) but if I echo it to the browser it
prints fine.
We are on Unix Boxes with Solaris 7

Is there something else I am missing

One note: We also Run through Weblogic which has the same result for the
system.out but trying to run the jsp at the weblogic level non of the
characters pring correctly.

Thanks

Simon, Thanks for replying...
But when I do the Java Locale I do not correctly get the Euro character.
The only time I do get the Euro if I actually copy and paste it... Therefore
echoing it back prints fine,
but I have not be able to create it using Java Locale or any other method...
And ideas?

Drew thanks for the reply.
I tried changing the file encoding to UTF-8 and I still don't get the Euro

Basically I am creating a form like this

Message:

Then when the form is submitted I print it back out to the JSP itself first
with HTML and a system..out.println.
In the HTML all characters print correctln.. in the system.out The Euro
does not print.

We are running on a Solaris box with Weblogic and Tomat and my Browser is on

Well for one, there is no Euro in ISO 8859-1. The major difference
between Latin 1 (8859-1) and Latin 9 (8859-15) aka Latin 0 is that the
latter has a Euro were the Universal Currency Symbol is in Latin 1 (0xA4).

You mention that the Euro prints fine when you "echo it to the browser".
I'm not sure what that means, but how do you echo it and is the
browser running on a windows box by any chance? The western encoding
on windows is not exactly Latin anything. It's CP1252, which is
Latin1, with some extra characters in the second control set from 0x80
to 0x9F. Guess where they stuck the Euro? Yep somewhere everyone
else expects a control character (0x80). No reasonable software
running on Solaris will think that's a Euro, or even printable. But
if you shove the bits back to a Windows box, you'll see a Euro.

A good rundown of ISO 8859 is at
http://czyborra.com/charsets/iso8859.html

You might try using 8859-15, or perhaps cp1252 if you are only
supporting browsers on windows. Note you'll need to update the
content type in the page directive of the JSP. By default it's 8859-1
and all character data is transcoded to that. In which case I'd
expect you to get '?'s instead of Euros. Since you're getting the
Currency Symbol from the system, I'd expect you to be getting a proper
UCS2 Euro (\u20ac) in any case -- ie I suspect the default file
encoding doesn't make a difference. But the encoding of the JSP
output sure will.

Another strategy is to output UTF-8. Again, the trick is likely to be
setting the JSP encoding/content-type.

If that doesn't work. Let me know
o what you do see when use the above example
o what the content type in the page directive is (if any)
o what environment/locale you are viewing this in (ie where is the
   browser)
o what the browser thinks it got back (eg what encoding is it trying
to display, what did it think the content type was. for netscape
do View-Page Info. Not quite sure how to get the content type
   in IE)

Hi Paul,

It appears we are fighting the same battle at the same time. I have ripped
through this for an entire night. Not only isn't there a build script for
solaris in the default tar, the apxs compile directions are wrong!

I have simply asked some one for a recompiled version. It is easier. BTW,
then you have to work with the mod_jk.conf file and start configuring what
gets passed.

If I get the file, I will send it to you.

I am trying to switch our current configuration from Apache/Tomcat/Mod_Jserv
to
Apache/Tomcat/Mod_Jk. I obtained the source files and built mod_jk.so.
I removed the include of JServ.
I have a few questions and a problem. When tomcat starts up it generates
mod_jk.conf-auto. Where do I put customized JKMounts?

It appears that Apache is starting ok but not sure if Tomcat is. in the
mod_jk.log
I am getting
[jk_connect.c (143)]: jk_open_socket, connect() failed errno = 146
[jk_ajp12_worker.c (152)]: In jk_endpoint_t::service, Error sd = -1

I have read the docs and don't see what I am missing.
Please help!

Thanks for your reply
The weird thing is in our current env does not include those files in the
htttpd.conf file. They are included
in a _Include when we start up Tomcat separately. Would the tomcat.conf
still be read because I noticed that it was including JServ and not Mod_JK
Thanks again for your time

../tomcat/conf/tomcat.conf

Or, once you get a running, stable app server configuration, just point
your httpd.conf include directive to a specific copy of your
mod_jk.conf-auto file:

http.conf:
Include /usr/local/tomcat/conf/copy_of_mod_jk.conf-auto

Hope this helps!

Yes I have started it separately.
Has anyone heard that you can;t use the -Include in Apache.
Note I do NOT include the tomcat info in httpd.conf
I include a copy of the autogenerated file using the -Include command

Alright, at the risk of asking a stpid question - you have started Tomcat
seperately haven't you? Apache wont start it automatically, you'll need
to do it yourself.

RE: Plz - Anyone have any ideas

2001-07-23 Thread Nance, Michael

thanks again for replying
I DO NOT have those lines in my httpd.conf... what I have
in my apache start up is a -Include mod_jk.conf (whcih is a copy of
mod_jk.so.conf-auto)
I receive one message that this won't work but it is the way we do JServ (I
am trying to switch from JServ)
Is that correct?

I'm not certain of the question you are asking, but I am successfully
using Tomcat 3.2.1 and Apache 1.3.19 using mod_jk.so. I have the
following at the end of my httpd.conf:

Include /usr/local/tomcat/conf/mod_jk.so.conf-auto
JkMount /webapp1/j_security_check ajp12
...other JkMount declarations...

Is this what you are asking for?

check server.xml.

Do you have the Ajp13 connection handler activated
(i.e. make sure the following lines exist and are not
commented out)

(note this was from 3.2.2 - don't imagine it's changed)

RE: re mod_jserv.so + New Question

2001-07-23 Thread Nance, Michael

I am actually running Solaris. I will ask you the same question . We have
Apache running with J-Serv and I am trying to
switch it to mod_jk. When we start apache we do a -c INCLUDE ...
tomcat-apache.conf... I was hoping I could switch it
to the mod_jk file althoug one person told me that is a know bug...have you
heard that? Does the

LoadModule jk_module /usr/lib/apache/mod_jk.so have to be in httpd.con or
can it be in the file I include with the -INclude when I start apache?

Thanks

When you say similar, what's the errno?

I'm guessing Mr / Ms OfDogs (or can I call you Isle?) is
running linux and 111 is therefore connection refused. That
error is usually returned by TCP when the port it tried to
connect to (8009) does not have a server on it, so either:

1. you are starting apache before tomcat (don't do this)
2. you're running a slow machine and tomcat didn't get round
to starting the Ajp13 connection handler yet before you started
   Apache
3. Tomcat is not starting an Ajp13 connection handler (i.e. the lines
I mentioned in server.conf are not activated)

Check tomcat's output. You should see

-mm-dd hh:mm:ss - PoolTcpConnector: Starting Ajp13ConnectionHandler on
8009

when you start up. If you don't, recheck server.xml.

Cheers,

JKMount verses old JServ

What is the correct format for JKMount
We are switch from JServ to Mod_JK

with JServ we had
ApJServMount /buy /ROOT

Can I just use
JkMount /buy ajp12

Or how do I do that?

Help!! Apache won't redirect to tomcat

Someone please Help.

I have copied the auto conf genereated by tomcat and included that in
my httpd.conf file with the following line

Include
/opt/pokemon/bin/col_bin/tomcat/tomcat35_322/conf/tomcat-mod_jk-apache.conf

I added lines to tomcat-mod_jk-apache.conf to hopefully recognize my url
JkMount /buy/* ajp12
JkMount /olympics/* ajp12
JkMount /sloc2002/* ajp12
JkMount /maintenance/* ajp12
JkMount /xml/* ajp12

but it doesn't seem to recognize the url

I am getting
[jk_connect.c (143)]: jk_open_socket, connect() failed errno = 146
[jk_ajp12_worker.c (152)]: In jk_endpoint_t::service, Error sd = -1

in my mod_jk.log and no errors in my apache http_error.log

I started tomcat first.

Can Anyone offer some help?

Thanks

This is the command I used to build ...you will have to replace the Solaris
with unix and change the path of apache but give it a shot...note I heard
order IS important

opt/pokemon/lib/server/apache/1.3.12+ssl_0.95-solaris2.70/bin/apxs -o
mod_jk.so -DSOLARIS -I../jk -I/usr/java/include -I/usr/java/include/solaris

you're on Solaris, right?

146 is 'connection refused'.

Your ajp13 handler isn't running. Either:

tomcat isn't started
ajp13 handler is not activated in server.xml.

Yep, that'll teach me to read the email thoroughly!

Whatever happens, it's trying to connect to something that
isn't there.

Backing up, then, is your ajp12 handler running?

Did tomcat mention in its startup:

2001-07-25 09:34:43 - PoolTcpConnector: Starting Ajp12ConnectionHandler on
8007

or similar?

If it did, I'm out of ideas. If not, server.xml should have

or similar.

To add Ajp13 support, copy those lines and change the 12 to 13 and
8007 to 8009 in the copied set.

Cheers,

Dmitri.. I don't think I am getting teh 146 error because I cleaned out my

Where should I check to make sure the 12/13 connectors are started Or is
there something else I should check?

something else that may be worth checking... are apache and tomcat running
on the same box? the default workers.properties assumes they are, so if
you're using that and tomcat is on a different box apache will be trying
to connect to localhost when it should be looking for the box that tomcat
is on... just a thought.

Mike,

Sorry for being forgetful... but what page are you requesting? I'm just
checking that you do have a valid JkMount that will match the page
requested, and that it matches something that can be requested via tomcat
directly.

For example. If you are trying to request
http://localhost/examples/Foo then you should have JkMount /examples
ajp12 or similar in your httpd conf, and also
http://localhost:8080/examples/FooServlet should work. Does this sound
right?

Sorry I haven't completely followed this so I hope I'm not suggesting
things that might've already been suggested.

cheers

2001-07-26 Thread Nance, Michael

Yes, I changed from 12 to 13 to see if that would help.
I have nothing in my mod_jk.log now
I will try netstat -a and see what it says thanks!

Since your original post, the above has changed (ajp12 to ajp13).
What does your mod_jk.log now have?

Also try "netstat -a" after starting Tomcat to check that it is
listening on port 8009 (where ajp13 listens). If it is not,
then your server.xml isn't correctly configured for ajp13, in
which case cut and paste the relevant section and post it here
-- someone might spot something you've missed.

Also check workers.properties -- make sure ajp13 is listed on
the worker.list line and there are a few lines starting
worker.ajp13... (this should all be fine by default, but it
doesn't hurt to check).

RE: Help!! Apache won't redirect to tomcat

2001-07-27 Thread Nance, Michael

Yes the ajp13 connector is in server.xml like this

I did a netstat -a and I got
 *.8009 *.*0 0 0 0 LISTEN

These are my mount commands in a file that I include in httpd.conf (The
file is a copy of the auto-Conf from tomcat)
#
# Root context mounts for Tomcat
#
JkMount /*.jsp ajp12
JkMount /servlet/* ajp12
JkMount /buy/* ajp12
JkMount /olympics/* ajp12
JkMount /sloc2002/* ajp12
JkMount /maintenance/* ajp12
JkMount /xml/* ajp12

There are no errors in mod_jk.log or in my httpd_error.log

the 8080 gets the same thing which is the 404 error

(Again thank you to everyone for your help...I am extreemly stuck here)

Hi again,

Ok, does http://localhost:8080/buy/MLBEventInfo work?

Have you added the ajp13 connector in server.xml? It is not there by
default?

Have you updated workers.properties to reflect your environment?

I think this has already be answered - mod_jk.log - its empty you
say?

I think the first two might hold the answer.

If port 8080 isn't working then you haven't got your web app
setup correctly and the problem isn't between Apache and
Tomcat.

We need to be absolutely clear here. Are you requesting this
URL on the same machine you have Tomcat installed:
http://localhost:8080/buy/MLBEventInfo
Assuming so, is there a "buy" directory in the
TOMCAT_HOME/webapps directory? If not, have you modified
server.xml appropriately? Have you got and
 entries in buy/WEB-INF/web.xml? Posting
them to the list may help.

As a sanity check, does this work:
http://localhost:8080/examples/servlet/HelloWorldExample

Hi! Just curious. Should the 'buy' directory be under webapps or root? Being
new to Tomcat, I played around. When I had my 'buy' directory under
'webapps', I got a 404. But my page loaded when I placed my 'buy' under
'root'.

In this case maybe it would help if you explained your directory
layout.

Also I think you might be looking at the web.xml in the
TOMCAT_HOME/conf directory, e.g., on my machine
C:\jakarta-tomcat-3.2.2\conf\web.xml
but this file is not used by Tomcat at all (try renaming or
moving it and you will see). Hope that helps.

Tried your entries in my Tomcat 3.2.2 server.xml
and the worked fine for me. Note that you may not see the
ports unless you execute "netstat -a".

Since Tomcat 3.2.2 is an implementation of the servlet 2.2
spec, your servlets would normally be part of the
web application, i.e. under "public_html/WEB-INF/classes"
or in a jar in "public_html/WEB-INF/lib". This directory
structure is mandated by the spec.

You can put your servlets on the CLASSPATH and make them
available to all web applications. However, putting your
servlets on the CLASSPATH will mean the servlets can not
access classes found in the WEB-INF/classes and WEB-INF/lib
of your web applications.

Hope this helps.

Help Starting [Tomcat 3.2.2 Solaris] with Apache

2001-08-17 Thread Nance, Michael

I am still having trouble starting tomcat and apche together. Sometimes the
connector will start and sometimes it won't.

To start I include a copy of the tomcat- auto file that I renamed in
httpd.conf. I have this at the last line of my file

Include
/opt/pokemon/bin/col_bin/tomcat/tomcat35_322/conf/tomcat-mod_jk-apache.conf

I have this in the file tomcat-mod_jk-apache.conf ( along with othere
stuff)

#
# Root context mounts for Tomcat
#
JkMount /*.jsp ajp13
JkMount /servlet/* ajp13
JkMount /buy/* ajp13
JkMount /olympics/* ajp13
JkMount /sloc2002/* ajp13
JkMount /maintenance/* ajp13
JkMount /xml/* ajp13

This is from my server.xml file

If I do a netstat -a sometimes 8007 starts sometimes it doesn't but I
haven't had success with 8009 started.

I try to hit my servlet and I get this in my mod_jk.log

[jk_ajp13_worker.c (173)]: In jk_endpoint_t::connect_to_tomcat, failed errno
= 146
[jk_ajp13_worker.c (586)]: Error connecting to the Tomcat process.
