Hi John,

When you get a chance, I am very curious please: How
difficult/expensive was it, to replace the SB3 clock oscillator(s)?
Also please, generally what are some of those currently used
methods/approaches you're thinking about for decreasing interface

...The current flowing through the interconnect shield will induce a
small voltage across the shield, and since at the far end of the cable
the input circuit sees the voltage between the center pin and the

signal you want and gets amplified along with it.

You can get rid of this affect by using balanced interconnects because
the signal the receiver sees has nothing to do with the voltage on the
shield. I'm pretty sure this is why people like balanced better, its
not that the balanced system picks up less noise on the signal wires,
but because its immune to ground current noise on the shield...

In addition to using balanced interconnects when possible, I believe
introducing great quality line-level transformers can be a solution too
- even when using unbalanced interconnects. Both methods defeat the
potential ground loop on the signal line, balance the impedences of the
pos/neg signal lines, and also provide much better EMI/RFI noise
immunity (as I understand it - please do correct me if I'm mistaken).

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Brightness Logic

2010-06-10 Thread fcm4711

Hi guys

Thanks for all your helpful information. I think I found the issue. As
you already figured out there are two channels. Channel zero measures
visible and infrared light whereas channel one only measures infrared
and is meant to compensate for the infrared part in channel zero. The
manufacturer of the ambient light sensor provides a formula to
calculate a lux value from the two channels. It looks like the formula
is incorrect when there is only infrared light reported on channel one
(channel_zero = 0 and channel_one 0).

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Thumb Drive

2010-06-10 Thread garym

What format is the music in that you're trying to move to the thumb
drive? mp3, FLAC? Should be simple if either of those. Just copy the
files to the thumb drive, make sure they are really there with the
thumb drive attached to your computer and then plug into the TOUCH. But
you'll need to then tell the touch through the menu that you want to use
the internal server (TinySB) and the attached USB drive for the TOUCH to
then scan the drive for files, etc.

And if it has the artwork embedded into the file (when you ripped it or
edited the tags) or has the artwork stored in a file within the same
directory as the album, the art will work.

Do you stream flac natively to the player ? no transcoding to wav/pcm

And no old custom.convert.conf files on the server ? or any weird

can NOT turn them back on with a remote right?
Yes, if I press the Off button on the physical box, then no remote would ever
turn them back on.
If I press the standby button to put devices into standby, then a remote can
switch the device back on.

That's how most consumer devices are.

And I don't recommend it. You lose many of the advantages of using
squeezebox players by doing these things. I much preferred my
foobar2000 interface for managing music (or itunes for that matter),
but after playing with squeezeboxserver webui and the squeezeplay
interface (which mimics the controller or TOUCH interface), I find that
I'm just as happy. And all the players are working as intended rather
than simply showing WAV INPUT coming from a computer, which by the
way may or may not have a bit perfect soundcard, is doing resampling
from 44.1 to 48, etc. etc.

Bottom line, it is not as simple as just saying winamp, please send
all my stuff to sb players instead of the SbS system.

The SB3 and Touch connectors are the same. Even the power supplies are
interchangeable.
The only catch is that the SB3 power supply will only power the Touch
as a player, to use Touch's USB port to power a USB device requires the
actual Touch power supply.

Make sure the music files are DRM Free, then just open iTunes and
