[SlimDevices: Touch] Password problems - From a newbie
I've just bought a Touch but I have not connected it to my broadband yet due to password trouble/ misunderstandings(?) The touch discovers my network connection but it is asking for a password (WEP 64-bits encryption - 10 digit password) or (WEP 128-bits encryption - 26 digit password). The password I have is unfortunately 13 digits (all numbers). How can I fix this problem? Do I need the password for the router? -- kjetilfa kjetilfa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40815 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82435 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Password problems - From a newbie
My guess is that your password is in ASCII format and the Touch asks for it in Hexadecimal format. Luckily, you don't need to be bothered with the details. 1. Just go to www.mikezilla.com/exp0012.html 2. Enter your key in the ASCII Text field and click. The HEX value appears in the below field. 3. Enter this into your Touch, ignoring the percent % signs. -Skinny -- Skinny This sentence says less than a list of audio equipment. [SlimDevices: Touch] Music File Formats (from a new user)
Greetings from a new Squeezebox touch owner. My question is about music file formats. I have been using mp3's and aac's for years. Just fine for portable units and car audio. I am planing to use my new Touch in an audiophile grade stereo system. I haven't started the task of copying my complete CD collection in full quality to a hard drive. I have started using a ripping program called EAC (exact audio copy). I can write the files as flac, or wav. with the price of storage nowadays, I'm leaning toward .wav files. Is there any advantages, or disadvantages to either? will the Touch or the SBS program recognize flac tags, and/or wav tags? (Is there such a thing as .wav tags?) Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Music File Formats (from a new user)
Welcome to Squeezebox world! I'd vote for FLAC. It is still lossless and offers far better tag support. As your collection grows, that becomes a bigger and bigger issue. I've done back-to-back comparisons of WAV vs FLAC as well as CD to FLAC and I find no difference in sound quality. Of course, that's one of those subjects where there is no shortage of opinions. In that light, perhaps it is worth it for you to spend some time running a few experiments and then do what makes the most sense to you. -- mlsstl mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82444 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Music File Formats (from a new user)
FLAC ! Tagging is crucial to a good squeezebox experience and lossles is lossles . btw sbs transcodes wav to flac anyway to save bandwith on your local network. This can of course be disabled but a lot of work for nothing . And FLAC could be sent as wav to player to with some fiddling, but that is also unnecessary . Btw FLAC also supports embedded artwork. Level -5 is good enough compression. Also make a folder structure like artist/album/track put a folder.jpg or cover.jpg with the artwork in the folder. People hear way to much stuff comparing digital audio. FLAC is very well tried and tested. If you encode with -V (verify) parameter you test the file while you are encoding it. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE for the rear ch. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] sample rate issues
Hi Gents thanks for your feedback but the mystery continues. I do not seek a higher sample rate than what is native to the CD, the Flac encoder is the standard WINAMP version and as far as I can see you cannot vary the rate, even if there is some way of doing this I am not, therefore all my tracks should be the same rate, so In theory I should either be able to play none, or all .. -- Toad Toad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40807 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82418 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Depending on your version of winamp the standard WINAMP version may not be up to FLAC standards. See this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45998. Your specific symptoms are different, but given that Winamp has been known to use non-standard FLAC it's at least worth checking out. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Screen Responsiveness
Hi- I don't find it too responsive. Rather I find it too small for its intended use. On the more crowded screens (such as an album song list or playlist) it is easy to accidentally press the wrong line, as they are close together. Also the buttons like next and repeat on the Now Playing screen are too close together, and the wrong one is also often accidentally pressed. In addition, I think to really be useful from across a room (even about 3m), the screen needs to be significantly larger. All that said, since I sit close to the Touch at my listening position. I liked it enough that I sold my Duet controller, as it became clear to me that it had become just a paper weight. -- firedog Tranquil PC fanless WHS server running SqueezeServer; SB Touch slaved to Empirical Audio Pace Car; KRK Ergo, MF V DAC3, MF X-150 amp, Devore Gibbon Super 8 Speakers; Mirage MS-12 sub; Dual 506 + Ortofon 20 (occasional use); sometimes use PC with M-Audio 192 as digital source. WinAmp is a great program for many things, but ripping is not one of it's strong points. If you want to get serious about your lossless music then you need a serious ripper with great error correction and standardized formats. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Review in upcoming Stereophile issue
The comparisons with the Oppo BDP-83 suggested a little experiment. First, I listened to two recordings, one a physical 24/96 DVD-Audio issued by HDTapeTransfers and one a 24/192 download burned to DVD-Audio, using the Oppo as a transport with its digital output connected to the DAC in my Cambridge Azur CD player. Then I listened to the straight downloads of the same recordings, this time using the SBTouch as a transport feeding the Cambridge Azur DAC through its digital output. I also altered the order of these comparisons. To my ears, the sound quality was noticeably better with the Touch, more lifelike, with more air, more musical. If the Oppo is in Stereophile Class B (albeit presumably on the basis of analog outputs that were deemed to be mediocre enough to justify an improved SE version), where might this little experiment suggest the Touch should be classified? [SlimDevices: Touch] Stutter at startup on 24/96 FLAC
Hi. New guy here with a small issue with my Touch. I searched a bit, and I see some discussions on this, but no resolution other than maybe it should be gone in 7.5.1 (it isn't). When I first start playing a song in an album that is in flac format at 24/96 (level 5 encoding), the song starts playing for a couple of seconds, then stops, displays re-buffering and then starts back up after a couple of seconds. After that, the rest of the album plays fine. This only happens with 24/96 flac, not 16/44 flac. It doesn't always happen. Maybe 50% of the time. I can't seem to pin down why it happens some times but not others. I think I am doing everything the same. The Touch uses a wireless (Wi-Fi) link to my router. The NAS is wired (ethernet) to the router. I tried changing the settings on the Advanced - File types page from the default: File format FLAC Stream Format Decoder FLAC Native MP3 flac/lame PCM flac To Stream Format Decoder FLAC Disabled MP3 flac/lame PCM flac and to Stream Format Decoder FLAC Native MP3 flac/lame PCM Disabled but neither setting helped.
