Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch As Pre-amp

2011-01-30 Thread Mnyb

At least compare with Touch :-/ Tube magic *shiver* .

Directly driving the power amp possibly via good attenuators such as
endlers.

But looking at the specs I see that it has an analog input ! very good
and the tube out can be bypassed too as it has an normal output, very
very good.

So you can hook up the Touch both ways analog and digital and compare,
note that output level is probably different so you have to adjust
volume to make sure you compare at the same level.

It takes a good DAC to beat Touch a very good DAC some say ?

Getting a preamp can be a good move in itself , but is that one up to
the same level as your nice looking power amp.

Well you have to try and see what you get :)

If on a really tigth budget I would look for a passive preamp as an
option

[SlimDevices: Touch] SqueezeBox Touch firmware

2011-01-30 Thread ElPedro

Hello,

I wanted to know which is the latest firmware version of the SBT?
My squeezebox runs with version 7.5.1 r9218 and it's seems that some
newer versions are existing? Are they only beta version or not? And if
not how to install them. Update firmware menu tells me that I run the
latest one.

Thanks in advance

[SlimDevices: Touch] Browsing Artists: Incorrect sequence

2011-01-30 Thread psch41

Hi,

I need your help on a sorting issue:
All artist names in my music database are of the form first name
last name, e.g. Buck Owens. Consequently, when browsing thru
Artists on my SB, I see my artists in alphabetical order, based on
their first names.

That is - not always...
Some of my artists appear out of order, mostly (always?) sorted by
their LAST name. I've checked the appropriate tags and could not spot
any difference between these and those of other artists shown in
correct sequence. Nowhere in the tags (or the filename) is an artist
name written like Owens, Buck.

Can anybody help me understand what's going on, and how to fix this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Instructions for connecting USB DAC to Touch

2011-01-30 Thread indypants

Hi John, I've got a brand-new SBT and have just tried implementing your
mod in order to connect up to an async USB DAC (Audiolab 8000CDQ). I'm
getting no sound at all over USB, and it is still coming out of the
coax. Below is a dump of some of my files. I'm guessing the status of
stop in the stream0 file is not a good sign. My SBT firmware is 7.5.3
r9283 (it updated itself immediately that I turned it on).

Can you offer any advice as to a possible cause of my problem? I
wondered if it was worth me trying your modified firmware, if you could
point me to it.

Many thanks in advance,
Tim

Hi aubuti,

thank you for pointing me in this direction. At the moment I am having
some connection issues, every time I open a folder in WinSCP the

I was able to change the value of noGenreFilter from 0 to 1. I
restarted the server and there where more albums under classic but its
still showing empty on the last browsing level.

Nevertheless, its good to know about the settings in this file. Are the
meanings of these settings explained in the wiki or do I have to find
out what they do by myself?

Kind regards,

[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezeplay,Touch, Joggler,Track selection

2011-01-30 Thread Editorp

A question specifically raised through running Squeezeplay on a Joggler,
but assume this is also true of squeezeplay on PC or a Touch?

I run my squeezeboxes (4)in sync most of the time just switching on and
off whichever player as I need.
If I use the joggler to switch a particular player off, I am then
stuck! The screen I am then offered is only the wallpaper with a single
button to turn that particular player back on again!
I have to use another external (to joggler) method to switch off
individual players (IR or PC UI) ( having already switched the
Joggler/Squeezeplay over to the new player I now wish to control.

Have I missed something here? is this a function of Squeezeplay itself?
so cannot be resolved, or part of the Joggler implementation?

and…

Is it possible to reverse the track selection modes so that a “touch
and hold” plays the track and the short “touch” brings up the menu?
Currently if you accidentally just touch a track you wipe the current
playlist you may have just built.
If you reversed the modes then if you accidentally just “touched”
instead of “touch hold”, you would simply bring up the menu, which
you could either then close or even just press the “play” option.

If the above post is familiar to you then it is because I asked the
same question on Tarkan's blog who did such a fabulous job of making
the Joggler as controller a nice easy install, even I could do it.

It really is a terrific app for it, and at £50 off ebay the joggler is
a steal.

Apologies if the track thing has already been asked, couldn't find a
reference to it elsewhere in Threads.

P

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Browsing Artists: Incorrect sequence

Tks for the suggestions.

In fact I'm using mp3tag. And I've read the Wiki on setting tags. I'm

you use MP3Gain, which I do). I also store cover art within the music
file (removing cover art however does not help to fix my sorting

I guess I shall try deleting my APEv2 tags, in order to find out if
this has any influence in the sorting order of my SB Touch.

Am I the only one experiencing this feature???

Any further ideas?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Instructions for connecting USB DAC to Touch

2011-01-30 Thread cocamegadose

Hi everyone,

Joel, i had the same problems with clicks and pops particularly on big
files (.m4a, .wav files, not so much on mp3, nor radios, nor spotify),
with Wifi, or ethernet.

I changed some parameters in the kernel, and change buffer values based
on http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/ recommendations : its really
better, noticeably less clicks

This is what I do :
create a new file that will be start on boot : vi
/etc/init.d/rcS.local
put these lines :
echo 2048 /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/max_user_freq
echo 10 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_min_granularity_ns
echo 10 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_latency_ns
echo 50 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_wakeup_granularity_ns
echo 10 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_rt_period_us
echo -1 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_rt_runtime_us
echo 1 /proc/sys/kernel/sched_compat_yield

then add the x right : chmod a+x /etc/init.d/rcS.local

Edit the files /etc/squeezeplay/userpath/settings/SqueezeboxFab4.lua
and /usr/share/jive/applets/SqueezeboxFab4/SqueezeboxFab4Meta.lua. I
changed alsaPlaybackBufferTime et alsaEffectsBufferTime to 50
instead of 2. This value might be extreme, I really don't know. You
can raise the default value step by step if you prefer.

Remember to backup these files before. And keep in mind that those
files will be overwritten on each firmware upgrade.

Then reboot the Touch.

[SlimDevices: Touch] wrong album art for some albums

2011-01-30 Thread SlimPvC

This week I finally replaced my (still flawless) SB2 for the Touch. I
assumed the Touch could do everything the SB2 could, so I was suprised
by some things I found that I could do no longer (like configuring the
home menu, but I'll get back to that in another thread).

But since the album art shows in the Touch, there's something bothering
me that I already noticed in the server before (but ignored since the
SB2 doesn't show artwork).

For a fairly great number of albums in my collection, the album art
that is available seems to be replaced by a standard album (in my case
of Weird Al Yankovic, a venomous twist of fate :-)

For these albums, there is the right art available in the
directories, but it does not show. All MP3's have the artwork embedded
and the folders contain additional folder.jpg

There are also folders without album art, these just show the 'no album
art' image, like they should.

I cannot find out why this particular image is shown in these cases.
Tried a full rescan but that did not help.

Anyone noticed this and has any suggestion?

Bye
Peter
