[SlimDevices: Touch] Best way of storing the cover-art?
Sometimes I have problems with finding the cover-art (SBT and Synology NAS) SO I would like to know what is the best way to store the cover-art: as a jpg in the same folder as the music or embedding it into each file? -- Lapiovra Lapiovra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45340 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86747 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Best way of storing the cover-art?
I don't think one is more foolproof than the other. Squeezebox Server has always struggled to find and display artwork. But SBS 7.6 (in beta testing) is much better than previous versions. I prefer to use cover.jpg files in the album directory, as I think they're a lot easier to manage than embedded images. If you want to replace a cover it's a simple matter to replace a file. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86747 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I find that embedding the artwork is rock solid, at the expense of more disk space used. It doesn't require a full rescan to spot changes to artwork this way, as it will detect the changes to files after a regular scan for new and changed, so is definitely the simplest way to manage your artwork. -- paulster paulster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23073 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86747 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Any advice on how to make the Touch play nice? En Anglais? Cheers. Hello, Squeezeboxes, the Touch included, do not talk UPnP. At least not yet. They require a special server software called SqueezeBox Server (SBS) running on a computer within the network for playing your local files, or to connect to MySqueezebox.com (MySB) online for internet radio / online music services. The Touch has its own TinySBS which can be used when connecting a storage device to the USB port, or using a memory card. The reason it sees the VortexBox is that it does in fact run SBS among many other things. Just try on the browser on your pc: http://[ip_of_vortexbox]:9000 and you should see the SBS Web UI. Now, it may be possible, by manually configuring the Touch, to connect to the Samba share on your Fritz NAS device, but that is not how it officially is intended. You would need SBS running on your NAS. I don't know if it is possible. -Skinny -- Skinny This sentence says less than a list of audio equipment. I think you are confusing www.MySqueezeBox.com (MySB) and SqueezeBox Server (SBS) on your computer. Each player can only be connected to one server at a time. Each server has it's own web UI control. Your player is on MySB if: - you go to MySB web UI Players and your player is listed as Connected - you navigate player to My Music and it tells you to switch to SBS server - MySB web UI Remote Control actually controls the selected player Your player is on SBS if: - you navigate your player to My Music and your music is there - SBS web UI actually controls the selected player Your SB3 will tell you which server it is connected too when viewing the Home Menu. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86696 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

When the metadata is written to a FLAC file it can be truncated right at the end of the metadata itself, or it can be written with some buffer space to allow for updates. Depending on how a FLAC file was created and what last edited it, I've had adding a single character to a track title cause a complete file re-write whereas on other occasions adding a larger image was just able to use the buffer space available. Essentially, you can trim your FLAC files down to be just the metadata, no spare room and then the music, so if you do that then of course having the image embedded is going to increase the size of the files. I don't worry about it though, even though I use high-quality artwork in my files. It's only a bit of an issue in my shadow MP3 library when I want to copy some stuff onto an iPod Nano (and quite why we have one of those is beyond me anyway) when the size of the albums limits how many you can fit on. The disadvantage of filesize was completely outweighed by the fact that SBS works perfectly with artwork in this setup, and also that my shadow MP3 library (maintained by flac2mp3) would also transfer over all the images seamlessly, which further means that iTunes automatically updates the images. It would actually be reasonably easy to write a script to traverse down the directories and call metaflac to embed the cover art in each flac file in directories which have a cover.jpg file. If so, then it becomes a question of trading off any perceived SQ benefit in shifting the decoding to the server vs. having (or deleting) the large embedded art files. As an aside, that mod can be one of a set of (Soundcheck's) mods that some folks here (me included) say have made a noticeable difference in the Touch's SQ, though if done one at a time, people may or may not perceive any differences with an individual mod. -- rgro Rick System information Main: PS Audio Quintet Touch (wired) via spdif coax Rega DAC Marantz PM8003 VA Mozart Grands REL Acoustics R305. It happened on 2 different songs that it had never happened on before. I only remember 1 of them,it was Ella Louie and the album art is 600x600 which I don't think would be considered large. I got the tweak from someone's toolkit 2 or similar. -- edmondwolfman edmondwolfman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40367 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86658 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Cool! paulster;622626 Wrote: It doesn't require a full rescan to spot changes to artwork this way, as it will detect the changes to files after a regular scan for new and changed, so is definitely the simplest way to manage your artwork. You can accomplish the same thing by bumping the mtime on the music files. SBS will rescan the files and the new cover.jpg is picked up and precached. I only use embedded covers where I absolutely have to, and the only software that I've ever used that requires them was iTunes. When I had an iPod I embedded covers in my MP3 mirror library, but since dumping the iPod it's no longer necessary. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86747 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Are you switching the Touch between MySB.com online and your SBS server on your computer? If yes, that is what is causing the updates. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86761 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie with Questions for the Experts
You would probably not hear any difference between FLAC and well ripped MP3's on a $150 computer speaker set. But as with all things audio it is subjective. It's also easy to try for yourself, rip a couple of FLACS and compare them to their MP3 sibling. ;) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83244 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
