Yes - it works for 24/44 and 24/48, but not 24/88.

No, I don't have any other DAC (apart from the DAC in the DEQX).

I'm starting to thing the problem is with the DEQX though...

[SlimDevices: Touch] Trouble getting 24/96 output

2011-08-30 Thread Mike Anderson

I'm having trouble playing 24 bit/96 khz FLAC files, but I'm not sure if
the problem is my Touch or something downstream.

I'm taking the digital coax signal out of the Touch, going into the
digital coax input of a DEQX unit (http://www.deqx.com/). It works fine
for 16 bit/44 khz FLAC files.

When I try to play a 24 bit/96 khz FLAC file, the Touch seems to be
playing the file (e.g. the VU meters move), but the DEQX unit does not
register any input signal.

I'm not sure if the problem is on the DEQX end, or if the Touch is
simply not outputting any signal. Is there some way to tell? Do I
have to do something special with the Touch to get it to output a 24/96
digital signal?

Try to improve WiFi reception by moving the Router/Wifi AP or adding a
high gain antenna to it.
That said, this won't fix MySB outages, though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] One cause of rebuffering on the Touch

2011-08-30 Thread Honeyquince

Hi there,

This is a great thread and gives me hope that my buffering problems may
some day be resolved. on the other hand I'm thrown into a blind panic as
I can only understand about ten percent of what is being said and I
don't get the impression that logitech are hurrying out a user friendly
fix for this.

So maybe someone can give me some pointers. so far I only use my touch
to stream music using the Spotify app via my wireless network (I'm
saving for something like a vortex box when I will rip my cd
collection). So my buffering problem is independant of my pc / network
card setting. Recognising that many people say that wi-fi is less than
optimal for a number of reasons I have tried to set up a wired network
with wall plugs but have run into the well documented problems of
failing to find an address. so I feel that I'm on a perpetual
merry-go-round.

Can anyone give me a pointer as to what could be my next step?

Many thanks - I realy want to like my touch but at the moment it just
makes me want to screa!

Robert

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] One cause of rebuffering on the Touch

2011-08-30 Thread pippin

There is one generally valid recommendation with computer systems these
days:

If you've got problems, DON'T TRY TO TWEAK YOUR SYSTEM.

In most cases, defaults are the best solution and messing around will
not improve anything but make it worse.

Yours is a typical case: I know it's a religious discussion about
whether it will improve your SQ to decode FLAC on the PC but knowing
the Touch a bit I will never believe it does until I hear it which I
don't.
And fiddling with network settings on the PC attached to a distributed
network (as opposed to just a straight cable into the Touch) WILL NOT
alter your SQ, no matter what people tell you. It just won't. Under no
circumstances. Never. Period.

So what you did was two modifications to improve sound quality that
brought you a lot of trouble with zero (or little) benefit.

Sorry, "key" for me means a key on the keyboard, hence the confusion. I
didn't understand the connection to "command".

With "the command is recognized but nothing happens", do you mean the
row turns blue but no new menu page appears? In this case you should
probably tap the row shorter but in this respect iPeng really should
behave just like the iPod App.

The one thing where the iPod App is probably faster is scrolling.

So you are trying to play e.g. an album and you tap a track and then it
often does not do anything?
I mean: you can't really miss the track, even with the fattest fingers,
I mean... it's like 1/4" high and 2" wide in portrait, that should be
big enough so I don't really think it's the problem.

When you hit the track, usually iPeng should switch immediately to the
NowPlaying screen, actual playback could be a bit later depending on
how long the server needs to start the streaming but for me it's never
more than 1/2 s.

You talk about opening a context menu, by "hold"ing a track for 1/2 s
(actually it's a bit less on iOS 4). That's not a simple action but a
secondary gesture. It's not meant to act immediately because then you
could never use the default action, couldn't you. Indeed, if you move
your finger during this time, the gesture is not being recognized, it's
how iOS differentiates between scrolling and holding gestures.
Also, under iOS4 this is an operating system gesture. and I don't
really see why it should work differently in landscape mode and have
never actually experienced that.

When the gesture is recognized, a new menu should open. Now the CONTENT
of this menu can take a bit longer depending on your setup since for the
Song Info menu the server compiles information from various sources but
usually it's no longer than 1s for me.

And my server is slower than yours.

Using Song Info from the current playlist is a bit different, that can
be a little bit more sensitive.

The App does indeed behave a bit more sluggish in the first seconds
after start because it still loads a lot of information from the server
then.

The one disclaimer is that I never tried iOS 4 on a 2st/second
generation iOS device because the only one I still have of these is the
one I use for iOS3 compatibility testing.

I am using the ipeng App, which I brought from Itunes for £6.+

Key command, I mean when I touch the Ipod's screen to select an
input/option/song on the touch screen.

The best way I can describe this is when I view in portrait mode it's
like using an old 'button' type remote which button is slightly faulty.
Like a faulty button I have to position my finger over the song/album
until it recognises my input, where as in landscape mode this is not as
much of a problem.

May be my 'sausage' fingers are just to large for the ipod touch
screen?

As well as Itunes, which I now understand why Itunes is more
responsive. I had the mediamonkey app for my Ipod, and this was more
responsive than Ipeng.

I understand why Itunes is more responsive now.

I got my Squeezebox touch from a guy who was selling it due to the fact
he found it not as responsive as he liked, he is now using Sono's which
he finds so much more responsive the the SB/Ipeng, why is this?

Notice that several improvements have been made in scanning and artwork

However I do not know how big an improvement it provides for a Touch.
On my x86 server a fullscan became 3-3,5 times faster, but that
includes the introduction of SQLite in SBS... Touch have SQLite all

[SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6.1 issue with tags.

2011-08-30 Thread tmauceri

I have a SBT with VBA. I have set up my database so that all
compilations are listed as "Various Artists". I have close to 100 of
these ripped in FLAC(mostly by the VBA some by EAC) and edited with
MP3Tag, when editing was needed to conform with my database. Prior to
my 7.6.1 upgade all of these titles showed up under "Various Artists",
after the upgrade about 1/3 of them show up under "Various Artists". If
I sort by albums they are all there, but not associated with any Artist.
Artwork is all there also. I looked at a few of the no shows with MP3Tag
and the Artist is listed as Various Artist, so the Artist tag looks
fine. I Know 7.6.1 is more tag sensitive than previous versions but I
can't determine what I need to fix. I have done many "clear and
rescans", it doesn't fix the problem. I have noticed that before the
upgrade a "clear and rescan" took about 20 min. After the upgade it is
more like 5 min. I was wondering if the SBT isn't doing a full "Clear
and rescan"??? Any input to my dilema would be greatly appeciated.
Thanks!!!
