Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Power Cord Adaptor for SB Touch
Thank you, Apesbrain. Youve helped me many times in the past. Thanks Actually, as you may have read in the thread, I have another Touch that I was using elsewhere. It actually was not used much. So, I moved that Touch to the main stereo that has the DAC. This kit will be used with a small Bose disc player ( on AUX). It will connect to the Bose via RCA. (no DAC). Also, I can wait till February or March or whenever your recommendation is available. Thank you. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Is a new Touch or Boom in the future?
Yes, you are probably correct. However, is there any evidence to say that Logitech has no long term strategy? I can understand the need for Logitech to simplify the Squeezebox (although I,personally, appreciate the more complex but more functional Squeezebox over the UE). But now that Logitech has indicated that they will make the UE able to transform to a SB, it seems to me that they want to satisfy all customers. That's what I read into itnot that they're phasing out their hardware, which seems very speculative at best. I guess I have a more positive opinion ; maybe I'm very naievemaybe I have some "wishful thinking"; I just don't see evidence that Logitech will not stand by their loyal customers nor honor their commitment to their customers. Integrity still means something. Maybe I am very very naieve, but I have faith in Logitech's professionalism and their integrity. I've seen nothing at this point to negate this. Who knows? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Turn Touch off and avoid stand by(sleep)?
Ok, I understand. Here's the situation. I now have the Benchmark DAC(which is very nice... Thank you garym). The dac can go into standby mode if it does not receive a signal after 15 seconds or so. But, it's not going to sleep as its supposed to and I thought that it might be because the Touch is not fully "off" and a signal is still affecting the DAC and therefore not allowing the DAC to go into standby mode. ( I think this may be one of my "dumbest" postssorry). On another note the BM DAC really does improve the sounds. I'm VERY happy with it. Thank you! I an thinking to get the Benchmark DAC 1 USB and using it for my main stereo system with the SBTouch. Could someone tell me the proper sequence of the connections involving the DAC /Touch/preamp? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Worried about of the future of LMS..................
As many know from previous posts of mine, I truly LOVE the Squeezebox ecosystem. I have beautiful music everywhere and it is hard for me to leave my house. If, and I emphasize IF, I would ever lose any part of that ecosystem(Touch equivalent,Synchronization, Boombox equivalent, etc.), I would have no other choice to choose another manufacturer and provider (SONOS). I do not want to do that because the music quality, costomer service and functionality provided by LOGITECH has been awesome (IMHO)! I just know that LOGITECH will not let me or others down. I believe in them. "Ikabob and others suggest they trust Logitech. Trust walks in slowly and runs out quickly. My trust which has built up in Slim and then in Logitech over the last 10 years just ran out quicly in the last few days. I'll not be rushing to buy anything Logitech (other than a spare Touch) for a long time." Regarding me "trusting LOGITECH", yes, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and I am hoping that they don't let its loyal customers down. I guess the consumer will learn just what are LOGITECH'S "true colors". LOGITECH'S stock seems to be maintaining itself and perhaps may even have a sight increase. Any successful company respects the people who respect them and does NOT take its customers for granted. If a company "throws loyal customers under the bus" they begin to develope a REPUTATION and will slowly lose CREDIBILITY which ultimately will lead to failure. I just DO NOT think LOGITECH is made this way. I guess time will tell and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. They have provided me with a music ecosystem that I truly LOVE and so do so many at this forum. Ethically, I do not think they would take this away from us. Ethics is what successful businesses are made of and LOGITECH surely wants to follow that path. Let's see. Thank you both for your replies. I'm not sure where I'll go with this, but I'm leaning toward a DAC. The Transporter can be purchased for $999 which is not the $600 that Garym suggested as a preferred price. The Rega DAC is one that rgro likes according to many posts I've read. The price is a bit more that I'd like to spend but if it is truly exceptional perhaps I could be persuaded. It's not offered at Amazon and I'd like to have a trial run with whatever DAC I decide on. If you could be specific because I am not a computer whiz I would appreciate it. Also, will I lose a lot by using Tiny instead of Pc? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Music really IS better sounding after changes
Rick, that is very good information that you have given to those who might wish to improve the fidelity of their home audio system. I definitely do believe that you actually have made some positive improvements. I ,too, have recently exchanged some of my interconnects to a higher quality and have thought there was some slight improvement. In that my router and pc are far removed from the heart of my system, it would not be possible to change to an ethernet-only connection. As for Soundcheck's mods, I will have to locate that thread. Thanks for sharing your information . I am glad that you are enjoying such a nice system! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playing sky fm premium on touch
alnthen you are not getting the premium feeds. I do not understand why.I have Sky.fm and it was all automatic. Are you sure your usernames are the same for the app and for your Sky.fm registration? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playing sky fm premium on touch
I am not sure what the touch screen says... Sorry. But if you play a Sky.fm station and go to "more information" and see if your bitrate is 256KPSes then you are getting the premium feed. I do not use the touch screen so I do not know if it says "premium" or not. I use mainly ipeng as a controller and there is a notation above the screen indicating Sky.fm premium. All my feeds are 256kps. One other thing, if you like Sky.fm their sister station is a jazz station called JazzRadio.com. It has some great jazz stations in 192kps. It is a premium station for about $5 / mth. For me it's worth it . Hope you find out if you're getting the premium feed from Sky.fm. -- Ikabob Ikabob Squeezebox Touch w/SBS; SAE Amplifier;Marantz Pre-amp;ESS Heil Speakers(main listening speakers plus various additional speakers). Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playing sky fm premium on touch
I believe that since the Swueezeboxes are dedicated players forSky.fm, it is not necessary to manually copy and paste stations. All that is necessary is to register with Sky.fm, choose the 192kps selection. Then install the Sky.fm app from the App Gallery at mysqueezebox.com by entering your username and then configure. The Sky.fm premium stations will then be yours. I am using my iPod touch right now. In addition to providing me with ipeng remote control, (for which I purchased it), additionally, I have access to the Internet, access to my email account, access to many free applications(eg, Pro/college football scores and progress,AOL instant message, the weather channel, etc, etc. Therefore, for me, the least expensive 8 gb iPod was worth it. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch - first impressions and questions
I think it is too bad that you feel that strongly about those couple things. I , on the other hand, love the touch and the screen is adequate for my use. The functionality is superior and the angle is not a problem for me(the estblished angle keeps the center of rotation lower and therefore affords less falling potential). By keeping the screen smaller, you also can keep the cost lower too. I think there is a setting for larger characters to the screen if visibility is a problem. Some day they may produce a "Squeezepad" that is largerbut I am sure it might also be more costly too. The functions ,to me, that are most important are fidelity, reception, stability, versitility, reliability, display clarity, touch responsiveness, ability to synchronize, etc. For me,screen size is not important nor is the angle. I can live with them. So, enjoy the Squeezebox Touch and the beautiful music, talk radio, athletic events, podcasts,USB compatibility, and all the assets it can bring. I hope after you analyze everything you may publically be a little more positive about your purchase and the relatively short time you had to wait.
