the Spotify app on Macbook or iPhpne. While LMS is running I get requests popping up every minute or so to allow Spotty to receive incoming connections. I have checked my Firewall settings and Spotty is enabled. iPeng can access Spotify on SBT whilst this is happening. The You might need to add the latest version of the binary in the firewall settings. the direction of the iPeng app being the issue. When I switch from MySqueezeBox to MacBook Pro as the music source in iPeng, MSB no longer recognises the SBT but LMS does. I then get persistent requests to allow Spotty to accept incoming connections which don't stop until I stop LMS. I don't know what else to check Can you uninstall for a moment? Would LMS then work as expected? And did you tell macOS to allow Spotty to be accessed? Before I became a homeworker due to the pandemic, I built a small server for my office with a Raspberry Pi (piCorePlayer, LMS) and a hard drive (a copy of my music files), which might be a cost effective and better performing alternative to using the tinyLMS in the Touch. If you want to play more than a few dozen albums, eg. online radio, podcasts, services, you're definitely better off using a Pi setup. "TinyLMS" (as we used to call it) on Touch doesn't have SSL support (needed for many online radio stations, podcasts, music services) or web UI, no plugins, and always too little memory. Now Playing as the top item. To get the actual Now Playing screen, I have to hit the botom left remote button. Oddly, touching Now Playing on the Touch screen doesn't take me to the screen I want, but just reduces the font size of the Home Menu! And I don't think there's a way of telling the Touch to display the Now Playing screen from the LMS interface. The Touch has two different UIs: the touch UI, and what was called the 10ft UI. The latter is being used when you control the device using the IR remote control. It has larger fonts etc. If you use that, then go and touch the screen, the first touch would trigger the UI change. Therefore you see the fonts being resized. I believe you can disable this behaviour somewhere in the Touch's Settings/Display menu. Hi, I'm trying to follow the advice on this thread re client ID. I've got as far as clicking 'Create an App' but the next screen tells me to input App Name and App description. I don't know what to enter here. No > instructions have appeared. Oh, I just responded in another thread... so you're already working on this. App name and description can be whatever you want. This is for you, so you remember what the client ID is for. Can I just ask if it's possible to revert to the original Spotty menu rather than everything being added to my playlist folder? I would like to me able to search for artists and albums on Spotty but I can't do this now. I keep having to press 'backwards' on Spotify to restart the track or I just get minutes of silence using the Spotty app. Is there a popular fix for this issue? There has been a lot of noise around Spotty recently, caused by the fact that Spotify started rate limiting us. Hmm I have to find the discussion around a similar issue with the Radio. I'm wondering whether we're actually hitting the same bug with some older Touch firmware where the version comparison would fail. Confirmed. The firmware distributed by mysb.com would have the buggy version comparison... SB Touch players which have never connected to a LMS 7.8 or later thus would fail to connect to LMS8. Ouch! I've added a change to 8.0.1 which would handle the issue the same way as with the Radio (without patching the firmware). It would allow Touch to connect to LMS8, and on first connect it would update the firmware to the fixed 7.8.0 version. If you checked Settings/Advanced/Updates on the Touch itself (while LMS was running), would you see an update to 7.8.x? It's actually "Software Updates". You could download the firmware to an SD card or USB stick to update the Touch from it. 1. All of a sudden, the Touch is too quiet. By that I mean that its startup chime is barely audible, as are the noises that it makes when you search or turn it off. Is this a sign that it has issues? Settings/Audio/Effects/Volume on the device itself. 2. This is probably an amateur user issue, but lately when I turn on the PC that I use to connect between my hard drive and the Touch, LMS loads. After that, I have a devil of a time getting the SB to connect to either the HD or LMS. I uninstalled and reinstalled Spotty the other day. Same issues today- I had to reboot the SB and my PC to even get the SB to connect. "connect to either the HD or LMS" doesn't make sense. You should probably give a little more info about your setup: do you run the "Tiny" LMS built in to the Touch? Or the one on your PC? What version? 3. Lists load very, very slowly on the SB. And tonight, when I tried to select an artist on my list (David Boswell), the SB would buffer, and then bring up selections for David BOWIE. I did disable MOG at some point. After which I was told that while MOG was dead in the US, it still existed in some way in NZ or Australia. But that's been years ago. Might be dead by now, too... Yes, and what about Napster, Deezer, Amazon CD store, MusicIP, Orange Liveradio and Slacker, etc? Of these I believe all but Amazon are still very much alive. Amazon CD store should work, too, as it's not a service, but some implementation on our end. But whether it's used or not, I don't know. More info is always welcome. I will start with downloading the newer versions of LMS. Should I go for 7.9.3 or 8? I must mention that LMS8 is the latest and greatest, of course, but it's far from finalized. It's stable as of today, but this could change at any time. If you want to take the risk, I'd suggest you check the status before updates. The last observation shows the problem appearing after the Ethernet checking (which is fine but this is not advertised as such and not exited on) immediately followed by a Wlan check (which seems to be defective here and this hangs that SBT). That's a good question - to which I don't have a good answer. Hi, So i got my Raspberry Pi4B and burned the piCoreplayer on the SD card and got it running on the rPi4B. However the LMS never loaded on the rPi4B, I followed several threads on how to install LMS, including creating a new larger partition on the SD card, etc., but never got it to install the LMS, I always ended with an error message. As this has nothing to do with Spotty I'd recommend you post to a new or pCP/LMS installation related thread. On this SBT, trying to start the connection on the command line (no home screen!) just gives: Can't you do another factory reset with the ethernet cable unplugged, then try to configure it as WLAN? => Is there really no way to restore an older firmware via the ssh-connection? The problem appeared after a simple factory reset. The firmware you're using is what probably 90% of all Touch units out there use. I doubt downgrading will help. Suggestion - Perhaps there is a low level ethernetworking interoperability problem that you can avoid by plugging in somewhere else. if you have another networked ethernet hub/switch then try plugging it into that one instead ... e.g. a spare port on your ISP router. Good idea! Once you get past the language selection part then ... maybe things will I think the device hanging is not due to the language selection, but above failure. I tried to figure out what triggers the setup route, rather than just going to the main menu. Haven't found it yet. But I'm pretty sure it should be feasible to set some flag in some config file to get there. start working when you replug it back in the place where you want it (or you can enable wifi). Many thanks for your instructions. Formerly, I just transferred the messages logfile with the SD-card (did a clean shutdown before removal). Now I could set up the SSH connection with your instructions below (BTW. you have to add the parameters "-o KexAlgorithms=+diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 -c aes256-cbc" in either the ssh- or scp- command lines on Linux) and it gets more comfortable... Ah, right. I've got that in my ~/.ssh/config file... always forget about it. |Filename: messages-20200526-1910.txt I compared this to a fresh file from one of my own Touchs. The biggest difference indeed is what you posted before, some failure around "halfDuplexBugVerification" - whatever that is... But as this is related to Ethernet, could you please try to use wlan instead? And I'd recomment you remove the SD card and only insert it when you want to transfer something. Yes there is maybe something wrong there, after loading the plugins and starting the network polling (see extract at the end). I have no idea how you copied that log snippet, but could you please get us a full copy of /var/log/messages? I _believe_ you can enable SSH using the following steps: - "vi /etc/inetd.conf": there should be a line for ssh at the bottom of the file. I updated my post in the meantime. Here is the delta-information. I'm known not to see edits, as I follow the forum via mailing list... I did a DNS-check with "nslookup www.tsr.ch" which perfectly works. As would "ping www.google.com", I guess? Finally doing an "nslookup mysqueezebox.com" gives 6 IP addresses back. what about fab4.squeezenetwork.com? Which other IP-parameters should be checked from within the SBT? Not directly IP related. But anything interesting in /var/log/messages, in particular towards the end of the file? Is there any script that can be edited in order to directly go to the home screen upon booting? There certainly is, but I don't know where yet... How comfortable are you navigating and editing in the console using vi? Has there been an update recently? USB-Keyboard: Great Idea! By typing *Alt-F3* gives a terminal ;););) on which I can login as root (default PW: 1234). And which accepts "ifconfig"... but where is the "|" located on the US-Kbd.-layout in Shift-7? Is the network connection set up correctly? Can you ping eg. google.com? order to type "ifconfig | less" so that it is possible to read the details (any hints on how to to get these otherwise)? No need for less. There shouldn't bee too many interfaces? P.S. I also have an SD-card inserted with the former release (fab4.bin), how could I initiate the FW-downgrade on the command line? Could you please double-check that the IP configuration sent to your DHCP clients would be correct? In particular DNS and gateway settings are obviously crucial. Did you try manually configuring IP on the Touch? checking? Is there any hidden serial port or JTAG (eventually to be soldered) on the board to access the device and to force the home screen to appear? Not 100% sure, but rather positive. I personally do have a unit with serial connections soldered on (but haven't used it in years). I'm not sure though whether the port was part of the production units. I have one album in my entire collection that duplicates all of the tracks and plays each track twice - a Spotify version and the lossless version (AIFF). I am on LMS version 8.0.0. Latest and greatest LMS8? If I drill in to to the album, I think I have identified an issue - it is the only one that has an external ID. All albums imported from a music service would have an external ID. How can I remove that ID or stop LMS picking it up? I have tried PerfectTunes ID Tag and Kid3 and neither pick up this external ID. Do you want to disable all online library integration? Boom will only play Pandora through mysqueezebox.com NOT LMS. It logins to LMS but will not play Pandora. This is my preferred way to run LMS (with --nomysqeezebox.com) as I don't need any of it's services, did so for years, but it seems to upset a few folk on these forums. :( That would surprise me. I only mentioned at some point that having LMS talk to mysb.com was the only way for me to "prove" the liveliness of the SB community. If the management saw that there were only a hand full of users, they'd quickly shut down mysb.com. But when I can prove that we still have a gazillion users out there, people are impressed - and scared by the consequences a shutdown might have. The SB Touch *does* have it's own inbuilt server (Tiny SB), you don't need to have Logitech Media Server (LMS) running on a PC, nor do you need to connect to mysqueezebox.com. But please note that this will not have any advantage over using mysb if you don't plan to use local music files. And it does not help with mysb's limitations mentioned by bpa. Rescaned library nothing on LMS. What exactly did you do? Reset touch to factory setting. No help. No need to do this. It's purely a LMS issue. Deleted LMS form setting pane and re installed 7.9.2 1578727069 LMS now shows library BUT touch does not. first I try to reset touch. No help next I rescan library, once finished LMS show ZERO tracks loaded. next I delete LMS and install latest version. And that seems to work for a while. This doesn't answer two out of my three questions... You should really look in to the Catalina issues. Thanks Michael. I'll have to get the exact file next time this happens. It will usually work for several days in a row, then after a week idle , I'll need to delete and re install LMS. What would make you believe you'd have to re-install? Would a restart not be good enough? The message is something like" cant read etc by the Who" it then trys to play the next song with the same message. I'm running 10.15.2 Catilina. Cant remember if I was having these issues before or after upgrade. I have made no changes to anything that im aware of. Did you see the discussion around Catalina and some of its changed behaviour? With external disks you sometimes have to give LMS special permissions to access all disks. Curious, with touch as a server, would the option to switch to mysb.com still be available on the menus? This would address the https streaming. No, it would not, as mysb can't stream those either. Rescan is not an issue, but the "random crashes" are concerning to me (my friends inability to tolerate, restart things). Do they "just happen" or is it when you try to do too much? I think it's just too low on memory. Anything that increases memory usage can be risky. Using the image screen saver is a safe way to kill TinyLMS. Or larger libraries. Try it. A 32GB SD card or 64GB flash drive costs under $10 so not much to lose. The biggest issue with "Tiny SC" is speed (library rescans, in particular), but it may be adequate for your friend particularly if the card/drive is updated infrequently. Besides speed and random crashes due to running out of memory I'm seeing one more important issue (compared to LMS on a different system, not mysb): more and more music services and radio stations require https streaming.
