Your router is a tiny computer. Your SB Touch is a tiny computer. Sometimes things just get messed up in *any* computer and a reboot solves that. Most of our other computers get rebooted if not daily, then at least every so often. But the router and the SB player might go months and months without a reboot. And SB players do seem to have some issues (by design) in dealing with DHCP servers in routers that some other network connected devices don't have. I don't undertand the technical reasons for this. But I can say that I give fixed IP addresses to all my SB players and VB server and anything else that is on my network (and doesn't leave my network). And I mean a true fixed/static IP address, not simply a "reserved" address within my router. This said, while everything is working, I'd go into my router setup and go ahead and "reserve" the IP addresses that all your connected devices have used. p.s. to setup a fixed IP address in the TOUCH, you need to temporarily turn OFF the DHCP server in your router. Then restart the TOUCH and go through network setup for the TOUCH. It will fail to get an IP address then scroll down on that screen on the touch and choose "enter IP address manually". In your case it would be: IP Address: 192.168.0.xx (where xx is an address that is outside the range handed out by your Router...you should see this in your router. Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS server: 192.168.0.1 in Touch you may have to enter 3 digits, i.e., 192.168.000.001 When done, go back into your Router and turn DHCP server back ON. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

hi the virgin hub i believe is a modem/router combo. its certainly taken the place of our old modem and seperate router, and is part of an upgrade package from virgin, along with tivo box etc. no guest netwok involved. ive looked in the diagnostics as you suggest, and everything seems fine. all pings and ports say 'ok' and mysq.com has an ip address and so does LMS. its 192.168.0.5, so a local ip address is that? thanks for any help you can give me. cheers sadexpunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

hi, im back again unfortunately :-/ your advice has helped me so far to understand the different servers etc, but this seems to be a new problem now. as before, itll play my music, and if i switch library to mysq.com, i can play digital radio from my favourites etc. but whe i switch library to my laptop again, it wont play my favourites in there. it says it cant resolve ip address oplm.radiotime.com. whereas before, youve advised me to try typing in different addresses and saving as favourites, this time i thought ill do a fresh search, and select it from 'internet radio' 'search' and then type in the station. but it wont allow a search on it even. says the same error message, so it cant be a wrong address this time. it just wont even search for 6 music :-/ any advice on this one please? ive tried rebooting LMS, powering off the virgin hub, and switching squeezebox off/on, but nowts changing :-/ thanks sadexpunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

well, i said id report back when it stopped working properly, so.. here i am again :-) im having the same problems again. i can play locally stored music. i go to play 6 music and it just says fetching track details and hangs. if i go back to favourites and choose onmysqueezebox, com it says theres an ip problem. i did as you mentioned before and set up the 'test 6 music' favourite and changed server and tried it. it didnt work. yet it did work on the original 6 music station stored there insted. so i did get it working for a few seconds before going back to see if it would do it again. same prob on my local server. went back to try the SB server again in networking, and again, itll play the original 6 music favourite, but not the test 6music. so. im playing it at present, but it hasnt sorted my problem. id like to be able to sort it so i understand it and stop having to ask on forums :-) this is my ip situation... if i go to control panel on the laptop server and diagnostics, LMS server ip is 192.168.1.2 mysqueezebox.com server ip is 176.34.103.98. all the pings are ok. information tab says my logitech media server status, server ip address is 127.0.0.1 on the touch itself, i go to settings, advanced, diagnostics, server info and mysqbox.com ip address keeps changing every few seconds. in general info my firmware version says 7.7.2 r9663 in settings, advanced, squeezebox info it says LMS 7.7.2 r3389 i get mixed up with all these ip addresses and what they relate to, but wondered if any of this makes any sense to you? i just want it to work!! :-/ thanks for helping me. sadexpunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] connection problems - whats going on?????
I think your Touch is connected to your LMS server. Just to prove that Tpuch plays the stream OK and avoiding any LMS issues, I suggest 1. Make the following URL a mysqueezebox.com Favorite and give it a unique name (e.g. Testing 6Music) so you won't mix it up with any other existing favorite. *http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r6_aaclca.pls* 2. Make Touch connect to mysqueezebox.com using Touch *Settings/Advanced/Networking/Switch to mysqueezebox.com* 3. Select the new favorite just created and play it. Report what happens. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

OK to have multiple servers (and just use switch library to move from one to the other). But easier if both are using the same version of LMS (e.g., 7.7.2). Regarding the online LMS server (mysqueezebox.com), you are correct. You NEVER need to connect to it as long as you are running one of your local servers. It is useful for folks that don't want to run a local server (but of course they are then limited to internet radio and online music services (MOG, Pandora, etc.). You do need to enter your "mysqueezebox.com" credentials, even in your own local LMS server, as this is what allows your server to talk with services such as Pandora, MOG, Spotify, SiriusXM, etc. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

thanks mate. ok, just moved my switch library to home menu, so thats one job done :-) youre right, i sometimes have 2 servers running, is that a problem? and if so why? i have LMS running on my laptop, and my wife has it on hers too, this is the other option in the switch library. as for the upgrade, mine is 7.7.2 already, same as SB online, so why would it ever ask me to downgrade?? thanks for the tip on ignoring it tho when it prompts me, ill try that next time. and as for switching servers, i never use online server anyway. i suppose thats because i dont know why i would :-) i must admit i dont understand all this server stuff, and dont really understand what SB online does. my knowledge is limited to knowing that i have my music on my laptop, my server on my laptop, SB touch and laptop pick up my wifi and send music or internet radio requests to my amp and speakers. i see SB online as an option but dont know why or when i would ever use that instead of my local server. thanks for your help sadexpunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=53382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] connection problems - whats going on?????
Move your "Switch Library" menu item to your Home menu, then you can select exactly which library to connect to right off the bat. Do you have two LMS instances running? The upgrade loop is usually caused by the two servers (LMS on your computer and MySB.com online) being different versions. If so then you will indeed be prompted to upgrade/downgrade upon each server switch. To avoid this: - update your LMS to 7.7.2 (same as on MySB.com) - ignore the update (swipe screen from L to R), only need to do this when connected to one server - don't switch servers staying on only LMS or MySB.com toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
