I don't think so. can't hurt to try though.

p.s. most people have a router with 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (my
instructions above were 192.168.0.1, because his router IP was the "0"
address)

Does just unplugging the ethernet from the Touch when restarting it have
the same effect, i.e. get it to ask about static assignments?

No problem. By the way, only a couple of years ago, everything I wrote
in my above explanation would have made no more sense to me than reading
something written in Ancient Greek, and I don't know anything about
Ancient Greek! My understanding of home networking was, "plug in, turn
on, it's magic" (The moral to this story is that I learned a lot
more on this forum than only Squeezebox stuff.)

I don't think this is a "problem" that needs fixing in SB per se. Your
router is a tiny computer. Your SB Touch is a tiny computer. Sometimes
things just get messed up in *any* computer and a reboot solves that.
Most of our other computers get rebooted if not daily, then at least
every so often. But the router and the SB player might go months and
months without a reboot. And SB players do seem to have some issues (by
design) in dealing with DHCP servers in routers that some other network
connected devices don't have. I don't undertand the technical reasons
for this. But I can say that I give fixed IP addresses to all my SB
players and VB server and anything else that is on my network (and
doesn't leave my network). And I mean a true fixed/static IP address,
not simply a "reserved" address within my router. This said, while
everything is working, I'd go into my router setup and go ahead and
"reserve" the IP addresses that all your connected devices have used.

p.s. to setup a fixed IP address in the TOUCH, you need to temporarily
turn OFF the DHCP server in your router. Then restart the TOUCH and go
through network setup for the TOUCH. It will fail to get an IP address
then scroll down on that screen on the touch and choose "enter IP
address manually". In your case it would be:

IP Address: 192.168.0.xx (where xx is an address that is outside the
range handed out by your Router...you should see this in your router.
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS server: 192.168.0.1

in Touch you may have to enter 3 digits, i.e., 192.168.000.001

When done, go back into your Router and turn DHCP server back ON.

No, there could still be some sort of network problem. You may have done
this already, but if not:

1. turn everything off (unplug your SB players, turn off computer or NAS
running LMS, unplug modem and router)
2. plug in modem/router, let fully start
3. turn on computer/NAS let fully start and let LMS fully start
4. plug in SB players and let them "find" your LMS

This system reboot often solves a multitude of problems.

hi

the virgin hub i believe is a modem/router combo. its certainly taken
the place of our old modem and seperate router, and is part of an
upgrade package from virgin, along with tivo box etc.

no guest netwok involved.

ive looked in the diagnostics as you suggest, and everything seems fine.
all pings and ports say 'ok' and mysq.com has an ip address and so does
LMS. its 192.168.0.5, so a local ip address is that?

thanks for any help you can give me.

sadex,
You have a network problem somewhere. What is this "Virgin hub"? Is it
a router? Modem/router combo? Guest network involved?

Go to LMS > Control Panel > Diagnostics, what is reported for ALL pings,
ports, IP's?

hi, im back again unfortunately :-/

your advice has helped me so far to understand the different servers
etc, but this seems to be a new problem now. as before, itll play my
music, and if i switch library to mysq.com, i can play digital radio
from my favourites etc. but whe i switch library to my laptop again, it
wont play my favourites in there. it says it cant resolve ip address
oplm.radiotime.com.
whereas before, youve advised me to try typing in different addresses
and saving as favourites, this time i thought ill do a fresh search, and
select it from 'internet radio' 'search' and then type in the station.
but it wont allow a search on it even. says the same error message, so
it cant be a wrong address this time. it just wont even search for 6
music :-/

any advice on this one please? ive tried rebooting LMS, powering off
the virgin hub, and switching squeezebox off/on, but nowts changing :-/

thanks

Move that "Switch to MySB.com" menu item to your Home menu, lot less

when in LMS, when you click on internet radio in the webGUI menu, do you
see menu items like "staff picks, local, music, talk, sports, world,

Thanks, but that's not it. I've tried re-entering both in the web

logged into the website with it). When I try to click over to a stream,

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] connection problems - whats going on?????

2012-07-09 Thread sadexpunk

well, i said id report back when it stopped working properly, so..
here i am again :-)

im having the same problems again. i can play locally stored music. i
go to play 6 music and it just says fetching track details and hangs.
if i go back to favourites and choose onmysqueezebox, com it says theres
an ip problem. i did as you mentioned before and set up the 'test 6
music' favourite and changed server and tried it. it didnt work. yet
it did work on the original 6 music station stored there insted. so i
did get it working for a few seconds before going back to see if it
would do it again.

same prob on my local server. went back to try the SB server again in
networking, and again, itll play the original 6 music favourite, but not
the test 6music. so. im playing it at present, but it hasnt sorted
my problem. id like to be able to sort it so i understand it and stop
having to ask on forums :-)

this is my ip situation...

if i go to control panel on the laptop server and diagnostics, LMS
server ip is 192.168.1.2
mysqueezebox.com server ip is 176.34.103.98. all the pings are ok.

information tab says my logitech media server status, server ip address
is 127.0.0.1

on the touch itself, i go to settings, advanced, diagnostics, server
info and mysqbox.com ip address keeps changing every few seconds.

in general info my firmware version says 7.7.2 r9663
in settings, advanced, squeezebox info it says LMS 7.7.2 r3389

i get mixed up with all these ip addresses and what they relate to, but
wondered if any of this makes any sense to you? i just want it to work!!
:-/

thanks for helping me.

I think your Touch is connected to your LMS server.

Just to prove that Tpuch plays the stream OK and avoiding any LMS
issues, I suggest

1. Make the following URL a mysqueezebox.com Favorite and give it a
unique name (e.g. Testing 6Music) so you won't mix it up with any other
existing favorite.
2. Make Touch connect to mysqueezebox.com using Touch
*Settings/Advanced/Networking/Switch to mysqueezebox.com*
3. Select the new favorite just created and play it.

Report what happens.

For the player itself, all it says is Squeezebox Touch
wifi is virgin media coming from virgin modem through netgear router.
my laptop picks this up fine.

yes, im using LMS but not sure what you mean by local? its on my laptop
if thats what you mean. i have 6 music stored as a favourite on both
LMS and mysq.com, but always usually access the LMS version.
everything says OK in the settings.

just something that may be of relevance. LMS said i needed to right
click and run as administrator, which i did but kept saying the same. i
rebooted laptop and have now got it working, but again it was after a
few attempts.

thanks

On your Touch - check Settings/Adanced/Diagnostics/Server Info - any

Use Web interface.

Mouse hover on Favorites and then click the pencil icon on the RHS.

Select "New Favorite" and copy and paste the above URL into the URL box;
add in the name e.g. BBC 6Music and then click Save.

Not a problem at all, as long as you keep both LMS servers to the same

2012-04-19 Thread sadexpunk

sorry mate, not techy enough to understand that :-D

what i can tell you is im connecting through the server on my laptop.
the squeezebox connects to my laptops name, then i go to favourites
where 6 music is stored. i select it, and thats where these messages
start. id say 50% of the time it messes up but i ususally get there in
the end after much pressing of 'back' then trying again.

thanks

You could also try adding below url to your favourites and using it:
BBC 6 Music -
mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/6music/6music_bb_live_eq1_sl0#slim:noscan=1

403 message comes from the station which means BBC didn't want to
service your request.

If your player is playing through mysqueezebox.com then it is possible
that BBC geo-ip blocking issue is still messing things ups (it starteded
a few weeks ago but I thought no longer affected UK users) as mysb.com
server may not be UK based. If you connected through your local LMS
(i.e connected to My Music) then BBC will service request.

How are you connected to BBC and what format ? The geo-ip blocking
seems affect WMA more often than AAC.

Your best bet would be to use Triode's BBCiPlayer plugin / applet
(depending on whether you are using LMS or mysb.com) and choose AAC as
the preferred format.

excellent (your reply, not the answer :-), thanks a lot. im getting to
understand it a bit more now.

any idea about the connection failures with those messages at the start?
id have thought this morning would be a clean sheet with the changes i
made, but it still came up with 'http://1.0 403 forbidden 6 music' and
'stopped' at first. i had to go back and then press 'play' again to get
it to start.
and sometimes it says 'now playing' or 'fetching track details' when it
isnt playing.

thanks

Free spotify won't work on squeeze boxes. Free pandora will work.

2012-04-18 Thread sadexpunk

thanks, just checked and her software was indeed 7.7.1 so ive updated
it. hopefully thatll stop the upgrade issues :-)

as you mention spotify, can i just ask if you know why it wont work on
my sytem now? i started by paying the tenner a month option for a trial
period, but just found that i didnt use it, 6 music is just so good
thats nearly always on now :-) but anyway, it worked fine, but now ive
downgraded to a freebie account (lower quality plus ads) it wont work at
all. does this sound right? surely it should still work whatever
account i have?

thanks a lot

Maybe your wife's LMS server is version 7.7.1? OK to have multiple
servers (and just use switch library to move from one to the other). But
easier if both are using the same version of LMS (e.g., 7.7.2).

Regarding the online LMS server (mysqueezebox.com), you are correct. You
NEVER need to connect to it as long as you are running one of your local
servers. It is useful for folks that don't want to run a local server
(but of course they are then limited to internet radio and online music
services (MOG, Pandora, etc.). You do need to enter your
"mysqueezebox.com" credentials, even in your own local LMS server, as
this is what allows your server to talk with services such as Pandora,
MOG, Spotify, SiriusXM, etc.

thanks mate.

ok, just moved my switch library to home menu, so thats one job done
:-)

youre right, i sometimes have 2 servers running, is that a problem? and
if so why? i have LMS running on my laptop, and my wife has it on hers
too, this is the other option in the switch library.

as for the upgrade, mine is 7.7.2 already, same as SB online, so why
would it ever ask me to downgrade?? thanks for the tip on ignoring it
tho when it prompts me, ill try that next time. and as for switching
servers, i never use online server anyway. i suppose thats because i
dont know why i would :-) i must admit i dont understand all this
server stuff, and dont really understand what SB online does. my
knowledge is limited to knowing that i have my music on my laptop, my
server on my laptop, SB touch and laptop pick up my wifi and send music
or internet radio requests to my amp and speakers. i see SB online as
an option but dont know why or when i would ever use that instead of my
local server.

thanks for your help

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] connection problems - whats going on?????

2012-04-18 Thread toby10

Move your "Switch Library" menu item to your Home menu, then you can
select exactly which library to connect to right off the bat.
Do you have two LMS instances running?

The upgrade loop is usually caused by the two servers (LMS on your
computer and MySB.com online) being different versions. If so then you
will indeed be prompted to upgrade/downgrade upon each server switch.
To avoid this:

- update your LMS to 7.7.2 (same as on MySB.com)
- ignore the update (swipe screen from L to R), only need to do this
when connected to one server
- don't switch servers staying on only LMS or MySB.com
