Re: [Trac] Upgrading trac from 1.2.2 to 1.4

2022-12-02 Thread Bill Buklis
I figured it out. It was the script loading tracd that specifically
required trac version 1.2.2. I'm not sure why it needs that. Perhaps it
doesn't. I updated the version in the script and now it seems to load as
expected. I may have a couple more questions as I make sure nothing is
missing, but for now it seems OK.

Python version is 2.7. It is the only version installed.

I turned on INFO logging and the log also shows that it is starting
version 1.2.2. The traceback is odd in that it shows a path to .py
files located in a folder that does not exist. For example:

File
"c:\users\\appdata\local\temp\easy_install-jdu2wl\Trac-1.2.2-py2.7-win-amd64.egg.tmp\trac\env.py",
 line 942, in open_environment
     needs_upgrade = env.needs_upgrade()

where is similar to an actual user folder, but
different. Regardless, the mentioned egg or py file can't be found
anywhere as near I can tell.

If I restore the original trac folder (copied before upgrade),
everything is happy again, but, of course in version 1.2.2.

Did I miss a step somewhere?

[Trac] Report queries

2013-10-17 Thread Bill Buklis

In the select statement for several reports I've noticed these fields:

changetime AS _changetime
description AS _description

What does this actually do? These fields do not show up anywhere in the
report as far as I can tell. I gather the leading underscore makes this
some kind of special field. But, where does it come into play? In the
report that has Full Description, the description field instead has a
trailing underscore as well. This appears to put the description onto
its own line. That makes sense. But, with the others, is there are any
purpose or is it just wasting query time?

Thanks,

Bug? or setup issue?

I've noticed that every time I modify a ticket I see that message for a

that is new that I never saw in pre-1.0 versions. If you refresh the

Just to clarify: the problem was when the component was selected by the

can't be be blank. I can't recall if I tried specifically selecting the

Looking at thew new ticket page now (after fixing the default_owner

it showed before the upgrade. I didn't pay attention to it. It was
probably blank.

also
select an appropriate owner. This used to automatically assign the

the owner isn't getting set even though the component field is

If your issue was only that the component owner was not being set as
the ticket owner, then I would suggest: There was an issue recently on
IRC which was solved by removing the `[ticket] default_owner` entry
from trac.ini. If the entry is not present, or if the somewhat awkward
value default is entered, the default owner will be the component
owner.

http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracIni#ticket-section
http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracTickets#DefaultValuesforDrop-DownFields

However, since you also say that the owner is not being set when
explicitly selected by the user, I am not so sure. Just a guess, but
maybe this problem is somehow caused by default_owner being a blank
entry. Please let us know what your entry for `[ticket] default_owner`
is, and we can take it from there.

Thanks, I did eventually figure it out after some extensive google
searching. Sorry for not updating on the list. That was exactly the
case. There was an entry for default_owner and it was indeed blank.
I've never added or modified this field, so I can't say how or when or
even if it was changed. I changed the entry to default . I'm
guessing that the behavior of this field changed with the 1.0 version
and this is why component owners were no longer working. Don't know...

Anyway all is good now. Thanks.

Re: [Trac] Re: Even though path is correct, I get an error bash: git-receive-pack: command not found.

2012-06-28 Thread Bill Hernandez
What you are suggesting does make a lot more sense, which I interpret as
follows :

( 1 ) Avoid adding to any $PATH if possible
( 2 ) From the existing $PATH, see if there is a suitable place place some
symlinks
( 3 ) from the results below, the most logical would be /usr/bin

Note : If I had fully understood what you were trying to get across earlier,
with LDAPv3 in mind, i.e. users without home directories in my server setup :

( a ) I could have avoided having to create a home directory for myself on the
server.
( b ) Also avoided having to create a ~/.bashrc with the appended path
( c ) If I wanted to grant access to ssh git remote on my server, to other
developers, I would have to repeat steps ( a ) and ( b ) for every developer
which would be a giant pain.

Now that you point this out again (for like the third time), I can see great
value in your approach.

The biggest problem that I had, and didn't know I had, was the difference
between the interactive and non-interactive bash shells. Once you put me
onto that concept and I began to research it on the web, I realized the
difference between ( A ) and ( B ) below :

( A ) non-interactive bash shell echo $PATH result

$ ssh roscoe@192.168.1.45 'echo $PATH;'

   --- /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

( B ) interactive bash shell echo $PATH result

$ ssh roscoe@192.168.1.45
Password:

server:~ roscoe $ echo $PATH
  ---
/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin:/usr/X11/bin

server:~ roscoe $ which git
  --- /usr/local/git/bin/git

server:~ roscoe $

This has been a great learning experience for me. I will use your approach,
i.e. create symlinks to the git stuff in /usr/local/git/bin and put them in
/usr/bin which is already in my non-interactive $PATH, and delete the home
directory and ~/.bashrc file.

Thanks a million for all the help !

 Of note on the above - symlinking all the git stuff into /usr/bin would have
 also fixed the problem. In fact, that's where most Linux distros put it these
 days, since everyone installs from the package manager and it doesn't put
 anything in /usr/local (since that's generally for manually installed things).

I probably should have done more research, but it seemed straight-forward
enough so I didn't bother. After receiving your reply I googled 'OSX git

 As a general case, rather than continually adding to the path and growing it
 ever longer, I tend to symlink things in to the correct spots.

I do this a lot with things I am familiar with, but never even thought of it
this time...

 So:
 cd /usr/local/bin  ln -s /usr/local/git/bin/* .

 It also has a nice secondary effect of avoiding problems like this.

We're using 0.12. I don't have a lot of plugins installed and the ones we do
seem to work fine. The only one I had to remove was the ticket delete
plugin, but it was unnecessary anyway. I upgraded from 0.11.5 primarily for
the new table formatting codes. These are absolutely excellent. I really
like the new formatting styles and options in 0.12. The automatic comment
preview window when modifying tickets is really nice. I do wish they would
extend that to the description field in new tickets and for editing wiki
pages. Perhaps for 0.13?

Is the old/current status on the Trac wiki based on aspiration rather than

I'm using smartcards with Apache for user authentication. It works
fine, but Trac is receiving the Distinguished Name concatenated to the
Common Name e.g.

C=US,O=Acme Inc.,OU=North America,OU=PKI,OU=EMPLOYEE,CN=CODER.JOE.B.
0123456789

instead of just CODER.JOE.B.0123456789. Ideally, it would be better
to map the Common Name to something more simple (i.e. Joe.Coder).

Is this something that should be done in Apache so that it doesn't
have to reimplemented when Trac is upgraded? Or is there way to
configure Trac?

TIA,

Bill

RE: [Trac] New Ticket and View Ticket edit pages after upgrading to 0.12

2010-09-20 Thread Bill Buklis
Then maybe you forgot to deploy the static resources?
(http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracCgi#MappingStaticResources).

To be clear as I know there are many possible environments and
configurations, my setup is on a Windows using standalone Trac running as a
service. I don't believe there are any static page issues in this
scenario, so I did skip step #5 (Refresh static resources) from the upgrade
steps (http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracUpgrade). There is only the
path/to/env in my setup (simply set up as C:\Trac). There is no separate
deployment path (at least not that I'm aware of).

So, I'm guessing then that this isn't the issue? Or maybe there is something
I need to do here?

Thanks,

Ok, that's correct. Well, you have to investigate step by step. First
inspect the source of the individual .js and .css resources that come with
the ticket page and see if they match the version from the code (compare
with http://trac.edgewall.org/browser/tags/trac-0.12/trac/htdocs). If the
.js files have the expected content, then maybe the javascript code doesn't
execute as expected, have a look at the Javascript console of your browser.

That helped. All the files were the same. Turns out it was the ticket delete
plugin that I had installed a while back. Disabled that and the proper page
shows up. I've removed the plugin since it's no longer necessary with 0.12
and besides I've never really needed it anyway. I should've noticed that the
page loaded with errors. I could've fixed this a while ago.

Thanks,

-- Bill --

[Trac] New Ticket and View Ticket edit pages after upgrading to 0.12

2010-09-17 Thread Bill Buklis
I recently upgraded from 0.11.5 to 0.12. This is my first upgrade and I've
never used anything before 0.11.5. As far as I can tell the upgrade went
smoothly. I've noticed on the trac demo site that the Create New Ticket and
View Ticket pages have some new features on them, e.g. resizable controls.
However, on my pages they still look identical to the 0.11.5 version. I
haven't customized these pages other than adding a couple custom fields to
the ticket records (via trac.ini). On the other hand, the Edit Wiki page
features the new controls. Any idea where I can look to correct this issue
and use the updated page format from 0.12?

Thanks,

 Try emptying your browser's cache, or do a Shift+Reload on the ticket pages.
 This should re-load the .js and .css files.

Nice thought, but unfortunately, it's not that simple.

RE: [Trac] Tables in multi column wiki page

2010-09-16 Thread Bill Buklis
Unfortunately no, that's indeed a limitation of #!table in 0.12. Wait for
0.13?

I wonder why that's a limitation. Since the system supports nested tables
now, it would seem a reasonable thing to do. Some technical issue preventing
this from being done easily perhaps?

A workaround would be to wrap your setup in some div (e.g. #!div
class=borderless), and do something appropriate in your site.css (e.g.
.borderless table { border: none }).
Alternatively, you can easily achieve multi-column set up by using #!div
style=float: left, width=45%  and such.

Thanks. I ended up using #!div class=borderless and that worked. It works
a little better for my purposes than using #!div style=float:left. There
was one interesting oddity with using float:left: The inner table was
indented from the header text. In itself not a big deal and actually looks
somewhat appealing, but I don't see why it treated the table position
differently than normal. Curious.

If you want this much visual control, a wiki is probably the wrong tool for
the job. Remember, a wiki is not a replacement for a CMS.

I agree, wiki is not a replacement for a CMS and I don't need it to be. Most
pages I have are very simple. This particular one was a little unique.
Combined with all of the new formatting tools available in 0.12 I was able
to get very close. There is a lot of formatting power available now. By
doing this I was able to take two separate, but related, pages and combine
them into one for easier reference.

[Trac] Tables in multi column wiki page

2010-09-15 Thread Bill Buklis
I'm trying to create a wiki page that contains tables side by side as in a
two column page format. I'm using trac 0.12. In order to do this I set up a
page using nested tables. The following sample code works successfully with
one caveat. The outer table (which is otherwise not visible) is surrounded
by a border. I'd like to remove this border. It seems logical to wrap the
code using a {{{#!table processor with appropriate styles, but trac errors
out with the message:

!#table must contain at most one table

Is there any way to get around this? Is there a better processor to use than
{{{#!td? Unfortunately because of the way the table processor is
implemented, it seems impossible to apply any styles, classes to the outer
table if there are any nested tables.

Working code with undesired surrounding border:

{{{#!td
style=border:none;vertical-align:top;padding-right:100px;padding-left:20px;
padding-top:20px;padding-bottom:20px

= Left Side Table =

||='''Column L.A''' =||='''Column L.B'''=||

||Some data||Some more data||

||Miscellaneous stuff||More data||

||Useless info||Stuff||

||Even more stuff||Data||

||Another line||Sample||

}}}

{{{#!td
style=border:none;vertical-align:top;padding-top:20px;padding-bottom:20px;p
adding-right:20px

= '''Right Side Table''' =

||='''Column R.A'''=||='''Column R.B'''=||

||Some data||Some more data||

||Miscellaneous stuff||More data||

[[br]]

= '''Second Table on Right''' =

||='''Column R.C'''=||='''Column R.D'''=||

||Some data||Some more data||

||Miscellaneous stuff||More data||

}}}

Thanks,

[Trac] category or not.

2010-03-11 Thread Bill
the problem I met is if i use category it will help make the wiki
organize.

but when I make link to the page I have input sthing like
CateA/CateB/ItemNew, which means I have to check it's full path, and
it's annoying.

Are there any any way to simplify it? I mean either input ItemNew it
will auto search/fill, or when I create CateA/CateB/ItemNew it can
create same page in wiki root as ItemNew.

I am not sure if I make this clear, but that's the way I hope it work.

Initial Update

I wanna make it show the author with bill .

Then I tried http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/7339  with Matt Caron's
suggestion.

then I patch my .11.6's source code, then redo deploy.

as it based on fcgi, so I do
pkill fcgi

to refresh the web. It still show the openid url.
Is the patch in http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/7339 not the right

yes, the full name is set.

 Also, if you're checking in some specific spot which the patch doesn't
 address (there are some, and I don't recall which ones aren't fixed),

[Trac] Attaching multiple trac projects to a single subversion repository

2009-01-16 Thread Done, Bill
At my company we have several subversion repositories, each with its own
trac project. One of the subversion repositories is quite active and now
has about a dozen subprojects in it, all associated with the same
overall software product. Its trac project is quite busy and a couple of
groups would like to have their own trac instance, tied to this same
subversion repository. They could then keep the trac wiki and tickets on
their trac instance focused on a particular subproject. If there were
the original trac instance plus two additional ones, each trac would see
the same subversion repository (which is a 'read-only' operation), but
each trac would have its own, disjoint set of tickets and wikis. It's
the 'disjointed-ness' we are seeking. Any there any unseen problems with
this?

For the current trac instance associated with this repository, we use
SQLite for our trac database, with the database located in the db
directory under that that trac project.

[Trac] How to handle the notification bounce email

Hi, All,

Now, our notification is woking file. My questions is when the

we monitor this kind of error from trac and get a bounce email for

Yes, that what we thought, but after configured the From and Reply, no

in trac.log. Only can see 553 error in SMPT log.

 Generally the bounce message goes to the From or Reply To address.
 Configure one or both of these to go to a mailbox someone checks.

I disabled the SMTP in trac. We use webmin so I took a look at our mail

not send to user properly so I created an alias for that user and those
e-mails went out. Mind you, this user is not associated to the stuff we're

decided to turn the SMTP back on in trac and all of the sudden, everything
worked so maybe that had something to do with it but I don't understand why.

 I know I can send e-mail from the root user on the server to my normal

The first thing to do is to try sending an email from the *same*
account as the web server.

Maybe with something like this

sudo -u www-data telnet smtpserver 25

(www-data should be replaced with the actual Apache effective uid and
smtpserver with the FQDN of your mail server)

[Trac] Creating or updating ticket hangs.

2008-05-14 Thread Bill Williams
We have Trac 0.10.4 running with FastCGI on apache 2.2.6.

Whenever we create or update a ticket, the browser never returns. It just
sits there attempting to refresh. I can hit the stop button and then click
view tickets and either the new ticket or updated ticket will be there so
obviously the create/update part is working. Another thing is an e-mail is
suppose to be sent which never occurs.

I have tried all of the various logging levels and nothing helpful is
logged. I don't see any errors in the log.

Our server was recently updated with the latest version of Mandriva along
with all of the various packages along with Trac (which also came from
Mandriva).

Before the update, we never had any problems so obviously, something in the
new installation is causing a problem but I can't figure out what. All
other aspects of Trac seems to be fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try disabling the SMTP notification (, restart Trac) and give another try.

This issue usually comes from a buggy SMTP configuration/environment.

I installed the python hack for apache (doesn't come in xampp) and I am

[Trac] Re: Idiotic newbie question

2008-05-05 Thread Bill Johnson

 You didn't mentioned that you created project with trac-admin.

 I suggest that you create two base directories for example c:\trac and
 c:\svn

 First create subversion:

 svnadmin create c:\svn\testproject

 Then create trac environment:

 trac-admin c:\trac\testproject initenv

 Fill in other details, when asking for repository you would but
 c:\svn\testproject here.

 And now test with tracd:

 tracd --hostname=localhost -p 8080 c:\trac\testproject

 Now you should have access to just created testproject.

 If it works it is time to configure XAMPP to run all that stuff.

Thank you very much. I saw that in the instructions but couldn't get it to
run. Took me awhile to realize what I had missed (a pesky path environment
variable was all, the one for the python scripts)

I will now trudge on. Seems I can now crash Python 2.5.2 with a single click
. . .

[Trac] Idiotic newbie question

2008-05-04 Thread Bill Johnson
I am a PLC guy, I do html, js, php and mysql, just getting my feet wet in

I am trying to run trac on XAMPP (win32, apache2.5.2) I have followed the
instructions carefully at http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracOnWindows and
reviewed the instructions at http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracInstall

I am positive I have missed a simple step somewhere, as this is what I get
when I open up localhost:8080
Available Projects
And then nothing.

Some notes: I created the project folder as C:\xampp\htdocs\xampp\projects
I started Tracd and the window says:
C:\xampp\Python2.5.2\Scriptstracd --hostname=localhost -p 8080 /projects
Server starting in PID 3588.
Serving on http://localhost:8080/

127.0.0.1 - - [04/May/2008 07:46:36] GET /projects HTTP/1.1 404 -

I have python2.5.2 in my path environment variables, but not the scripts
directory.

I would also like to run Subversion, I have already told it to create a
repository at xampp\projects, but I want to get Trac running first before I
go any farther.

So any thoughts for a moron beginner?

[Trac] SMTPsettings: To: undisclosed-recipients: ;

2007-05-03 Thread Bill Moseley

We are using the trac hook-script ( i.e. closes #123 ), and have trac
setup to send mail for ticket changes.

But, the mail that is begin sent has not To: or Cc: headers:

To: undisclosed-recipients: ;
Date: Fri, 04 May 2007 00:02:59 -

And Trac is setup to send mail to a Mailman list. Mailman traps those
due to no recipient.

Any idea what that is happening and how to make sure there's a To: or
Cc: header?

[Trac] Using milestones like components?

2007-05-03 Thread Bill Moseley

Nice thing about the Milestones (Roadmap view) is how they group
tickets and show that progress bar of completed tickets.

We have a project due data, but would like to break the tasks into
smaller groups that each show their own progress bar.

See any problem with just creating multiple milestones with the same
target date?

[Trac] Re: No such file or directory.

2007-02-28 Thread Bill Salak

I recently had this problem on an RHEL4 box and fixed it by running
ldconfig.

 Hello All,

WOW, in 9 years working with Linux I have never had problems
installing software on Linux like TRAC is giving me.

System RHEL4 Update 4 64-BIT

I have the following installed:

RHEL 4 / Apache 2.0.52 / subversion-1.2.1 / Kerberos Authentication
(This all works fine)

===
TRAC .11 from source
Genshi-0.3.6
python 2.4 from source installed to /usr/local/bin

python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2.0.99_4.el4.at.x86_64.rpm

Am I missing something?

I don't know what to do about the sqlite errors below.

It usually means that PySQLite is not installed properly.

[Trac] Pysqlite not being found ?

This isn't really a Trac problem but I'm hoping somebody here has the

[Trac] Re: Pysqlite not being found ?

2007-02-22 Thread Bill

I've actually seen your problem thread and the later posting on the
ldconfig trick that solved your problem. I had the exact same problem
before this problem and your thread solved it for me.Thanks!

And thanks for replying to this thread but it looks like this problem
is caused by something else.

Yes, through the mod_python.testhandler I was able to confirm:

Python sys.version 2.5 (r25:51908, Feb 16 2007, 16:53:41) [GCC 3.4.6
20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3)]

thank you for your suggestion!

[Trac] Getting need to upgrade error for 0.10

2006-11-01 Thread Bill Williams

I just installed Trac 0.10. I upgraded all of my 0.9.5 trac
environments and everything worked fine.

I am now testing and creating a new environment using the 0.10 version
of trac-admin and after I create the environment, I keep getting the
needs to be upgraded error. I get this through apache as well as
testing with the tracd daemon.

I am using python 2.4.

I'm stumped since my older environments work after I upgraded them.

Any ideas?

Nevermind. I had the peer review plugin configured and it was the one
that worked with 0.9.5. Once I upgraded it, everything is fine.

[Trac] setting basic auth with .htaccess

2006-10-30 Thread Bill Moseley

I'm setting up Trac on shared hosting where I don't have access to
httpd.conf -- I can only use .htaccess.  That means I can't use
Location to enable basic auth for the login link.

My setup is like this: In .htaccess I have:

DirectoryIndex trac
Files trac
SetHandler fastcgi-script
/Files

And trac is a shell script in my doc root:

$ cat trac
#!/bin/bash
TRAC=/home/bmoseley/trac

export PYTHONPATH=$TRAC/lib/python2.3/site-packages
export PATH=$TRAC/bin:$PATH
#export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$TRAC/lib

export TRAC_ENV=/home/bmoseley/swishtrac

exec $TRAC/share/trac/cgi-bin/trac.fcgi

Now, the login link currently goes to:

/trac/login

With httpd.conf I'd use Location /trac/login to enable auth for that
location. But, unless I'm mistaken, I can't use Location in .htaccess.

Can I change the Login link to go to, say, /trac_auth instead? Then
I could just symlink my trac script and use Files trac_login to
require auth.

Hum, something isn't working. With a .htaccess like this:

DirectoryIndex trac
Files trac
SetHandler fastcgi-script
/Files

Files trac_auth
SetHandler  fastcgi-script
/Files

And a doc root like this:

$ ls -l
total 8
-rwxr-xr-x  1 bmoseley pg933504 234 2006-10-26 13:11 index.cgi
-rwxr-xr-x  1 bmoseley pg933504 235 2006-10-26 13:51 index.fcgi
lrwxrwxrwx  1 bmoseley pg933504  10 2006-10-30 20:54 trac - index.fcgi
lrwxrwxrwx  1 bmoseley pg933504  10 2006-10-30 20:57 trac_auth - index.fcgi

Requests to /trac work (so, yes symlinks are ok), but requests to
/trac_auth fail with:

FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server

That doesn't make any sense to me. Not sure why one would work and
not the other. Something odd with fastcgi?

I went the easy route and setup /trac to not require auth and
/index.fcgi to require basic auth.

Then I have two redirect:

/trac/login = /index.fcgi
/index.fcgi/logout = /trac/

which should get me by for now.

But, is there a way to set the login and logout links in trac.ini?
