Re: [Trisquel-users] Internet connection problem
No, the setting in resolv.conf doesn't survive a reboot. I boot once daily and I can live with this workaround until a fix is available. BTW, I got the idea from this StackExchange page: https://askubuntu.com/questions/368435/how-do-i-fix-dns-resolving-which-doesnt-work-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-13-10-s
Re: [Trisquel-users] don't upgrade to backported network-manager or wpa-supplicant
Hell, now i see your topic. At first i thought it was my connection, but my wi-fi was still working. Fortunately, i remembered that yesterday i upgraded network-manager, so i reverted to previous version and all worked again. WPA supplicant can be upgraded, it doesn't break anything.

For those who have neither their system online nor the lower versions of the packages on their disk, these packages are attached to this post. Bring them somehow (a pendrive, for instance) to the offline system, where, in a terminal, you will move them to /var/cache/apt/archives (here assuming the files are in the working directory): $ sudo mv network-manager_1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb wpasupplicant_2.4-0ubuntu6.6_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives Then, chaosmonk's commands will work. Well, except that he forgot to mention that NetworkManager must be restarted at the end: $ systemctl restart NetworkManager @chaosmonk: downgrading only NetworkManager was sufficient for my system, but I imagine the reason to upgrade to a possibly less tested version of wpa_supplicant was to get a newer version of NetworkManager, hence the advice to downgrade both. Am I right?

Correct; I had it stated correctly.

Since the log has several errors that mention your MAC address, I think the problem might have to do with the new randomization of mac addresses. Prior to the update, the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf looked like this ``` [main] plugins=ifupdown, keyfile, ofono dns=dnsmasq [ifupdown] managed=false ``` Now it looks like this: ``` [main] plugins=ifupdown, keyfile [ifupdown] managed=false [device] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes [connection] wifi.cloned-mac-address=stable ethernet.cloned-mac-address=stable connection.stable-id=${CONNECTION}/$(BOOT) ``` So the problem should lie in the new [device] section, the new [connection] section, and/or the missing "dns=dnsmasq" line. (I ofono in the "plugins=" line makes a difference.) I tried deleting only one of the two sections. I tried rebooting after deleting both sections too. Nothing led to any improvement w.r.t. the faced problems.

Deleting both sections of /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and executing 'systemctl restart NetworkManager' does not solve any of the two problems (the DNS not being automatically configured with Ethernet, the Wifi adapter never connecting to the network). Should I still try to remove only one of the two sections? Also, I only executed 'systemctl restart NetworkManager' after updating to the flidas-backports version of NetworkManager. Hopefully reinstalling the previous version of network-manager and wpasupplicant will fix your system. It did: https://trisquel.info/forum/internet-connection-problem#comment-144131 Thank you. This is a recent change so prevent network-manager from disclosing your hostname to the router, which was deemed a privacy issue. If you have not rebooted since updating, try doing so. If that doesn't help, or if you have already rebooted, try installing the old version of network-manager and see if that fixes the problem. $ sudo apt install network-manager=1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.3 Unless you have run "apt clean" since upgrading, the previous version of network-manager should still be cached, so you should not need to be connected to the internet to reinstall. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] Weird text display distortions in ABrowser on Trisquel 8
I observe the same thing on Z61t (another 945GM-based ThinkPad, like X60 series).
Re: [Trisquel-users] how do I increase the available space for this part of my harddrive?
The /var directory consumes two thirds of the partition space. Try to clean it first. When there is enough space on the / partition, then you can perform other optimizations.

[Trisquel-users] Internet connection problem
Hi to everyone! After the last update done today 20th, I cannot have WIFI internet connection in my desktop PC and notebook, both with Trisquel 8 mini. My WIFI modem works perfecly in another notebook with Lubuntu 16.04.6 LTS (free-libre version). Is there perhaps a bug in the update of the network manager? How can I solve the problem with the command lines? I use for my old notebook HP 510 the dongle Penguin Wireless N USB Adapter for GNU / Linux (TPE-N150USB) and for the PC desktop the Penguin Wireless N USB Adapter /w External Antenna for GNU / Linux (TPE-N150USBL), both by ThinkPenguin. Both notebook and desk PC worked very well until yesterday 19th! Thank you for your attention.
Re: [Trisquel-users] how do I increase the available space for this part of my harddrive?
Or instead of encrypting the home directory encrypt the entire drive. Then you don't need to deal with / and /home being different partitions as they are showing in your screenshot and then potentially running low on space with one while the other might still have gobs and gobs of space left. That requires using the netinstall image which, last I checked, has been broken for about 8 months now. Welcome to Trisquel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] how do I increase the available space for this part of my harddrive?
$ sudo apt-get clean Your /var tree is really heavy. What is using so many space there? Moving system unencrypted tree (sda1) to encrypted volume (sda5) is not simple. [Trisquel-users] About tethering
I am trying to connect a Thinkpenguin router to a X60s by tethering iPhone. I have succeeded in it before, it was like: iPhone > (Wifi) > TPE-R1200 > (a LAN cable) > X60s Although I was configuring it randomly, I succeeded in tethering and it has worked well. But since about a week ago, I have not succeeded in tethering in this way. Two dongles (both AR9271) generally work well after I deleted verbose configurations on Indicator Applet Complete (iPhone1, iPhone2, iPhone3, ethernet1, 優先接続1, etc). It is like: A dongle > (USB port) > X60s But I would like to use the router. I don't still understand its concrete benefit though. Would you teach me a basic simple setting/configuration of tethering? I would like this: 1. iPhone > (Wifi) > TPE-R1200 > (a LAN cable) > X60s or 2. iPhone > (USB cable) > TPE-R1200 > (LAN cable) > X60s or I do not want to use the dongles very much though, 3. iPhone > (Wifi) > TPE-R1200 > (Wifi? Ad-Hoc? anyway radio) > a dongle > (USB port directly) > X60s I have followed an instruction page of OpenWRT but failed (IIRC, dpkg did not work in a terminal). LibreCMC and Trisquel seems to have no documents about tethering. Thank you very much in advance.
