Re: [U2] Rgarding ED editor

My 2 Cents: I love a GUI editor, but I've been using Pick/U2 since '82 and
grew up with ED. It's still a very fast, very effective way to check
records and make quick changes.

Doug,

I totally disagree! Yes, once you get used to a GUI editor, ED/AE can be
tough, but it has it's merits too.

One, it's quick - it's ALWAYS available.

Would you honestly invoke a GUI editor to make a quick change to a VOC
entry?

It's a tool of the trade - it needs to be a required learn

FYI, The limit with DC is 255 chars wide - you can change it from the

There may be other emulators which can handle it - but the Universe /unix /

We have a large application that runs in Dynamic Connect... and needs more
in the way of columns.

DC is limited to approx. 132 characters. I believe that wIntegrate (when in
text mode) is the same. We need maybe five times that.

While I have almost concluded that this app needs to be re-written in GUI...
before punting... are there any other angles worth consider... such as
AccuTerm or some other text-based terminal emulator.

Is there a way to do this in DC or wIntegrate?

[U2] UniVerse DOS Command - Batch File Error

2010-11-02 Thread Don P. Nagai
I have a batch file on a server running UniVerse. This file can be executed

If I attempt to run the same batch file using the UniVerse DOS command, the

slight delay (2 sec or so) before the EXIT command is issued and the
system returns to TCL, but the batch file doesn't run.

Yes. I've actually moved the .bat file to the C:\ root directory and

The test have been:

Executing .bat from Windows Explorer - Works OK.

Triggering DOS and typing in the batch command manually - fails

Placing the batch file in a variable and using EXECUTE to trigger it -
fails

This is really weird

For the compressed reports, I send the PCL codes to switch the printer

I try without any compression codes, it only prints the first line of

and send the PCL codes, it just spits out plan sheets of paper.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Already spend 3 1/2 hours

RE: [U2] Extra Form Feed from .prn File Followed by Text

2008-07-11 Thread Don P. Nagai
We're assuming that there must be some sort of form-feed character (or other
sequence that the printer is using to generate a form-feed) but have not
actually checked all of the info due to the size of the prn files.

We were able to eliminate the form-feed by stripping every occurrence of
CHAR(12), but that distorted some of the text box and bitmap output on the
form.

As is usually done, after converting the prn file to hex, we stripped all
the 1B45, 1B252D313233..., 1B266C... printer reset, orientation and paper
source sequences, but we must be missing something...

Help! Im trying to print a form created from Word combined with text.
This method has always worked when creating prn files using a PCL5/5e

and
then sending the trimmed file in RAW format to an HP printer running
either
PCL5 or 6. Its worked fine until now. A new customer has Windows Server
2003 x64, an HP P1505n Laser Jet and the prn files were created with XP
Pro
drivers. Now every time we attempt to print, the form comes out on one
page
and the text on the next page. If we build the prn files for an older HP
model (say Laser Jet 1300 PCL5e) we get a single page, but the text and
portions of the form are garbled. Ive contacted HP and their suggestion
was to use Laser Jet 6L drivers. The print jobs still generated the extra
 form feed.

Do you know that there's an added formfeed, or might there be something
else added which implicitly causes a formfeed? That is, have you looked at
the data that the printer is actually getting, by capturing your combined
output to a file?

[U2] Extra Form Feed from .prn File Followed by Text

2008-07-10 Thread Don P. Nagai
Help! Im trying to print a form created from Word combined with text.
This method has always worked when creating prn files using a PCL5/5e
driver, removing the standard escape sequences that trigger form feeds, and
then sending the trimmed file in RAW format to an HP printer running either
PCL5 or 6. Its worked fine until now. A new customer has Windows Server
2003 x64, an HP P1505n Laser Jet and the prn files were created with XP Pro
drivers. Now every time we attempt to print, the form comes out on one page
and the text on the next page. If we build the prn files for an older HP
model (say Laser Jet 1300 PCL5e) we get a single page, but the text and
portions of the form are garbled. Ive contacted HP and their suggestion
was to use Laser Jet 6L drivers. The print jobs still generated the extra
form feed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

[U2] Populating Excel Templates from UniVerse

2007-10-09 Thread Don P. Nagai
Hello All:

Just wondering what methods would be suggested for populating Excel
templates (invoices, work orders, etc.) with data from UniVerse. Weve run
into problems with the newer HP printers no longer supporting PCL commands
and are looking for alternative forms printing options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: UNCLASSIFIED RE: [U2] UniVerse telnet session terminating...

2004-05-05 Thread Don P. Nagai
Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this installation is still
running Win2K and our problems continue.

Weve reinstalled UniVerse, rebuilt the UV.LOGINS file via UVAdmin, created
a brand new user and user group with the proper Log on Locally and Access
this Computer from the Network policies set to no avail.

The odd thing is that this problem appeared suddenly. Through 5:00pm on
4/30 all was fine and then the difficulties started. There were no system
updates (at least no deliberate ones) and nothing recorded in the event logs
coinciding with the problems onset.

Still looking for a solution

Don

Don,

Win2K or Win2K3?

If Win2K3, maybe the system believes that all licenses are used up.

It used to give a sensible error message in this situation, but Win2K3 just
remote closes the session.

I have ECASE # 6484*AUS open on this raised 7/11/2003, qualified
accepted by IBM 28/01/2004, reprioritised as Priority 3 on 13/02/2004.

Do a uvlictool clean_lic -a at the ...\IBM\UV\bin DOS prompt and see if
it fixes it.

HTH

Mike

Hello All:

We have a UniVerse 9.6.2.1 installation on W2K that has suddenly developed a
logon problem for all users except the administrator.

Were seeing the following error condition:

Enter user name: test

Enter password:

Informix UniVerse telnet session terminating

All standard users have home directories for valid user-accounts assigned
through UV Admin and belong to groups with the Log on Locally policy in
force.

Only the administrator users are able to get past the password prompt (where
they receive the Account name or path(xxx): question).

The LIST.READU EVERY command shows no locks present.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.
