I do not understand your rationale for wanting them in all sizes...?

To remind you once again, this is a replacement for the hi-color icons,
gnome/human dont provide these, no other default Ubuntu icon set has a
replacement for these Hi-color icons

And *the nm hi-color icons are only present in 1 size* ,in the 22px ,
they have excluded it from all the other sizes.

So why do you want these in all the sizes? Isnt a scalable 128px icon
better than a fixed 22px?

hi,
taking note of the future of the ubuntu-desktop and the discussion we
had on the irc , i understand the points u have made...

just for everyone else here, a recap:
Kwwii has said that the ubuntu team was looking to *not* use any colors
for icons in the panel.

but the problem with this usage, with the greyscale version of hi-color
bar type icons, is that if the colors are not used then the wireless
icons would look almost exactly similar to the wireless icon used in
Windows7.

I'm hoping to prevent this similarity and try to create a greyscale
version with curves similar to the one i'v already created. not the same
, it will need more modification if it has to be displayed properly in
all panels as greyscale. and if i succeed in making one then we could
create similar look for the breathe notify-osd icons.

But since this discussion is more towards the icons in the breathe icon
set , *Cory* what do u think? greyscale or use these present color icons
for breathe?

cheers,
mac_v

For Ubuntu and the theme it sets as default, the notification icons should be
differently styled versions of the same metaphors used in the panel. Other
themes are free to do as they please but in order to integrate well with the
overall Ubuntu desktop a theme should think twice about doing anything
radically different. Naturally Ubuntu is always trying to improve so if
something comes along which is different but better than what we currently use
we would certainly entertain the idea.

The notification icons shown in notify-osd on a default ubuntu install were
designed by Canonical to integrate with the style of the notify-osd bubble on
which it is displayed and have a very distinct design. Because the icons in
notify-osd are designed specifically for the bubbles the only parts which
should be re-used elsewhere is the form. IE we are not suggesting that anyone
make a entire theme of icons based on the notify-osd design :) The panel
placement and size require a different design than large semi-transparent icons
on semi-transparent background with gaussian blurred shadows ;)

Anything that shows up in a notification is an OSD icon. Note that Canonical
has defined the style for the OSD icons quite specificialy. This style is only
to be used for the official canonical notify-osd look. You are free to include
any other style in your own and other themes.

I think that realisitically, you need to show the 16x16 and 22x22 versions on
a light grey and a dark background to show how they will look on a panel.

but i tried ur idea.

i think that the presence of the gradients adds the minor feel of lighting,
also if the colors get a bit more darker then the visibility of the icon in
dark/transparent panels becomes tough. especially in the transparent panels ,
where the backgrounds vary .

i would prefer changing the shape to these curved ones... :)

since the notify-osd icons for wireless and gsm are exactly the same,
the other gsm edge, gsm 3G ,gsm H are just minor variations... so
changing the wireless icon shape would make more sense...

also , i'v spent some time on these icons and i would hate to see them
be replaced or redo with a new shape. :P

I saw now the 24px and they look pretty good.

When I mentioned the NotifyOSD icons I was referring to the shape of the
icons and not the style. If we go with this icon, we should also make the
notifications icons or use this one for the bubbles.
If we gonna stick with the Human NotifyOSD set, we should make this icons
taking notice of those.

Hello,

I think the notify-osd icons have a completely different style, which is
looking great within the notification bubbles, but i doubt it'd look great
to have the notify-osd wifi icons in the panel. I think the drawing of the
notification- wifi icons should be done afterwards, and if they should be
based on those of the icon set, they could be made smoother, and possibly
desaturated for some of them, to avoid drawing too much attention from the
user when popping up.

I like it but I have a couple of concerns.
You made the large size and I don't know how this looks on the smaller
sizes. Take notice that the 24px version of this icon it's used on the
panel.
Secondly, I wonder if we should take the icon set from NotifyOSD as a base
for this icons since the set will inherits from Human and I think that it's
important that we maintain certain consistency (if you are in Jaunty you can
see this icons at "/usr/share/icons/Human/scalable/status").
If not, we should make a "NotifyOSD set" for Breathe as well.
I think that before you go any further with this, we should decide this for
the icons that are present in the NotifyOSD set.

hi, i'm not sure if u are talking about the straight bars or the curved
ones?

the first[straight bar] icons were just mockup , since i was not sure if
the team was interested in a nm icon ... and i was new to inkscape hence
i didnt know if the learning curve would be worth the while[since i had
a working set of pngs for personal use and the whole set needed 38
icons...!] the mockup should probably even be considered just a doodle!

i used the antennae purposefully ,just to maintain an aspect from the
wireless-network icon. but on usage scaling down the presence/absence of
the antennae doesnt matter. it can be removed...

the image u have linked looks similar to the gnome colors icon, also
similar to what i aim to achieve... if u check my first post
,https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-art/2009-May/010477.html,
i have included a set of my working pngs which have a new reconnect
animation behavior, the change in animation behavior is my main reason
for suggestion of the nm icons, since the old hi-color icons dont look
that great...

even the second set i have uploaded are just a work in progress,

Anyway Cory has suggested that he could help or get someone to make the
icons fit better with the breathe set...

i'm not sure if ur comments are regarding the first doodle set i had
submitted in the first post or the second set i had uploaded to the wiki
earlier today?just to be clear which set of icons were your comments about?

any ideas/suggestion would be appreciated... or if someone can do it
better too, welcome , i just feel nm needs a new look. :)

These icons are absolutely awesome. The reconnection animation is by
far better than nm-applet's default circular animation. My only
recommendation as far the colors go is maybe try an orange color like
used in go-home or the lighter teal/blue color of the system-logout
icons. The lighter green is a bit bold especially on darker themes.

Again great work and I've been testing these icons since you uploaded.
