[Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file

2010-12-22 Thread Franz Waldbauernbub
I just observed the following behaviour:

I copied an svg-file which crashes nautilus when preview is not turned off, to
a sub folder of my desktop. If I open this folder with nautilus, it doesn't
crash.
Might there be a relation to the pathname?

if the file is stored in this pathname:
/home/franz/durchsehen/franz/Diplomarbeit-muster/kraftwerk/bilder/wasserdampf3.svg
nautilus crashes immediately
output of /var/log/kern.log:
nautilus[32290]: segfault at 0 ip 7f9efb88a626 sp 7f9ef37eb778 error 4
in libc-2.11.1.so[7f9efb809000+17a000]

Copied to this location
/home/franz/Desktop/svg-bug/wasserdampf3.svg
nautilus doesn't crash and generates the correct preview.

librsvg2-2 version 2.26.3-0ubuntu is installed

I attached the svg which is causing problems (created with dia, inksape
and the textext-plugin for inkscape)

[Bug 609545] Re: Fails to download videos

2010-12-22 Thread Grasswistle
I don't know what version is being used in Debian, but I'm running 10.10
and this bug (or a similar one) is recurring... I remember this was
fixed back in July for 10.10 and that it had not been merged with 10.04
yet, but I'm having a similar problem again.

Here are some outputs:

lsb_release -rd

ERROR: unable to download video (format may not be available)

I've tried to download a number of different videos and I always get
this same error message. Notice that the error message is similar, but
subtly different, from the one I was getting in July.

Again, I have ascertained that the video works in the browser (if you
are looking for good music, I think you should check out the youtube
link...)

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Re: [Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when ACcable is unplugged

2010-12-22 Thread Jonas Diaz
I'm still waiting for this to be solved. It's really annoying and I'm worried
for the lifetime of my battery. I have an Hacer 532H... I've seen that the bug
was triaged but the fix has not come yet. This bug should have a really really
high importance.

Title:
  upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

Status in DeviceKit based power management D-Bus backend:
  Confirmed
Status in “upower” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “upower” package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: upower

upower reports enormous energy-rate for first time after cord is unplugged.
GPM reacts on this first event not checking subsequent events.

This bug is started because I found no ways to collect data for 473552.
I have no devkit-power package.

=== EFFECTS ===

This is the underlying cause to gnome-power-manager immediately
reporting critical battery after unplug even while charge is good. It is
not a gnome-power-manager problem, the root is here in upower. Please do
not report bugs against gnome-power-manager for this!

To workaround the effects execute:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/gnome-power-
manager/general/use_time_for_policy false

(from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-
manager/+bug/572541/comments/1)

  * debian/control
- depends on ubutuone-client = 1.5.1
- depends on ubuntu-sso-client = 1.1.7

  * New upstream release.

[ Natalia B. Bidart natalia.bid...@canonical.com ]

  * Updated list of messages to be shown on the overview panel (LP:
  #690379).

  * Implemented callback for failure when loading devices.

  * Added a spinner on every UbuntuOneBin to be shown while loading the
  panel content.

  * Devices can now be removed (LP: #691295).

  * Migrated dbus_client to use non-deprectaed SSO D-Bus API.

  * Added clear_credentials to dbus_client module.

  * Implemented devices tab (LP: #690649).

  * Maximum size is set using geometry hints (LP: #683164).

  * Added logging to dbus_service and backend.

  * Error signals now sent the object id when available (LP:
#691292).

  * After machine was added, Folders page is shown (LP: #674459).

  * VolumesInfoError signal is now handled (LP: #690292).

  '' for False and any other non empty string for True (LP: #683619).

  * File sync status is retrieved and displayed in the right top corner
  (LP: #673670).

[Bug 511511] Re: Nautilus not start

2010-12-22 Thread Rich howard
ANOTHER WORK AROUND

I've tried the solutions mentioned above without any luck. So I did a
bit of experimentation and found a workaround.

I copied the File manager launcher found in usr/share/application and renamed
it. (In my case File Browser Docky)
I opened the launcher in g-edit:-

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/File Browser Docky.desktop
 and edited the entry to look like this
--
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=File Browser
Comment=Browse the file system with the file manager
Exec=nautilus /home
Icon=system-file-manager

Name[en_GB]=File Manager docky

---

Notice that I have added a file path at the end of the Exec line which points
the the folder I want to open, change this to the one you want to open.
for example
Exec=nautilus /home/reginald/music/sugarcubes
OR
Exec=nautilus /home/ronny/pictures/muckypictures

Save the file and drag it to Docky.

Hope this helps someone.

Ta
Rich

Re: [Bug 183456] Re: Trying to load a sf2 file with asfxload returns sfxload: no memory left

2010-12-22 Thread Thomas Richter
Raymond wrote:
 you have to change max_buffer_size if you want to load a larger
 soundfont as default value is 128Mb
The issue is not with the size of the soundfont. The issue is that the
kernel tries to put them into the 16MB ISA
DMA zone, being short of memory below 2GB.

Here's the technical explanation:

The kernel first tries to allocate 32bit memory for the soundfont. It
then checks whether the allocated memory is
above the 2GB barrier. Having a hardware bug in the emu10k1, the
hardware can only support DMA from the lowest 2GB
of memory because it simply ignores bit 31 of the address. The memory
allocator then comes back with memory which is,
due to the memory allocation policy, *above* the 2GB barrier whenever
more than 2GB is installed in the system.
This, of course, won't work, and the kernel/emu10k1 driver notices this,
releases the memory and then tries next to take
the memory from the 16MB ISA zone. Of course, there isn't enough memory
available to load the soundfont, which then
fails.

There is a fix, namely shorten the kernel 32bit DMA zone to 2GB, namely
replace in arch/x86/include/asm.h the following
line:

#define MAX_DMA32_PFN ((2UL * 1024 * 1024 * 1024)  PAGE_SHIFT)

here the 4UL has been replaced by a 2UL, which does the indicated
reduction of the 32bit DMA memory, and brings the
emu10k1 back to work. It has no other drawbacks, i.e. the machine is
working with correspondingly patched kernels
for over a year by now.

The true fix would be to make the memory allocation of the kernel a bit
more flexible than it is now.

Greetings,
Thomas

[Bug 441653] Re: radeon graphics mode and console does not start - xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

2010-12-22 Thread David Faure
In reply to #32: I don't think this is exactly the same as the RedHat
bug report by Linus Torvalds, which was about the rhgb-client program
specifically. The symptom (VT_WAITACTIVE failing) was the same, and the
investigations might help with the bug here, but it's not the same bug
(the rhgb one got fixed).

What I wonder is:
1) could someone from the ubuntu Xorg team look into this (and at least retitle
the bug)
2) does anyone experience this bug with another distro, or is it only happening
on [k]ubuntu...

[Bug 583122] Re: firefox occasionally highlights contents of form fields while typing thereby overwriting previously entered keystrokes

2010-12-22 Thread rockfx01
I have been seeing this bug on and off for at least several months, if
not a year. It is very intermittent, but when it does happen it is
painfully annoying especially because I usually must restart FF
completely to resolve the issue.

I have seen this defect on multiple different versions of Ubuntu (9.04,
10.04, 10.10) with different versions of Firefox (but probably all 3.0+)
as well as on Windows Vista, all with various add-ons installed.

As other users said above, this appears to be a Firefox autofill
problem. This is such an annoying defect it makes me seriously consider
switching from FF to Chrome permanently (not to mention Chrome is FAR
more stable using Flash than Firefox in Ubuntu).

[Bug 693162] Re: Can't view TV shows

2010-12-22 Thread William Ford
I received notice that I had updates available to install, I clicked on
install updates and afterwards, I went to CBS.com to view a TV show.
When I clicked on the show I wanted all I got was a blue screen with a
small black square in the upper left corner. The show would not play.
I had been watching shows prior to this with no problem. Now I can go
to Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, etc and get the same problem. I also get the
same response on news videos on MSN. No video, just a blue screen with
a black square in the upper left corner. Is there any way I can get rid
of Natty and go back to a more stable system?

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2010-12-22 Thread Rookcifer
Same problem here. Grey theme at boot. Going into theme preferences
will fix the panel, but it will not fix Nautilus or the desktop icons.

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 x64 with an nvidia graphics card (using binary
drivers).

What is the status of this bug? Can any developer here tell me if you
are working on it? This bug is rather infuriating and there doesn't
seem to be any progress being made on it.

[Bug 693490] [NEW] [FUJITSU FMVMGD75P] brightness up/down key press events are reported by 2 input device

2010-12-22 Thread Nobuto MURATA
Public bug reported:

FUJITSU FMVMGD75P has brightness up/down key as Fn+F7/Fn+F6.
When pressing the keys, brightness plus/minus 2 values.
e.g. the value of /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness changes from 0 to
2 (skipping 1).

With /lib/udev/keymap, brightness up/down key press events are reported by 2
input devices (input/event4 and 5) at the same time.
According from the page below, it should only send the event on one device.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting#Step-by-step%20Troubleshooting

$ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event4
Press ESC to finish
scan code: 0x00 key code: brightnessdown

$ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event5
Press ESC to finish
scan code: 0x00 key code: brightnessdown
